Maurice’s BBQ Piggie Park Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

My wife and I shared a Chicken and Pork combo and a Ribs and Brisket combo so we could get a taste of everything Maurice's had to offer. Overall, the food was okay and we'd probably look for a different BBQ joint in the area if that's what we were craving. === THE GOOD === - Mustard-Based Sauce. Hands-down this is the best mustard-based BBQ sauce we've ever had, and we've had quite a few! === THE BAD === - Pricey. Most BBQ places have much lower prices than Maurice's. It was a bit on the expensive side for what you get. - Sauce Options. Although the mustard-based sauce makes you not crave other sauces, if you're looking for something else, you have VERY limited options.

DON'T EAT HERE. The bbq pork was a pureed mush served over rice. The potato salad was dried out. The chicken club sandwich = fried breaded filet + 1 slice American cheese + 1 slice of fried bacon in 3 separate curls + a hamburger bun. Edible, yes. What I expected, not at all. 2 17yo boys didn't like anything ordered, and they like absolutely everything. Mac n cheese was "awful". Daughter's chicken sandwich was a fried breaded filet, so thin that chicken was all but indiscernible. The floor was sticky everywhere. Outside dining accommodation were a single cramped picnic table next to a trash can and cigarette butt receptacle, apparently for employees not patrons. I'm pretty sure the Cracker Barrel within walking distance serves BBQ, and it guarantees to be better. NO STARS (but yelp requies at least one)

Why Maurice's BBQ Piggie Park has a 4 star rating on Yelp confounds me. It is the worst BBQ experience I've ever had. And I'm not nitpicking here... lets go through the sins committed during during the EPIC SHITSHOW.. Mac n' Cheese with unmelted cheese and mushy overcooked noodles.Oh and come on, how's about just a LITTLE bit of salt? Pepper maybe? Flavor? Pulled Pork sammich so dry that even after pouring a quarter of their "special sauce" - which hilariously they bottle sell in expensive boxes - still left me chocking on this dried up pork. I can make better, moister pulled pork without even smoking it. The bun should be toasted and buttered was just a plain toasted on a brill bun and why no crunchy slaw? After 2 bites, I was done. Slaw that tasted like relish and looked like green goop. Under-fried Hush-Puppies. Still liquid in the middle. What the fuck? I tasted the food from the others at my table. The insanely overcooked dog was so salty I felt my arteries harden and clog after one bite. The ribs are so tasteless and bland that even the mix of mustard and relish Maurice's BBQ Piggie Park calls BBQ sauce couldn't save them. French fries - only freshly cooked item served - came from a bag of frozen fries. Hell, even the soda fountain was improperly calibrated. Oh and did I mention the table, booths and floors were sticky, the ceiling atmosphere conditioners outlets were so dirty I was afraid of getting infected with spores. To eat there is to encourage, to enable the grotesques atrocities that stain self-respecting BBQ joints.

The brisket and Mac n cheese was good. They were out of chicken. The ribs were boiled and tasted like a dirty sponge. Staff was semi friendly, but not very professional. The seating area was limited. An area of seats was sectioned off to keep people from sitting there. Another section of booths had cushioned seats and no backs. The bathroom was ok. The staff did wish us a nice day as we left. I do like their mustard base bbq sauce.

This location does not represent Maurice's well at all. I believe that they truck it in from Columbia, SC and re-heat it, which explains how dried out it is. The BBQ meat was nice and smoky but that is the best I can say for it. The drinks were way too sugary and the fries were way too salty. The help is not friendly and very slow, even with no customers. The prices are very high.

Everything is cooked w the original mustard sauce. You can add any sauce you want but why would you add the red sauce to a mustard sauce??? The most unfriendly cashier I have ever met in my life. Cooking staff was nice & courteous. Items on the menu no longer available but still offered. The side are cup size portion that leads you to believe that it would be a cup size but no... how about 4 oz!!! If that large. Chickens fingers over cooked & much more breading than chicken. Overall the worst BBQ experience ever! Mac & cheese wasn't even good! We were a party of five & the Beef brisket & fries were the only edible portion of the meal.

