Bad service with even worse food. It took several minutes to be seated mid day while the place was maybe at 1/4 capacity. Two other parties walked out before being seated and I wish we had as well. Staff was polite enough, so nothing personal, but the experience continued to be just as slow. And the food.....yuck. I've had better food in hospital cafeterias. Don't wast your time and money.

Great place to grab a drink after sightseeing and driving across SD. The bartender Sam is awesome. Thursday night is ladies night too!

Decent by my standards, especially for a tourist spot. The lunch buffet seemed popular, but we ordered off the menu instead. Our waitress was very kind and accommodating, but the food is nothing unique or crave-worthy. It's simply a diner in Wall Drug.

The name intrigued us as we thought there would be good vegetarian options, but we were sadly mistaken. First of all, this place was swarming with flies. There is a buffet table with uncovered pizza, and we shuddered to think how many times flies had landed on the food. Secondly, I ordered a chipotle chicken salad and it was interesting to say the least. The lettuce was a little wilted and instead of tortilla chips, there were pita chips. The chicken had this interesting grill mark, but it looked so fake that I was afraid to eat it. Unfortunately, the waiter overheard my remarks about the chicken and he outright told me that the chicken came to them frozen and pre-made. Even the waiter's humor and honesty can't up this restaurant to two stars. I highly recommend not to even set foot in this place.

IMO this restaurant does not deserve any stars let alone one. We were seated and the waitress took our drink order, Southern Comfort Manhattan, on the rocks with a little cherry juice and s soda with a lime. She returned saying that they have no limes and no cherry juice, she asked, "Would cranberry juice be okay?" We said "no just the Manhattan would be okay" and we ordered. Fajitas for me and the buffet for my wife. Fifteen minutes later, we had no silverware, napkins OR the drinks. So that my wife could start with her buffet salad I got up and "borrowed" silverware, placemat and napkins from another set table. Asked another server where was our bar order she told our server to deliver them. My wife got her salad, which was good. However, the main course was not. The fried chicken was fried in old oil, and the vegetable s were old and soggy. My wife returned with another different serving and I was still waiting for fajitas! Finally out of hunger I decided to asked to speak to the manager. Our waitress left but returned to our table with the words that he was working in the bar and "to give us some money off the bill!" How rude and unprofessional was that reply? She brought the tab back discounted to $10.00. Would NEVER go there again. By the way...they were not very busy...that should have been a sign!

I went through the reviews before posting my own review, it got me thinking, why are they rated so badly? I think I know why....but first my own take on this joint. The pros... + all you can eat buffet and soup and salad bar for kids 12 and under is $5.99 + when we visited the buffet had several varieties of house made pizza (average), fried chicken (really good), Mac and cheese (kids will love it) pasta with marinara (food) garlic bread (carbs) and corn on the cob (ok) + our server was a very nice young man with a braided goatee and I loved him, he was doing the best with what he has to work with, you know what I am saying? + our lovely server was not at all annoyed when we just ordered water, he actually thanked us for ordering water, dude was crazy busy I think + the crap shack wall drug cafe across the street is so disgustingly expensive and insane that I would give my money to a person on a street corner for mayo sandwich instead! - $13 for an all you can eat buffet of soup, salad, and limited fast food, this isn't gourmet dining, adjust yourself before you wreck yourself, HEY, the ranch dressing was pretty ok! The cons..... - expensive cheap food, ya know, but this is a tourist trap, so get over it, pack a cooler next time if that bothers you! - it's too expensive for what you get, but compared to other places, it is what it is, and if you want to, you get your monies worth!

Noticed all the bad reviews for service. Mike was our server today. He was excellent. Looks like they found some good help finally. My buffalo burger was average but washing it down some Buffalo Sweat beer really hit the spot. It is seriously great beer. My wife really liked her Prairie Fire Burger.

