I grew up on Steak and Shake as a kid in St. Louis and still love their food. However this location is the worst one I have ever visited. My last four drive-up orders in a row have been wrong. The wait staff doesn't listen, is poorly trained and slow. My last burger was cold and a piece of unmelted cheese obviously slapped on at the last minute. The company needs to review this location and make some changes. If it weren't the only one within an hour of my home I wouldn't be back.

stopped at steak and shake last night, 3-17-2014, went inside because drive thru takes for ever, placed order at 7:05 (per receipt), did not get orange freeze until 7:20 this was only after one of the cooks noticed I was standing there, and only after I reminded cook it came with whipped cream and cherry, guy who took my order was just standing there doing nothing entire time, cook had know clue how to make orange freeze. gave up on drive thru a long time ago, guess I will give up walking in.

The food is usually good. You get what you pay for. But the service here is terrible there is only 2 good waiters there, the other's they really need to work on their customer friendly. I have made complaints but the management don't seem to care at all. Every time you go in there the same help is never there well except for the 2 waiter's and I just don't understand why they don't go some place else where they could make more money cause they are just awesome. But just my opinion. Otherwise like I said you get what you pay for, Nd will I go back again? Yes. I guess I keep hoping it will get better and hope to get one of the good waiters :)

We stopped here to pick up a shake on the way home from Daycon in Clarksville. The drive thru service was some of the best I have gotten from any fast food joint, fast and friendly. If the service on the drive thru translates into the dine-in service as well, than this location is definitely on par with the Franklin establishment.

I love Steak n Shake. It is one of my favorite burger restaurants. The problem is that our local one in Clarksville is SOOOOOOO slow everytime you go in. The employees are indifferent at best. To top it off, the restaurant just isn't very clean. The last 2 times we were there, they brought our shakes out in paper cups citing the reason as there not being any clean dishes! No one seems to take pride in the Steak n Shake image. It's just an overall bad experience.

Food is usually hot and tastes fresh but......always check your order and dont be in a hurry. Orders are usually short or wrong....and it can take a few minutes longer to order.......pay........and ...........get .....your..... food.

Horrible customer service. We waited over 15 min for a table due how busy it was and having a large party (8 including a baby and 4 small children). We were next on the list and several small tables had opened up, some close together, when other smaller parties entered. A waitress who we hadn't seen seat parties before suddenly came over and escorted a smaller party to a table. My sister-in-law asked why we were still waiting (as there were tables open close to one another) and the waitress responded that we wouldn't fit at a table for 3 (yet, there were other obvious options). The hostess walked up to explain the situation to me and behind her shoulder I heard the other waitress refer to my sister-in-law as a "bitch". At that point I was completely stunned and disgusted. We walked out, I did not want my children to witness such trashy behavior. We went down the road to Texas Roadhouse and spent substantially more on a great meal with a fantastic waitress named Sierra. I will not take my family back to Steak-n-Shake. No thanks.

Very poor drive through experience on two separate occasions! On the first the lady taking my order was not only rude but apparently she was also deaf, she completely screwed up my order! I ordered an Apple Pecan Grilled Chicken Salad and was given a Grilled Chicken Salad. I also ordered a rootbeer float and when it was handed to me the sides of the cup were sticky and rootbeer was overflowing into my car because some genius put the wrong top on the cup. On the second visit (I returned hoping the first visit was just a fluke.) i ordered a burger, fry, and milkshake. The milkshake was not blended well (but yummy nevertheless), the fries were not hot nor were they seasoned, and the burger along with the foil it was wrapped in was covered with oil. Very annoying. I will not be retuning here for anything other than a shake.

Constant crappy service. Food is good. They are so slow. Just sit and bs while customers wait for drinks.

I'll break this down quick style: We waited 12 minutes before anyone brought us menu's. After we ordered, we waited another 25 minutes before it was brought out. When it arrived, the food was cold. I ordered the classic burger which was smaller than expected for the price. The shakes were actually pretty decent. I don't expect to be returning as my burger standard has been set unreasonably high by the west coast's In and Out Burger. I will keep this review short and unmemorable.. as was my visit to Steak and Shake... well maybe my visit wasn't so short.

