Best prime rib that I have ever had in my life. I'm from Chicago and have been here twice on this trip. Cut it with a fork. Everyone here is very nice too! You won't be disappointed. Nice view of the river. But come for the steaks!

After a long day of driving (from Rockford, IL), Cattleman's was a very welcome oasis. I had the 16oz. Sirloin and it was cooked to a perfect medium rare, and seasoned to perfection. Full bar so I had a Makers Mark on the rocks. House salad was dressed lettuce and you could add what you want (tomatoes, carrots, cheese, cucumbers). Italian dressing was delicious. My baked potato (and my wife's) were a little undercooked. Our waitress was very pleasant, responsive and chatty, we liked her a lot! Atmosphere was very relaxed and welcoming, highly recommended!!

Fly in soda. Slow service. Wrong order. Over done. Sorry I don't complain, but not a good first experience. If this is a real SD steakhouse, no thanks SD.

My 10 oz. sirloin was properly cooked but quite salty and seasoned. I'd prefer it straight - no extra salt or seasonings. Baked potato was nicely prepared. The steamed green beans were over-cooked. The salad was iceberg lettuce, but they did supply four containers of toppings - diced onion, and shredded cheese, carrots, and cabbage. Our server was initially friendly but after realizing that we weren't going to be buying drinks and ordered relativley cheap meals, her interest seemed to wane. We'd try another Pierre steak place before returning.

Food was ok, had the prime rib. Not terrible but not great. Service was excellent and friendly, but getting to the restaurant is not that great as it is several miles from town.

This place is awesome. Just what you'd think a steak house in South Dakota would be. I had the prime rib which was amazing. Prices are great as is the service. If you use google maps app the restaurant is about 3/4 of mile further the app says it is. It was telling I had arrived but I still needed to drive a ways further.

Great place for people who really like their beef. Get early for a window seat overlooking the water.

We waited for an hour on a busy Friday night. The food was worth the wait and the bar helped to pass the time. All food we had was great. My steak was a little in the cold side and a medium rare meat was more red than pink, but it tasted fantastic. The one big negative is that there is absolutely nothing for a vegetarian on the menu. Even the sides by themselves will not satisfy anyone.

As good a place to eat beef as anywhere in central SD. We have never had a bad meal @ Cattlemen's!

Been here 3 times. Good steak and prime rib. Last time I was there was a very roust crowd made it unpleasant. Otherwise based on food it was awesome!

I was on a cross country road trip with my boyfriend, and as we neared the eastern half of the country we realized that we had not taken the time to get a great steak! Instead of keeping with our planned route, we ventured up to Pierre in hopes of finding just that. We found the Cattleman's Club on yelp and decided that was our destination. Everything we had was amazing and just what we were looking for. I don't remember the last time I had such a great steak. The boyfriend got an enormous cut of steak, and my smaller portion was excellent. This was definitely one of the highlights of our road trip! If you ever happen to be in the area, give this place a try!

Have to admire a steak house that has deep fried steak as an appetizer. I was expecting more of a state fair fried Twinkies sort of thing, but instead just got the normal sirloin, cut into chunks, and deep fried in oil instead of broiled on a fire. Same seasonings, and I could not taste the difference between it and my entree. Steaks are excellent, cooked perfectly, and a good cut. The wait staff was moving constantly. The sheer number of customers, though, meant that on the Wednesday night we went a total of 2 hours was spent -- about a 45 minutes waiting to be seated, another half hour waiting between the salad and the main course. Worth the wait on our visit, but you do need to plan for sufficient time to enjoy the meal. The indoor waiting (or the bar waiting) to be seated would be fun all year. I don't know who would wait outside in the winter, but on this balmy summer evening the view of the (flooded) river was spectacular and keep us entertained for most of the wait. If I ever travel through that area again I'll go back.

Best Prime Rib EVER! I've been going to Pierre once every 8 weeks for work and I have to have Prime Rib at Cattleman's Club every time I visit Pierre. The place is always busy but I never have to wait more than 10-15 minutes to get a table, for one!

  • Dani B.

