I've been here several times and the food is always wonderful! LOVE the shrimp and grits!

Great food at a great value. We had the fried oyster app which was perfect & had a nice remoulade. Then we had the salmon which had a perfect cucumber doll sauce. The fried okra was just right, as were collards. And I live in Atlanta, which has some of the best southern cuisine you can imagine.

A hidden gem! Looks like a hole in the wall from the outside but don't be fooled. Inside is nice and well kept. The shrimp and grits were amazing (and I usually don't like grits)! Fried Mac n cheese balls were equally fabulous. Excellent service on top of that! I'll be making a return visit soon!

Great food. And great service. The reviews in Sumter for other restaurants can be deceiving. But this place lived up to its good reviews. Easily the best food that we had while here.

This is my favorite restaurant in Sumter! Everything on the menu I have eaten is delicious! I always bring guests here and they enjoy the food, feel, and friendly staff. I highly recommend their burgers, southwest salad, and pimento cheese appetizer.

Our real-estate agent suggested this place to my family and I upon moving to Sumter, SC. This restaurant is one of the best restaurants in Sumter. The service is very friendly, the atmosphere is clean and homey, and most importantly the food is good. We have eaten here a few times and everything we have tried has been delicious. Their sandwiches are good, and most recently I tried their amazing Seafood Platter. I would highly suggest ordering their friend mac & cheese as a side, and they also just started serving sweet potato fries. :)

Stopped in with the wife for lunch. She had shrimp and grits, which were outstanding. I ordered the daily special which was, sad to say a once in a lifetime affair, a pork belly sandwich with smoked Gouda and preserves. It was on POINT. Wish they would have that on their menu more often.

Far and away, my favorite restaurant in Sumter. Don't let the fact that it is in a small strip mall throw you off. Every time my wife and I have gone to this restaurant over the past few years, we have not been disappointed. I'm glad that there is a good local restaurant like this, and we always try and bring our friends. We had a waitress challenge us to try the pimento cheese appetizer. She said that if we didn't like it, she'd buy it. She made a very safe bet. My wife doesn't like pimento cheese, and we both loved this (it does have bacon on it). As far as main meals, My personal favorite is the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich. My wife, who doesn't usually like hamburgers, likes the burgers here.

    (5)
  • Elisabel B.

I had the Loaded chicken it was really good. My first time eating "southern food" the mash potatoes were my favorite. The waiter was really nice, great customer service.

Fantastic lunch, she crab soup and shepherds pie... Priced right... Seafood was also good

  • Armand D.

I am downgrading to three stars because they have inexplicably stopped serving their sweet potato fries. They now serve sweet potato chips but they are not even in the same universe. Very disappointing and will probably tip the scales elsewhere for me when choosing a restaurant to eat at.

The food was fantastic! We had fried green tomatoes, shrimp and grits, and the loaded chicken biscuit. The half orders were plenty of food and had tons of flavor that left us feeling full of a hearty meal. The service was fast and friendly. Both the drinks and food were reasonably priced and it can't wait to return and explore the menu. My girlfriend and I both highly recommend this place for lunch or dinner! They are only open three or four days a week for dinner and close between lunch and dinner, so check their hours before you go!

Jalepeno hushpuppies with excellent honey butter were worth the trip. Waitress very pleasant and helpful

  • Jason G.

Food was awesome. Good prices for the amount of food you get with your order. We had a huge party and the service was fast for about 20 people. I would for sure go again. Staff was super friendly.

  • Terry L.

Great service and even better food. Had the shrimp and grits, was awesome. The fried green tomatoes were delescious.

While visiting Sumter, we were enticed by rave reviews on Yelp to try Simply Southern Bistro. Boy, we were not disappointed! From the warm welcome at the door to the friendly and efficient staff to the delicious food-- all made for a great dining experience. The menu boasts of a good selection of southern cuisine at very reasonable prices. We had the fried zucchini and squash, she crab soup, duck breast and salmon cake. All were super delish and would be worth a return trip.

  • Aaron Z.

Hushpuppies are the bomb! Pleasant surprise to find a restaurant like this in Sumter, I will return. They are not fast, so make sure you are not in a rush.

I just got finished eating here. There are some new items on the menu, all of which are great. The cheese grits are perfect and the portions of food are just right. I've eaten here on several occasions and have always gotten something different. I can't find anything to complain about. Even the prices are reasonable in my opinion and I'm not rich. Lets put it this way, the only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars is because I don't give anything a perfect score. But this comes darn close.

    (4)
  • Kenton G.

Was in the area for business. Saw the rave reviews and thought I would give it a try. I had the shrimp and grits. Amazing! The shriimp, sausage, grits, and special sauce work together so well. I wish I could have licked my plate, but didn't want to look silly. I am here for one more day and am definately tempted to go back to try the chicken and biscuits which was my second choice. Prices are great too.

We stumbled across simply southern bistro on road trip from Brooklyn to Miami. This was definitely one of the highlights on the road. We started with fried green tomatoes, which were excellent! The she crab soup was very good but the best item on the menu was the fried macaroni. Simply amazing! I don't normally eat fried food but these were beyond exceptional, they were delectable, light and ooey, gooey in the best way! We also ordered the grilled salmon, which was perfectly cooked, tender and juicy, full of flavor. The service was also very good, our server was a sweet, southern gentleman. If you're passing through or live near Sumter, you should definitely stop here!

Simply Southern Bistro is awesome! The grouper po boy was THE BEST fish sandwich I have ever had. Everything I've ever eaten here was tasty and fresh. The servers are friendly. The decor isn't anything fancy, but the food speaks for itself.

    (5)
  • Meg F.

Very tasty real Southern cooking at a reasonable price. 1/2 orders were a great choice. Found this on Yelp and was not disappointed.