I was not impressed with Maurice's bbq what so ever. For being right off of 95 I can't believe the owners of this chain keep the facility in the condition it's in. The building looks like it's been abandon. The inside is no better. The prices I though we're fair, but the bbq was horrible. They have multiple sauces to choose from out by the drink station so I was under the impression you could pick one, but much to my dismay they bring out the bbq drowning in their mustard sauce. I felt like I was eating a bottle of yellow mustard sauce. I also had the Mac n cheese and baked beans which both I was not impressed with. The hush puppies were good, but did have a lot of onion in them. I was ready to leave this place, and when we did all the employes were huddled around the front door smoking. 95 offers a ton of other food options to choose from so do yourself a favor and find somewhere else.

Food was ok. Brisket dry. Good okra. The white bread dinner roll was right out of a bag from the grocery store. In terms of decor , the place is in serious need of a make over. It cost $31 for my wife and me. I'm glad I tried it but next time we'll go next do to Cracker Barrel.

Southern ribs delicious, onion rings slamming, what a nice option to drive through and get a decent meal to take back to your hotel room instead of that fast food garbage out there!! Yes it is a mustard barbecue sauce and it's delicious. Cole slaw was eh ... Looking forward to my next trip through to try some more variety:)

The claim here is that it is famous. What makes it that way? My experience is terrible service, an extremely over priced menu and lousy food. If I could have given this less than 1 star I would have.

Unique mustard-based BBQ! You have to taste this with an open mind. It is different from traditional BBQ, but very good in its own way. I like it!

I got the brisket sandwich basket. Meat was dry and a little tough. Not much Smokey flavor. Mustard bbq sauce wasnt bad but they put it in a separate container. Being that the meat was on the dry side I would have prefered a larger portion of bbq saucesonce its not included on the sandwich. I got the beans as a side , unique flavor I was reminded of peppered beef jerky. Fries and hushpuppy also came with the basket , I didn't eat the hush puppy it was to dark for my liking. Fries were fresh. Plenty of food to fill me up. Customer service wasn't great but it by no means were they rude. The actual location is rough looking if I had gone inside I probably would have skipped. I figured YOLO!

I Like Maurice's Barbeque. The mustard sauce gives it a yellow appearance and a different flavor. I think it is unique to South Carolina. The sides are very nice, I always love hush puppies. The format is sort of fast food like here. That makes sense, it appears it was formerly a fast food restaurant of some type previously. They also serve many travelers on 95, who want to eat quickly and resume their trip.

Really good BBQ Brisket, and ribs, the place looks kind of weird and unfinished, the staff is not the nicest, but not rude at all..... but don't let that fool you, the kitchens is really clean and the food is really good, hushpuppies are awsome........ you must have the banana puding...... freshly made when i ordered, really good.....

Where to start? Out of slaw and Mac n cheese when order was placed. Should've left then. We traveled many miles out of our way to eat here. Food at piggy park in Columbia always excellent. Wasn't coming that way this trip. I ordered the rib and chicken plate, husband got the sampler platter. Add some sauces to take home, bill over $50. Chicken and ribs were cold. Brought back, employee reheated in microwave in front of me. Nothing else "hot" she could swap it for. Microwaved BBQ???? Give me a break. Chicken and ribs tasted old and rubbery. We were charged extra for white meat we never received. I will NEVER eat here again!!! What a letdown!!!