Not a good experience at all. I went in to have a beer and get some food. Bar food was fine with me. I had driven over 900 miles that day and just wanted to relax, grab a bite and have a drink. I grabbed a bar stool and waited for the bartender to take my drink order, and waited, and waited and waited. Finally as he passed in front of me I raised my hand and asked what does a fellow have to do to get a drink in here. He said he did not see me setting there even though he had passed in front of me several times but kept stopping at the end of the bar to talk to what appeared to be friends. I ordered a Bison Burger and a beer. When the burger came out you could tell it was a pre-formed frozen paddy. Did not taste like Bison at all and was dry. Nasty. Thee bartender was a space cadet. At one point dropped a plastic glass that bounced across the floor so he turned around and grabbed another and threw it on the floor. How immature. My recommendation - find another place to eat

Our experience started out ok, got our waters and she took our order. Sadly we never actually got to try the food because we left after waiting 35 minutes for our drinks while we watched the three tables around us that came in AFTER us get their drink AND food orders. Of course she said ours was next as our server saw us getting up to leave. She claimed they had just gotten slammed; four tables and a lot of help walking around doing nothing is not my problem. Would not recommend unless you are willing to wait.

  • Jennifer G.

Horrible experience here. Were seated fairly quickly. Placed our orders and received drinks. Then waited 25 minutes while watching them fill the lunch buffet at 10 am. We were one of three tables in the restaurant. When my husband inquired about our breakfast, the server told us it would be another 8 minutes. Told the server forget it and the server quickly ran to the kitchen to tell them not to make it. Clearly, they had not started our order because they were more concerned with stocking the lunch buffet than waiting on their current customers. The other table that had been waiting 30 minutes walked out as well.

horrible. We orderef the $6 KIDS MAC-NCHEESE for our daughter who loved it!! What was delivered was reheated, day old, solidified generic kraft mac-n-cheese. The adult buffet was disgusting, complete with hours old, dry, generic frozen pizza, a salad bar that hadn't been touched or managed for hours, and over fried chicken for $12, and two cheese quesadillas. The service was fine, but how anyone could eat here let alone serve this garbage is beyond me. Avoid this place like, no not like, Is the plague.

Wow! I had no idea food could be so bad. Overpriced and horrible. Worst meal in years.

I have lived in Northern Nevada for about 18 months, and my culinary expectations have downshifted significantly. I was discussing food with a friend recently, and I allowed that a small, fake Mexican place in South Dakota remains the worst food-serving establishment I have ever visited. That includes all fast-food chains, convenience stores and even remote branches of Applebee's. (!!!) Think I am backing a competing Wall restaurant when I write this? I couldn't name one three years on. Vacationers are due for amazing sights when headed either west past Rapid City or east toward the gorgeous Badlands. Don't eat here. I am being as kind as I can when I say this. A separate thing about south Dakota that is not place's or the state's fault: get coffee at your hotel. Those every-town kiosks don't crop up until mid- to west Montana.

Do NOT bother with this place...We walked in, they were not real busy and we were seated. We got our beverages right away, placed our order and waited and waited and waited...Just kept getting excuses about how they got behind because of a large table on the other side...We believe it was because they were too busy cooking items for the buffet. After 40 mins and more excuses we walked out, as did another family that was there before us. We met up with the group of people at the large table outside and they said they had waited at least 40 mins for food and that when they got it, it was wrong. There were ALOT of flies in the restaurant and all over the food on the buffet table (that also did not have a sneeze guard)...Disgusting bathrooms as well...I wish I didn't even have to give it the 1 star.

Food was good but service was terrible. Had to wait a really long time for drinks and food...oh and the check. At one point I think we were forgotten about. Pick another place.

  • Jason M.

Like others, I wish I had read the reviews before venturing into this place. Simply put, the food was inedible. The biscuits and gravy had an overwhelming chemical taste, the bacon was raw even after we sent it back twice, and the over easy eggs were greasy and scrambled. The spaghetti was cold with watery, canned red sauce and the burrito plate caused nausea after just a mouthful or two. What a waste of time and money. Stay away. Stay far, far away.

