What an excellent restaurant! We stopped here on a road trip to Mt. Rushmore. The lady who works next door at the Rock Shop suggested we try it when we asked her what the best place to eat was! The burgers were cooked to perfection and come in a variety of options to satisfy both basic and artisanal burger palettes. We so got the Rhubarb bread pudding for dessert; it was superb. It was pretty affordable at only about $7 for a burger and a delicious side. I suggest the potato salad! Service was fast and friendly and the environment was quirky and homey.
Excellent pulled pork nachos -- an experience, for sure. Enjoyed the burger and fries, too. A good place, if you can get in. Tried the night before for dinner, but the wait was 1/2 hour! Lunch the next day was a bit easier.
Very good service when we walked in. And the place was packed!! Had to wait 5-10 minutes just because of our size of our group. Food was excellent ordered cheese curds and a Fat smitty buffalo burger. Forgot what the topping are go to their website to find out. Very good food, I will definitely go back there.

So pleasantly surprised to find this gem! 9 of us of varied ages and tastes came in for dinner at 7 PM. It was quite full so we had to split our party which was no problem. We frankly had minimal expectations considering we were in a small resort town. Our group was comprised of well travelled foodies. The blue cheese bruschetta started us off with a winner. Despite the full house we were waited on promptly. We ordered 8 different main dishes and every one met or exceeded expectations. Even the side salads were noteworthy. Desert? Amazing. So good I had to ask about the pastry chef as they had to have been made in house considering their freshness and uniqueness. Turns out he was from Minnesota was working for 6 weeks during high season. I want to move this guy to my hometown. Great food and good prompt friendly service. I'd be a regular if I lived here!!
I have eaten here several times over the past 5 years or so on my trips to Custer. The atmosphere is nice and staff has been always friendly and professional. I recommend their salmon. In addition, they have a nice selection of wine to choose from.
Very tasty GF options! This is a neat cafe' with some really cool dishes and good service. I enjoyed the Jamaican Chicken Fricassee; my partner enjoyed the pork with mango salsa - both were very good! I would happily stop here again and recommend it!

First time here. Breakfast was fantastic. Nice local diner.
We were looking for somewhere to have breakfast on our way out of Custer that would fill us up for hopefully not too much money before heading out back to California and this place met and exceeded our expectations! Yummy food, large portions, reasonable prices & friendly, attentive service. Plus every inch of wall & shelf is covered in things to look at. :) A must when you're in Custer!!
Great breakfast joint...we ate here twice! Good home cookin', and nice sized portions. They even had a daily breakfast special for around $6!

Awesome chili, good burger and ice cold beer. From the outside this place looks pretty rough and tumble -- I like a dive but not everyone does -- but once you get inside it is a friendly place and the restaurant is a family joint. I had heard about the chili from the guy at my hotel and it didn't disappoint. A nice mix of ground beef and beans that was just spicy enough. I hear that the friday fish fry is really worth trying, but i had already ordered a burger -- which was great.

OK, so I may be a little biased because I grew up on the Flintstones but this place was awesome. My 2 children were free, they are under 5, and my niece and I were 10$ each I thought the price was nice since most things are at a 30 $ minimum. The town was cute and clean. They did a great job having all the important parts of bedrock. The playground was fun and the train ride was great too. We too a ride in Fred's car and the staff was very friendly. I'm so glad I went and sad to hear the one in AZ closed :(
I grew up watching The Flintstones and now I watch it with my six year old daughter and she's a fan too. I'm so glad that we stopped by to check it out even though she wasn't traveling with us. I loved it! I took so many pictures of and with the characters. Bedrock City was super cute. I love the little movie theater that sold popcorn and showed Flintstones cartoons. The gift shop was great. They had a lot of cute shirts . I bought two but when I got home I realized I should have bought a larger size for my daughter. I called the store and spoke to Shirley and she was so wonderful and helped me with the exchange. I am still so thrilled with the wonderful customer service and the shirts. Looking back, I should have bought more. On our way out, I stopped at the "Drive Inn" snack bar in front for a strawberry shake for the drive back to Rapid City and it definitely hit the spot. Yabba Dabba Doo!!
This is definitely a family with small children kind of attraction. We did a pit stop here and took some photos with the billboards. The line is long and just gets longer as the day goes by. I recommend coming here early.

