We stopped in Mitchell, SD to visit the corn palace. A local resident recommended Corona Village. We are very pleased with our experience. This was a family friendly restaurant that was clean and welcoming. The portions are quite large. A great deal for the price. My husband and I shared a platter which included carne asada and scallops and still had leftovers. Our server provided warm tortillas even though they weren't included on the menu. Everything was tasty and at the perfect temperature. My children had a taco kids meal and a bean burrito meal. They also enjoyed their meal and had MORE THAN ENOUGH to eat. Our server was young and did his best to meet our needs. My only complaint was not having enough napkins. Three year olds are messy! And the sweet tortilla chips with whip cream and strawberry sauce were an special surprise to end the meal. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to those visiting or living near Mitchell, SD.

Great surprise in Mitchell! I had the enchilada suizas with chicken, delicious! Husband had the combo with beef taco and chile rellano sp? Beans and rice are great! Good margarita and lived my Malibu and diet Pepsi!! Great stop if you're in town or passing by!

Went here on reviews, I'm new to the state, the food was interesting. Albondigas soup was too much like stew, Mole enchiladas... Mole had too much Chocolate flavor and Chicken filling seemed to have been boiled... Sorry the taste was not as spicy as I as looking for. Tasted like cafeteria food. I will give a thumbs up to the house Margarita and the chips w/salsa.

First time here, for lunch, based on reviews. Ordered chicken taco salad for $6.95. No sour cream or guacamole on it and shell was greasy and stale. $2.95 for a side of guacamole for the salad is ridiculous! Chips were good. Small salsa though, cannot fit chips in tiny container. Ladies restroom stalls so small cannot hardly sit in them. Strawberry dessert complimentary is excellent. Service a little slow. Probably would not dine here again.

A slight variation on your standard Midwestern-ish Mexican restaurant - I say "variation" because this location uses cheddar cheese and the chile relleno was more like a pepper wrapped in egg? I'm not sure if there was any breading involved at all to be honest. (I wasn't a big fan and I have to admit, I've had my fair share of these not-so-healthy peppers;) Other highlights: -great service -loved the chunks of cilantro in the salsa - all about the chunks -beautiful tiled bathrooms -spacious and colorful booths -beans available as refried or "cholesterol-free" (I opted for the healthier of the two and really enjoyed them - I probably could have made a meal out of the beans) -Bonus! Free sweet chip topped with strawberry syrup and whipped cream at the end of the meal

In the real world this place gets 2 stars, but remember, this is So Dak. We're lucky there's some form of Mexican in Mitchell. It's worth a stop to get your Mex fix. Their food is overpriced for what you get and it's not really authentic. Depending on what you get it may be a little bland. BUT REMEMBER this place caters to some of the palest people in the country! They get a bonus star for that feat alone ;) If they become any more authentic they might go out of business. I'm half kidding. They have decent top shelf margaritas though. That is a big compliment coming from me. Asking for a margarita around these parts of the country is like asking a bar tender to turn water into wine or something. I've lost count of how many disgusting margaritas I've had elsewhere but Corona Village's are decent. Customer service is good. Oh and they have wifi!!! Since moving to SD my personal fave Mexican joint is Tortilleria Hernandez in Sioux Falls. They need to turn that place into a full blown restaurant!

Not entirely awesome. Food came out quick and the staff was very nice BUT my chili rellenos were not chili rellenos. They were more like an Egg enchilada with chili pieces in the batter. Not awesome. When I order a chili Relleno I expect an actual chili stuffed with cheese and battered in egg.

LARGE PORTIONS!!! If your looking for great food at a great price, this is your place. The food was incredible with very large portions. We asked for our checks to be split but they brought it out as one. The good news is the margaritas are free when you order a meal! I definitely recommend a peach margarita.

Recently stopped in after seeing the "corn palace" Not too side track but that was a waste of time and because of that we were not in a very good mood walking in. The delicious aromas and the friendly staff erased our previous feelings and woke us up. The staff was great, very quick and attentive. All of our meals were excellent. This place is a diamond in the rough. Sure wish it was closer to home so we could frequent on a regular basis.

