Shuford’s Smokehouse Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

We stopped by here for lunch. This is a tiny old place... and by old, I mean it showed it's age. Comfort in the tiny dining area obviously isn't the priority here... nor is cleanliness. While the place was packed when we arrived, there were a couple of open tables that were dirty, and remained dirty while we stood in line to order. It wasn't after all of us ordered that someone bothered to come out and wipe down some tables so that we had a place to sit. The building sits very close to Signal Mountain Road and there aren't a lot of places to park. Be careful parking too close to the building, as you might block the drive-through lane. It's not marked, so watch out! If there isn't a place to park, the restaurant is probably full. Someone here (the owner, I presume), is a University of Alabama fan. There is 'Bama football memorabilia all over the place. The restaurant has a feeling of being old and dirty, more like you're at someone's house than a restaurant. You can see the kitchen from counter, and for the most part it looks clean, there were some questionable things I noticed, but they were pretty busy that day.... As for the food... it was okay. I've had better BBQ and I've had worse. I got a heaping portion of pulled pork. The food comes out pretty quick and the sauces were pretty good. It's a good thing they put some bottles on the tables, because it sure doesn't come with very much. It was a good sized portion and was a decent value for the money. It's pulled pork, so it's kinda hard to screw it up. I didn't get any sides or anything, I was most into just getting some BBQ. The guy behind the counter wasn't very friendly, but he was quick and efficient in getting our orders taken and sent off to the kitchen. A word of caution, the restroom is most certainly not ADA compliant. It's not an issue for me, but that bathroom door sure is tiny! Shuford's was okay. I'd certainly go here again if someone else suggested it, but it's not a place I would go to again on my own.

Shufords just does it right. Whether it's pulled pork or ribs or sausage they bring it. I've not had a bad meal here and the best part is they have crinkle cut French fries! If you love BBQ and want to find the best in town Shufords has to be on your list

I really hope it was an off day for them. The place is quaint and I really wanted to like it but the synergistic reaction of the entire experience left me disappointed. The girl behind the counter gave the impression that she had better things to do and little patience for out of townees with questions about the menu. The food was bland, point blank. Pork was cold in some spots, warm in others. Sauce was slathered on like an afterthought. The potato salad was inconsistent, although it was the proper temperature as was the okra. I'd say I'd come in for another try but next time i'm in town (with the 6 of my friends to climb) we're going to look elsewhere for our BBQ.

We found this place through Yelp reviews and couldn't have been happier. Looks like a BBQ joint should and the owner went out of his way to look after us. Good meaty ribs and great sides. Buy the BBQ sauce to go, he makes it in a big tub with an oar. Very good and even better when we got it for free. Brilliant service. Good job!!

I have had better BBQ pork than I had here I have to say and I wouldn't make a special trip here but it wasn't bad. The "hot" sauce was not hot at all. The coleslaw was good, baked beans were not much more than a can of pork n beans with bell pepper! The banana pudding is a must if you go,the actual pudding has a banana flavor! The place is very old and dated and I'm sure the girls hands were clean deboning the baked chicken in plain sight without gloves!!! Service was good and friendly. Seating is limited inside. There is a porch like entrance that wasn't air conditioned.Lot's of hideous Alabama decor :)

This was the best bar b q pork sandwich I have had in Tennessee. It was almost as good as Abe's Bar B Q in Clarksdale, MS. I met the owner Jeff while I was dining in the restaurant. He stated that he's been in business since 1986. He also said that he had to pay $10,000 for the secret recipe from an owner of a bar b q restaurant at that time who passed away. Like others, you need to come at a time when they are not busy to find a -parking place. They do have a drive thru that circles around the back of the restaurant. You enter on the right side and go to the back which is where the drive thru window is and come out on the left side. menu items ordered: coke, bar b q pork sandwich, and crinkle cut French fries. Your coke comes with free refills which is self serve. The bar b q sandwich came with slaw and bar b q sauce that was put on with an amount by the chef. In summary, I will come back for their bar b q plus try their banana pudding and fried okra because of other's reviews.

I found this place by pure luck while heading home to Georgia. it's a small old bar-b-que shack. the rips were tender and came right of the bone with little pull. I had a chance to talk tp the owner and get the story of how the restaurant started. if you are looking for good local food and local charm this is the place for you. if you prefer a place that is sleek and modern keep on driving.

When's the last time you walked in, for the first time, and learned then remembered the name of the owner of a restaurant? Jeff Davis. I remember, because I am grateful to him. Grateful that he shares his 29 years of BBQ experience with his customers. Grateful to experience his good-natured personality and generosity. Grateful that he let me back behind the counter to see how the 40 gallons of BBQ sauce he makes BY HAND is stirred by boat paddle (He's on his third, and if you ask, you'll learn why very quickly). Grateful that he cooks suckling pig (apparently the only one to do so in the state of Tennessee.) And most of all, grateful for the best damn BBQ in the state. Thank you Jeff Davis, and I will absolutely be ordering your sauce online.

I hate to say that I'm a lot disappointed. We had ridden wround all day looking for some good BBQ and decided on Shuford's. When we pulled up I was a little excited inside. ANything coming out of the kitchen of an actual smokehouse is destined to be more than delectable right? Wrong. I was no fan of the actual location, small, dingy and dimly lit. Comes with the territory of an authentic smokehouse. But as for my food, I was very much underwhelmed. I spent $15 on a rib plate and got runny mac and "cheese", tough and bland ribs and a green onion. I also got some bread (which helped the taste) and beans (which were good). I expected so much more, but I guess you win some and you lose some. Interestingly enough, there were autographed pictures from some celebs, including the cast of Saved by the Bell, among the plethora of Alabama Crimson Tide regalia, on the walls who swore by this BBQ. Mr. Belding....you lied.

