    Staying near Mt Rushmore, and this restaurant was recommended by the staff at the hotel. It did not disappoint. We got complementary adult beverages from a coupon from the hotel. I had the buffalo ribeye, medium rare, which came out just right. The wife got the cod, which was also good. The wait staff was on time, brought us sorbets between courses to cleanse, and even brought our table more sorbet for dessert. Overall, a worthwhile family dining experience.

    I had the buffalo burger and fries with a tasty bahama mama cocktail. The service was first class ( Ellie ) and the burger was so good. On my next trip to the Black Hills I will make a stop here to enjoy a good meal.

    A mixed experience this dinner, from outstanding prime rib, tender and moist, on a really ho-hum bun for french dip, adequate artichoke dip with tired tortilla chips, so-so fries, and not so good clam chowder. The thing to do, I think, is to spring for the prime rib dinner. I would eat here again and do just that. Funky old decor. Classical music that was an odd choice for ambbience.

    My culinary experiences in the midwest weren't too great, but this place was one of the better dining options in Custer. Me and Dad were staying in Custer as a central location to go check out Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse and all the beautiful National Parks in the area. I'd already struck out twice on restaurants, so I let Dad pick our last meal in Custer. The Captain's Table reminded me a lot of my Grandmother's house in Colorado. She's no longer with us, but it sure looks like a lot of her interior decorating ended up here! Very old school. Warm. Inviting. Kitsch. When we first got there, they sat us in the bar, but it wasn't very comfortable and smelled a little stuffy. They graciously relocated us to a table. The meal started off with some rolls. Just typical grocery store rolls. Not fresh baked or anything. I got a buffalo burger which was pretty good, but could have used a little seasoning. It came with a baked potato that was nicely baked instead of just microwaved like the other places in town. Strangely enough, between courses, they gave us little tiny servings of lemon sorbet. Random! Well, at least for this place it seemed random. Dad got trout which was frozen, but good. He keeps wondering why there's no fresh trout anywhere and I keep wondering why I can't get good red meat in the middle of cattle country? Our waitress was super nice, funny, and attentive. She took great care of us. I doubt I'll ever be back in Custer, but if I am, I'll head to the Captain's Table!

    I was perusing the restaurants in Custer, SD here on Yelp, and I realized there's a Quizno's. That would have been better than what we consumed at the Captain's Table. The night before doing Crazy Horse's annual Volksmarch, I dined here with my fiancee, father, and brother, for my birthday. The waitress was an old grouch. Knowing we were tourists, she didn't bother with pleasantries. She asked what we wanted to drink, and my father said he wanted water. Instead of moving on to the next person, she immediately walked away from the table to retrieve the water, while the rest of us looked on with confusion. When ordering our meals, my fiancee made a comment about me being the "birthday girl," and she said nothing, and we certainly didn't get a free dessert, or anything. Our food was "meh." Three of us had the super-expensive chopped steak (which was actually the cheapest meat entree on the menu) and it didn't at all taste like steak, but instead unseasoned hamburger patty. I insisted on drenching mine with A1. My fiancee had the buffalo burger -- also unseasoned -- and it came without any cheese. My baked potato was nothing special, and the rolls were, indeed, the standard, flavorless, grocery-store variety.

    way dissapointed in the service and this was recommended by my hotel. food was actually prettygood .However the service was. very disappointing. I would NOT reccomend this restaurant!

    The waitress was green and had no clue what she was doing she even did not go over their specials. Next the clam chowder soup was more like a potato soup. My wife ordered a captain salad and she told her no ice berg lettuce and guess what the salad was a disguise with icebergs lettuce and few romaine lettuce in top. Their prices are high and nothing special about the whole place. Finally my rib eye stake was 40% fat. The cut was cheap

    Decent restaurant serving up meat and fish. It felt old but pretty cool in there. I had a couple of complimentary house beers bc I was staying at a hotel nearby that had some sort of deal with the restaurant. I'm not a beer drinker but whatever beer it was, I thought it was pretty tasty. I had gout recently so I couldn't eat meat that nite. So I had some sort of fish for dinner. It was ok. Not the freshest tasting fish, but it wasn't bad either. My gf had prime rib. I had 1 bite of that. It was bloody and delicious! Skip the italian soda drinks. They weren't all that. The waitress was nice. We wanted some sorbet for desert that wasn't on the menu and she brought it out for us anyways. That was unexpected and really nice! Extra tip for her!

    Good restaurant with full bar. Excellent martini drinks. Service was excellent -- our waitress was on the spot when we needed her and food was delivered expeditiously. Food was good but not great. My trout was somewhat dry. The decor is somewhat dated, and the booths not firmly affixed to the floor. The man in the booth behind me continually squirmed and made my side of the booth move. I felt like there was a 2 year old there. Anyway, an OK restaurant in a resort area.

    The food at the Captain's Table isn't something to write home about but worthy of writing a review. Unfortunately, it isn't good enough to write a glowing review. I had their buffalo ribeye. It was lackluster with zero flavor and fairly tough. The French Fries were standard fair and the rolls were the fake and bake variety you can find anywhere.

    Great restaurant with great food and service! Our group had the prime rib as well as the cod; they were both fantastic!! The prime rib was possibly the best two of us in the group have ever had. The owners (who were the bartender and cook) were very friendly. Everyone on our group would highly recommend this restaurant.

    I sort of feel bad for even writing a review on the Captain's Table. I mean, it's my fault for going to a "seafood" restaurant in the Black Hills. I know better. But they had some high points. The hot artichoke dip, Italian sodas, and the buffalo are all really good. I was shocked when I had a frozen french fry. I mean, a restaurant like that should make them fresh. Made me wonder if the mashers were from a box..they sort of looked like it. Basically, if you are a foodie..you'll be disappointed. But if you are really hungry and eat red meat, you'll probably be happy.

    Great restaurant with great food and service! Our group had the prime rib as well as the cod; they were both fantastic!! The prime rib was possibly the best two of us in the group have ever had.
