I visited this eatery yesterday, then again today for lunch. I had a lovely freshly patted cheeseburger all the way with fresh cut French Fries on Saturday. Today I opted for the buffet. The order from the menu was stellar, the buffet was a huge disappointment. I arrived today within 15 minutes of opening, ordered coffee and the buffet. It took the server three trips to the table to get me some coffee after 10 minutes' wait. She asked many questions to ascertain if I wanted cream, sugar, and brought a spoon on her third trip to the table. Ugh! They only make the first pot of coffee when it's requested! I served myself to the buffet; there were fried chicken, chicken and dumplings (not house made dumplings), pulled pork Bar B Q and baked chicken parts. In addiditon, there was fried (from frozen breaded) okra, canned green beans, canned corn, soupy potato salad, over-baked macaroni and cheese and cornbread stuffing/dressing, plain rice, and pasta salad. There were cake squares of some unknown variety, too. I was unimpressed with the quality of the cooking: the Bar B Q was overly vinegary, the fried chicken was bland, and the sides were of poor quality. I cannot abide canned veggies or soupy slaw and potato salad. Neither do I like eating from plastic plates and drinking from styrofoam cups. As for the service, it's definitely lackluster, bordering on irritating. Both servers checked on me within a minute of each other several times. They offered to refill my coffee by taking my cup to the pot, not the reverse. I had to request water. There's no ticket system. You have to approach the register and wait until the management deigns to acknowledge and accept your money when he feels the urge. Wow, these owners haven't a clue, and it appears they are stumbling along, willy-nilly. Since the business is in a new location this month, with conflicting signage, I predict they won't last. The sign over the door says "Becky's Cafe" but the covered abandoned gas pump out front says "Eddy's Bar B Q". The gas pump interferes with up-front parking, too. Poorly prepared, sub-standard buffet offerings won't float, even when there's little competetion nearby. The prices are fine, but just eat off the menu. They offer chicken salad and pimento cheese, both made in-house. You can get it by weight to take out, as well. The menu even offers quesadillos, but I wouldn't have high expectations on the expertise of the preparation, the cook staff isn't of Latin American origin. An eatery in this town has the potential of success due to the proximity to I-95, and its on a major route to Myrtle Beach from parts inland. If the service, management and chow were less iffy, maybe it would endure. I'm not convinced this will be the result of their business venture. Open 11:00 until 9:00 daily.
