Moved in 2009. Everyone raved about their chicken. I love the old fashioned turn table theme. That is the unique quality of this place because I have never been to an establishment that serves like that. The sides are delicious and I LOVE their peach cobbler. Customer service is wonderful. The chicken though. Eh I am sorry to day that everytime I go, it's dry and sweet. Never had sweet chicken til I went here and don't care for it. I will continue to go, simply for the service and other goodies. But the 4 star is due to the chicken.

Solid-solid-solid buffet-style home style meals. Fried fish was excellent, as was the fried (see a pattern, here?) Chicken. The sides of pinto beans, mac 'n cheese, incredible cole slaw (!) potatoes made as good a home meal I've enjoyed since I've left home. April, our server, made certain that our Lazy Susan carousel of delicious food items was never lacking, always replacing food dishes exactly when needed, as well as bringing extra ice for our teas. I'll admit, the thought of sitting at a table with strangers while we spun the food carousel was a bit "off-putting" - but the conversation and comradely attitudes of our fellow diners quickly won us over to the concept. Plus, the effect of the carousel serving concept was almost cornucopia-like: Whenever a serving dish began to run low, it 'magically' reappeared refilled on the next pass! Okay, the 'magic' was Ms April! Bea's is a place that (honestly) generations of locals quietly attend and support. "A word; to the wise......." Paved parking lot, room along the back for large vehicles. Great ADA access! Senior discount for those of 60 years of age; which is just a tad 'under' how long Bea's has been serving their scrumptious meals. Eat here, and drive a short distance and visit Walter A. Woods, an old-school hardware institution.

The only thing I found good was the fried chicken and the ckicken n dumplins. First of all the place is old as dirt nothing has ever been updated.I found it to be dirty and just prayed we wouldn't get sick! The potato salad and cole slaw were already sitting with the potato salad already been eaten out of. Water rings stoll on the table and not cleaned well from previous diners. Something floating in the tea. The worst bbq I have ever tried, cornbread was old, greens and okra were decent. Potatoes in a thick sauce bit flavorless. Pinto beans most likely from a can. Cherry cobbler was cherrys in sauce! Bowls are replaced without asking mostly. There was a lot of food left on our table so I can't help but wonder if all this food is wasted or reserved either way is bad!!! Yuk yuk yuk...an experience I won't foget! I can't get over how this place is still in business!

Low-quality, cheap food but I'm not actually "complaining" given that it cost $12.50. The fried chicken was NOT special in any way and had little flavor. Everything was mediocre--not bad, just not particularly good.

I have been in the Army for 22 years and my wife is from the area. For the last 20 years, Beas had been one of the spots we would hit every time we came back to visit. Yesterday after our meal I asked the owner who was running the cashier if they had a military discount. He replied that the only discount that they had was for senior citizens. This was not a problem for me and I paid my bill and left. The customer behind me said "I don't understand these military people asking for handouts." To which the owner replied "I know they keep asking and I ain't going to give it to them." The owner apparently did not realize that my wife was still in the restaurant. I was not asking for a handout and I find it very insulting that the owner would portray our veterans as freeloaders asking for a handout.

BEST Fried Chicken ALL YOU CAN EAT Buffet EVER!!!! If you want to have the best traditional southern comfort food, please come here. I know most people don't like to share a table with strangers, if that's true, invite some friends. But the food is amazing!!

If you like a local crowd, group seating at large tables, lazy Susans rotating food for all, fried chicken, cream potatoes, and good solid southern food selections, then this is certainly the place for y'all to come! Bring your entire family because there'll be more food than you can possibly eat! Great place serving many generations of locals.

Southern' food -- family style!!! I love this place. The ambiance is southern casual with a touch of home. Be prepare to be seated with others and let the conversations flow. This is one of the best part of Bea's -- you get to enjoy great food with others. No worries if you're shy, you'll feel at home in seconds. The lazy susan is constantly replenished with piles of fried chicken, baked beans, cornbread, collar greens and other side dishes that the kitchen serves up depending on the market availability. Save room for dessert, the peach cobbler, you'll be happy you did. The buffet, $10/per person, is still one of the best in town.

Chasing the Dragon at Bea's When I arrived in Chattanooga 26 years ago a friend took me to Bea's. Being broke, hungry, and unfamiliar with Chattanooga's restaurants, I enjoyed the food. It was almost home-cooking. Since 1987 though, my repeat visits have never equaled that first visit in taste. I'll admit that buffets, lazy Susan style, and eating with groups of unknown people at the table do not give me a warm fuzzy feeling. But each repeat trip over two decades (the last few at the request of friends or clients) leaves me wondering what happened. The good flavor of the food has dropped. That can be as much the abilities of the cooks as quality of the food. In earlier times bacon grease, lard, salt, all those things that make for good southern-style foods now seem non-existent or incorrect. Even the taste of the much vaunted fried chicken is lacking. Whether it's the cooking or quality doesn't matter if the taste isn't right. I'm also more aware of overall cleanliness and appearances than before. There's something about the old building and location that doesn't sit well with me (many newer restaurants have me questioning the cleanliness as well). My last visit cinched it. I didn't care for the manners and food etiquette of others at the table, the food was lacking in taste, and the price was too high for the experience. To those who enjoy Bea's please continue to do so, but I've slain that dragon for good.