    (5)
  • Rudee R.

food was top notch, service was good and portions were huge. Trust me and split a meal unless you are really, really hungry. Only reason for knocking them down a star was the Salsa which was far too "smokey" tasting and lacked even a hint of heat. Fix the Salsa and this place would be the bomb!

  • Hilary R.

Decent prices and good for the kids, but food was a little too Americanized for us. Margaritas were too sweet and cheddar cheese was used instead of chihuahua. Good Mexican rice and decent Mole, which is often hard to find.

I recommend this restaurant for its good food, large servings (I had one tostada rice & beans and I was full!) and lightning fast delivery once we ordered. My husband left for a short walk and I had to get him to come back because our food was already at our table. I also liked the chip with chocolate sauce at the end...gratis. A nice break after mediocre food and poor service during our stay in Western SD. I am glad we found this on yelp.

Service was great. Food was delicious. Salsa was awesome. Tried the guacamole and it was good and I don't like guac. I would recommend this place.

  • Peggy R.

The chipotle sauce is AMAZING!! It is good on everything. The salsa was good and had a little heat, which we like. I had the bacon wrapped shrimp and they were just okay, they had been dropped into the deep fat fryer to cook and they were overcooked. The servings are huge!! The service was great!! To be fair we are from NM and our expectations are pretty high for Mexican food, if we are ever back in Mitchell we would go again. Grande Margarita was a 5 star!!!

My favorite restaurant in Mitchell. Great food. Great staff. Huge portions. They give a complimentary dessert. I always get the spinach enchiladas, the top shelf margarita (best drink deal in town), and side of mole sauce (the best I've ever had and I used to live in the South.

  • Dominic S.

The food was good. The atmosphere was good and the service was excellent. I have been back several times

This is the best restaurant in Mitchell! The portions are very large. The platters are about $12-$17 and they come with enough food to feed two people. The service is great, the staff is friendly, the restrooms are clean, and most importantly the food is great! The best thing you can get is one of the burrito plates....VERY large portions for a small place.

    (5)
  • Sandy C.

We had nachos, tacos, and a burrito for 4 people. the portions were huge. We had really great service, and food was good. It was close to interstate 90

We found this restaurant on Yelp when we were on the way to Mount Rushmore in June (2013). From the outside it doesn't look any more (or less) impressive than the zillions of other Mexican restaurants in hand me down buildings that have become as ubiquitous as Chicago gang violence. The food is where Corona Village set themselves apart, and above, the others. The food is fresh and delicious, portion size is grande and beautiful to the eye, menu selection was vast, service was excellent, and the prices were more than reasonable and a great value. Corona Village is definitely one of my top 10 dining memories and I strongly recommend that should you are hungry and near Mitchell South Dakota you absolutely must check it out!

Solid option ... big portions ... excellent stew!!! I'm a fan.

4 1/2 is what I'd give this place if I could. Food portions are HUGE. Margarita's are PERFECT (mine was on the rocks). Servers are friendly and accommodating! Hostess is a bit iffy... When she seated us, we (2) were basically right on top of another couple... asked if we could sit one two-seater over (to allow conversation) and she seriously gave us the EYE before saying, "Sure". Not, "SURE!" or "No problem", but "Sure". Ugh... hate attitude when I'm paying the BILL. Menu is extensive... salsa is a bit runny for my tastes, but it is tasty and chips are unending if you want that.

We stopped for dinner on our way to Sturgis. After a long day of riding, I couldn't wait to have a cold cocktail and a nice dinner. The restaurant is located right off the Interstate and in the middle of a bunch of hotels so it's nice and easy to find. I ordered a margarita which was delivered promptly and it was made with their own margarita mix. It was delicious and reasonably priced. The chips and salsa were pretty good. I really liked the salsa, it was flavorful and had a nice bite to it. Dinner was delicious. Large portions were served. My husband had the arroz con pollo and I had the steak tacos. Both had tons of quality meat and great flavor. I liked that you could choose between regular refried beans and fat free. The service was excellent and the food was worth stopping for.

Very good Mexican food. Wide variety, large portions, tastes authentic. Very busy. We were passing by Mitchell on I-90 and it is convenintly located 2 minutes off interstate.

