My wife and I checked out Lupi's while we were in Chattanooga and were pleasantly surprised. Lupi's reminded both of us of our favorite pizza joint back in Atlanta. I'd venture to say Lupi's is a bit better though...its cleaner, the staff is nicer and the food tastes cleaner. The thing I really like about Lupi's pizza is that its simple. All you need is good, from scratch dough and simple, good ingredients. The crust was crispy and chewy which is perfect. The toppings were very fresh and tasted great. We both enjoyed the bruschetta. This is not your typical bruschetta. Six big pieces of homemade bread with melted cheese and a ramekin of a simple blend of crushed tomatoes, garlic, onion, salt and pepper....simple and delicious. All this with a Red Stripe in a fun atmosphere. To put it simply, it was great. P.S. for the sweet tooths, they have homemade brownies, cookies and whoopie pies. We chose the red velvet whoopie pies with cream cheese frosting. Although still delicious, the only draw back was that these were sitting in the case for about a day too long and were a little dry. Still worth the $1.65 though.

When trying to decide between two places for a late lunch/early dinner on a recent family weekend trip to Chattanooga, Lupi's won in a coin toss, literally. What a fortuitous coin toss it turned out to be. We had a large party that took up one half of the front of the dining area. The staff was super-friendly and explained the menu when we ordered at the counter. Their selection of beers is really nice for a small pizza place including several high gravity choices as well as most of the offerings from New Belgium Brewery (one of my favorite brewers)! The offer fresh ingredients including several organic toppings if you're into that sort of thing. Organic or not makes no difference to me, good is good regardless and this pizza is GOOD. The sauce is fantastic and the fresh toppings are great. Our party devoured three large pies and an order of bruschetta (also very good). The atmosphere is light, friendly and reminded me heavily of my college days. All three generations of my family seated at the table really enjoyed themselves. We will be back.

We crashed overnight in Chattanooga on our way to St Pete's Beach FL. We were tired from our 10 hour drive from Chicago and VERY hungry. We accidentally and LUCKILY stumbled upon Lupi's! GREAT pizzas, GREAT atmosphere, and GREAT beer selection! We loved it so much, that we showed up a week later on our return trip! We have even recommended it to other friends who road tripped south. They loved it too! It has been nearly 2 years since we've been there and honestly, we crave it. Don't know when we'll return to Chattanooga, but it will be our first stop if/when we do...

The sustained popularity of Lupi's consistently befuddles me. I've been here at least a dozen times when I used to live in Tennessee, and I was never impressed. The interior is poorly lit. Do customers like not being able to see well? The edge of the counter around the beverage dispenser is sticky. Is that fun to deal with right before you sit down to your pizza? Each booth has an industrial-chic metal table and a dimmer switch for the light. Are these features more important than a quality pizza? The crust of a Lupi's pizza is thin, floppy, slightly gummy, and lacking in texture. The toppings aren't bad, but the moisture and weight of the toppings will completely overwhelm the thin, puny crust. (If you can call it that.) Often, the cheese and toppings will slide right off when you pick up a slice or try to cut it. On the whole, the pizza could hardly be called bad (the sauce is actually nice and zesty), but there are so many better choices!

This place wasn't too bad, but it did fail to impress me. A group of us headed here for dinner on a cold and rainy day, looking to refuel. Our group mostly ordered pizza and calzones, but I had the veggie lasagna. The pizza eaters seemed pretty happy and there weren't any leftovers. The calzones were monster-sized and looked impressive, but nobody really thought they were that great. My lasagna tasted okay, but was sorely lacking in veggies and was mostly just drowned in cheese. The fresh-brewed iced tea was good. Overall, the menu is really limited in scope and most of the food fails to impress. I guess this is a good pizza-only stop, but I'm much too loyal to Silvio's of Ann Arbor, MI to eat pizza anywhere else.

Wow. My first reaction when I walked into this place was "man, this place has really really gone to the hippies." It's always been a haven for dreadlocks and organic beer, but it seems to have gotten even more hippie-ish with the addition of organic ground beef and organic ham on the toppings list. Thankfully, however, nothing else changed. The ordering system is quite the same: order at the counter, pay up front, take a number, fill your coke cup, sit down, and wait. Side note, the beer selection got even bigger, if that was possible. The wait wasn't long, the pizza was as delicious as ever. We split a medium, with cheese on her half and ground beef, ham, and bacon on my half (nice and healthy). The crust is very thin, with just the right amount of crunch, the toppings were plentiful, and the sauce is simply to die for. It's like P-Johns in the sense that it's very sweet, but it also has some tang and spice to it. Also unlike P-Johns, it's fresh-made in house every day. Overall, a great experience and consistently one of the best places for pizza that I've yet to experience.

Local pizza place in Chattagooga, the pies are great and the atmosphere is even better. Tons of different beers to choose from and a ton of toppings for your pie!

We were driving through TN and decided to stop someplace to catch a quick bite. I used Yelp on my iPhone to search for a spot in Chattanooga and found several spots. We agreed to go to Mellow Mushroom just down the street from Lupi's. We showed up and were told that there was a 30 minute wait. We didn't want to wait the 30 mins. I jumped back on the iPhone and Yelp and found Lupi's. We went in and I fell in love. You can make your own slice of pizza or calzone. I made my own calzone. The sauce they include was fresh and tasty. This place was so good, I made it a point to return on our way back through TN. I didn't get a chance to try any of the beers as I was the main driver, but the beer selection is excellent.

OH MY. Visited Chattanooga for the weekend and we ended up eating here three times. Good beer selection and the best margarita pizza I've ever had in my life... homemade mozzarella!!! Loved it!!!!!

I heard soo much about the local Pizza Lupis..I had to stop by before leaving Chatt!!! Pizza is not Pizza...if you know what I mean, and I have to say ...Lupis did live up to its reputation!!! I got the smoked ham pizza with black olives, bell peppers and mushrooms!!! The 16inch pie was shared among the three of us...and can I just say..we were rolling out of there!!! It was soo good! The sauce is perfectt!!! Only wish I told them to make the pizza a little crispier..but besides that...it was yummolicious!!!! I am craving it just thinking about it....Only Wish they had a franchise in ATL! I would be there once a week!!! Great local pizza and def a place to stop by if visiting from out of town :D

I've been to numerous pizza places in chattanooga and this one is the best, second would be mellow mushroom. I'm pretty picky about pizza, I won't eat it unless it's gooooood, really good. The thin crust is crisp and chewy, I get mine with just cheese and a side of pesto. (never get pesto added before it's cooked, it makes pizza greasy and soggy, besides pesto is best fresh) The place is funky, everyone is nice, good prices, delicious pizza!