Nothing has changed since I started going there in 1977 this place is an absolute must try place. Southern home cooking at its best. A Buffett that comes to you. Family style seating so if you go there with just a couple of people you will likely set with strangers, but finish with friends.

This place is one of a kind and the best chicken ever. The round lazy Susan tables filled with great all you can eat home cooked food is amazing. I have been eating here since childhood, but anyone visiting or driving thru the Chattanooga area needs to make a point to try this place. The service is always the best...friendly with a smile. They are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Took my family to Bea's since we read great reviews about it and were completely disappointed, every member of my family. The food was bland and cold...even the chicken. The seating, "community round table", was awkard at best. It was an overall negative dining experience.

I have eaten here a couple of times. The food is good, but I did not find it as good as a lot of the reviews suggest. To me all of the fried food tastes the same as if they have all been cooked in the same fryer and take on the same flavor. The family style food service is worth going for at least once.

I started this review in June, and never got around to finishing it. If you find yourself in Chattanooga, Bea's is a MUST. The tables are round and you will be seated with others if your party is smaller than 8. The food is piled up on the lazy susan in the center of the table, so you can eat as much as you want of whatever you want, and they just keep it coming. Go hungry! You won't leave that way!

This is a local gem! Family style eating, home-style southern cooking...some of the best fried chicken I've ever had! Take 8 people with you or be prepared to eat at a table with others, and if you go on Sunday be prepared to wait. I promise you the wait is worth it!

Everyone in Atlanta told us we just had to eat at Bea's if we were headed to Chattanooga, so we took the advice and weren't disappointed. What they didn't tell us is that we'd be sitting at a table with 6 other people - which in our case turned out to be a family with 4 kids! Although a little hectic with the kids constantly turning the lazy susan, it was fun and actually hilarious at times. The food is stereotypical southern-fried, so we definitely had our cholesterol fix for the month. The signature chicken is scrumptious, but my husband loved the veggies more than I did. My first time for pickled beets, and I was surprised to find I kinda dig 'em (haha, no pun intended). The peach cobbler was maybe the best part of the meal, so save room!

This is the place that launched my love of Southern food a couple years ago. I could barely understand the guy on the phone when I called for directions but thank GOD we found this place on one of my first visits to Tennessee. Fluorescent lighting in a low-ceilinged restaurant filled with giant round tables with giant lazy susans in the middle. Bea's was like no place I had ever seen. Then the perfectly kind server who's missing a few teeth starts filling up the table with trays of warm fried chicken, rolls, mac and cheese, cole slaw, cobblers, pitchers of tea... It's so fun and it's so awesome. All you can eat, for about $12 when I was there. If you're in the area you MUST visit. Great food and a good time. I'm only giving 4 stars since I've only been once, not fair to 5-star it just yet. When, oh, when can I return to Chattanooga?

You haven't had friend chicken or peach "cobbla" til you've been to Bea's. I'm pretty sure it's just over $10 a person, now, so that pushes it over the "cheap" range. Regardless, if you're visiting, you just have to try it. Good 'ol home cookin' that's been done right ever since I can remember. If you're a group of 4 or less, you'll probably be sitting with a stranger or three around the lazy-susan. Oh, and that fried chicken is incredible. Watch your hands, 'cause I'm givin' the wheel a spin. You gon' eat yo cone-bread? Hell yeah I'm gon' eat my cone-bread! Yeah, the fried chicken is THAT good.

AMAZING food all the way around, but you cant beat their fried chicken, BBQ, Yeast rolls and soupy potatoes. They are delicious and you wont be able to stop with one helping. They bring the food out family style and keep it coming for as long as you can eat. Then they top it off with a piping hot cobbler or banana pudding (depending on their menu that day/night). They are closed on Monday and Tuesdays but usually open the other days except certain times of the year. Just call to find out their hours. A MUST go to place.

I've been going to bea's since I was in utero. This is no neo soul food you'll find down the road in Atlanta. This is the equivalent of your grandma's Sunday dinner and they've been doing it for longer than most of us have been living. Other than a short two year stopover before moving to japan, I haven't lived in Chattanooga in 18 years. But every time I come home I make a trip to bea's. Their fresh rolls, potatoes, pulled pork and hot chow chow...nothing better. It should be a historical landmark in new Chattanooga.

