You have to love this place, it is like getting into a time machine and going back to a Chinese restaurant 60 years ago. The menu has American food as well as American Chinese food (Chop Suey and Chow Mein invented in California). On the wall are cards and pictures from seemingly everyone who has ever eaten there, celebrities and regular folk. My fellow critics are correct, the eggrolls are delicious, crispy and filled with well seasoned cabbage and chicken. There are 3 lunch specials, I don't recall a restaurant at home with fewer than 15. I don't like sweet and sour so I selected the Chop Suey, it was exactly as it should be, crispy vegetables, mild seasoning with pork fried rice that was about the best I've ever had. The wonton soup had more crisp vegetables and obviously homemade wontons, with little broth, more like a stew. The prices are all over the place, $18.50 for beef broccoli? More than it would ever fetch in Washington, D.C. That being said, the broccoli is handled so gently here, I can't wait to try it. Other dishes are priced equivalently or cheaper than metro areas, there is no rhymne or reason. Obviously a mom and pop operation, pop is the host, mom is the cook, the waiter keeps the tea coming, is friendly, makes sure you have what you need and checks back frequently, no complaints on the service. I would bet mom knows how to make real Chinese food, I might even ask for some when I go back for dinner tomorrow. Usually Chinese restaurants in small towns have storefronts with pictures of the 15 most popular lunch specials. Not this restaurant, it is a throwback like a Dr. Pepper made with sugar. Check it out.
The very best egg rolls you will ever eat. I have been eating here for 25 years now and they are located in a really old building in the oldest part of town that is really run down, and nasty looking where most people wouldn't like to eat at. You just look past all that as well and Kent the owner too. The food is awesome. Tips are included in your bill already. But I tip the waiter personally -The waiter Jermaine aka Punkin is a good hard worker I went to school with him. Must try: egg rolls, fried won-ton, or just get the chefs appetizer platter for two, combination fried rice , pepper steak, sweet n sour chicken. They are a little pricey but well worth it most of the time.
Omg. Food sucked. Better off just going to Pandas or some other half ass "Chinese" restaurant!! Stupid waitress... Ordered egg rolls because we heard they were supposed to be amazing. She asked, "How do you want it?" I don't know. Cooked? On a plate? This place is so fucking crooked. Our meal came out to about $60 including tax. Our bill was $72!! How the fuck?! Crooked! So don't use a credit card because they will add their credit card machine use charge to YOUR bill!! And they don't tell you. Its just computed it in. Don't tip. Its also added in. But they don't tell you that either.