Lupi's is my absolute FAVORITE pizza place in Chattanooga. The calzones are amazing. Not sure why other reviewers don't like their crust because I think it's delicious. All their toppings are incredibly fresh, and there are lots of choices. The service is really fast, especially considering how busy they are all the time. The other pizza places in town seem to have lazy and slow staff consistently. Try their garden salad with the herbed vinaigrette. That and a slice of pizza with Italian sausage, roasted peppers and blue cheese kills me every time. This a fantastic local spot!

  • Kendra N.

I love Lupi's. Not only can you choose all toppings and crust, even if you just get a slice, but they will let you top your lasagne with whatever as well. Veggie or traditional lasagne! Also, really great employees. Always helpful and friendly. Been to all the stores, and I'd say Hixson is the best. Worth a try again and again.

I waited almost 30 minutes in line only... food took about 10 minutes. Plan accordingly; not an ideal set up when dining with small children. I did not think our slices were worth the wait.

I'm a sucker for Christmas lights year-round, which elevates Lupi's to a special place in my memory. I'm certainly a fan of customized pizza, and this place has a great selection of toppings. Though there are other pizza joints I might prefer, none of them are in Chattanooga. This is my pick du jour for pizza whenever I'm in town!

I ate here for lunch while in town on business. I had a slice of pizza and I like that you can order whatever toppings you want and a whole wheat crust even if you are only ordering once slice. Overall not too bad.

I moved away from Chattanooga a year and a half ago and I have yet to eat pizza half as good as Lupi's is. I vacationed in NYC a few months ago and had some pizza in the East Village and I still wished it was Lupi's. Simply the best there is.

After a day spent at the TN aquarium we walked here and thus sure hit the spot! We had a pepperoni pizza and a bread loaf. Both came out screaming hot! The bread loaf is a nice fresh bread circular loaf with a garlic olive oil dipping sauce. We enjoyed the fresh homemade food. The place is decorated uniquely. Give this place a try if you are in the area!!!!

We walked in at 12:15pm on this Saturday and had no wait. There were a few booths with people eating at them and the feeling was casual but lively. The cashier seemed to be in training but she was very sweet and knowledgable about the company. We ordered a very fresh caprese salad, two house salads with flavorful ranch dressing and the freshest tomatoes I can ever rembering eating. The 16" pizza we chose was the Margaretta pizza with bacon added. It is great they let the customers custom pick the toppings. We also ordered a calzone to share with our 5 teenage girls. The food was perfect for them to share and everyone loved it. Fresh, hot, flavorful and made me feel like the flavors of my travel in Italy. The decor is edgie and fun like Chattanooga which makes it the perfect local restaurant!

I came here for lunch with my boyfriend just yesterday. He's originally from the area, so he's very familiar with the restaurants here and told me I absolutely HAD to try the pizza here. So I said why not? I like pizza :) The restaurant is a cute little place with pretty random, eccentric decor that somehow just fits the place to a "T." You order at the counter, they give you your drinks or cups (if you got soda) and a number. You can sit anywhere and they bring the food out to you. Their menu is mainly pizza, although they do offer other things like fresh baked bread you can buy by the loaf or "Take and Bake" pizzas. When you order "Take and Bake" they basically just prepare the pizza for you, recommend how to cook it and you take it home to cook yourself. I think it's a pretty sweet concept, kinda wish more places would do that.... Anyway, their pizza menu is pretty sweet; it's got your traditional plain cheese and pepperoni pizzas, but it's got some other good suggestions and all the toppings are listed (there's a ton of them) so you have the option of making your own. You can get in three different sizes and if you want, you can split the toppings on your pizza. Since we weren't very hungry, we went with a medium pizza and split the toppings (plain cheese for me, and bacon, ham and ground beef for Jake). They also have a tonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn of beer and some hard ciders too (for those like me who are not beer drinkers); they have soda too. The pizza was wonderful. Made to order with as many fresh ingredients as possible, it was very delicious! On their menus they have their mission, their motto and bunch of other stuff basically telling you they get everything from local farmers, do their best to support the community and make everything fresh, including the dough and sauce. You can definitely tell! The sauce had a very nice peppery zing to it without being overwhelming enough so you couldn't taste the tomato and other spices. The crust was thin and crispy on the edges, but soft closer to the center of the pizza to the point that you could fold it in half. Ahhhh, just like I like it!! The toppings were good and spread well over the half of the pizza we wanted them on. My side had plenty of cheese and sauce, so what more could I ask for? It was just the right amount of food too; I felt full and content afterwards but not full to the point of getting sick. Mmm....delicious :D Their prices are pretty good; we got the pizza, a beer (for Jake) and a large (22 oz) organic import cider (for me) for about $26. I'd say that's pretty good! Plus the service was very quick considering every pizza is made fresh to order. We even got an extra cup of sauce to dip our crusts in on the house! Normally they charge you a little bit for it if you get it at the counter, but if you forget and ask for it after you've already paid (like we did) they'll just give it to you. Overall, I really liked this place and I wish there was one in DC!! It'd be a smash hit. If you get the chance to eat at Lupi's in Chattanooga, TN then do it! You'll be glad ya did :D

I had read that Lupi's was one of the top in the nation. While the pizza was good, it wasn't the best I have ever had. In fact, the sauce was too salty. Interesting decor, loved the old tv in the lady's restroom.

If you want pizza in Chattanooga, there is no better place than Lupi's. In fact, if you want pizza in just about any city I've ever been to, you'd be better off getting in a car or on a plane and heading over to Lupi's. There is a wide selection of awesome beers. Not just a wide selection of beers. The list of toppings is long and full of great stuff - you can get peppers, of course, but can also get roasted red peppers; if you order the garlic, you get big ol' garlic chunks on the pizza; the basil is fresh and perfect. Sun-dried tomatoes? Pesto? Whatever. They have it and it is very, very good. The bread loaf and salads are well-made and excellent compliments to the pizza itself. Home-made cookies and deserts are always available. And the people that work here are FOR REAL FRIENDLY. No snooty, downtown-cool-place-to-hang-out attitude or anything. The place is unique and beautiful and just gives off an excellent vibe. 100% love here. Zero problems. Also, they have a Mrs. Pac Man machine!! YES!