Just ok. My lunch totalled $11.25 for a pork platter, 2 sides (baked beans & slaw), and a drink. The pork was the best part of the meal. It was smoked well but the sauce was a dark brown, brown sugar type sauce that I didn't care for. The beans and slaw were good but nothing special and the tea, just ok. The service was fast and friendly. It's a small place and they seemed like good, friendly folks but I'd hate to say I don't think I'll hurry back. Sorry guys.

I used Shuford's for catering my wedding. Jeff and his staff were quick to answer all of my questions and reassured me that everything was going to be perfect. They did a great job. I told them how many guests I was going to have and even had last minute head count decreases which they adjusted the price for. Jeff knew exactly how much food to supply for the number of people (approx. 150). They were also on time day of the wedding and did a great job. I would recommend using this local BBQ place to anyone!

Visiting from Phoenix and we stopped into this hole in the wall. Almost didn't want to go in as there was really no parking and the place looked really old but I am glad I did as I would have missed out on really good food. I had the combination plate (beef and port) with coleslaw and mac n cheese. Best Coleslaw and Mac N Cheese I have ever had at a restaurant. The people are very friendly. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is the pork was a little on the dry side, but the BBQ sauce made it great. Anyone who passes this place up due to the exterior of the place is missing out.

I decided to stop in based on the great reviews. When I drove up I just knew the food had to be great. Tiny smokehouse...worn interior...limited parking...basically the kind of bbq that taste like someone's uncle has been smoking all night. Some of the best BBQ you're gonna get West of Eastern Carolina! Good smoky pulled pork and tasty, fresh sides. If you eat-in, enjoy the local "hole in the wall" feel. Try the pulled pork and fried okra. You won't be disappointed!

I am from Memphis so my BBQ expectations are high. This place is GOOD! The meat is delicious and the sauces are savory. The banana pudding is sooo good!!! My complaint would be the sides. The mac n cheese tastes like a frozen dinner-bland and the cheese has a thin, poor texture. Baked beans have green peppers in them which seems to be a Chattanooga thing, not impressed. Not too spacious. The BBQ itself is divine!

This place had become a regular on our ever alternating lunch schedule! I always always always am satisfied when I go to Shufords! My favorite thing to get is the pulled pork sandwich with a mix of hot and mild bbq sauces. I love their potato logs and onion rings. The staff are soooo very friendly and helpful!!! OOOOOOOOHHHHHH, I almost forgot, if you like banana pudding, you HAVE to get theirs! It's phenomenal! The only complaint I've ever had is that the parking is a little weird, other than that it's great!

If you're looking for a little hole-in-the-wall bbq joint, this is it. We drove for more than 30 minutes to get there, and weren't disappointed. Although the meat was dry compared to what we make at home, the sauce was excellent and the young man at the counter was knowledgeable and very helpful. We ordered a combo plate to share (which I thought was skimpy for the price..$13 and change) but it was adequate for my husband to eat by himself since I changed my mind about sharing. I really wanted ribs, so I ordered a rib sandwich. Because he knew it was really only the ribs I wanted, the young man brought me a "breadless" sandwich with extra ribs...which really means he brought me 5 ribs for the price of the sandwich. Nice :) If we lived in the area, we would certainly go back.

After a local friend told me she had her wedding catered by Shufords, I had to try it. Now, every time I work in Chattanooga, I make sure to get a hotel with a fridge so I can buy a slab or two of ribs, freeze them and take then home. They are simply the best. The meat is tender, flavored all the way through with smoke and who knows what else, and juicy. The sauce is delicious! Who cares about what the parking looks like? Who cares that the ambience is "indoor picnic"? The food is FANTASTIC! I have carried 20 lbs of ribs to a family gathering in Vermont, slabs home to AZ, and without fail everyone loves them! The folks at Shufords are so nice, when I say I'm flying with their ribs, they wrap them up tight and ready to travel. My friend says the other food is good too, but I just have to get the ribs every time :)

Great little, nasty BBQ joint with delicious food, cheap prices, and cheap ambiance. For a ten spot I got the half rack of ribs with fried okra, coleslaw, a slice of white bread, a green onion, and a coke. The ribs were a bit dry in spots but very meaty and tasted great. The serving was pretty big and I couldn't touch the final rib. The coleslaw was too finely shredded and super creamy, so I really didn't eat much of it. The fried okra was stupid-good, fresh as could be, and awesome. I was too busy enjoying the ribs and okra to pay any attention to the white bread or green onion. The coke machine was serving mostly foam, so everyone had to make at least three trips in order to wind up with a full cup. I wouldn't pass up the opportunity to eat here again another time.

If you like great BBQ, you'll like Shuford's. Not much for looks. Parking is not that great. BUT!!! they have the best ribs in Chattanooga (maybe Tennessee). Sauce is spicy thick and mouthwatering. Comes with lots of good extras. The sweet tea (a requirement for any good BBQ place in the south) is spot on. The pork plate is the perfect size if you're not too hungry. Overall it's one of the best BBQ places I've been and whenever we're near Chattanooga we always stop in.
