I had the brisket with beans and slaw and it was great. Prepared perfectly and spot on with spiciness. Mac even came out to check in his guests. I like visiting places where I can see the owner working on premise. The staff was very helpful and courteous. Definitely stop here on your way to Mount Rushmore or for a lunch stop riding through the hills. You will not be disappointed.
My favourite meal while in South Dakota, and I had a lot of great meals at different local spots. Fried chicken was killer.
We smelled this place from the 1880 train on our way to hill city from keystone. Smelled so good that when we got back to keystone we hopped in the car and drove to hill city to Mac's. We were not disappointed. It tasted as good as it smelled! I had the brisket basket with coleslaw and French fries. My husband had prime rib sandwhich. We both thought the bbq sauce was excellent (wish Mac bottled and sold it!). Mac came out to greet us and was super friendly...as was the rest of the staff. Don't miss out on this place!! Definitely worth the stop.

Stopped here on a road trip. What a great find! Cozy bar with live music on the weekends. Chris was knowledgable and took great care of us. Definitely worth the stop.
After our stop at Prairie Berry, we decided to check out Miner Brewing Company. When we arrived, I noticed they had several great beers to choose from, which are about $6 a pint glass. They also have a tasting of 6 beers (which they choose) for $8. You can also get a single sample for $1.50. We decided to go with their 6 beers and then also tried an Oatmeal Stout and the Mango Cream Ale. My husband drank most of the beers since I was the DD, so I can only comment on the Oatmeal Stout and the Mango Cream Ale. I enjoyed the Oatmeal Stout, but LOVED the Mango Cream Ale. I'm not a light beer person, but this might be my favorite lite beer I have ever tried. It was super refreshing and had such a great mango aftertaste. In addition to good beer, they have quite a variety of seating, as well as lots of games around to play. My husband and I really enjoyed playing both cribbage and Jenga while we were there. While I didn't try any of them, they also serve pan pies here. Finally, they donate $1 from each pint of Unite Red Ale to Well Aware, a clean drinking foundation (which is fantastic). In sum, I'm really glad we stopped by!
I was in the area and had heard about this place previously so knew I had to stop by. They had quite a few beers on tap when I was there and do offer flights. I was driving a long haul so could only try a few. The Belgian Dubbel was my favorite! One thing I noticed at this place is that they put the date of the last line cleaning on the tap list. Super cool and let's you know you're drinking from clean lines! This place is absolutely worth stopping by if you're in the area!

Great food and good prices. We went 4 times this week. Cash only but has a ATM machine
Best place to eat in the Black Hills! You get your choice of a large or small filet..lol thats it, but they are Great. They give you a quarter head of lettuce for your salad, its alot. My advice is to get there early They have limited hrs. And they get very busy!
Very crowded during Sturgis event. Here at 4:30pm, 5pm seating full, waiting for 6pm seating. Finally seated at 6:15. Liz ordered her 9 oz Bacon Wrapped Filet Mignon well done, seasoned with black pepper only. (Liz is allergic to bell peppers, allspice, paprika, etc). I ordered mine medium rare. Both filets were perfect. I also substituted the baked potato for Spaetzle. It had Swiss cheese with it. Awesome! Our deserts were, as Liz says, "ohh - very good" Worth the wait!

Food was ok. Service was ok. Not much else to really say. We had burgers for lunch... Elk burger tough and dry but elk is kinda like that anyway. The fries were good. Was nice to sit out on the patio.
Food menu is classic diner food but with a satisfying taste... Looking for ice cream treats they got it! The waiting staff seemed to be a little awkward and uncomfortable. You can't argue that their menu isn't delish though!
This place is amazing. Burger was awesome. Pulled pork was tasty. Kids meals are a good size. Waitress knows how to treat guests very well, including the kids. This place has a nice 60s diner feel. The only thing that could make this place better would be if the food was free. Lol.