Love me some Lupi's! I do my best to stop by whenever I'm in Chattanooga. Pizza in Tennessee just doesn't get too much better than this. The place has a laid back, sort of hippie vibe to it. But don't let that scare you off if it's not your thing. The food is great and the staff very friendly. Bottom line, if you're in Chattanooga and looking for pizza no other establishment should even be considered.

  • Byron W.

Lupi's is the place for pizza in Chattanooga. Unlike a lot of places, you can order by the slice and get exactly what you want. Fresh toppings and the whole wheat crust option makes for a somewhat healthy meal. The red sauce is also really good. It has a bit of a kick, can't tell if it's heavy on garlic or pepper, or maybe both. They are a bit conservative with the red sauce, so if you're like me, you may want to get some extra on the side. I also really like the Lupi's salad with dried tomato French. Yum.

Good but often the bottom of the pizza will be burnt or the top undercooked. Go to the hixson lupi's.

Why is this place so popular? Gooey crust, bland sauce,-this sort of place is for people who like Pizza Inn. Awful calzones. The whole decor of the place is uncomfortable as well. Poorly flavored food overall.

    (2)
  • Tommy K.

this place has really good calzones, and a decent pizza. They would get an even higher score if they had better pizza. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad, it's just not phenomenal (I think mellow mushroom has better pizza). Their calzones however are really thick, and packed with cheese and 'toppings.' They're also pretty quick. I'd say you're looking at about 30 to 45 minutes here at lunch time. They are really popular, and there is good reason for it. I think everyone visiting should try it at least once. The only thing is the last time I went there they were still closed on Mondays (I don't know why).

Strengths: Great location off Broad Street. Walking distance of most downtown attractions. Friendly staff. Beer selection Opportunities: Can be loud. No table service. (You get own refills etc. not a deal breaker) Summary: What local pizza that taste great? This is your place.

Local spa employee recommended this place for lunch. Didn't disappoint. Really friendly staff and I liked that you can order just one slice any way you like. I got the Lilian (pesto feta pepperoni) and small salad. Very good, would definitely come again

Awesome thin crust pizza. Definitely glad we came here. Its only five minute walk from the aquarium and well worth it. They sell personalized pizza by the slice which was so nice because a 12 inch is just too much

This place is right up my alley - Fresh, local ingredients - Cool, healthy toppings in addition to traditional ones (e.g., herbed chicken, avocado, broccoli, feta...) - Delicious! - Gluten-free crust available This would definitely be my go-to pizza spot if I lived in Chattanooga!

I was in downtown Chattanooga, passing through and in need of something to eat. Since I was in the mood for pizza, I dropped into this place. . . Immediately, as you walk through the door, your senses will be assaulted by a very mellow mushroom-esque atmosphere, but press on, because the food within is amazing! I had two slices of pepperoni pizza, which were delightfully crispy on the bottom, as a thin crust pizza should be. My girlfriend partook of the calzone, with crumbled bacon. All in all, a great restaurant. Excellent selection for toppings, many different ordering options, and a large beer selection, from the looks of it. The only reason I don't give it five stars is because of the slightly Mellow mushroom feel (which isn't unpleasant, just not quite original) and the lackluster selection of fountain drinks and poor sweet tea. But I'd come back without a second thought!

We were downtown for the symphony concert and the fireworks display. I like pizza but I don't eat it often. For some reason, I was totally craving pizza on this day and after a long day of not eating, it was all I could think about. We walked to this location from across the river and the walk was so easy! Anyway, the pizza we got was really good. I used the BBQ sauce as a base and it gave the pizza a little kick. They charge like 1.90 per topping but they stop after 4 toppings (even if you get more). It's a little pricey imho but I'd read all the reviews and was very excited to try it. We were not disappointed. The atmosphere is fun and the pizza came out piping hot and gooey and perfect.

We are in Chattanooga visiting friends and Lupi's was their recommended local pizza joint. We picked it up because they don't deliver. The restaurant atmosphere was dark and small, but had a good vibe going. The pizza was better than ok, but not great. When we looked at the menu I expected to see some delicious pizza concoctions but there weren't any. You have to build your own from their list of ingredients. I didn't completely mind, but I ended up building them to reflect other pizzas at other places I like. They should come up with some of their own, people need help with stuff like that sometimes. The ingredients were fresh, but because it's located downtown, parking was a bit tough and we ended up getting the pizza a bit later because we showed up later to pick it up. May not recommend on a weekend.

Outstanding pie, and amazing beer selection. This place has a pizza joint feel and they don't let you down. If you're in the area, give them a try. You won't regret it. Had the supreme. Cracker thin crust with a great topping ratio. The only reason the rating isn't 5 stars is because I've tried 10 different pizza joints in Chicago. This is the next best thing.

I've now dined in at Lupi's and also used their Take and Bake option. The pizza is great, my wife and I really like the sauce. The service has also been really good. When we ordered take and bake, we added roasted garlic, tomatoes, and red onions. We thought that 1.95 seemed a bit steep to pay extra for a few cuts of tomato and onion, and next time we may just get cheese and add the toppings ourselves. That said, we did think the roasted garlic was worth the $1.95 charge, it was delicious and generously served!

Had a great family meal there. We have two small children and limited as to where we can eat. The food was delicious. Staff were helpful. You order at the counter and then sit. Staff will bring you your food. Refills you grab on your own. it was easy and we enjoyed a great meal.

The pizza is incredible. The dough is perfect (both the white and the wholewheat) and the sauce is zesty and rich. The atmosphere is very Hippy/90's kid and is just the place that I would want to go chill have a hot slices and crisp microbrew. The staff are hip and fit the vibe of the place perfectly. The decor is weird and awesome. Chattanooga has the best pizza in the south and it lives at Lupis.