Great place. While I only there for some adult beverages with friends it was a great time. I am looking forward to actually dining there.

  • Jo B.

Great food, immense portions, good prices. We "chanced" it, seeing it as we drove by. Seated immediately on arrival (Sat. @ 4:30). Servers were pleasant & polite. We had 2 burritos - we could have easily had 1 with plenty between us. and the unexpected sweet (chip w/whipped cream & strawberry sauce) was a perfect ending.

Corona Village is awesome. Good salsa, good service. Big portions of food at an affodable price.

Great service, HUGE portions, liked that the chips came with salsa & bean dip! The menu was so extensive it was a little overwhelming - thumbs up for the enchilada lasagne!

Great Mexican food for a small SD town. Margaritas were good as well, and relatively cheap! Only bad experience was that I ordered a steak taco and cheese burrito ($10.95) and when the check came they had added $2.95 for the steak for the one taco. Seems a little high upgrade for one steak taco...and it would've been nice if they would've told me upfront. Regardless, I'd come back again.

  • Rena O.

The BEST Mexican food I have ever eaten! The portions are bigger than any I have ever had. The salsa was spicy and the chips fresh; wish I didn't eat so many! I had the special, which was chicken in a chipolte sauce, a chimichanga with rice and beans. It was fantastic and a shame I couldn't take it with me. My husband had a combo with shrimp that was in a nice spicy sauce, with skirt steak and an enchilada which was very good. They don't let you leave without desert...warm cinnamon tortilla chips with whipped cream and a strawberry or raspberry sauce. I wish I lived in the area as this would be a favorite.

This is an excellent place to get Mexican food. The value is super and the portions are generous. Friendly staff. Popular place for the locals and on a Friday or Saturday night be prepared for a wait to get a table and everytime I have had lunch there is has been packed. Well worth the wait. The "Mas" platter is amazing and the salsa is to die for!

Love it!!!! Best Mexican food in South Dakota, hands down if you're ever in Mitchell you have to try it. You will not be disappointed their customer service is above and beyond and their food is absolutely delicious.

As a San Diegan I honestly walked into Coronoa Village expecting to be disappointed.... but that was NOT the case!! the menu is large and extensive! the food is tasty and authentic to its nature! the chips and salsa flow heavily, and i even think they have been! CORONA VILLAGE is my new spot for mexican when i visit Mitchell.

Have eaten here many times. Service is always top notch. Not the best Mexican ever because that goes to a couple southern ones but for a northern place it is top notch. Salsa is some of the best and never eaten anything i didn't enjoy.

Great food and large portions. My wife ordered a cup of soup that when delivered we thought it was a bowl. Nope, cup of soup and tasted great. We also shared a boritto and had plenty of food. Service was fast and friendly. Just off I90, we recommend stopping.

The chimichanga and enchilada were inexpensive and tasted great. Kitchen was clean. Our waitress was fantastic - free dessert, smiles and gallons. It was quick, tasty and fun for our family!

  • Babs J.

Nice Mexican food in Mitchell, SD! My husband had chile verde and I had a quesadilla with a side of black beans. The cooking was authentic, the salsa was chunky, and the menu was huge. We took it to go, but the restaurant was comfortable and would be great for a group or to stay for margaritas.

    (4)
  • Pat B.

Excellent food for the price. Huge platter ( the best was Tres Amigos), terrific margaritas. Eduardo was warm & personable, a delightful waiter. What a find when we were just passing through town!

I am on a trip, and passing thru Mitchell. We stopped at a local Hotel, one that happily accepts dogs, and walked to a nearby Restaurant, Corona Village. I ordered the Bravo Burrito. It was delicious, and enough food to feed three people. The service was friendly, efficient and cheerful. Our waitress, Kathy, wonderful. When you live in Maryland, it's hard to find your favorite Mexican restaurant in South Dakota.