This place was great. You can customize your burger with different cheeses, sauces, toppings (fried egg anyone). The coleslaw and lemonade are both freshly made. Awesome. They even had gluten free buns.
Took a while to get our food. The staff didn't seem to have a really good work flow for a lengthy line of customers. It felt like their POS took a lot of taps to put in an order. Food was alright. Lots of fried, greasy goodness, pretty much what you'd expect from a burger place. My BBQ pulled pork was good. I only wish I had lighter side items, but that's not important to everyone. Sometimes you just want a burger and fry, right? There's a sign that says burgers are cooked medium rare by default, which seemed atypical. Most places cook well done unless requested. Could be a nasty surprise if you're not paying attention to the sign. Apparently they make fresh squeezed lemonade, as well as free cool aid for the kids.
I had great expectations due to the location that formerly housed Linda's Deli. It ended with disappointment. The chubby in Chubby Burger ended up lean. I can understand the front of the house being not on the ball after only 3 weeks if the product they delivered was outstanding and the place was packed. However, neither condition was met. Substandard fare with lackluster service at an elevated price tag. My advice, drive north to the Sugar Shack or south to Burger and Bun.

Service was great and the food delicious ! Highly recommend the bison burger and the chicken fried steak ! If you enjoy beer the moose drool is a must! Don't be fooled by it being a dark beer is creamy smooth and even comes in a 25oz size ! The booths all have a tv and there is a rooftop deck as well.
Randomly chose this place among the options on Main Street. This place is more of a bar that serves food rather than a restaurant. I had Rocky Mountain Oysters here (my first time!) and they were fine. My pulled pork sandwich (the Road Hogg) was good - no complaints. Overall, decent food, friendly service, and you get a TV at every booth.
5-star ambience; 3-star food. This place is cute and fun with very friendly staff. Be sure to pick up a t-shirt or two!!

Interesting place....food was wonderful and very accommodating to food allergies and we met some very fun people there. It is not what we expected, it's right off the Main Street, we were scolded for breaking some rules, the prices are reasonable, and Dawna is a good person who loves her place and is very knowledgable about the area.

It's good for what it is. A decent cafe in a touristy town with not many choices for dining. I had the chicken fried steak, it was good, but I've had better. It came with a baked potato, Texas toast and a generous portion of fresh green beans (I loved those!) The patty melt was very good and the French fries were excellent. Tamara greeted us and we had a fun time chatting with her. We biked 18 miles on the Mickelson Trail and loved every minute of this gorgeous area.
I had the chicken fried steak last year and it was smothered with this great tasting gravy. Visiting this year, I made it a point to return and have it again. Sorry to say it was not the same. The mashed potatoes didn't taste "homemade" and the steak and gravy were so bland, I'm a bit embarrassed to admit I had to resort to using ketchup on it. The service, however, was great!
Don't listen to the whiners who write bad reviews about this cafe! This is an excellent place to have breakfast in the mornings before going out to adventure in the Black Hills. I ate here for breakfast one morning and had a cinnamon roll and biscuits and gravy. The cinnamon roll was home made and tasted excellent. I was also very impressed with the biscuits and gravy. The service was fast and friendly. They were always there to fill up my coffee cup when needed. I would give this place 5 star but I have not yet experienced dinner here, but I am certain I would be impressed with it.

As others said, I'm generally skeptical of on-site restaurant options, but sometimes you have no choice in the matter. Ate two dinners here during my stay at Palmer Gulch last weekend. Both times I was one of a party of 10 people. The first time, we squeezed around a few combined tables. The second time, the hostess tried to give us multiple separate tables, until we told her what worked the first time. Service was spotty. The first waitress refused to allow an order without the cornbread side. It literally would have meant the bread was not placed on the plate prior to bringing said plate to customer but she didn't seem to understand that. Refills were slow to come, and checks were given the second night without asking if we wanted dessert. The food was...meh. Okay enough, but laregly in the sandwich/burger arena. This isn't where you'll eat if you want gourmet food.
Bland and boring overall. Located next to the Mount Rushmore KOA, it is the only restaurant close by (within walking distance) of the campground. Big tip is that if you want an adult beverage, have you ID ready as they card everyone! I had the Chicken Fried Steak with mashed potatoes and gravy. It was standard diner fare quality, passable but nothing special. The vegetable medley that came with it was straight up frozen goods and was not appetizing. My wife had the Fried Taco, which while a generous portion was super bland. She commented that the ground beef had no seasoning what so ever, just cooked hamburger. Overall, the food was simply lacking and next time I would stay at the campsite and cook.
buffalo burger was thin dry and lacked flavor--wifes steak tips were thin dry and lacked flavor--not so good...