This little joint is like a fast food place. It's right off of I95. It looks like it was another fast food place before but, no updating has been done. It's pretty much an ugly ole dive. On the positive side, the service was helpful and friendly. However, I was very disappointed in the food. It seems like the food is prepped somewhere else and it comes in to be heated up or something. Nothing seemed like it was grilled or smoked there. This is notmy idea of good BBQ. The pork meat itself was dry. It was tossed in a good BBQ sauce but, it didn't improve it at all. The lemonade was way too sweet. Hush puppies were ok and the coleslaw was sour not sweet&sour or sweet. The chicken tasted like it was boiled then tossed in sauce. The rice with hash was the best item that we tried. The prices seemed high for the quality and kind of place that it was. There are other BBQ places where the food is better and cooked right for the same price

My husband and I stopped here for lunch on our way to charleston. It is off I-95 and the garmin guided us to it on our quest for some quick food. We both had the same thing: BBQ sandwich, Cole slaw, fries and lemonade (we ordered the Little Joe basket, to be precise). Not the cheapest of places, our order was over $20. The BBQ was good, but I quickly got tired of its tangy taste about half way into the sandwich. Fries were soggy as hell. I ate one of them (what a waste). The coleslaw was very good IMO, had a little oomph given by a little horseradish in the dressing. My husband hated it, only because he's not a fan of horseradish. The lemonade was off the chain. Delish and sweet. It is not a place I would stop for again. You cannot claim to be an award winner and then not live up to you name.

I have been to Maurices 3 times now driving South on 95 Their BBQ with mustard sauce is awful Can not tell if it is pork or cardboard I love all kinds of BBQ but that was dreadful I honestly could not eat the sandwich Threw it away Their ribs are good BUT my wife will not let me go back again because of all of the racial stuff they used to have Amazing , but the first time we went - they were actually flying a rebel flag which you could see from the highway So i had to see what kind of place it was Had the ribs which i liked but did not care for the atmosphere which had all fo this conferate soldier stuff They no longer have the confederate flag but the BBQ is enough to keep me away from there

No. Just, no. I'm no BBQ connoisseur but the yellow death that was served on my food made it nearly inedible. The worst part of the "experience" was the restaurant itself. I just hope I'm current on my tetanus shot.

Northbound on Interstate 95 on a Friday afternoon, we had driven over 500 miles and were looking for a BBQ place to eat dinner. We had our dog with us so we needed a place with outside tables. They had 2 small cement ones but no outside service so you have to order to go to use them. The menu read "cooked over hickory coals for 24 hours". I saw no sign of a grill or smoke so I think the meat is cooked somewhere else and brought in. It took several tries to get the lady taking orders to understand if they would put the meals on the plastic plates they use and on a tray, I would take it outside my self and return her tray. There was a garbage can next to the outside tables for trash. We both ordered the BBQ Beef Brisket Dinner 11.95ea ( a3 ). Very dry and not fresh. No smoke flavor. Large fries 2.95 ( a2 ). Soggy, also not fresh. Banana pudding 3.45 ( a2 ) Came out of cooler. Bananas in it were turning dark ( old ). No next time here!!

While at the visitor center on the border of NC & SC a staff member recommended this BBQ place to me. So off we went searching for Santee then driving around looking for the funny pig sign. Look behind the Burger King and you will find it. My thoughts were that I would be entering a family run restaurant with the BBQ pit in back with the smell of smoke all over the place. This place is an old fast food joint that's a bit run down. Oh well we are here so we are going to try it out, the nice bored girls behind the counter took our order. The food was okay, I thought I was going to have an amazing BBQ experience, but that didn't happen.

It's such a convenient stop for us on I-95, we usually stop here anytime we are on a long trip. The bbq sauce is very different than any other I've had, but I love mustard! The free bottle of sauce is a pleasant surprise you get when you spend more than $50... which we always do!

