It was ok nothing special. My husband got the smoked brisket which tasted like pot roast it didn't taste like it was smoked. but it was tasty. The casserole of the day was broccoli which was good-- broccoli and cheese with a bread crumb topping. The soup of the day was corn and shrimp chowder. There was plenty of corn and potatoes in it, but not a single shrimp in my bowl. It was better than the fast food options but nothing special.

We stopped here on the way to Florida. Were expecting a mid to upscale lunch experience compared with options around, which were all fast food. The place is nice, but we ordered the fried chicken (supposedly the house specialty) and it was a terrible experience. They didn't tell us that it was going to take "about 30 min" until after we had complained. 45 min later, 2 orders of 1/4 chicken came out. One dark and the other white meat (we had ordered 2 white meat), and they were greasy and tasteless. Moreover, they had less meat than a small pigeon. My wife's salad was decent enough, but if you are ever here: don't order the fried chicken. You will be much better off at Boston Market, for that money. A total waste of very precious time in a very long road trip.

I gave this place two stars for it's throwback look of country Inns of yesteryear. The food was honestly some of the worst I've ever had. I foolishly asked if I could request a temp on my pork tenderloin!! OMG!! It came out somehow over cooked and cold at the same time. The spiced apples were canned and stauffers spinach casserole would have been an improvement on their "homemade" version. How the sweet potato was scalding hot while the rest of the dish barely tepid I'll never know....they must have been microwaved at different times!

Stayed here last night. While the room itself is dated and so appears dingy, it was clean and basic. The restaurant is worth it. Good good, friendly staff. Try the million dollar bread! Would definitely stay at hotel again and eat at restaurant.

Party of 14 with dinner reservations. One waitress. Several dinners were not even warm. Food was marginal at best. Very disappointing as we have been here in past years with good results.

I went to Clark's this past Sunday. David was my server. I told him a was stuck between two choices, and ask his opinion. He never told me but brought the surprise dish to my table. Charming, knowledgable and attentive! Food was wonderful, service was great, atmosphere was delightful! Thank you for a memorable evening!

Honestly the best place to eat in the area. The food was good, nothing award worthy, but satisfying. It was well prepared and came out quickly. The portions were huge, so I suggest ordering one entree for two people. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Overall a good experience.

I am basing my review on two experiences at Clark's in December. Stopped here en route on I-95 and like many others here on Yelp, was choosing to stop here over your standard fast-food chains for a true "break" and "good meal" to satisfy on our long commute. First visit was for a late lunch (we arrived around 2 p.m.) and the atmosphere was nice (really homey), the server was attentive and the menu had a lot to offer. I went for the Angus Burger and it was wonderful. A nice fresh taste with good seasonings and was filling, but not overwhelming. Much better than you could have gotten at any drive-thru along the highway. This experience would have left me giving Clark's a solid four stars. Fast forward to the second visit...we arrived just before 11 a.m. on a Sunday and I was assuming we would get to have brunch (like most normal restaurants). However, I was sorely disappointed. We were seated with four menus...three for breakfast (which my other three dining companions wanted) and one for lunch (score!...or so I thought...). The waitress said she needed to take the menu because it wasn't lunch time yet. Knowing how close we were to 11 a.m., I asked when lunch would be served and she said 11 a.m., but that the entire table had to order the same type of meal (um, WHAT?!?! What kind of Southern hospitality is THAT?!?!?). So, I acquiesced since the other three in my party wanted breakfast, but was still perplexed. I thought I would see if I could wait to order until 11 a.m., but that wasn't possible. So, I ordered the French Toast, which was fine...just not what I was hoping for/in the mood for (I am not a HUGE breakfast person). Other tables seated at 11:01 a.m. were disappointed we had breakfast and they were offered the lunch menu with a series of Sunday specials (oddly enough, with the first two on the list being breakfast egg items!!! How can that be that someone could order an omelet off that page at the same table as someone else ordered a chicken dish???). The service was much slower this time around and I didn't leave with the warm and fuzzy feeling about this place as I did the first time. With all of that...I can only give this an A-OK rating...it seems hit/miss and as one of the only reasonable speed and priced non-fast-food options on I-95, I would imagine I could be back...just know that I'll have to time things around the strict (although confusing) menu time rules...