Ambience amazing! Quaint little pizza place in downtown Chattanooga. People were very nice pretty much like every establishment in Chattanooga. Came in ordered good came out pretty fast! The fresh mozzarella appetizer is great has olive oil and herbed vinaigrette served with fresh bread! All I can say is awesome.

Fantastic pizza, very friendly staff, great location!! Get a side of sauce to dip your pizza in, it's fantastic!! Thank you, Lupi's, for making us feel so welcome and taken care of in Chattanooga!! Go, Royals! ;)

Hippy (or maybe eclectic is more appropriate) type pizza place. Pizza was really good, and the beer selection was good for such a small place (mostly bottles/cans). The service as well was excellent. I would suggest going here over Mellow Mushroom without hesitation. For lunch downtown, I would think this would be a hands-down favorite.

I've only been to Lupi's once. I went about a month ago with a friend of mine. We went for dinner on a weeknight around 6 or 7pm. The lady at the counter was very friendly and offered us a smaller menu with the popular menu items. (Which is a fabulous idea, by the way.) We ended up ordering the Lillian (feta, pesto, pepperoni) along with some bread, and we were able to find a table right away. Our bread order was quickly delivered. I mean, it's bread. So it's both delicious and difficult to screw up. Our pizza came within 10 minutes or so, and was absolutely wonderful. I don't even like pepperoni very much but I still loved it. It wasn't too loud, and they had plenty of drink options. Seems like a great place for kids and adults alike. I'll definitely go back. 4 stars simply because I haven't been here enough to, in complete confidence, give it 5.

We were in Chattanooga for a day trip for the first time, and Lupi's was our first stop! The restaurant had a cool vibe that we both enjoyed and I'm happy we were recommended to them. There was an error with our order, but staff quickly corrected it. We ordered a pepperoni pizza and were presented with a cheese pizza. After we dug in, the waitress brought over our correct pizza but let us keep both for free. Was nice to have delicious leftovers the next day. We will be back if we return to Chattanooga and recommend to friends!

This place has a unique atmosphere and some good food. I had a 16" pizza with pepperoni and olives, while my girlfriend had a gluten-free crust pizza with veggies. The food is good, we both loved our pizza, but you pay for it! Our bill was $47 because they charge $1.95 per topping, and there are no specialty pizzas you can order.

This place is located across the street from my currant job location. It is dark inside but still kind of neat. Like the old days of massive amounts of (nevermind) and a bad case of the munchies. The pizza was fair about like anywhere else I believe. The salad was also fair with some good features. The dressing was about the best part. So maybe the next time we eat here it will be a little bit better. Please

GARLIC GARLIC Gotta get my fix and man can these guys do it. TEN whole cloves on my slice of pepperoni, basil, roasted garlic pizza. Yumm! It doesn't get better. Oh wait, yes it does. They have a great beer selection.

Local fresh and a downtown staple! Lupis doesn't over exceed at anything but they set a good bench mark for local businesses. The staff is always friendly and has quick service even during the busiest times. Gluten free options along with fresh clean tasting pies.

Holy crap I keep craving this place! Unfortunately, I don't live in Chattanooga so I can't satisfy this craving. I'm so glad I saw the rave reviews for this place!! I started with the bread and olive oil...I could live on that stuff! The outside of the bread was perfectly crusty with a soft center. The olive oil had a lot of garlic in it, which is perfect for me bc I LOVE garlic! My slice came out a few minutes later. I added roasted garlic, feta and ricotta cheese to it. It was perfection. Seriously, writing this review is torture, it's setting my craving off hard!!!

Was there for an anniversary trip and we decided we wanted pizza. Found this place and it was beyond worth it. The bruschetta was probably one of the best I had ever had. The crispy bread the amazing Parmesan cheese and the "salsa" you put on top is out of this world. We each bought single slices of pizza. You can buy individual slices with any toppings you want but it must have red sauce. The pizza was so good. The crust was crispy and the toppings were piled high and good quality and prices were reasonable. Not to mention the music they had playing in the background just made it even better! Definitely will be going again!

I have become a frequent enough visitor since working nearby, and was so excited to see their new menu option of a half-order of bruschetta! Perfect for one, if you are a girl who loves the stuff, but can't do a whole platter herself. Also a big fan of their new margherita pizza with the fresh mozz. Note- the slices are big and I love that they are available all the time (not just limited hours and/or days like MM or Hill City) but don't let your eyes out-do your tummy... So glad I have an option besides (longtime, beyond Chatt fave) MM, and will definitely be trying their take-home-to-bake option soon!

Overall great experience. Went to the location downtown, welcomed at the door by TJ (think that's his name ?), the manager (I think). Great suggestions for an over the top meat lovers kind of special they had tonight. Thin crust, all natural ingredients, not overcooked or crust burned. Good food was matched by very friendly staff. Everyone looked like they actually wanted to be there and wanted to help (sadly, how rare is that these days). Loud music, but for me was not a knock, as their selection was really good. This would be a good place to bring kids, very casual atmosphere. Unafraid to just be casual with some pretty damn good food. We'll be back. Great job, guys.

Amazing pizza and atmosphere. Seriously one of the best slices of pizza I've ever had! I would recommend to anyone and everyone!

This pizza is so worth writing a review for! Fresh ingredients, (the roasted garlic topping is amazing!) , tasty sauce, fresh mozzarella, and thin crust... Perfect. The atmosphere is chill, great music, the seating is crowded, but that just shows you that the pizza is worth waiting for. The local beer is stellar too. We would definitely come back here when we visit Chattanooga again and I would recommend this place to anyone!

Visiting Chattanooga, we wanted some local pizza, but we never reached the counter to order. The line was long, but seemed like it would be a reasonable amount of time. We waited and waited. Three separate couples behind us got tired of waiting and left. The only time the line moved was when the family ahead of us left. We left, too. Another would-be customer said that people kept cutting in line up front. If true, the staff needed to address that.

Great atmosphere and wonderful food! If I'm ever back in Chatanooga this is a place I'd have to come back too. Would highly recommend.