I'm going to do the Cactus Cafe a favor and not go into too much detail. Something weird goes on here though. If I were to guess I'd say it's a front for a shadow immigration underground railroad where people are forced by nefarious types to work off exorbitant debts to gain entry into this country. In fact the entirety of Wall Drug road or avenue or whatever smacks of employees who hate their plight but are powerless to rebel against their evil South Dakotan overlords. Our waiter was nice but as he said, he was just "put here" until he "goes back" in a few days. Poor guy. The food is unremarkable, and nothing we had is probably going to stay down for long. The flies seemed to like it though as did some of the extreme low-expectation crowd that wandered in while we were there. All in all, like Wall, it was kind of a bust.

  • Justyna D.

Terrible service. Right off the bat I asked for a napkin because where I was seated there was gunk smeared all over my seat. So I never got a napkin, I got one from the bathroom. Next, we didn't get any utensils until I asked for them. Next, we waited for 20 minutes for refills, and never got it. Next, the waitress never once came to us to ask how everything is going. So the only interaction we had was ordering, receiving our food, and getting out check, which we had to flag someone down for it. I do my recommend this place, to anyone, ever.

  • Tim N.

Not much to choose from in Wall. I chose this place for their Buffalo Burgers. This was to be my first, and the yelp reviews weren't terrible. A third of the menu was "unavailable", which meant no salads or Mexican dishes. The draft beer was sour, (Sam Adams), the service was poor, and the place is a dump. The burger was delicious, very nicely cooked! Frankly, if I'm ever in Wall again, I will bypass all eateries. Rapid City isn't that much further up the road!

    (1)
  • Ryan R.

It's as bad as the reviews. On our trip, Yelp was accurate every time. Unfortunately, I didn't check this place out until after we ordered, and had already been unimpressed. Skip this place and get another 5 cent coffee from Wall Drug as you search for another place to eat.

    (1)
  • Karen P.

Do not eat here. We did, out of desperation and lack of internet access, and it was bad. How bad, you ask? The place is an absolute dump-- we're talking *dirty*, like it hasn't been cleaned in decades. Everything is crooked, chipped, and/or covered in years of neglect. My chair was dirty before I even sat down. One of the servers dropped some rolled-up silverware on the floor and just put it back on the table. If you can get past all that to order food, well, you'll still be disappointed. We had a burger that was "one step up from McDonald's" and a BLT that was passable, at best. The french fries were cold. The flavored iced tea was from a syrup and hadn't been stirred at all. The best part was that when we were waiting for our food (which somehow took 45 minutes to prepare... Wonder how many times it fell on the floor), a big group of hardcore bikers came in to have lunch. They looked around, sneered, and left. I suggest you do the same.

  • Thomas D.

Would probably not recommend. Buffet food was lukewarm at best. Friendly people, but not the best service in the world. One employee, who I assume was a bartender, must have been looking for bigger tips, as she kept rearranging her breasts in sight of our daughters. It was Sturgis after all.

Foremost stay away from this establishment.First of all the service was horrible. We walked in and decided to order the lunch buffet. The server didn't really acknowledge us nor did she explain what the buffet included. We ate as much of the overcooked cold fried chicken as we could as we were quite hungry. My grandson a big chicken lover opted for the spaghetti-that's how bad the chicken looked. It was just a little past noon and we had to ask for more chicken which was more over cooked. Upon leaving we noticed on the other side of the diner was a salad bar which we were never told about and could not see from our table. Our grandson was sick with a stomach ache the whole next day. What a total waste of money.

  • Amy E.

Yuck... Service was a little above poor, utensils were very unclean--dried food bits on all 3 sets we were given, place is a dump. Some food was ok but some tasted very old, like the Texas Toast. Definitely won't eat here again. Next time we will drive the extra half hour to Rapid City and eat there!

It was better than nothing, but there's nothing much better in this part of the country. Fairly reasonably priced, with excellent service.