We were unable to stay here because it was booked, so I am ONLY reviewing the restaurant. I ordered the Clark's Carolina Sampler with scrambled eggs, potatoes, and bacon. It was a massive amount of food. They originally left the fried apples that comes with it off my plate and I casually mentioned it to my dining companion. One of the waitresses overheard and immediately returned with the apples, apologetically. I don't know why I bothered saying anything, because there was no way I was going to be able to eat all the food I'd been served. I remember wishing I'd ordered just the fried green tomatoes and biscuits & gravy because the tomatoes were divine and served with some kind of fruit chutney. The eggs were kind of dry and the potatoes were just potatoes, but the sugar cured bacon was delicious and the biscuits were homemade, fluffy symbols of the south. The service was good, though our waitress was new, everyone else seems like they've been there a long time. It's right off I-95 if you need a break from the road.

Maybe just 2 stars, but the place is charming. Staff was friendly, but waiter was borderline incompetent. We were the first table in one of the overflow areas and it was like someone forgot to tell the waiter we were there. Then he kept forgetting about us. The interior is charming, different, with a relaxing upscale atmosphere. Hostess saw things weren't going right and tried to make up for it, but fell short as we had to ask for refills of water, drinks, bread, etc. Had to remind waiter what we asked for. And it was pricey. And the food was decidedly mediocre. Lobster bisque not only didn't have lobster, it didn't even taste like a lobster had been within a mile of it. The signature "Famous" roast chicken was so overcooked and dry I had to smear cranberry sauce all over it to help it slide down my throat. Sauteed vegetables seemed to be from a steamer bag, not a pan. The cheese biscuit things were fairly tasty. I didn't taste it, but was told the stir-fry was pretty good.

David in the bar was very attentive and helpful. Food overall good particularly the prime burger special. Beer very cold! Enjoyed sitting in the bar - cannot speak to the other rooms.

Sat at the bar for dinner, server was very good, food was really good a little on the expensive side. But for the area there's not much to choose from and since there was a lot of people parked in the parking lot figured it had to be pretty good. Would go there again.

Food was better than the standard roadside options. Inn was charming and a nice place to grab dinner and drinks to break up a long drive. The best part was meeting David, the bartender. We had a lot of laughs and great conversation. He was great to serve us even though it was close to closing time. Eat at the bar :-)

Nice looking place but overpriced. Paid $14 for a rubbery chicken sandwich. The blackened tuna was good. Glass of wine and a beer.$69!

We've stopped here for over twenty years, en-route from NC/Va/MA to Florida...even back before I-95 was open through this area....and it's always been great. The first stop here was in the late 1970's and, when a bellman knocked on the room door in the morning with a pot of coffee and a newspaper...we were floored....and hooked. We've enjoyed their seafood and country cooking for years; but, this visit was our first for their lunch buffet. Absolutely everything on the buffet was "world-class"....including the best fried chicken I've ever had...(all those other spots I rated as #1 or #2 just fell a ranking!)....and the veggies could make you weep....didn't even try the breads or the desserts and we STILL left with permanent smiles. If you like food, southern cooking may win the trophy yet....and it'll be Clarks leading the way!

This was my fourth (or so) visit to Clark's. I first stopped here a few years ago travelling from the DC area back to Florida. It was a Sunday evening, and I knew if I wanted a meal, as opposed to a fast-food place, I'd better hit someplace before 8pm rolled around. Glad I stopped where I did. Clark's is most assuredly NOT a chain, and NOT a fast-food place. The food is a tad on the pricey side, but it's all very tasty. There are two or three dining rooms, as well as an outside patio, and a bar area. The server we had tonight was youngish, and didn't seem to know the wine list very well, but we knew what we wanted, and he brought it right out. The wine list is pretty decent, by the way. Between us, we had the Low Country Smothered Chicken, Fried Oysters, and the Seafood Pasta. Everyone enjoyed their meal; and the portions were such that we did not order dessert, even though we'd skipped lunch earlier in the day. Dinner for three, including a bottle of wine, before tip, was right at $90. They have a motel as well as the restaurant, and for around $90 you can partake of their "double double" deal, which included the room, and breakfast (bar?) for two. Santee is exit 98 in South Carolina, which is just about halfway up/down I-95. It's a good place to stop and strech your legs, and enjoy a very decent Southern meal.