This is a good pizza place with a really local feel. The pizza comes out fast and they have a lot of toppings and options. They have some local beers on tap and available in can/bottles. They also have gluten free options if you are into that. I will say that I think it needs to be cleaned a little but I think it's that way because there is a lot of service being done. It's fast, you order at the counter and get your own drinks so the wait staff is getting you in and out. Overall, the pizza is really good, ingredients local and fresh. Go here over the other chain restaurants that are in downtown.

This pizza place has a great atmosphere and the pizza is amazing. Homemade dough and baked right on the brick. Tons of ingredients to choose from. Has a good selection of beers too. One of the best pizzas in chattanooga

Absolutely amazing! We got takeout and loved both of the pizzas we got. Friendly waiting staff, speedy turnout (especially considering we went at rush hour!) and great food. You can tell they use fresh local ingredients from the quality of the taste I couldn't have asked for more from a hometown-homemade local pizza place!

This place was recommended by a friend as "The Best Pizza" while I was visiting Chattanooga. It was walking distance to where I was staying so I figured I'd give it a shot. Most times when someone says a place is "The Best", I usually come away disappointed but not this time. My friend's comment was spot on! First off, the atmosphere here is quite relaxed. It's dark, there is bar stool seating at a table in the middle and on the left side of the restaurant. The table in the middle is among poles made into trees with strings of lights in the branches. On the right side, there are very comfortable booths with stainless steel tables. Also on the walls is an information board and local art. You order at the counter and they bring it out to you. Their menu was a bit confusing to me but they said they can basically make anything into a pizza or calzone. They have vegetarian and vegan options, white or wheat crust and there's a gluten free option. I went with a few slices of a meat pizza. One of the slices was wheat crust. Let me say this, that this is the best pizza crust I have ever tasted. It's like and very edible whereas most pizza crusts for me are left on the plate. Theirs was completely devoured! Also, there is no skimping on the toppings here. It was a very tasty meat pizza. The staff here is very friendly. I was asked by 3 different people on my opinion and yes, this was definitely some of the best pizza I've ever had!

  • Linda P.

The pizza is quite good. The atmosphere is neat too. They actually have a bigger menu than is on the wall but no menus were lying around and didn't see the specialty menu until after we had ordered. Like to see the specialty combinations instead of making our own. The beer was cold and food was quick so thats a plus. The bread appetizer has good dipping sauce but I would go with the bruschetta instead.

cramped area. Not a lot of seating. Excellent pizza but very high prices. Don't understand why there is only one dollar sign. A regular pizza is $22!!!! not cheap but very good.

  • Carolyn M.

Eclectic interior, great beer selection, fresh salads (the caprese is amazing and the garden has the best croutons I've ever had), and of course, delicious pizza. The crust is crunchy and not greasy, which is my preference. A nice non chain alternative in a very convenient location downtown. I also liked the paper towel dispensers randomly around the dining room. Just like kindergarten!

Absolutely fantastic experience! I mean...they have a disco ball on the ceiling! The food was absolutely fantastic, handcrafted pizza and calzones. Service and atmosphere was terrific! Value was outstanding and we will eat here again!

You can't go wrong with Lupi's. I REPEAT, you cannot. Their bruschetta is the stuff of legend. Their salads are SO fresh with things you don't normally get like sprouts and mushrooms, and house dressings. Their pizzas are awesome too, but I mostly just order bruschetta and salad because they are so damn good as stand-alones. The atmosphere is really quirky. I just love it. Good selection of beer as well, if that's your thing.

Loved the food and atmosphere. My wife and I enjoyed our pizza and calzone. Portion sizes are acceptable, and the staff is friendly. My wife is a harsh critic of pizza, and she wanted to give a 3 star review, but I'm hedging at a 4 based on other factors like price, atmosphere, and staff. I would definitely come back.

Soooo amazingly good! I live in Atlanta, was visiting Chattanooga, stumbled on this pizza joint. Best pizza I have ever had. The ingredients were completely fresh, beer cold, atmosphere, singles, couples, family...everyone!! Line out the door, don't let it scare you, it is worth the short wait. I actually drove from Atlanta to Chattanooga for an evening at their pizza joint once. It is that good!!

This is my favorite, must-visit place to eat whenever I'm in Chattanooga. I'm so glad I got to introduce it to my husband and daughters! I'm a fan of the local ingredients and the intimate feel of the establishment.

on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, Tony, Matt, Lora, Janie, Ethan, Dakota and I had a much needed lunch at Lupie's Pizza Pie in Chattanooga, Tn. It was the first time there for all of us and the Pizza was really good. I would definitely go there again.

I'm a fan of local pizza and this is one of my favorite pizza places in the south. It is a great spot that has amazing bruschetta and thin and crispy pizza that rivals the northeast.

    (4)
  • Taylor L.

Tasty calzone. The large is HUGE and easily split. Toppings are free after you've ordered four, so load em up. The bruschetta pieces are big...but not traditional bruschetta as I was expecting. My husband loves their marinara, I thought it was just okay.

A must in Chattanooga! We visited twice in our week there. Perfect crust with plenty of good, locally sourced topping options. Great selection of beer and yummy balsamic dressing. Order by the pie or by the slice. Atmosphere is very comfortable, though a little small and crowded. But worth the wait for a table.

  • Melissa D.

This place was really hyped up to us tourists, and while it was good - there wasn't anything extremely special about it. I ordered a white pizza with broccoli and spinach, and when it came out I noticed it came with tomato sauce. I asked if I was receiving the right order, and the gentleman delivering the pizza to our table said "yes, all of our white pizzas have tomato sauce." I have no issue with tomato sauce on pizza, but it was not a traditional white pizza. A few friends in our group ordered the calzones, and they were HUGE! They looked to be pretty incredible too!

    (3)
  • Steve P.

That's a huge calzone! The pizza dough is so good that I ate the large calzone in one sitting (could have saved half for later). Mellow atmosphere good beer and great pizza. They even had a vintage table top arcade game that brought me back to my childhood pizza parlor days.

This is the place for great pizza! I have been eating here for years and it is always a great experience. The reason I'm writing this review is because I had an exceptional experience with my most recent dining. I was dining in with a friend and had made a togo order as well. When receiving my togo order the manager brought it to my table and said, "They had accidentally over cooked the crust and would be happy to make me another." I appreciate the honesty and willingness to go the extra mile for excellent costumer service!