If you are in the area and looking for great mexican food......STOP HERE !! I had the tortilla soup and the stock had a nice peppery flavor and the chicken was melt in your mouth delicious. My hubby had the ensalada del mar and the scallops were nice huge ones and the fish and shrimp were moan worthy....if we lived in the area we would eat here regularly, sadly we are just passing through, Also, if you are margarita snobs like we are, you MUST order the "top shelf" one......comes in its own shaker and no pre-made nasty mixer here!! Order it, you will not be disappointed, You really have to impress us to get 5 stars and they did it, above and beyond :-)

Surprisingly very good. Was not expecting to find really good Mexican in SD, especially being from Texas. Had the carne asada. Very goo and the rancho beans are really good.

    (5)
  • Sarah B.

Very good Mexican. The staff was very friendly. The prices were very reasonable, especially for kids meals. As several people have already mentioned, the top shelf margarita is delicious and a generous pour for me, the casual drinker.

  • Jane S.

Huge portions, good (not great) service, food was good but overly salty and greasy for my taste. Probably the top road trip pit stop in the area though

    (4)
  • Tara W.

Chain. Service was good, food was fast. They have a vegetarian section on the menu and also a kids menu with crayons. Food was OK, I'd say maybe comparable to an Acapulco's, not as good as a Margarita's (New England chain). They did provide complementary dessert chips with cinnamon and whipped cream.

  • Dave M.

We arrived only 15 minutes before closing, but they were just as accommodating as if it was 6 o'clock. Super friendly staff, delicious salsa. Never rushed at all, even when we were well past closing time. Giant portion of carne asada skirt steak. Hands down some of the best Mexican food I have enjoyed.

  • Adam N.

Our server was fantastic. She was helpful, quick, and had a good sense of humor about her. We all enjoyed our dishes: veggie enchiladas, spinach enchiladas, and black bean soup. Food came out quickly and was well presented. It's very traditional Mexican-American food - not too authentic nor too American-ized. It says very filling and at a good price. I can see why this place was pretty full! It's worth eating at if you're in town.

I saw the reviews and thought ok this is a low risk due to the 4.5 stars. Should be 5:Wow what a wonderful experience! Great unique Mexican dishes and our server (Sekka!) was so inviting, professional, pick an adjective. From the minute we sat down and by the way we immediately had chips and salsa and a friendly smile.--a treasure.

Very friendly staff, giant portions. A big basket of chips and desserts, complimentary. Salsa was great too. Really decent Mexican food in SD.

The yelppers do not lie a lot of food and good price. Nice friendly staff and the best corinitas north of Texas.

Love that they have kids eat free Sunday's! They are always polite and affordable. I have yet to get bad food here! I recommend the chicken anything!

I have been to many different Mexican restaurants at different cities and I can tell this is one of the best mexican restaurants, especially in South Dakota, maybe even entire Rocky mountain region. The waitress had a great smile, very good attitude and their menu is so rich with lots of options. Very Fast Service! We ordered steak fajita omg the meat was so tender and juicy. After our meal she also brought us a sweet treat, with cinnamon sugar and strawberry sauce out of charge. The best and most friendly restaurant I have been recently. Thanks!

Being from Southern California we were a little skeptical . But we were very pleased with the quality and taste. Everything was authentic Mexican, even better than where we live. Service was excellent and the prices were very fair, great place for Mexican food!

Great Food!!! Fajitas were amazing. The service was excellent, portions were generous. I highly recommend this jewel of a restaurant.

  • Suecia L.

Coming from Southern California I was skeptical to try Mexican food from the Midwest, especially since I'm not into TexMex. But I was pleasantly surprised. The menu is extensive, the portions are huge & the prices are decent. They served refried beans with chips and salsa, which was great. They have a green salsa (when requested) that's has really good flavor & quite a kick. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because the service was slow. Food quality and portions 5+ stars.

Husband had the taco salad, daughter had the Pollo a la Crema, I had the Fiesta Asada. Mine was the best by far; I'd order it again if I could. Large portions, complimentary dessert, broad selections of kids' dishes, and a margarita drink special. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

1st of all, Corona Village was open on Sunday during my weekend in Mitchell. Quickly greeted and seated by friendly staff. Chips and salsa- excellent with some kick! If you like Mexican food, you owe it to yourself to eat here. I had the Fiesta Asada and it was off the chart. In this restaurant, people literally "ooo and Ahhh" when their order arrives. Generous portions of outstanding food actually prepared with pride. Corona Village is an excellent choice!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