Run away from this place! I'm driving to my Moms house in Florida with the kids so they can spend a few weeks in the sun. Of course I hear: We're hungry from the back seat! I see signs on 95S Maurice's BBQ 20 miles Maurice's BBQ 10 miles Maurice's BBQ 5 miles Now I'm working myself up to frenzy. I picture in my mind, they killed a fresh pig and I'm going to BBQ heaven! I pull into the parking lot with my NY license plates and I'm ready for BBQ!!! I lived in Memphis for almost two years so I know the real deal. My kids are rattling off what they want and I place my order. When I start to look around I noticed we're not in Kansas anymore...... I see the sauce bottles with confederate flags. Books like: "Myths & Realities of American Slavery." WTF!!!! I thought this was a joke, I expected someone with a video camera to come out like I was punked!! No joke, these clowns are for real. The food comes out and my kids are making faces. Whats the problem you ask? Everything and I do mean everything is covered in mustard!! DOUBLE WTF? I go back to the desk, yeah we use a mustard based sauce on our BBQ. This is something I never heard of in my life, I asked them to swap out my 10 year olds food with PLAIN chicken fingers and I dealt with the mess of mustard on my BBQ plate. I had mustard under my nails, on my teeth. Why. Why would anyone use this junk when there is a sweet BBQ sauce from North Carolina? Yuck man.. When you see this place on 95, keep driving.

I LOVE SC barbeque! This location is right off of I-95 and very convenient to travelers like me. I was able to easily pick up frozen bbq to take home to NC. I was very pleased with the meal I ate on-site and the food when I got home hours later. I would go here often if it was near by.

This is a must stop when traveling along I-95 for us. The beef brisket is so moist and so good get it before they run out, also the pulled pork sandwhich and the hash, the hash is so darn great ... the best stuff you'll ever get.

"EEGAD !!"....I'll get to the food, but when you walk into this joint, the first thing that you run into is a room full of propaganda about the Southern Confederate way of life, as Maurice sees it. As a northerner, I found it somewhat offensive yet somewhat humorous. In this guy's mind he is still fighting the Civil War...so.. if you stop for BBQ,.. be prepared for this. The food...As far as a SC mustard based BBQ, it's pretty darn good! I've had the pulled pork, ribs, baked beans and slaw ,all good. They have a buffet, which I have never partaken of. I have been there a few times at different times of the day and evening and it is never really overly crowded. the people who work there are pleasant and helpful and you can always purchase to go orders as well as bottles of the mustard based sauce. Upon further research, as one of the other scriveners opined, Maurice has made the news pretty often as a result of his views. It is my understanding that several food stores have ceased selling his sauces because he puts a Confederate flag on the bottle. Personally, I think that's kinda small (since they lost), but I understand the angst that it may cause. The Place is very convenient off of the Santee exit of I-95. I would probably give this place more stars based on the BBQ, but the entire package won't allow this in my mind.

It's not the absolute best, but it will hit the spot. For the yanks they pass through come with an open mind. This is south carolina mustard based sauce. Ignorance to the traditional local type of BBQ is no reason to write a poor review.

For the first time ever, I'm actually reconsidering a previous Yelp on the same chain, but a different location. I had tried a Maurice's BBQ just outside of Columbia, SC about a little over a year ago, and I was gravely disappointed. The neon yellow mustard on my BBQ pulled pork sandwich looked as bad as it tasted. Under any other circumstances, I'd have never returned. Adding to this, I learned of Mr. Maurice's personal political policies, and while normally that wouldn't be a deterrent, it solidified another reason why I wouldn't try his product again. Well, I'm not a gambling man, so I'll be the first to admit that today while traveling down I-95, I spotted this mecca on a road sign and I pulled in, more or less as a prank on my wife. The joke was on me. We ordered the 1/4 chicken (dark) combo and while it was supposed to come with french fries, they gave us the Carolina Hash over Rice. This was an excellent mistake. While it was greasy, it was tasty. The chicken was covered with the aforementioned neon yellow mustard BBQ sauce. I had to laugh at first, but after the second bite I decided that it was far from horrible. The chicken was a little dry, but otherwise it was good! The mustard-based sauce wasn't overpowering and it was actually....good! My wife was a little less impressed. I had also ordered another BBQ sandwich, and it was not loaded up with the neon yellow sauce as my last experience was, and due to the lesser amount of sauce being on the sandwich, it was actually good! I'm speechless and shocked. I had become accustom to both Texas and Carolina-style BBQ, and this was uniquely foreign. It was a shock to see it the first time, and I'm sure that my first experience was still legit in the review, as the food was still not great. This second time, the food was better, less mustard sauce (which I think was key) and the mistake of not giving us french fries proved to be a winning combination. Not all Carolina-style BBQ is vinegar based. As someone mentioned before, be open minded to this mustard-based sauce. You won't be disappointed. The service wasn't great, but the food made up for it, and I actually went against my normal stance on bad service to redeem them on their product. They screwed up my order, but for the best. I would try them again, and maybe only this location in the future. A Columbia, SC friend of mine was defending this local favorite at my scoffs, but I have to call him and tell him he was right.