Very good pizza. My boyfriend and I stopped in for lunch while visiting the area. You can get pizza by the slice or a whole pizza. My boyfriend and I each got a slice of pizza and a drink, we also got the bread loaf with the dipping oil and it was $15. Price seemed reasonable for fresh pizza. The dipping oil for the bread was a bit garlicky, but still pretty good. The pizza tasted super fresh. I'm pretty picky about pizza sauces and theirs was really good. Food came out quickly. Definitely a must if you are in the area.

Went to mellow mushrooms and they took forever to greet my son and I. So I got up and walked out. We went back to Lupi's pretty good pizza. It is fun to watch the cooks toss the pizza 's my son 4 enjoyed the waitresses.

  • Clare G.

Pizza is totally customizable and hella tasty. Two very hungry climbers will feel satisfied after sharing one 16-inch pie. A little expensive if you put more than one topping on, but I think it was worth it. Good beer selection too!

  • Luke T.

Fresh = Delicious. Stop looking, just eat here. I think this may be your best meal in Chattanooga. I think everything they make is from scratch. We ordered their Calzone with ground sausage, red onions and basil and it was awesome. It came with a red sauce on the side and that sauce is great. We ordered a medium Pizza Magherita cos it was made with fresh mozzarella. Hand tossed wheat dough, fresh mozzarella and sweet local tomatoes. I don;t think i have ever had a better Pizza Magherita. Family friend, fresh food, fast service, ... this place is great

  • Juney S.

I have been eating here for years, and have loved it every time! I have even gotten to know some of the friendly staff, who are always helpful and polite. Their menu provides nearly endless combinations of fresh, healthy, and often locally produced toppings. As a vegetarian, I have been pleased with the variety of toppings available. There are also vegan and gluten-free options. Fear not meat eaters, though! They have (what I have been told by my meat eating friends) really high quality meat toppings as well. There are also other options besides just straight up pizza. Some of the best salads I have ever had were from Lupi's and they also serve Lasagna and Calzones. The bruschetta makes an excellent appetizer, and they have a nice selection of beers available. The Downtown store is still my favorite, but I am happy to see them spreading over the Chattanooga, and even beyond! This is, in my opinion, the best Pizza in Chattanooga, and I have had a hard time finding anything better pretty much anywhere else either! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone in the downtown area, or any of the other store areas as well!

Lupis is a wonderful place if you are looking for more of a New York style pizza. You can buy entire pizzas or, by the slice where you pick your own toppings. It is absolutely the best NY style pizza that I have had outside of NY. My wife had the calzone, which is also pretty stinking delicious!

Super nice people working today while we visited! Great Christmas decorations too lol! We had the bread loaf that was amazing fresh from the oven! It's served with a garlic oil for dipping. We had a large pizza that was half spicy chicken and half pepperoni and bacon...it was awesome and the perfect amount of food for the four of us. They even brought us extra garlic oil and ranch to dip our pizza in! Really nice service! There's also beer selection...I had the rogue dead guy ale that I would have finished but I'm driving the rest of the day and don't wanna be beer tired! Great place and I'd def come back anytime. Thanks for having us!

Funky little pizza place downtown. A mixture of blues and alternative vibe. It's hard to park around downtown so give your self about 15mins to park and walk. You can get pizza by the slice , calzones or just a whole bread loaf. Starts getting super busy around lunch time so get here early! Plus they have GLUTEN free pizza definitely a plus in my book!

  • Matt H.

The bruschetta was 5 stars all the way. We got the half order and LOVED it. But since this is a pizza joint, I'll give this place 4 stars because that's what I would rate the pizza. We ordered the herb chicken with spinach and dried tomatoes. I want to give it 5 stars, but I just can't. It's still unreal good and I will eat here again when I'm back in town.

  • Shannon W.

Three out of four of us really liked the pizza and the other thought it was OK. Two medium pizzas, three sodas, and one beer with tip was $ 54. The pizza had light sauce which I like along with fresh ingredients, like fresh spinach and mushrooms. The atmosphere was unique with lights in fake built trees and there was not a lot of seating. Some bar style seating with some tables and booths. The timing of the pizza took a but but was well worth the wait in my opinion. The cost of the pizza racks up if you get lots of toppings since you pay a base cheese pizza rate then add toppings. The place was clean and the restrooms were very roomy but just one per sex so women were waiting. Very welcoming environment as far as the staff goes. Overall I'm giving it a 4 because there is no 3.5.

  • Tim F.

Great pizza and atmosphere. They had a discount for people staying at the hostel I stayed at which was cool. I got a calzone, and it was one of the best I've ever had. Cheese was sweet and soft and the sauce that came with it on the side was a perfect combination of sweet and Italian to mix with the TONS of pepperoni they put on it- that's a good thing, in case you were wondering. I wish there was a lupi's in Birmingham. It's crazy good.

I couldnt beleive I found myself, a Chicago guy, waiting in line at a pizza joint in Chattanooga, TN. Man am I glad I did though!!! The ingredients were super fresh! I had a calzone with shedded chicken, red onion, jalapenos, cheddar cheese and bbq sauce from Sticky Fingers right down the street....awesome flavors!!! Fresh ingredients!!! Chattanooga really surprised me the way the downtown area has been revitalized since other times I have passed through here. Lupi's is in a great location, close to Walnut Street Bridge....My wife and I loved the city and really had a great meal at Lupi's!!!!

  • Melissa P.

We grabbed dinner at Lupi's while spending a night in Chattanooga. We were in the mood for pizza, and looking for a place within walking distance of our hotel on Broad. Since we're from Atlanta, Mellow Mushroom is something we can get any time, so we decided to give Lupi's a shot. Good stuff. Any place that has Dr Pepper on tap gets a thumbs-up in my book. We went for the large. It was indeed very large, and with our bread loaf appetizer (bread with olive oil/garlic for dipping), was way more than enough pizza for two people (especially two people on a one-day trip with no fridge or microwave for leftovers). Service was friendly, space was clean, and I always prefer to give my business to something local when I'm in another city. Only major setback; they were temporarily out of stock of Duff Beer.

Amazing and unique atmosphere. Friendly staff, excellent food. I'd absolutely recommend this place to anyone heading to Chatanooga.