By far the worst drive thru ever. I once waited 30 minutes to get a milkshake, and they made me pull up past window and wait while they continued giving others regular food behind me. I had to go inside, and even after all that, they tried to give me coupons to placate me....coupons in which you had to buy something to get something. Other times I thought to the drive-through it's also taken a while, and customer service is terrible. The shakes do taste great though!

Old School style diner with authentic milkshakes, delicious burgers with toppings from egg, jalapeños or a bun made of garlic. I recommend it, but if you eat a lot get a triple or quadruple instead of a double because it runs out fast. (:

I REALLY didn't want to return here after my first visit (see previous review for details), but I needed to grab lunch really quickly, and I had just got done shopping at a store nearby. This location seems to have personnel issues sitting people, noticing that customers have come in, etc. I waited around by the door for a little while before I was noticed and seated. The meal was tasty after that, but nothing too great. They were nice enough to give me a Styrofoam cup to take the remainder of my milkshake away in.

The good: The food was decent Cost The Bad: A girl came over in part st clothes part uniform and sat us 3 people argued in front of us who was going to take our order The waiter was overly friendly bordering on inappropriate Had to wait forever to pay our bill. Our table was dirty Bottom line this place is good when your low on funds, you want a shake, or its the only place open.

Since Roger Ebert writes so elegiacally (that's a word, right? ) about this place, I thought I'd try it, since it's near where I work. I went there for lunch one day. First thing I have to tell you: THERE IS NO STEAK THERE. For real. I believe they do have shakes. OK. Next thing, when I went the service was terrible. Maybe I am overly sensitive, but it felt to me that the young folks working there took one look at my old, fat, eating-alone self & decided that other customers were more worth their effort. They are unaware that old, fat, eating-alone women are sometimes good tippers. It took several minutes for someone to acknowledge my existence & seat me at a table in the 25% full dining room. Then I noticed that a table seated after I was seated reeceived their drink order before anyone had bothered to come to my table at all. The waitress for that table recognized this travesty of justice by informing me that another girl would be my waitress. This other waitress might have been a prototype waitron robot with bad programming. She was slow, slow, saaa-low. She didn't know how to wait on a table. When she brought me a plate with a comically small portion of fries, it was obvious that she hadn't even glanced at the plate before serving it. When I pointed out the shortchange on the fries she did offer me more fries. No. This fat lady wasn't going to insist on more fries, THE FOOD WAS VERY TASTY. I ate it up & when I was done I had to wait, wait, waaaaait for the waitron to wander into my vicinity. "Do you want your check?" she asked., Sure. I wanted my check. What I didn't want was to wait, wait, waaaaait for someone to appear at the cash register so I could pay the check. I went one more time, to the drive-thru. Again it was a long wait. Again the food was very good, but probably not worth all the waiting.

I like Steak N Shake, but it seems like every time I go in there the service gets worse. Slow to seat, slow to order, slow to bring out food. And I can't figure out why the tile floor always feels so slippery. What are you mopping with, burger grease? That's a lawsuit waiting to happen. On the positive side, I love the burgers and the shakes are delicious. So there's that to look forward to.

Although this place has died out in popularity, it will always be my favorite place for the PERFECT milkshake! The theme of the restaurant is kind of a diner feel, but without the jukebox music. I highly recommend the Prince burger, with added veggies! The fries are a bit small in portion size, which will the biggest downfall for most customers, so I recommend getting the onion rings as a substitute.

Walked out (first time ever) along with others! Bad service...filthy...waited over an hour for food and still had three meals in front of us! Do not go here.

I've been here several times and the food is always good, so is the service. My husband and I got seated right away and the food came fast so can't complain. I got the birthday cake shake for the first time and oh my God its so good! This is my favorite place for milkshakes, if you haven't tried them you're missing out.

Went to steak and shake on a snowy night and the place was fairly busy. It didn't take long for the hostess to sit us down but it took a good 10 minutes before they even came and took down our order. I guess we got there right before dinner rush because I saw multiple families waiting to be seated right after we sat down. It took 5 minutes before any worker even said anything to them at all, let alone get them seats. My husband and I ordered: two oreo shakes, a mushroom swiss burger with a side of chili cheese fries, and a a guacamole burger with a side of parmasean cheese and herb fries. This was our first time ever eating at steak n shake and a few people we know hyped up the joint. I guess our expectations were too high. The burger patty was extremely bland and the bun seemed soggy for both our burgers. it might have just been what we picked, but I don't think I'm ever going back. The milkshakes were delicious though. Not too big of a fan for milkshakes either so I was surprised at how good these were. Still not enough for me to go back to though.