Mustard on my BBQ?!? Who does that? This place should warn you about their sauce before you buy.

On the way South, Doug introduced us to Maurice's BBQ. If you like trying different styles of BBQ this is definitely a spot to stop and enjoy a pork BBQ sandwich! It's not the usual tomato or vinegar based style so its interesting how the mustard adds just little something extra to enjoy. Will remember exit 98 on 95S!!

good food. Had pulled pork sandwich w/ fixins. I'd recommend it to anyone. Franchise BBQ but def. worth ur time. Must like mustard based BBQ Sauce. It's unusual if you're not used to it but I like mustard on my Q so having it in the sauce just saves time. I say try it and be ur own judge. I would never take a New Yorkers word for what good Q is. Even if you did live in MEM which is where I lived once too. I was born and raised all over the south and i can tell you that there are many more than just 1 kind of Q.

Went there a few weeks ago on the way to FL. Brisket was dry as one of the other reviews stated but it had such a good flavor I didn't care. I liked the spicy mustard sauce but it could have been hotter for me, but I'm used to hot Thai food which average folk would run crying from. The main thing to get here is the onion rings and the lemonade - they are to DIE for! I could have made a meal on nothing but the onion rings covered with the spicy mustard sauce. Miss either one at your peril! As bomb as the lemonade is, I really wish they had a home made Limeade too. It's hard to find that anymore. Got the BBQ hash to go and had it a few mornings later in Florida with some fried free-range eggs from home and an English muffin...and it was very, very yummy. One last thought: don't change a thing out front Maurice - if the liberals and carpetbaggers don't like it, they are free to head back UP NORTH.

We made a pit-stop here because it was right off I-95, and we wanted BBQ. My friend is allergic to shellfish (iodine in the sauces), so she had banana pudding, mac & cheese (not bad) and onion rings (which were cold). I had a medium-sized pulled pork BBQ sandwich and hushpuppies (which were also cold and doughy-undercooked, maybe?). I was unsure what I was in for with a mustard-based sauce (it's pretty much yellow), but it didn't taste as mustardy as I thought it would. If I were hungry and saw Maurice's, I'd stop again, but wouldn't go out of my way for it. The staff was really friendly though.

We love bbq, and have passed this place en route to SC many times. We happened to stop by yesterday at lunchtime and was pleasantly surprised by the food, although what I've read about the owner is odd (more on that later). The service was great--very friendly service. We didn't know what to get, so we got the combo as suggested by the cashier (enough for 2 people!). $20, +$1 for white meat chicken + 2 teas. It was actually enough for at least 3 hungry people. Ribs (3): half and half--half of each were falling-off-the-bone tender, but half dry and chewy Chicken: mustard sauce dry cooked. Good, but a little dry Pulled Pork: mustard sauce; slightly sweet, but incredible, especially when made into a sandwich with the biscuit Biscuit: see above Slaw: slightly sweet with a hint of cinnamon Hush Puppies: incredible. Not too sweet, good onion flavour, melted in the mouth Beans: good, a little sweet Mac & Cheese: average Fries: average Hash & Rice: incredible. I don't personally like hash because of the texture and appearance, but my husband loves it. I ate more than a few bites. Ambiance: we sat in the front near the cashier; lots of literature about the "true" southern heritage. If I hadn't googled the owner and his beliefs, I might go back. That said, it was the best hash I ever had.

