My wife and I stopped here after seeing the good reviews. The food was great. We got the 7.50 dinner special with fried chicken, broccoli casserole, Mac n cheese and sweet potato soufflé. Delicious! The waitresses were very friendly and fast. Very close to I-95 as well. I would definitely recommend this place for a quick bite to eat for you weary travelers.

I am not going to re-review the food, as there are many good reviews here of that. They have a counter, booths and tables and ample parking. They serve a main dish with sides at a very good price. The service can fast or slow depending on who is supervising at the time, but it is always friendly. "Everybody knows your name." Like many of the smaller food establishments in the area, they do not take cards; bring cash. AND, this is the Bible belt, folks. Just about everything is closed on Sundays, except for the chain stores right at the I-95 exits.

Some of the best fried chicken I've ever had! Also endless sweet ice tea. If driving along 95 South I highly recommend you make a 5 minute detour and try it out! If you love fried chicken its a must

This was a real find. It is located slightly off highway, but was way better than the chain highway food so prevalent these days. It is a mom and pop type of place. We found it using Yelp!! The place was clean, prompt courteous service, reasonable prices and the food was perfect. We had buttermilk pancakes with eggs and bacon. Once we sank out teeth into the eggs we knew they were the freshest around. Go here when traveling along 95. You will be tickled.

Great place to stop if you're going south on 95. Church St. was the old highway to Florida until I-95 killed the town. We had a classic diner breakfast with flaky biscuits and creamy grits. Way better than a fast food chain. And great Southern hospitality with plenty 'o coffee refills.

Recently, we drove down to FL. As is our habit when planning road trips, I consulted "Road Food" by Jane and Michael Stern. I was looking for possible places to have a meal with the criteria that they must be off I-95 and easy to find. My search led us to try The Summerton Diner, as it is easy to find (I-95 exit 108 in SC). We were here on a Tuesday between 2-3 p.m. Certainly, we would have preferred to eat at a later time but, since we wanted to try this place, we had to seize the moment. When we arrived, we were told to sit wherever we wanted, so we chose a booth by a window. As "Road Food" mentioned---and I quote---"...the diner has the feel of an ageless eatery; well worn Formica counter..." Yes, it has seen better days but it is clean, as evidenced by the "A" grade posted on the front door by the Health Department. "Road Food" recommended ordering from the daily special menu, and that's what we did. When we were there, the daily specials were chicken livers, meat loaf and chicken pot pie. I chose the chicken pot pie while my husband chose the meat loaf. Each meal comes with 3 sides that are listed on the daily special menu. We both chose as our sides, mashed potatoes with gravy, okra with stewed tomatoes and blackeyed peas. I had a sweet tea to drink while my husband had a soda. The staff here is very friendly and treats newcomers as well as they treat the locals---and lots of locals come here, as we noticed that the staff knew them by name. The chicken pot pie obviously was baked in a large baking pan and portions got scooped out onto a plate. As a result, there were pieces of crust along with the pot pie filling. My husband's meat loaf portion was very generous. I liked the chicken pot pie as it had a great homemade flavor to it. My husband also really enjoyed his meat loaf. Also, each meal comes with homemade biscuits. We got there just as a fresh batch came out of the oven---and they were amazing---light and fluffy! We had to resist filling up on them! As for the sides---the mashed potatoes and gravy (brown gravy) were great. The potatoes had that homemade look and taste plus they were creamy and the gravy had full-bodied flavor. We both raved about the okra with stewed tomatoes! The stewed tomatoes consisted of large chunks of tomatoes and added a touch of sweetness to the okra. The blackeyed peas were flavored with bits of pork plus green beans which added a nice flavoring. The daily special also includes dessert. The day we were there, the dessert choices were either soft serve vanilla ice cream or pineapple pudding. We both chose the ice cream which was served in a chilled cup and was creamy with nice vanilla flavoring. I must say that "Road Food" has never steered us wrong through the years. Every place we've tried has stood out so much that to this day, we remember each and every place we tried (less than ten to be exact). The Summerton Diner was also well worth the stop! Now...the downside. They don't have a website and nowhere on line could I find their hours. "Road Food" says they're closed on Thursdays and recent Yelp reviews say they're closed on Sundays. Even more frustrating---there is no sign on the door listing their hours. So, if you plan to stop in, be sure to give them a call to see if they are open. Also, they are cash only. In total, before the tip, our check was $19 + change. Should we do another road trip through these parts, you can be sure we'll stop in again!

