I'm giving 2 stars for the dessert selections on the buffet. The desserts were great and home-made and delicious. The buffet was basically an American buffet with a few trays of Mexican stuff thrown in. Rice, beans, pre-rolled tacos with cheese sauce on top, and not-so-great fajita meat in a steam table. Ribs are of the "boiled and covered in sauce at the last minute" variety, and the rest of the buffet is fried chicken, wings, tenders, rolls, etc. They do bread their own chicken and tenders, but it's so over-cooked that it defeats the purpose. Unlike my kids/wife, I ordered off the menu. I figure a good Speedy Gonzalez is the best way to determine if a mexican restaurant is up to snuff. The ground beef was average. The shredded chicken at least had some flavor (cumin, mainly), and they use actual shredded cheese on stuff. The enchiladas were put together seconds before coming to the table, just a corn tortilla with meat rolled inside, a splash of generic red sauce and a sprinkle of cheese on top. It didn't have any depth of flavor or anything that you associate with good enchilada. It was a taco with sauce on. I'm from Nashville, which may or may not be a great place for authentic Mexican food, depending on where you choose to eat, but other than the excellent Mexican deserts (cinnamon flan, peach cobbler and banana pudding), this was on par with the typical El Cheapo Mexican restaurants that dot most small cities and towns. Service was perfectly fine, and the price was nice. Kids under 4 eat free. My son loves tacos and guacamole (the more authentic, the better!), but he didn't really like anything at El Olmeca except for the beans. We needed lunch, and El Olmeca provided lunch. The two glowing reviews on Yelp are over-stating the case, to put it mildly, but it's probably the best hispanic food in Ardmore, so maybe it's just a scarcity issue.
Best Mexican in Ardmore. Good food, fast service and good prices. And excellent salsa! They have outdoor dining on the front porch.
Excellent mexican food! They also offer a lunch buffett Mon-Fri, 11am-1pm (I think). It is full of just about anything including some american favorites such as bbq ribs and for a very reasonable price. They also have the buffett on Sun. from 11-2. We eat here often, good food, good price, good service...you just can't beat it!

K-May Donuts

Reviews:
I prefer independent shops with donuts made right there, rather than the chain donuts. Sure, Dunkin are uniform as you go place to place, but a locally made donut is charming. And K-May is good. I really enjoyed their apple fritters, and their donuts are nice, too. I think it's great, and it may be the best thing about Ardmore. Nice work.
If you're looking for a speedy donut, keep driving. If you want a delicious snack and aren't in a rush, this is the place for you. Wonderful confections fill the racks, and the vivacious owner is quick to offer suggestions. Savory breakfast sandwiches and sweet desserts may be purchased individually or by the dozen. This was a welcome stop on a Nashville to Huntsville day trip. Bavarian cream and apple fritters recommended!
They offer a good variety of donuts and breads and they are delicious! My Mom is a huge fan of Krispy Kreme donuts and I think she was a little apprehensive about trying something else, but after one bite she fell in love! If you're in the area and have a sweet tooth go check them out, you won't be disappointed!

Fried Tomato Buffet

Reviews:
We almost didn't stop based on the one review but I love fried green tomatoes so I had to give it a try. I loved the variety of country style veggies and the fried chicken was seasoned well. The fried green tomatoes were tasty but I prefer cornmeal based exterior versus their flour batter exterior. The salad bar was quite a poor site. The ham tasted like off brand spam and the cubed hard boiled eggs were frozen with some ice crystals on them. The salad I salvaged had iceberg lettuce, shredded cheese, imitation bacon bits, white onion and ranch. It felt like I was at a great aunts house. Not everything to my liking but overall delicious.
First visit, lunch on Friday 3/14/14. Very good fried catfish, and the fried green tomatoes were just excellent. Buffet has plenty of variety- fried chicken, roasted chicken, a chicken pot pie with crust on top, mashed potatos, gravy, corn bread dressing, green beans, Mac and cheese, niblet corn, cooked cabbage, a few other veggies I'm not recalling, rolls and cornbread, and a fairly extensive salad bar. Also strawberry cake and banana pudding. All this and a drink were $7.50 including tax. Great value. Yes, the waitress has a good set of lungs, but she and the others were working hard and not letting any tea glasses approach even half-empty status. Only complaint-I needed a bigger plate to hold all the good food. Well that, and wishing this place were closer to Birmingham. Will definitely visit again.
This place isn't to bad it's some greasy buffet food. Sometimes that just hits the spot. Everyone that comes in to the restaurant is welcomed and treated well. Service is really good. I will be returning soon. I enjoyed my experience the fried tomatoes were really good.

Driving by Ardmore, I stopped to get a "lunch box" here. They have a drive-thru, which is why I bumped them up an extra star! Very cool. $6.94 got me a pulled turkey sammich (with pickles and slaw inside), a side of beans, a side of potato salad, and a drink. I ate it. ALL. I will definitely come here again when passing through!
The pulled pork was delicious, flavorful on its own and nice and juicy. I didn't love the vinegar based BBQ sauce though. Reasonable prices. For $14 we got two half-pint sides and a pound of pulled pork, more than enough for our family of three.
Dried out meat, little sauce, no restrooms and very little seating. Only positive was the price.