I love serendipity. "I need to go potty now!" "OK. Look at the signs on the side of the road. If you see a place where you want me to stop for your potty, yell." As silence overtook my car for a few moments, I spotted a huge billboard with that caught my eye... "Maurice's BBQ. Award winning recipe." Ut oh...I thought....another tourist trap. But it was the only thing different than the dozens of Burger Kings, McDonalds, Cracker Barrels, etc. "Who wants BBQ?" Unsynchopated mumblings and grunts. "OK. I will drive by that place first and check it out. If it is a dive we will go to Cracker Barrel." More grumblings and grunts. But not a "NO" was spoken. So off we went to Exit 98 on I-95 I drove by. It looked like an old drive through burger place built in the 60's that seen better days. The old style architecture was still in place....just fresh paint that boasted "Maurice's BBQ....Award winning." Well my kid had to go......so I stopped and let her go in. Worst case I would buy just one sandwich to pay for the facility stop. I was greeting by a very friendly but straight forward graying mature lady who could tell I was a first timer. Before I knew it, she was offering samples of their BBQ, free. I took the bait. I found out that Maurice's dad formulated a secret recipe and passed it down (what recipe isn't secret btw?) They still make things like they did 50 years ago. Wow. The samples tasted great....I passed it around to my kids....and they gave it the thumbs up. So $61 later I had 6 meals and drinks for everyone. And if you spend more than $50, you get a free bottle of their BBQ sauce. Wow thanks. This is how the food came out... 1. The sauce: This is South Carolina BBQ sauce which is mustard base. One of my daughter's hates mustard....but when she tried it, she liked it enough to get a BBQ sandwich with it. That is how good it was. For a mustard based sauce this was truly excellent. Tangy mustard taste that wasn't too sharp and overwhelming. Many other spices in this concoction. On the sweet side. Bold but complemented the meat and you can still taste the difference between pork and chicken and beef. 5 stars 2. Ribs: Done very well. Meat was tender and was able to be pulled off the bone, but it wasn't mushy and overcooked. Done just about right. Rudy's in Albuquerque still has this place beat on ribs. 4 stars. 3. Chicken: Done nearly perfectly. Meat was moist and tender, not over or undercooked. Chicken was a little on the small size. 4 stars 4. Beef brisket: Done extremely well, tender but with some body. Was well liked by my family member. 4 stars 5. Onion rings: The big ones out of real onions, looked like hand dipped and deep fried. Excellent and tender. Slightly on the greasy side but still tasty. 4 stars 6. Hush puppies: One of the best if not the best hush puppies I or my family has ever had. That good. Deep fried so crunchy on the outside and tender and moist on the inside...like cake. But the seasonings were just fabulous. Most hush puppies are bland and seasoned lightly. This one stood out and I could have eaten a basket of these things. Perfect. 5 stars 6. Cole slaw: Better than most. Very flavorful and stood out on it's own. 4 stars. 7. Carolina hash: This is shredded pork with sauce placed over white rice. This turned out great. This is considered a side dish....so what a bonus if you like BBQ. If you like a mustard based, Carolina style BBQ, you will be coming back to this place again and again. This is a chain of about 14 stores throughout South Carolina. For being a few hundred yards off of I-95, this is a 5 star BBQ place. You will never find better quality food just off any Interstate in this country. This is a must stop if you drive past Exit 98 on I-95. Don't snack or get something else to eat if you are within 200 miles of this place. I am so glad this time we had to take that potty break.