I had the mini calzone with peperoni, onions, mushrooms, and spinach. Comes with side of red sauce. More than enough for lunch. My husband had two slices of pizza with peperoni, sausage, red onion, and green peppers. Both were fabulous. Fresh ingrediants, amazing crust and pizza sauce. Will definitely go back when we visit chattanooga again.

    (5)
  • Gaby S.

I could totally see why people love this place. It takes forever to get your pizza but is well worth the wait. We opted for the wheat crust pizza with zucchini, onions, and mushrooms. They don't add too much sauce and they certainly put their fare share of toppings in it. Our service was great. The guy behind the counter was friendly and funny, the servers made sure our table was clean and brought us the pizza nice hot. But it does get crowded so be sure to have some patience.

  • Michael S.

Excellent Pizza!!! It was getting late and we wanted something fast that we could take back to the hotel. Lupi's was nearby and ended up being a terrific choice. My kids enjoyed a cheese pizza, while I chowed down on a pepperoni and green olive pizza. The crust was great, sauce perfect and toppings fresh. My wife ate the veggie lasagna and loved it. While we didn't eat in the restaurant, the service seemed friendly and fast. My only complaint would be that the facilities were a little tight due to the crowd of folks and the noise would likely have become a bit much had we decided to dine-in. Overall, great place to grab a pizza.

Not the best pizza I've had, but great service and friendly people. The soft drink machine is the right night for tall people also

  • Susannah D.

This might be the best pizza I've ever had. Not even trying to be dramatic, it's really that good. The whole wheat crust was out of this world excellent. As my boyfriend just asked, "doesn't this crust just speak to you?" I haven't even gone in to the countless bazillions of fresh toppings, the fact that you put 4 on a pizza and any topping after that is FREE, or the happy pizza dough dude tossing pies in the air two at a time like this is the greatest job he has ever and will ever have. Love this place. Go. Eat. Be happy.

I've lived in Chattanooga for 5 years, and I have been to Lupi's more than anywhere else. It is amazing. Their calzones are huge. They look like babies. Food is great and atmosphere is great.

    (5)
  • Jeff B.

Best pizza in Chattanooga. What else can I say? If you love pizza, don't go anywhere else. Lots of topping options, the crust is incredible, the use local ingredients and the atmosphere (and crowd) is a huge improvement compared to the Mellow Mushroom across the street.

  • Melissa G.

We settled on this place after a pretty awful experience with Bluewater Grill. The line was crazy long and the ordering process took forever. Plus, there was some crazy rude guy two people in front of us. Despite this.....4 stars. The pizza is delicious. I can't boast about being from NY or Chicago, but I am a fat kid at heart. The crust was so crunchy and awesome. The sauce was flavorful, the spinach fresh and crunchy. The beer list is extensive and full of awesome choices. The employees are friendly. The decor is cute. The price isn't too bad. All in all, this is the best place to eat we've found in Chattanooga. I am sold. Next time through town I'll skip all those crappy, over-priced, over-rated garbage spots and just come here. Thanks for saving my faith in Chattanooga, Lupis!!

  • John V.

Wow. We were in the Chattanooga area on a little road-trip and playing tourists at Ruby Falls... decided the food there was too expensive, so we brought up Yelp on my phone and I started reading off the nearby places... we decided Pizza sounded good and Lupi's had enough reviews and a positive enough rating. I'm an east coaster who's gone to NYC enough to know his Pizza and the rest of the travelers were native Chicagoans, so we're all pretty picky when it comes to Pizza. We were ALL in shock at how tasty and perfect this pizza was. We got one 16" pepperoni, one slice of italian sausage and a loaf of bread... it was ALL amazingly good.

  • David N.

As intent as I was to experience every establishment in downtown Chattanooga, I have now eaten Lupi's three nights in a row. (OK, yesterday was leftover pizza from the night before but the place was closed yesterday anyway). Pizza = awesome. Lasagna = amazing. Beer selection = stupendous. Staff = super friendly and helpful. Even helped me select a great new beer because she knew what I would like. I love the feel of the place and the overall theme. Despite what someone else posted, I think the music is fun. But the food is what will keep me coming back. The sauces are lighter than I am used to and I think that helps me enjoy it without feeling bloated. Plus the pizza crust was great tasting without making me overly full. Besides all that, I want to be friends with everyone who works here because they all seem so awesome!

    (5)
  • Natalie S.

The pizza here is amazing. They have such unique toppings. I love the peppers, onions, corn and fresh sausage. If it is during a rush it can be hard to find seating inside but the tables usually turn over quickly. One of the most useful things for me is the "take and bake". You can call in, let them know what you want and pick up a pizza to bake at home (just like it sounds).

    (5)
  • Scott S.

Absolutely fantastic. Cool decor, great pizza. Had a Coke with my lunch, but it looked like a great craft beer selection was available, too. We were visiting from Atlanta and chose Lupi's based on previous reviews and could not have been happier with our choice.

  • Kati H.

Y'all. Three words: spicy chicken pizza. I have had an ongoing love affair with this stuff since my senior year of high school. They literally make the best pizza in Chattanooga. The people who work there are super friendly and even let me have my senior chapel talk lunch there on Monday (when they are usually closed). Nothing but good things to say about this place.

    (5)
  • Travis L.

Really cool local pizza place. They have the most topping options I've ever seen. We were staying down the street at the Sheraton and walked through Downtown to get here. Downtown is a very nice and safe area. We got a 16 inch cheese pizza and it was pretty good. Nice mix of a different sauce and heavy cheese. If you are in the area and looking for pizza i would certainly check this place out. The only downside is the dubstep music that is played.

    (4)
  • Ryan S.

This has to be the best pizza I've ever had! The Italian sausage has just the right amount of kick to it! Wish I lived here so I could frequent this place!