It can be pretty hard to hear in this place, but you won't care because you'll be too busy enjoying the incredible steak. The steak is just about as good as anything you'll ever eat. I recommend to get it with the sweet potato as well and slather some butter and brown sugar on it (you won't even want dessert it's so delicious). The sawdust floor is pretty fun and they have tables with holes cut out for fire which I haven't been able to take advantage of yet (but look forward to in the future!). Also, a very pretty view!

Steak. Lot's of Steak. Delicious, tender, expertly cooked slabs of beef that make your mouth water. It was crowded enough to have a fun atmosphere, but not so busy that we ever felt ignored. The food did take quite a while to come out, but starting out with some deep fried green beans made the wait quite tolerable. And then there's the fact that once the food did come out, it was exceptional. My colleagues had the prime rib. I had a 16 ounce sirloin for $18. It came with soup or salad, my choice of potato and texas toast. Really a great deal. If you're a vegetarian, you really have no business coming here, but if you like steak you shouldn't go anywhere else.

Amazing food and great prices! We were stopping through on a cross-country road trip and this was worth the two-hour detour. Two of us shared the porterhouse and the sides it came with- sensational meat at low cost. Loved the vibe-sawdust on the floor and real authentic feel. Wish we could go back soon!

This place is vintage to the bone. Although South Dakota was my place of childhood angst, I still can't deny the roots that this place holds. It's a milestone in cowboy/country dining. Complete with sawdust on the floors and menu's that look like they came straight out of a covered wagon, The Cattleman's club has it all. This place, by far, has the best steaks I've ever had. A perfect recipe, every time. Definitely worth checking out.

Located outside of town in Pierre, SD, The Cattleman's Club serves up great food in a fun atmosphere. The Club was packed when we arrived on a Thursday evening during pheasant season. There was a mix of ranchers and hunters, with a couple families thrown in. The last table in the house was open, and we were seated immediately and our server, despite the crowds was there to help us almost instantly. They have a full bar, and a number of mixed drinks are available, along with 4 or 5 beers on tap. Wine prices are reasonable by the glass and bottle, with bottles starting around $15. The menu is mostly steak, and they do it right. The seasoning on the meat was perfect, best out of the three steakhouses I've been to in and around Pierre. The prices are very reasonable on all of their steaks. They serve a dinner salad with a tray which has a tub of onions, green pepper, cheese, and carrots so you can have as much or as little of the condiments as you like. The meat was cooked exactly as ordered, and most of steaks come with your choice of potato and Texas Toast. Our glasses were never empty, and we were given just the right amount of attention. After dinner, they served up a great Irish Coffee. Make the trip!

Wow ... I went here because I person at the hotel said is was good. This was the best steak I have ever had in my life ... hands down ... great service, perfectly cooked and seasoned steak. Sawdust on the floor, casual and excellent in every way. This is a MUST EAT place if you are ever in Pierre, SD

Amazing amazing steak...they have steak chicken and shrimp, don't look for anything else. A bit out of town but worth the drive! Great service as well!

Best prime rib in the state. Saw dust floor adds to the atmosphere and a great view of the river. Get there early as it is almost always full especially on friday and Saturday night.

Steaks are always good. Wouldn't say the best ever but always worth the stop. Got the wood chip on the floor, wood walls, western theme going for it. Service and drinks are good.

  • Brenda D.

Loved it!! They gave me exactly what I ordered! I had the 8oz sirloin steak (medium but I think maybe medium rare would have been better). Green beans were fresh and NOT drenched in butter... Salad allowed me to select what I wanted on it and how much. Service was good and sawdust floor was a nice touch. I would love to come here every time I am in Pierre on business ... As a matter if fact, all fellow vendors who dined with me tonight has been to Cattlemans the precious night for dinner - I think that tells you just how good it is - and what a good variety ... GO!!

  • Kara G.

The steak was great but the service was slow and the atmosphere left us with a bit odd (there were bunch of flies to go along with the sawdust on the floor, nice view but no place to sit outside). Despite the atmosphere we would not hesitate to eat there again.

I truly believe what makes a restaurant a GREAT restaurant is when you love every part of your meal, from appetizer to salad to entree to dessert. Cattleman's is one of these places. If you aren't a meat lover, this really isn't the place for you as they have a very simple menu consisting mostly of Steaks, Prime Rib and Burgers. All three of which are fantastic!