The short of it, just avoid Wall, South Dakota. We were done with touring a bit of the Badlands and were getting hungry, it was growing late, and Wall is the closest town. This place seemed like it was a typical diner dive, and that would've been just fine. But it's just not all that good. And this stuff on their menu isn't exactly difficult to cook! First, avoid the pasta. I mean, seriously, who orders pasta at a place like this anyway? It's not going to be good. So, no sympathy for folks who order pasta. It's your fault. But if you want to order something that's typical of a diner, like a burger? This place also fails on that front. The burger I had was dry and cooked to heck and back. Any steaksauce to make it moist and palatable? No, the steaksauce bottle really needed to be replaced--at the end of last tourist season. I do not think I've seen anything in a diner so caked as these condiment bottles. The staff was nice enough, even if short handed, so I don't fault them for the kitchen's problems. But as a whole, Wall is a tourist trap, and not a very good one at that. These places seem like they don't need to try to be good, because they're the only thing for dozens of miles around. That's the impression I got from this place, at least.

Enough said by others, but just to add a bit of humor, or disgust, I had a cock roach fall from the ceiling into my hair. I felt something hit my head, brushed it with my hand only to have it narrowly miss my plate. It dropped to the floor and scurried under the salad bar. Imagine...roaches living over the buffet, and everywhere else no doubt. As was suggested previously, a bag of peanuts is preferable. Do have to add, however, our waitress was a gem, and worked her tail off while other employees folded napkins. Sad!

You'd think it would be impossible to screw up a corn dog. You take the corn dog from the freezer and put it in the deep fryer. Right? Wrong. How do you make a corn dog soggy? I can only suppose that they microwaved it. A corn dog. At least there were only a few flies. Enough said.

top sirloin was anything but top. gristle and fat made up half the steak. not seasoned at all. salad bar was very limited including the imitation bacon bits. home made soups... I've had better straight out of a can. baked potato was best part of my meal. at least it didn't cost me an arm and a leg. please save ur money and eat better at mcdonalds.

We had breakfast here on a 33 hour drive to Montana. My breakfast (eggs, toast and hash browns) and the coffee was pretty good. However, they did not have many options for vegetarians and they were unable to accommodate a vegetarian request made that was fairly simple. The other customers in the restaurant were questionable: 4 high school students that looked miserable and didn't talk their entire meal, and 4 loud men drinking at 7am. The menu for lunch and dinner seemed to have more options. I would recommend the place to non-vegetarians.

Another frightful experience. This place will cause a cancer-inducing coma in no time. Why do I feel like vomiting just thinking of this place? Actually, for the past 3 weeks, I have been disgusted with the food choices out here. The only time I feel half satisfied with a meal is when we cooked at home. I can't really stand meat and starting yesterday, I have converted back to being a pescetarian. I am making a commitment to strike against meat. Anyhow, the chipotle salad was boring and the dressing tasted artifical. Yuck-o. Please do yourself a favor and avoid this place. Your colon will thank you later.

The restaurant itself smells like cat litter when you first walk in. And I'm guessing the health department is just too far away to care about the sanitation here. At risk of sounding like a broken record, let's start with the "buffet". I'll be fair...the broasted chicken was pretty tasty. And there was a goulash that was alright. The garlic bread wasn't as crisp as I would prefer, but too soft is better than too hard. Fresh veggies were used on the pizza. The rest of the buffet? Well...the broccoli cheese soup was a little too chunky to try. The chicken noodle soup was bland. The pasta was pasty. The pizza crust was... I don't know honestly, just bad. And the "salad bar" was right behind where we sat and it looked like a horror movie scene. My 9 year old asked why it was full of stuff she's never seen. I couldn't answer. I didn't know what half of it was either. Three of us had buffet and we also had an order of wings and one ordered their appetizer trio as a meal. The trio had sliders and dumplings that were okay, along with a few wings. When I l asked how many wings you got for $8, the answer was 9 or 10, she wasn't sure. The wings were cooked PERFECTLY (deep fried crispy and no breading and big). There was a bizzare situation though. Sauce options were mild, hot, and bbq (well for mine, the trio wasn't offered sauce options). I ordered mild and a weird, orangey colored BBQ sauce is what I received. Yep... hot sauce mixed with BBQ sauce to create "mild". I know wings are a predominantly America food, and as the staff was Ukranian, I'm still regretting not explaining how to make mild sauce. I also only got 6 wings. The server was awesome about it though, and got us 8 new, plain wings, with a side of hot sauce, and I dressed them myself. I'm glad I tried it. I can't say I'd never go back, but, at least now I know what not to get?