Amazing place to stop along the 95 corridor!!! My partner and I each order the Saturday night dinner special for $7.50 which included a meat entree, three sides, a basket of breads, and a dessert. I got the beef tips, fried okra, mac n cheese, greens, cornbread, and peach crisp. He got the red chicken stew, greens, beans, another side that i forget, biscuits, and peach crisp. Everything was really good, especially cornbread, biscuits, greens, mac and cheese, and the peach crisp. It was an AWESOME deal for all of that food! The food was great for the price--and let me emphasize for the price. The beef tips gravy was a little cornstarch-y. The fried okra was OK. The service was excellent--server and host were very sweet. It looks like the place hasn't changed since the 50s, and it's possible that it hasn't according to the history of the diner, which was written on the menu. My partner and I travel via car a lot for both work and fun, and we loathe fast food, so this was a great gem to discover while driving from FL to Maryland.

If you are anywhere near Summerton on I95 near a meal time, a stop at Summerton Diner is well worth it. Note that they only take cash and are closed on Sunday. Go for the lunch or dinner special. Great southern cooking and hospitality for under $8!

Great little diner not far from I-95. We had the lunch special and it was delicious. The waitresses are friendly and keep your sweet tea glasses filled. Take the time to stop by when passing through Summerton on I-95, you will be glad you did.

Excellent experience. I am a food snob; my husband is a chef, but for Southern food, it was great. I ate the red chicken stew with rice, the fresh collard greens, baby peas, macaroni casserole, cornbread muffins and peach cobbler--all for $7.50. The portions were huge and the food was fresh. Amazing for a little place off the beaten path!

While travelling in our rv , we love to try mom and pop places. Wanted to eat dinner here but we were not coming through at the right time. So we got up early and went for breakfast. I had fried egg, country ham and hash browns and a biscuit. The biscuit was obviously homemade , but not that great...sorry, grandma. I was disappointed to hear that they deep fry their potatoes. I like them pan fried on the griddle with onions. I think a real country cookin place would take the extra effort to do that. Hubby got sausage gravy, which was really bland. Waitress was very nice and the place seemed clean. Everyone knew everyone and it was cozy. If we were in the area at the right time, I would love to try lunch or dinner and see what the veggies are like. But for breakfast...we will keep on truckin'.

So this is less a review and more a tip that I couldn't find anywhere else, we were driving from Charleston to Raleigh and were lured here by the great reviews, pulled in... CLOSED SUNDAY. :( I had tried to look for the hours online and didn't see them anywhere, so FYI, they're closed all day Sunday. Hopefully you'll get to taste their yummyness. The building looked clean and very small towny.

An ideal southern diner, the ladies here fill your sweet tea as fast as you can drink it. The daily specials offer great deals, and the the fried chicken is definitely not something you want to miss. The biscuits are some of the most authentic I've ever had, excelling in taste and texture. I'd definitely recommend this place to any hungry travelers on I-95 craving some deep fried comfort, as their food is simple and done well. Keep in mind they only take cash.

Delicious creamed corn (made with fresh corn - makes all the difference), fritters, and fried fish. Order the daily special and you'll get a meat/fish plus three vegetables, plenty of bread, tea, and a homemade seasonal dessert for less than $7. Dang! Easy to find off of I-95.

This is one of the Local Jewels in South Carolina... its an establishment that has been apart of the Summerton Landscape since about 1914 or so... the service is always friendly, the Food is always home cooked and has a flavor that is in the generally medium to neutral so it fits most of the general palets from old to young. The only thing that I might say would be on the slightly negative side are some of their desserts, referecing the pies, which seem to be generic... but they have some good cakes... their cheesburgers, for those who enjoy that, are very tasty and taste right off the grill.. Overall I would rate this place highly as does AAA which I believe has it listed as a reccomended stop...all in all this a great place to stop!!
