I've passed by this place many times and wanted to stop it but it was never open when I tried. Well, I finally got the chance and am glad I did. Not just a bakery but they also have donuts! Real donuts. Not DD or KK but just good ol' fashioned donuts. They also had some cookies that I think were the best cookies I've ever had, double chocolate pecan. Oh my! Can't wait to go back and try more stuff.

So, confession. I really really wanted to give Koch's Bakery five stars. I even tried things that were my favorites and wanted to really really like them. After it's all said and done, it earns about a 3.5 stars. I'm a NW GA native who identifies with Chattanooga as my hometown. As such, a throwback place like Koch's really makes me want to support them and what they do. I buy cookies from here every Christmas for clients but I hadn't really tried many of the sweets for myself until recently. My fiancee and I were coming through Chattanooga on our way to Atlanta and wanted to stop by for a snack. I had been telling her about the (amazing) cookies from here for months and finally worked up an appetite enough to stop. We got an assortment of items and the one I was most happy about was the Coca-Cola Cake. I really wanted to like it more than I did. It's mostly just chocolate cake. I guess I'm used to a different style of Coca-Cola cake but this one seemed to lack creativity and the characteristics which differentiate a Coca-Cola Cake from a Chocolate Cake. I didn't hate it but I wasn't super impressed. The best thing we tried was the blueberry doughnut. It was so fruity and bright and light and had a perfect frosting on it. Everything else on the menu would have earned this place 3 stars (other than the cookies). Pros: The cookies and blueberry doughnuts are top notch. Cons: Some things on the menu were just okay and didn't surprise us or overwhelm us in any kind of way. Overall: There are some major stars on the menu including the cookies and blueberry doughnuts. Unfortunately, not everything lives up to these. It's a great spot and a good, local bakery that doesn't get enough acclaim.

I stop by here every time I am on my way to visit a friend and her family in Nashville. They are addicted to the thumbprint cookies at this bakery so I always pick up several dozen. You can purchase the thumbprint cookies fresh from the display case or purchase them in their prepackaged boxes, which I suppose they use when selling their baked goods at other local stores. My only complaint is the complete lack of vegan options. You can retain the traditional bakery taste and feel but offer healthy, compassionate alternatives to animal-based baked goods. Otherwise, a charming little bakery.

This review is only for their cookies. I didn't try anything else although everything looked delicious. I've driven by this place numerous times but it was usually closed. I was in the area on a Saturday morning and tried it. The staff is friendly and I was greeted when I came in. I ordered a snicker doodle, sugar, and chocolate chip cookie. The cookies really didn't have that much flavor and weren't soft (the chocolate chip was but not the other two). They were dry and brittle but I guess that's the approach the bakery takes with the snicker doodle and sugar cookies. The chocolate chip was soft but like the other two the flavor was so-so.

Large selection of donuts with a variety of kinds. Cake, yeast, fritter, twists, filled. These things are made with love and served up with great customer service. There is plenty of parking to the side of the building next to their heavenly donut mural. Solid local bakery and donut shop.

While on vacation in Chattanooga my niece had a birthday. I wanted the day to be special and the cake was a part of that. I had a picture of the cake I wanted. I stopped in and gave them the picture and paid for the cake. Two days later I picked the cake up. It was gorgeous and delicious. Very moist and the icing was just right. If you are a local or a visitor this is the bakery to go to.

Great pastries, cookies, and doughnuts. My son had a Danish and it was so soft and flaky. My husband and I had a stuffed chocolate chip cookie sandwhich. We also bought two doughnuts for other family to try. Maple iced doughnuts that smell wonderful and taste heavenly according to daughter. First time we visited and we will be back. Stop by and check them out. The cakes look good too in fact that my be the next birthday cake order.

What's sweet is sweeter here, but you'll not find a better apple fritter. The various tea cookies are excellent. Recently, we picked up my birthday cake from Koch's and it truly was delicious. Give them a try! And as the other review mentions don't be intimidated by the building...therein is a bakery I am thrilled to live near!

I consider myself a doughnut connoisseur. (So do my pants which all appear to be getting smaller?) The chocolate creme filling doughnut I had the other day from Koch's was THE BEST doughnut I have ever eaten. I adore how they seal all their doughnuts with a nice thin layer of perfect glaze. The retro no-frills ambience of the place suits the bakery's fare, which transports us back to a time when baking with margarine would have been considered sacrilege. They could probably afford to throw a few more tables and chairs in and really make the place cozy, but my guess is that their chief order of business is being a purveyor of excellent cookies, cakes and doughnuts. I am in deep trouble now that I know how accessible this bakery is on the outskirts of the Southside. Deep fried, deep kind of trouble.

A Chattanooga institution. Don't be scared of the industrial-looking exterior. Go inside and order their thumbprint cookies or any of their delicious cakes.

My colleges brought doughnuts to the office in one day and I didn't think twice about what kind they were. I had NO idea doughnuts could be this good. This bakery not only cares about variety and creativity, but they really step it up a notch in terms of taste and texture. Highly recommend!

Trip down memory lane this week! When we lived in Chattanooga, when I was a little thing, my mom absolutely loved coming to Koch's for all kinds of treats. As others have noted, it is a true Chattanooga institution. Headed out towards Lookout Mountain the other day, we passed by and absolutely had to stop. The aroma when you walk in the door - holy guacamole! Irresistible. We pretty much loaded up - my favorite, thumb print cookies (in the classic little white paper bags, of course), Easter sugar cookies for Mom to take to bridge back in Atlanta the next day, chocolate chip and peanut butter cookies for my dad's after dinner treat, and at least two different kinds of cinnamon buns and twists. I loved the thumb prints; didn't love the egg-shaped, cutely iced large petit four as it was too sweet, a little cloying, and a yellow cake not the traditional white. I'd give their regular ones a shot though. Super nice teenager at the counter, who was knowledgeable and helpful in us making our selections. Prices, like many things in town, noticeably lower than at home - our whole stash was $18 and change. Everything else was enjoyed, all around, and now I have a spot here that makes me not as sad not to have Henri's or International Bakery like at home!

Kind staff, open early, best apple fritter on the planet. The old fashion sour cream is also amazing.