ANIMAL LOVERS DO NOT EAT HERE!! After we were seated we heard a cat faintly crying and found that it was coming from the ceiling. We asked for help the response was "IT'S NOT MY CAT" from the server and there was no manager on duty!! Sick and inhumane people working there. Unbelievable cruelty, they knew it had been up there and had done nothing!!

Okay, just because you have a restaurant in a tourist trap town does NOT mean you should serve such crappy food. Today we had the lunch buffet. It was one of those times when you put food on your plate because you are starving hungry, wondering why you did and as you are eating it, praying you don't get puke-sick. The food was awful. The pizza might have been good if the crust did not taste like uncooked yeast, I couldn't bring myself to try the pasta and sauce, corn was way over-cooked; The best thing in the entire restaurant was the Broasted chicken on the buffet, if you could order just that item, you would think the place was great. The salad bar is bag 'o lettuce, the dressings were so horrid looking I could not bring myself to try any of them. I had some diced beets which actually tasted real and the macaroni salad was decent enough. But that was it. This restaurant with its terrible food and dirty interior is a definite pass.

Made the obligatory stop at Wall Drug and decided to have lunch here. What a mistake - it's all reheated food with barely a salad bar of fresh food. Only eat here if you can make it to your hotel in Rapid City before you need to go to the bathroom. Ugh.

  • J D.

The 1-star ratings of this place are too harsh -- it's solidly 2-stars. The salad bar was nice, and a positive change from the otherwise only fried foods available anywhere within a 10-mile radius. That said, it was a very small salad bar -- only lettuce, no other greens -- and it had only a dozen or so toppings. The soup was bland and clearly from a can. The other food on the bar -- to include pizza, corn on the cob and fries -- was just so awful looking I didn't touch it. As another reviewer wrote, just avoid Wall altogether. The signs leading to Wall Drug are a lot of fun, but once you are there you will only face disappointment.

  • Michele D.

Wow. The food here was terrible. I'm not even sure what to say other than that. I had a patty melt. The bread was just toasted (it should be grilled), the hamburger tasted like it was the cheapest "meat" available (lots of filler) and even the ketchup was screwed up. I'm not sure what was in the ketchup, but it was awful (beer? apple cider vinegar? dunno). Honestly, the service was excellent, but what good is good service is the food sucks? I'm begging you, fellow yelpers, do not go here if you like food that tastes good.

  • Diane S.

SO BAD!!!!! I took one bite of my breakfast burrito with "green chili" on top and spit it into my napkin. It was the most disgusting food I've ever had! My son, who was straight off of 9 months of college cafeteria food took a tiny bite of mine and proclaimed it tasted like "puke." We should have walked right back out after we walked in and the place smelled like stale fish, the hostess was surly and unkempt, and acted downright annoyed that we were there. The waitress didn't notice or comment about my uneaten meal.

The only positive things I can say about this place is that it was fast, cheap, and I didn't get sick from eating the food.

This gets two stars but only with conditions attached. 1. 3-stars for a good "Dive Tavern" 2. 3-stars for a good bloody Mary even though it was SEVEN dollars. 3. 3-stars ONLY if you do not go during tourist season because locals only work here during the off-season months. 4. I'd skip the food, unless it was just fried appetizers. This place could use a few politically correct lessons. I went there one summer, and not ONE employee there was a local. When I go somewhere, I want to see the local color, not get waited on by someone from the Ukraine or Pakistan. This is a strange phenomenon you see in certain places around the Black Hills but only during tourist season. My guess, is that some of these businesses pay these servers only one or two dollars an hour (locals can't afford to work for that low of pay), so they somehow recruit foreigners. One poster commented that he was having fun until he noticed he was paying more money for his beer than the locals. I'm not surprised, especially if this was in August. I knew better than to eat on my visit last weekend, but my friend was starving and couldn't wait, so she ordered the mashed potatoes/gravy/beef over white bread. Our palettes are totally different. I would NEVER order something like that, already knowing the potatoes are going to be instant, gravy from a packet, etc. I will say this, the portion was enormous. Frankly, you have to be a fool to eat in Wall. I mean, come on, it's like expecting a good meal in Keystone. Be patient, save your money and wait til you get to Spearfish or Rapid City to eat.