I've been coming to Bea's since I was little. The best fried chicken ever and peach cobbler with extra crust in it!! Yum! Locals get it. Out-of-towners usually don't. Just relax and enjoy! :)

It's the atmosphere and the experience that makes Bea's viable. Standard home-style fare, but lots of it. A local legend so get there early as the locals will quickly fill it. Also be sure to check their hours of operation. Good for a group as you're seated around a gigantic lazy-Susan of unending comfort food, most notably their fried chicken.

This tops the endless buffet at Shoney's. Glorious fried chicken and its smothered friends delivered to you by a little Southern woman. You don't have to get up! Ever! You don't even have to reach for that extra helping of fried okra - just flick your finger on the lazy susan and it spins towards you. God I love the South. Like RaShonda J, I really like the concept - eating family-style with strangers but honestly, I wasn't a big fan of the food. The fried chicken was great (that alone may get me to come back), I liked the chicken & dumplings, but the rest was just so-so. The cornbread was dry, potatoes in white gravy where bland, and the pie left me wondering if there was real fruit in it, or just sugary blobs of...well, anything. The ceiling is really low - I felt like I was on the 7-1/2 floor (reference to Being John Malkovich). The spit shields are above spitting level, which triggered wonderment when this place was last visited by a health inspector, and lingered when I saw a napkin stuffed into the ceiling vents. The people we did sit with were very nice, and didn't seem to realize that Bea's had become a tourist attraction. But don't knock it til you try it. It deserves a visit. So lace up your Pro-Wings cuz it'll be like going back in time.

I loved the concept and really wanted to love this quaint restaurant but they failed to deliver. Loads of food is brought to you and served on a lazy susan for you to eat until you drop...the lazy man's buffet! What's not to love? We were served fried chicken, fried fish and pulled pork along with whole potatoes in a tasteless gravy, generic mac and cheese, pinto beans and dinner rolls. All of the food was less than luke warm. Toward the end of the meal cole slaw was added to the table along with the desserts (overly sweetened strawberry cobbler and crunchy banana pudding). I've never had banana pudding with cruncy Nilla wafers before but it didn't create a good texture for me. Overall I was not impressed with the food or service.

Excellent home cooking (best fried chicken you'll find) at a historic Chattanooga restarant. There are no menus; you get the same staple of 8 dishes plus a cobbler (peach is the best) and a drink for $10 per person, served at tables with a huge lazy Susan. Its all you can eat and it is GOOD! Old part of town. Nothing fancy about the restaurant. But they do what they do very well! Don't miss it.

I'm one of those people who don't like to dine with other people I don't know, I think it's gross to share food but... I like this place because of the food. It's super country not classy at all. They have very homey food. You sit down and out comes the food, lots of it and lots of variety. The fried chicken is very good, hot and fresh. bbq pork, veggies ,potatoes, beans, rolls, cobblers washed down with sweet tea, yummy! All for about $10 bucks. I was happy when we went cuz we got there before the crowd and got a table to ourselves for the majority of the meal.

Actually, I've give it a 3.5. Don't come for the ambiance, but there is plenty of good country food. You are assigned a table with up to 8 people so if you don't bring a party of 8, you'll be sitting with strangers. As soon as you sit down, the food gets put down country buffet style on a lazy susan. There isn't a formal menu-but we got pork ribs, pulled pork, fried chicken, collard greens, pinto beans, potatoes, rolls and cornbread muffins, and peach cobbler. The food keeps coming and doesn't stay low for long. The service is friendly and it's $10/person and that include food and drink (your choice is sweet or unsweet tea or water. Or you can buy a soda from one of the soft drink machines. It kinda looks like a shady part of town. Dress down, it's very casual. Love the fried chicken and pinto beans. Did care for the pulled pork and the collards were over salted.

Bea's was excellent. The servers were attentive to our table and always made sure our family style plates were always full. The fried chicken was the best I have had in a long time. As a life long southerner, you remember how fried chicken is supposed to taste, which is getting more and more rare in this day and time...it tasted like it did "back in the day".

this place is the bomb! expect to leave several pounds heavier as you'll want to fill up on all the good southern cookin. this is a guilty pleasure for me to eat food this fatty and rich, but it's a must do if visiting tennessee. you'll understand why a lot of the people are bigger down south!! ;)

This place is so unique, its pretty darn fabulous. You sit around a circular table with 6-8 people, and all the food is served family-style off the revolving platform in the middle of the table! We had Fried Chicken, Lima Beans, Pinot beans, creamer potatoes, Barbecue pork with yeast rolls, and Peach Cobbler. I'm sure there is more I am forgetting! But, its such a local, southern, hole in the wall kind of place. I just loved it!