For once in my life I'll star by star justify the 5 I'm gonna give Lupi's. One for still being here. I used to come to Lupi's during my (brief) time as a student at UTC in 1996-97. It was one of the few bright eating spots as I can remember in what was still a crappy downtown Chattanooga (that has most definitely changed for the better). Two for being full of good beer and good prices on it. The pitchers are 12 dollars, so when my wife and I were hanging out there the other night we kept 'em coming. The beer by the bottle list is also very thorough. 3 For great pizza and calzones. Be warned, though. The calzones are humongous. The ingredients are fresh. You might have to wait awhile to get your food, but that's because it;s usually mad busy and they're making it fresh for you. So be happy. I recommend the locally bought ground sausage. I had that in a calzone the other night and it was tasty. 4 for Good desserts. There aren't a ton, but the cookies were great and the zucchini bars were really damn good. The buttermilk frosting sort of made my day, to be honest. 5 For being a comfortable place to eat. BUT I must warn you. It's not a big place. We got mad lucky the other night that we were able to grab a table (the last one) after we placed our order. Otherwise I would have been left standing with my beer pitcher for awhile (people tend to linger. We were no different). Normally I might penalize a star for the lack of seating, but they don't hassle or badger you to get up and leave. If we'd seen people looking sadly for a place to sit we would've headed on out. But it was quietish so we chilled awhile.

  • Jon T.

I liked Lupi's. They have a good beer selection and we had a good, no nonsense pizza with Italian sausage (sliced links) and green olive. This is our favorite. The crust was nice, fresh and tender, not too thick, not too thin. The sauce was also fresh with some crushed tomatoes. I was glad we chose it, not only for the food, but for a somewhat divey atmosphere. This is a good everyday place.

  • Mike M.

Incredible pizza, funky atmosphere, and a nice beer selection. Do it, do it now.

    (5)
  • Zeb M.

I like my crust to be a little thicker, but that's just me. Lupi's has the best pizza in Chattanooga. Their toppings are unbelievably fresh! The atmosphere is really laidback and nice, too.

    (5)
  • Eliza R.

The ambiance of Lupi's is really chill and funky, and everyone who works there is super cool and nice. Anytime I have a friend visit me from out of town, I take them here. They have just about any topping you can imagine and the crust is delectable and probably my favorite part. The calzones are also HUGE and I always end up taking some back with me in a box. My favorite toppings at Lupi's are: roasted garlic, pesto and sun-dried tomatoes. Yum!

  • David M.

Wonderful options on Pizza and on pizza's best compliment...beer. Hip place that caters to both young hipsters and the young at heart. Can't go wrong with good food, vegan options and solid beer selection. You could eat there every day of the week and have a new experience. The staff there is some of the greatest, friendliest, and a helpful there ever was. This place was recommended by a local and did not disappoint.

  • Amanda M.

Once upon a time, there were three Nashville girls who were bored one night and hopped in a car to Chattanooga, headed straight to Lupi's because one of the girls' visits years prior had left her with insatiable cravings for their calzones. Lucky for her the other two are adventurous. And let's be honest, lucky for me! We walked in and were memorized by the huge wall o' toppings to choose from. Also a little distracted by the amazing ambiance: twinkle lights and unique artwork - loved it! I ordered two (ginormous) slices of pizza with pepperoni, black olives, squash, zucchini and tomatoes. Holy mother of god. And I washed it down with an ice cold pint of Fat Tire. Best idea ever.

  • David E.

To start off this a build your own pizza place or so the menu reflects as there are no specialty pizzas as offered by most places. This is fine as I don't mind to make I one if a kind creation. We started with the caprese salad which was flavorless and bland. Granted they did not have heirloom tomatoes to use as they would have normally but the mozzarella had no taste at all and the small amount if balsamic vinegar drizzled over the top was unnoticeable. Not impressed so far. Our pizza took about 45 mins to come out. The pizza was also bland and very in impressive. As my fiancé described, it taste like sbarro mall pizza with the ability to add toppings. They only get 2 stars for being local and using a few local ingredients.

    (2)
  • W L.

Honestly their pizza is dank. (Dank = really good). It's a nice space, though not a ton of seating. I'm not sure what else to say. Really nice to get to customize your pizza, and importantly the dough is GOOD. And to boot, it's reasonably priced. Especially if you split up a pizza between some friends. Their beers selection is also decent!

  • Neil A.

I love Lupi's for a lot of reasons: one of the best pizzas I've ever had - equal to the Front Room in San Fran. Plus they have whole wheat and gluten free dough, local ingredients and a killer beer list. Cool kitsch atmosphere in a great location in downtown Chattanooga. Hixson store is just as good even being in the burbs.

This is as good as pizza gets here. Really, Lupi's has no competition that I've found yet. I miss my pizza in the northeast. In a nutshell, the ingredients are fresh. We love the "take and bake" concept. But still, it is a little bland and the crust lacks character. Sigh! They are pricey, but I understand why. A+ ingredients on the pie. We have started just buying the dough from them and making our own at home. I can perk up the crust a bit and use my favorite San Marzano tomatoes to make a great sauce. All in all, it is a good product in a pizza world that is so lacking in the Chattanooga area.

Pizza Wednesdays!!! That's what my co-workers and I used to do when we worked in Chattanooga. This is definitely our favorite joint!! We love the inexpensive and have-all-the-toppings-you-want pizzas at Lupi's!!! The wait could be long if it gets busy, but a drink and a brownie to start off can keep us busy (or full by the time the pizzas are ready ;p). Loved this place... I wish we have one back home!!

My friends and I always go to Lupi's after rock climbing at nearby Foster Falls. Lupi's has great pizza--tons of fresh toppings piled on a thin crust. I'm partial to the whole wheat with spicy chicken or anchovies. They've also got great calzones and lasagna, as well as an extensive bottled beer selection. There are always tons of young people there, so it seems like a pretty cool place to be.

We checked this place out on Tripadvisor as well as Yelp and TA said this place is the #3 restaurant in Chattanooga. I would sincerely hate to see #4,5,&6. We tried a white sauce pizza with spicy chicken, spinach, and green olives and it was *the* lamest pizza I've ever had. We also had one with red sauce that was better, but the crust was like cardboard and the toppings were so sparse, we needed to hunt for them. The bruchetta was tasty, but who can mess up garlic bread, really? Take a step up and go to Little Caesar's for your pizza or make it yourself!!

Love the pizza and different kinds of toppings. Lots of beer to choose from and nice vibe when you sit down and eat.

This is my favorite pizza place and probably eatery in chattanooga. Whenever I come back home to visit I have to go. And if your looking for a pizza place w/ unique, fresh ingredients I haven't found a better place in the whole country. It also had a great atmosphere.