Whenever crossing South Dakota via I-90, you 'have' to stop at Wall Drug. This has pretty much become an obligatory American "experience". Once there, however, there's really not much about it; I recommend you not stay overnight. My wife and I wandered around for a bit and stopped into the Cactus Cafe & Lounge for lunch. My wife got the french dip sandwich and I got a normal cheeseburger. Really nothing to write home about (or Yelp for that matter). Burger felt more like something that I could pull out of my freezer and toss on the old Foreman Grill. Waitress wasn't too enthusiastic or attentive. Decor and feel of the place was old and dingy. All in all, it's pretty much a hole that survives from all the traffic that flows through Wall. The prices are waaay too high as well for the quality of food and service that you get. To be fair, it may have a different atmosphere and level of quality during "peak" time such as the summer. We rolled through in late October, so I'm sure their best wasn't on display. I'd give it 2 stars based on the food and decor, but took another away due to the ridiculous construction outside (which made parking impossible) and the bum outside that aggressively hit us up for money. Just seemed to round out the experience.

First and foremost, the service was excellent and everyone from host to server to the rest of the workers were extremely nice. The food was just okay, not bad, not great - but because it's at the Wall Drug the visit was more for the touristy variety then to have a great meal - those you always hope for regardless. It's more of a bar type environment, dimly lit and had the look and feel of a bar and the food was more of a bar type variety anyhow. The experience was nice, the food was okay and though I'd probably never eat there again - you can't good wrong - you got food in your stomach that tastes alright, it's not too expensive and you get local flavour of Wall South Dakota.

Had a group of 7. My sister ordered the Chimichanga - was told they were out. Makes you wonder if they came out of a box. She ordered something else then. I ordered the Prairie Fire Burger (jalapenos, pepperjack cheese, bacon, chipotle sauce) and a side salad w/ Creamy Italian dressing. First the salad came out with regular Italian dressing. I asked the waitress if this was Creamy Italian dressing; she said yes. Not sure what was going on there, but it was 100% regular Italian. Moving along. Burger came out without the jalapenos. I told the waitress. She checked in the kitchen, came back and said, "Sorry, we're out of jalapenos", and then walked away. I should've been asked if I wanted something else (either after placing my order, or after receiving it incomplete). Nope. So I ate it without the jalapenos (I gotta eat). After the meal, I politely asked for the manager. Took a few minutes to hunt him down. I told him that I ordered that burger because I wanted something different, and the jalapenos were sort of a key ingredient. He told me that he walked into the kitchen and found cans of jalapenos that he gave to the kitchen staff. Awesome. I asked him if he could take something off of my bill since I didn't get what I wanted. WooHoo - he dropped 75 cents!!! Really??? Bottom line - both the kitchen staff and servers are inept. I guess they figure since it's across the street from a tourist trap (Wall Drug) they can be mediocre since people will eat there not knowing what it's like. And by the way, the buffet was some sorry looking pizza, spaghetti, and some other things. Oh yeah, and we never got our waters refilled at the table. I really hate to give a review on just one experience, but I would highly recommend you find someplace else!

Skip this place. It was filthy when we were there and the employees have no customer service skills at all. We went to Cactus for some drinks after dinner. It's a dive bar that didn't serve us after waiting for at least ten minutes and it wasn't busy at all. I would steer clear of this place and Wall, SD. Make the trek to Rapid City if you must spend the night.

don't waste your time coming here. its overpriced for what you're getting and the food is just plain bad. i got the taco salad- which it was basically all hamburger with a few lettuce strands and hardly any shredded cheese. it also didn't come with any dressing as was advertised on the menu.