Wife ordered fried chicken- came out still frozen What else do I need to say?
Stopped by for breakfast while riding the Black Hills during Sturgis week. The food was good, the service was quick, and the restaurant was clean. I had the Sausage Gravy Biscuits which were good, not great. My wife ate the scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, bacon, and toast. She likes her bacon crispy and they did not disappoint when she ordered it that way.
I was out in the Black Hills on vacation so one evening, I stopped in for dinner. Nice place. Kinda plain inside and the booth tables are really high compare to the seats. I felt like a 10 yr old at the dinner table. =) I had their 1/3 lb burger w/ bacon. Freaking delicious!!! The fries are tasty as well. I had a bite of the bison burger and those bisons are yummy. It kinda figures I was admiring the bisons in Custer State Park one day and then eating one another day. =) The waitress was really nice too!

Hostess extremely rude. Couldn't be bothered by us. I asked how long to seat 10 (which I know is a lot) and she said an hour. So I asked to split the group and she said we would be better off going somewhere else. Had to push my disabled father all the way down the street to Cattlemans. Extremely accommodating and very polite. Don't waste your time with the BB. It's BS!
Great elk and bison burger. The fries were really good as well.
Started out poorly and went downhill to downright bad. I gave one star only because Yelp would not accept the review zero stars, which I tried to do. The restaurant management definitely doesn't depend on repeat business in this tourist town, but they need to remember that there are review sites too. Hostess tried to seat us at the worst table in the restaurant or bar -- a tall table in the bar, right in front of the door. There were numerous other tables and booths available so we asked to be moved and she complied fairly graciously. Drinks: Our server didn't know what a Cape Cod was. He did bring the drinks out within a few minutes, but never came back to ask if we wanted another, or to refill our waters. Food Quality: I ordered soup and salad -- the chicken and rice soup was just OK, but not quite hot enough. Salad was greens out of a bag. My husband had the buffalo burger which he said was OK and it tasted just like beef. It came with french fries -- all 10 of them. Food service: 30 minutes after ordering with no food in sight, we asked the hostess to send over the manager. A few minutes later he arrived, just at the same time the food did. He gave apologies, and didn't charge for the burger. We were ready to pay for our drinks and leave but there weren't many choices in town that were open on a Sunday evening. I can't think of anything else -- except that a table next to us asked for the manager too, and he never bothered to come. It appeared that everyone's food was a long time coming out.

Laughing Water Restaurant

Great service and you can't beat the view! Tasty buffalo cheeseburger, was lean, moist and flavorful. Have had buffalo before and this was one of the best. Need to visit again during the normal season, would be great for the nighttime light show.
Laughing water is quite possibility the worst restaurant I've experienced. We paid $20, per person for the buffet that included lifeless lettuce, canned beans and corn, tilapia with a rubber like texture and ranch dressing that tasted thick and syrupy. There are much better restaurants in the town of Custer.
I'm a 23 year old who was refused a beer since my valid id was vertical instead of horizontal. I was put off by that ordeal and after paying way too much for tickets to see a partially built memorial I felt the least they could do was sell me a beer. We both had the Native American Taco and thought the fry bread tortilla was great. No outdoor seating.

Staying near Mt Rushmore, and this restaurant was recommended by the staff at the hotel. It did not disappoint. We got complementary adult beverages from a coupon from the hotel. I had the buffalo ribeye, medium rare, which came out just right. The wife got the cod, which was also good. The wait staff was on time, brought us sorbets between courses to cleanse, and even brought our table more sorbet for dessert. Overall, a worthwhile family dining experience.
I had the buffalo burger and fries with a tasty bahama mama cocktail. The service was first class ( Ellie ) and the burger was so good. On my next trip to the Black Hills I will make a stop here to enjoy a good meal.
A mixed experience this dinner, from outstanding prime rib, tender and moist, on a really ho-hum bun for french dip, adequate artichoke dip with tired tortilla chips, so-so fries, and not so good clam chowder. The thing to do, I think, is to spring for the prime rib dinner. I would eat here again and do just that. Funky old decor. Classical music that was an odd choice for ambbience.