Our waiter was very nice and attentive. Food was great as usual, I got the original double steak burger with cheese and French fries. Had a vanilla milkshake for dessert - best milkshakes around!!

Fast drive thru, yummy burgers and fries, good milkshakes, and inspiration for my toddlers' new phrase "oreo cookie ice cream sandwich"! $27 for 3 adults and 1 child couldn't be beat for fast, good food.

I waited quite a while for just a burger and fries, and when it finally came out, it was cold. Not even room temperature, it was cold. The toppings, particularly the pickles looked disgusting.

Great food...but terrible customer service...sat down and our waitress was cleaning and didn't even rush to greet us...stood at the front door forever to even be seated...had 4 people walk by before even seating us...come on get some better wait staff

I am from Michigan so, steak n' shake is like going home without the 10 hour drive. Good food, and friendly service. I recently ordered the burger that comes with a fried egg on top (can't remember the name of it). Anyways, I asked for an over easy egg. When it came it was more hard fried than over easy. Even though it was still to my liking, without asking our waiter brought me a new egg.

Not-So-Fast Food If you eat here, don't be in any great hurry. Since the iHOP has been closed for repairs, I decided to have breakfast here this morning, and it's a good thing it was a Saturday and I had nowhere to be in a hurry. Lots of people waiting for someone to notice that they were waiting for tables, so I grabbed a seat at the counter. Nobody seemed to notice that either. I hunted down a menu and looked it over for about ten minutes, and someone finally came over and took my order. Five or six minutes later, a cup of coffee and a glass of water showed up. Fully thirty minutes later, breakfast showed up. Not MY breakfast, mind you, but at least it was SOMEONE'S breakfast. After a 40 minute wait for something to eat I was ready to eat the napkins, except I didn't HAVE any napkins. Or a fork, for that matter. By this time I was almost hungry enough to eat "doggy style" by planting my face in the plate, but thought better of it and asked for the proper tools to eat like a gentleman. After hunting down a fork, napkin and locating the server's station for a do-it-yourself refill on the coffee, the food wasn't bad (or was I just that hungry?). If you're the owner of this place, here are a couple of things you might want to go over with your staff: 1) After handling money or picking things up off the floor, wash your hands before handling food (or at least put on some gloves). You may not care if you make someone sick, but your customers certainly do. 2) It doesn't take a degree from a European culinary school to learn fry up some eggs and hash browns in under ten minutes. Either train your staff to do it, or hire someone who can. 3) Wandering around with a blank stare into space is not a substitute for good service. Oh, and if you are the owner, manager, or whatever...you might want to try actually being on site to see this place in action for yourself before people quit coming and you go broke and don't understand how it happened.

This place is insane slow everytime I go. No matter why time of day or how busy. I came once and my fries were cold after waiting about an hour to get the food and ten my burger was cold by the time they brought it back. I went earlier tonight around 11:30, took 45 minutes to seat me and they waited till right before I sat down to wipe the table off. Then it took another 45 minutes to place my order, another 30 to get my drinks, then 15 minutes after that I got my food. ALL I ordered was a side of onion rings and a snack size chilli cheese fries. After eating, I didn't get any refills , not once, it took forever to get my check and forever to get someone to let me pay for the order. Then my husband went through thei drive thru to get 2 shakes in which they screwed up, took 20 minutes and only gave one straw. UGH. The fries and onion rings were hot for the most part which is the only thing that was okay with the place.

When I was younger my grandma took me to steak and shake in STL and it was always a great time. So when I got to Clarksville and saw that there was one here I was super stoked. I have eaten here about 10+ times or so in the past 6+ years that I have been here and it has been pretty consistent this whole time. The shakes are grreat, food is great and a good price, and the wait staff is usually pretty friendly. It isn't a very big restaurant so seating could be weird for larger groups but I have never really been there when it was a busy time.