Stay away from this place....my boyfriend and I were staying in wall for the night. We decided to go to the Cactus Lounge for a few drinks since it was walking distance from our motel. We entered, sat at the bar and waited. There were three employees behind the bar. One lady brought us napkins. Then we waited and waited...while all of the locals stared at us. The bartenders walked past us several times, never asking for our order. They just socialized with the locals and looked at us. We walked out. Oh, did I mention my boyfriend is Asian? Racial Discrimination to say the least!

Tsk, Tsk... This is my first every 1 star rating ever!! I'm not very picky when it comes to eating but this place really turned me off big time. My family and I were heading home after a nice little vacation in the Black Hills when we stopped by Wall Drug for some souvenirs, food, and to just stretch our legs. After a little shopping, we decided it was time to find a place to eat. Cactus Cafe looked promising and we decided to give it a try. We walked in and took a table in the main room, that's when our waitress came over to tell us about their great buffet special. We decided to go with that because it just seemed like it would be a better option and we were pretty hungry anyway. The buffet consisted of a very small salad bar with almost nothing in it, and the other was a table with what tasted like frozen pizza, pasta, and fried chicken. Blah, blah, and BLAH!!! Everything was terrible and I quickly lost my appetite. My sister is a vegetarian and had asked the waitress for some meatless sauce for her pasta because the only one on the table was the meaty kind. She brought back a meat sauce again, much to the disgust of my sister after trying it. The staff was quick to blame each other and no one really apologized for the error. This just wasn't a really good place to eat but I guess it's true what they say, "You get what you pay for." Check it Out...if you dare! -Papa Bear

This is a basic home town cafe with ok food. The prices were a bit high but less than the goofy Wall Drug Cafeteria across the road. So we saved a few bucks and also had our own waitress. She was nice and did a good job. Nothing much to say about the food except that the green chili was good and flavorful. If you are driving through the area don't stop here to eat. Unless there is a place that you know of here worth stopping at for food, down the road an hour is Rapid City and plenty of good places. Do yourself a favor and eat a snack to get you to Rapid City.

Had the chicken fried steak and my friend had the turkey club. Average food. Wasn't bad wasn't great. Mediocre service. Awkward dining room. Filled the belly.

This place was horrible!!!! It was dark and gloomy inside. The staff was disorganized and not very helpful. My friend and I ordered Pina Colodas and they tasted horrible, like chemicals. We then order this bacon ranch chicken dish which was terrrible. It tasted as if someone had poured a gallon of ranch on the sandwich!!!! I asked for an order a fries and got an order of rice but that could of been because of the language barrier between our waitress and us. I would not recommend this place!!!!

We were hungry, it was 730 at night and dark and we unsuspectingly walked into this place. Nothing good to say about it. As we were leaving town, we passed a DQ and one of our group said we would have done better there. No one disagreed.

The ambiance of the restaurant immediately settled in our nose as the smell of the restroom permeated the place. We asked for water as we were seated, but apparently we forgot to ask for ice. Quickly we ordered nachos figuring that is hard to get wrong. We were quickly corrected with cold cheese, stale chips, and a weird blob of refried beans under the chips. The indian taco, not in their wheelhouse, may have been the worst fry bread I have ever tasted. The buffalo burger, in their wheelhouse, was passable as a burger. The fries were stale if that is possible. One star is probably more than they deserve. The one good thing was our waiter was courteous and helpful. If you are in Wall, eat anywhere but here.

The waitress was nice and the buffalo burgers and frieds were good. However, there were a lot of flies in the restaurant. The "buffet", if that is what u can call it, had frozen pizza, pasta and fried chicken only. They were spilling out onto the little cart it was on, and flies were swarming all over it. Disgusting. The salad and soup bar they bragged about was nowhere to be seen, probably because the fly swarm devoured all of it.

After seeing signs advertising pie on the way into Wall, all we wanted was flaky fruity goodness in our tummies. After buying little items we really didn't need from Wall Drug across the street, we headed into Cactus Cafe. It was dark inside and the whole energy of the place was just plain sad. Our server seated us, disappeared in the back for awhile, then came back and took our order. They were out of pie, but he said he might be able to do something. A few minutes later, he came out with a cold slice of blueberry pie. We wanted it warm, but since we hadn't specified that, we let it go. It was a fairly blah piece of pie. We ate the tiny slice pretty quickly and waited for the server to come back out from wherever he was hiding so we could go. He finally came out and we told him we needed the check. There were no prices on the dessert menu so we were a little nervous at what the pie would cost. We were right- for what we got, it was completely overpriced. All we wanted was a great, old-fashioned slice of pie, but despite advertising their pie, this place just couldn't deliver.