    (5)
  • Matthew B.

Best steak in Sumter! Have dined several times and always received friendly service and great food. Try the shrimp & grits, cucumber salmon or ribeye. Don't be fooled by the strip mall exterior. There is a treasure inside!

    (5)
  • Jeff M.

Pretty amazing! Great service and food is top notch. I had the charleston chicken (chicken breast, served over cheese grits, with some amazing sauce and pieces of sausage) I ordered the half order and it was plenty of food to accommodate the jalapeño hush puppies with homemade honey butter! This is a must try!

  • Erich P.

OK food. And for Sumter not too bad. Hamptons is 10 times better. That said service is excruciatingly slow. Forget it if you have a party of more than 5

    (2)
  • J P.

I have long since learned that good grits cannot be had outside of the South. That being said, I had the shrimp and grits. In short...very good...real close to being great. I had the full order for dinner...quite frankly it was almost more food than one person should eat. Highly recommend. As an aside, I rated it a 5 because for Sumter SC, it doesn't get any better than this.

Food was very good=4. Service was lacking=2.5. We made reservations for 7ppl at 7pm on a Sat. night. Our table was available and we were seated immediately. Our waitress was pleasant but immediately informed us they were out of the She Crab Soup and Salmon. My father-in-law and 18you son were really counting on the soup--strike one. We placed our revised orders and our appetizers arrived in a timely manner. The fried green tomatoes and fried pickles were both very tasty. Then the wait began... It was almost 8pm by the time our entrees arrived. When the food did come from the kitchen, several of the orders were plated incorrectly. The waitress took them back to the kitchen to try and correct them and all but one came out correct. My 21yo had asked for fried shrimp to be sub'd for fried oysters, but the oysters were still on his plate. The waitress remedied this by bringing him a side of shrimp--what I expected. All-in-all, the food was all very good. No one had complaints except the mashed potatoes under my chicken and biscuit were cold. It tasted great though. If SSB stepped up the kitchen and service, this would be a 4+ dining experience.

  • Eric C.

Without a doubt this is the best meal I have had in the Sumter area. Honestly it ranks in the top 20 of my life (and I've been everywhere). The service is spot on. They are a very friendly and attentive team to take care of you. Prices are unbelievably low considering the quantity and quality you'll receive. Check it out for sure!

    (5)
  • Joanna B.

Simply Southern Bistro is one of Sumter's BEST places to eat. The prices are extremely reasonable and the food tastes devine. The 1/2 orders are just enough for someone with a smaller appetite. They are tucked away off the main road, and are only open Wed-Saturday for dinner, but it's so worth visiting. And try the dessert! The dessert menu rotates, but everything I've always had has been so good, including the lemon berry cake! YUM!

    (5)
  • Jenny A.

Host: Charming. Staff: Warm. Food: Delicious. I had the Gouda burger and my husband had the shrimp and grits. We're both new to The South and found the grits were much better than anything we've had in the past and the burger was in my top ten burger list of all time (yeah I have one of those).

    (5)
  • Bebs P.

Chicken and biscuit plate was great! Along with "fried" Mac and cheese (who would have known this is possible). Mahi magi was tender yet very salty. Beer selection was good. Service super.

  • Loren P.

Only eaten here once but was disappointed based on my coworkers reviews. My water glass had black specks in it. The food took a long time. Requested no bacon and onion on my sandwich and a coworker ordered the same but with all the toppings. When the sandwiches came out one had bacon, one had onion and when we asked the waitress which was which she said I don't know this isn't my table. We sent them back and it was obvious they took the bacon off my sandwich and put it on hers as my sandwich had half a strip of bacon still on it. I also ordered okra as my side but received fries and the waitress did not notice if fact we didn't see her for a while and they were not busy. BBQ chicken sandwich was not good chicken was just covered in a watery sauce that didn't taste like BBQ.

A true diamond in the rough and trust me Sumter can be rough. Looking past the rather plain exterior and getting to the food you will find a southern food experience that for the local fair is bar none. The Jalapeño Hushpuppies, Chicken Biscuits and Gravy and Sweet Potato Chips are all amazing options. Their chicken is cooked to a juicy, tender texture and is fantastic in all the dishes I have tried it in. Simply put if your in Sumter there is no better place to get a meal, especially at such a great price!

This is a small, intimate restaurant that is part of a small strip mall. It features southern food but is not country cooking. One of their features is their rotisserie chicken and they offer everything from traditionally southern shrimp and grits to rib eye to burgers topped with green tomatoes. Everything I've eaten has been good for both lunch and dinner. The prices are reasonable. It's one of my favorite places to take out of town guests and is a great, local date place.

Was searching for GOOD local restaurants in Sumter and happened across Simply Southern Bistro by chance. The service was great and the honesty about what the waiter liked in his own food was appreciated, although I didn't ask him to bash or recommend dishes he liked or disliked exactly. No bashing occurred probably because the food here is probably really good. I had a street named burger, which could benefit from some adjustments but was really good as is. The collard greens weren't piping hot but they weren't cold. The flavor of the greens was unique but not entirely unfamiliar. I waited until I almost finished them before adding the pepper sauce the waiter provided, but it wasn't much of an improvement over their already delightful taste. I could see adding a piece of fatback or some ham hocks to it, but maybe my serving was just unlucky and didn't have some in the bowl. Fried mac and cheese!!! Add some bacon and a sharper cheese flavor and I know folks would come just for that and some beers. Overall I'm very impressed for having one type of dish thus far from Simply Southern. I'll return, and I'll bring reinforcements with me.

Excellent shrimp and grits, very hospitable wait staff. The "half portion" shrimp and grits were so delicious and rich that it was almost too much for lunch. This place is well worth a visit.
