I wanted to find some where to eat I went to my yelp app. i found Carolina Buffet. Thought well I will try it, The reviews looks good. WOW! it was very good the best country cooking i have had in a while. I did not know this place was here but a lot of others did the parking lot was packed. But we didn't have to wait and the food is worth the wait (If you have to wait lol)
OMG!!! This place is a MUST visit. Not much to look at but the FOOD! All is homemade. If your from the south and you had a grandma that could cook good southern food. This is what you want to come back to. So very very good. Now I will tell you... if you are a Clemson Fan (GO TIGERS!!!!) be careful you are in Gamecock territory. I think it is a requirement to work there.... They were all wearing those horrible shirts! I almost did not make it out alive because I ate so much. Oh and if they have the Sour Cream Pound Cake swimming in Strawberries and Whipped Cream... GET IT!!!! WHAT! That's all I have to say.
I loved this place, but if you are looking for candlelight dining atmosphere this is not it. What they do have is some of the best southern home cooking I've ever had, which is more amazing considering its buffet style...and it's reasonably priced. It's all good here!

The best restaurant around! Their like a family and always have never had a bad meal from here!! Love house of pizza!!!! If I could give more stars I wld
This place is a great place to grab a bite to eat, lunch or dinner, you can't go wrong. The menu is huge and the portion sizes, well, just about a big as their menu. The servers here are among some of the best, always attentive to your needs and they always have a smile on their faces. The food is amazing, I have never had a bad experience here. Their salad bar, while small, is the best part of the restaurant. With just one trip I get enough to hold me over till my entree arrives and I still have enough to take home with me. Compared to most places the price is about average, but their food is awesome.
Let's start with the fact that I have really high standards for a house of pizza. The town I grew up in, and the neighboring town each had their own house of pizza, and although very different, they both had excellent food. The south congaree house of pizza is good, but sometimes they have quality issues. What's good: the house burger, the pits sandwiches, and the service. What's not as good: the eggs on the salad bar are usually green from being over cooked, the hamburger steak-obviously a frozen meatloaf like patty. The Italian sub- I wonder if they cut the meat with a chainsaw, my Bologna was super thin on one side, and about 3/4 inch thick on the other side. Overall it's worth a shot for a burger, but it's no fine dining establishment.

I can't believe we have such a gem of a BBQ joint right here in the Columbia area. I tried a bit of everything but the chicken, and I can't wait to try that next time. This place has world class BBQ. The pulled pork, ribs, and hash are all just perfectly smoky and the sauce is delicious. They even have the best slaw I may have ever eaten. The pork skins were a real delight. How it is that this place escaped my attention for the first decade I resided here I will never know. I just hope that this place is always there as long as I live here. Do yourself a favor and go get some BBQ at Hite's.
Hite's is THE best place to get bbq! Their bbq is great and their bbq chicken is even better. Their ribs are also killer. And their hash. Ok everything is my favorite thing. Go here!
Hite's is the best. Nothing says summer to me more than a friday night when mom would pick up bbq chickens and fixins. The pork is great as well, but no one makes a better BBQ chicken than Hites. Great meat counter too. Good onion sausage. Love the pre wrapped bbq sandwich to sneak on the ride home. True West Columbia Legend!

First off, cute place, it's a house, seating is separated in the different rooms and the back porch, so it feels like you are at a big family gathering at Aunt Susie's house. The menu is pretty standard with burgers, sandwiches and salads, and they offer a daily lunch special. This was my first time here as I was in Lexington to have my truck Linex ed and came on yelp to find a nearby place of interest for lunch. I decided to go for the fried catfish special. It was good. Had a home cooked feel to it. Nice sized fish portion, the fish was a slight mushy texture, which to me means either over or undercooked, it was plenty hot, so it may have tended on the over done side. I'm not real familiar with how catfish is supposed to be, however it tasted good, so that's the most important thing. The breading on it was perfect though, light and crispy, that made the fish. The fries were ok, nothing special. The slaw was a satisfying chopped texture versus the usual shredded type, which I liked, the sauce was a creamy mayo with not much sweetness, it was good, but I've had better. The hush puppies were good, a bit too much onion flavor, but they were smooth inside, with no bits of stuff, which I liked. Apparently they are known for desserts and ice cream, which I did not try, but the table next to me got a gooey chocolate cake that was shared by 4 ladies, there was no way I was touching that by myself, but they were all raving about it. Overall, this a is a nice place, it's not far from the airport, but it is off the beaten path a little bit, so you have to know about it to end up there.
Went to the Backyard for the first time yesterday and fell in love! We had excellent service, the blacked chicken & black and bleu salads were both delicious and the homemade ice cream was amazing! (We has Girl Scout lemon cookie & birthday cake.) They have live music weekend evenings and daily specials (a regular at the next table told me to watch out for the baked spaghetti *drool*)! Very happy to have moved in just a few blocks away- I will be here frequently!
This is our go to place when we have friends and family in town. The food is always great! Service is friendly. They are kid friendly. We are usually there once a week. Just wish they had breakfast hours!