My burger was great (buffalo with pepper jack and jalepenos), drinks are stiff and the service was fun. Don't do the buffet, bland and dry.

THE WORST. RESTAURANT. EVER. I'm not that picky. I'll eat pretty much anything. But I wouldn't eat here again if it was the last place ever. In the world. Got a salad--all the salad was brown, the veggies were disgusting. Didn't eat anything. Jeff got a pasta. Tasted like paste was glued to the plate. Looked like it was pasted, too. The veggies (who puts veggies like peas in alfredo?) were the worst. Jeff mostly eats anything. He did not eat this. Worst. Thing. In. The world.

The menu here is a mixture of American sandwiches and steaks and Mexican. My wife started with the chicken noodle soup it was homemade and the noodles were the biggest we have seen. The have a full buffet but my wife decided to order off the menu. Now as a visitor to the area and having experienced the worst salsa at Taco Johns, my wife and I decided to avoid anything Mexican while in South Dakota. I think this is why this place gets such bad reviews, if you come here just stick to what they know how to do, anything buffalo, steaks, and sandwiches. We ordered fried Chicken gizzards and they were seasoned to perfection. I ordered the BBQ buffalo sandwich the meat was tender and good but the BBQ was lacking. My wife ordered the buffalo burger which was ok, not great. They have lots of drinks and there priced ok. All in all if you can wait to drive to Rapid City you probably should but if you can not just stick with the basics when coming to this place!!

I should have read the reviews before going to this restaurant. Food in general was mediocre but the chopped sirloin steak was decent. I did not dine at this place therefore i can not comment on the dine-in experience at this place. But, as far as dine in is concerned, i will take the other three reviews for it. I felt really bad for the guy who delivered the stuff to my hotel room. He was very nice. He was wearing torn t-shirt and i felt really sorry for him. Gave him a good tip. I give at least a credit to the owner of this place for giving employment opportunity for those less fortunate. With all this review i hope that they will improve their quality going forward. I would like to give a three because of the superb steak they delivered and the soup was good too. Three stars applicable to delivery from this place and not dine-in.

The worst food in the worst cafeteria in grade school was still better than this place. I was not aware pasta could be prepared so poorly. Adding vegetables to the already poor cream sauce made me want to hurl. We didn't stay long, and I debated not paying for the food. The waitress was very confused when we did NOT want to wrap our partially eaten meals up and asked for the check immediately afterwards. Writing this review is giving me dry heaves, don't go there. Please.

Buffalo roast was great! Walleye was good. Large portions with both. Cafe is directly across street from Wall Drugs. Didn't see any other Wall eating places that served something other than sandwiches. Would eat at Cactus Cafe again.

Avoid this place at all cost unless you feel an urge to repay your sins from a previous live. The place not only feel unclean, the servers look even worse. The breakfast we ordered came with buffalo sausage that were dry and tasteless. It was probably made from buffalo hide aged in lye. For the price you pay for lousy food, service without a smile and a restroom that makes rodents feel comfortable, you're better off crossing the street to Wall Drug for twice the value. Our regret was not reading the reviews before going there.

We stopped here on our return trip from Sturgis to Houston. The waitress was wonderful and helpful. The food was awesome!! I ordered the chopped buffalo steak and my boyfriend got the Cactus Special House Steak. Both were excellent! Prices were reasonable. Will definitely stop here again!

If I could give 0 starts I would. This has got to be the worst place that was ever created on earth!!! Worst service terrible food that took forever and a year to come out. To top it off when the food finally came out it was burned! Come on people don't make me wait forever and have burnt ass food! Ugh you guys seriously ruined my day! Thank god there's a place called badlands down the way that has better service, way better food and overall just a better place.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