Nowadays it seems more of a punk & emo haven, but back in the day I saw the Olivia Tremor Control, Elf Power, Macha & other late 90s/early 00s Elephant 6 psych rock Gods descend from on high (aka nearby Athens, GA). WUSC (the University of South Carolina's radio station) would sponsor a lot of shows at the NBT. A couple of WUSC kids wound up buying the place about a year after I moved out of town, & I'm not sure what became of it, but I know it's still open & I know of at least one friend I went to school with who still has a hand in it.
So...what to say about this hole-in-the-wall joint other than that this place is amazing! I've been to a few concerts here and every time the experience has been enjoyable. On this night was came to see We Came As Romans. This place gets very loud when bands are playing and extremely hot. But people don't come here because of the way the venue looks like, they come for what has become Columbia's hub for the underground music scene and to see national acts that play imitate venues. I advise anyone wanting to go to a show here get their ticket in advance. The bands put on a great show. Be warned moshing is a big part of shows here, so don't go in the pit unless you want to be a part of it. Overall, if you want to check out some great bands and have a great time check it out. Just expect to have a unique, but a great experience! Plus many of the shows are less than $15 so it is a low cost way to have fun for a night.
I used to be a big fan of New Brookland. A lot of my favorite South Carolina bands play here so I find myself at NBT from time to time. Yes, the place is unbearably hot, the bathrooms are filthy and most of the bartenders are slow but drinks are cheap, they get some good bands that come through there and ticket prices are always low. But the last time I went was to see SUSTO and it was a disaster. One of the bartenders was drunk, there was a homeless man wandering around the club harassing people (which the bouncer just laughed about), you couldn't understand anything coming out of the sound system and my friends and I sat at the bar waiting for SUSTO to go on and 3 hours after they were scheduled to go on and still hadn't hit the stage, we left with a bad taste in our mouths.

Mai Thai

2249 Sunset Blvd
West Columbia, 29169
Reviews:
The location (in one of the more run-down strip malls along Sunset blvd.) and weird mirrored exterior of the restaurant might be a turn-off for anyone who hasn't been before, but the food at Mai Thai is consistently good and very fresh. The presentation of the food is a major bonus - everything was beautiful, and the rice was served in the shape of a heart. The interior is well-decorated and intimate, but it can get pretty noisy on busy nights. You should definitely plan ahead if you want to take a date here, though, because there is frequently a wait to get a table, and the food preparation takes a while (which is, as others have said, a testament to the freshness). So don't come here if you're already hungry! Mai Thai isn't my vote for the best thai food in town, but it is definitely the best thai food within its price range.
I will agree with the other reviewers about the exterior of the place - I almost didn't go in because it looks very rundown especially if going for dinner. The servers are not very friendly - went there with my husband and kids and we each ordered our own entrees. I enjoyed mine very much (the drunken noodles) however my husbands tasted off (he had a chicken curry dish). He sent his back and told the server that it tasted off but they refused to take it off the bill! The servers response to my husband was "next time try something different"! I couldn't believe it - will not be going back.
Sucks. Takes forever to take the order and get your food. Worse customer care. Would never go there.. Food is great though..

Local, family owned business with friendly proprietors and good food. We've been coming here for about 5 years now. The shopping center it's located in looks a little dated but the restaurant is clean, the food is reasonably priced. We always order take out so I can't vouch for the buffet, but still recommended for american- style chinese.