We went to Clark's Family Restaurant in Santee SC for something different. The restaurant and it's atmosphere/ambiance is very nice when you walk in. There wasn't a wait to be seated. For Appetizers we had a bread they call "Million Dollar" bread. I tried some and it really wasn't to my liking. Lobster Bisque which was OK, and a shrimp cocktail. For our entrees my buddy and I both had their Prime Rib which was good. My buddies daughter had the Seafood Pasta which she didn't really care for. My wife and my buddies wife both had Fillet Mignon which were OK and another friend had the Million Dollar Caesar Salad.

Needed a quick lunch stop and got lucky with Clark's Inn. Had the weekday buffet and it was great. Good country food fresh and hot. Will come back every time traveling I-95

My friends and I stopped here for lunch on the way up I-95. We ate in the bar and watched a football game. The decor was definitely old South, and the bar was very dark for 1 p.m. on a Sunday. However, the rest of the restaurant was very well-decorated, especially the charming outdoor patio at one end of the building. We were dressed casually, as were most of the other people at the bar. I believe that if you were eating in the restaurant, you should probably be a little more dressed up. The waitstaff was friendly and helpful. Our group started with their "Million-Dollar Bread," which was absolutely fantastic, and the price tag was far less than the name suggests. I followed that up with the Club Royal and fries, which was also fantastic. The serving size was generous, and if I hadn't been about to get in the car for another four hours, I would definitely have taken the other half of my sandwich with me. During halftime, we walked around the grounds. The buildings were pretty, although it looked like they had cut down a lot of trees, affording a great view of the apartment complex down the road. Don't believe the brochure: when they say they are adjacent to Lake Marion, they mean that it's five miles down the road. By the end of the football game, we were probably the only patrons left in the restaurant, so some of the staff members gathered around to watch the end of the game. Some people might not appreciate that, but I thought it was kind of charming. I would definitely come here again for great, inexpensive food and a traditional Southern atmosphere.

Probably the best place in Santee, but mediocre by most standards. We were seated in the main dining room where the effect of the elegant Old-South decor was somewhat diminished by the plastic tablecloths. We both ordered chicken - one fried, one baked. The chicken was good (baked) to very average (fried). One side came out cold and had to be returned to be nuked. Service was slow and the table never was cleared. It's hard to find a place to sign the check when the table is full of dirty dishes; and the tip reflected that. Next trip we'll probably look for another restaurant - or another town.

I ate at Clarks on Tuesday April 30th. I had the salmon salad. The salad was almost all iceberg lettuce, mediocre extra ingredients, the Salmon had none of black fat on the back removed, it was very fishy tasting, the meal quality for poor for $19 not counting wine purchase.

Here's the good news - from our one stay in Santee, Clark's appears to be the nicest restaurant in the area. Here's the bad news; dispite being comfortable and classy, the food and wine was just fair. My wife and I both had salmon and it lacked any taste and my wine wasn't up to par. If we return to the area we would probably go there again but we'd sit at the bar and just have apps.

We stopped here on our way back to Florida. It was our first visit and what a pleasant surprise. The food was great. We had filet mignon and it tasted wonderful. I wished that they had not overcooked the vegetable. The bread was delicious and perfect. Service was great. We will definitely stop here again when we are nearby.

I stop here frequently, probably 4-6 times a year when ever I'm travelling up and down the East Coast. I don't think there's much else to draw you to Santee other than a great round of golf or just passing through. Clark's Inn restaurant is a great stop for dinner! Great small, relatively quiet bar. The cuisine is classically southern but not overly heavy. Fresh seafood, steaks are the draw! Have the fried oysters.

It was a pleasant surprise. We stopped in Santee looking for something decent to eat, and found this nice restaurant with good food. We had the filet mignon, and it is always difficult to mess up. They did a fine job, and we would stop there again in a heartbeat

Next pit stop was South Carolina. Since I was in the southern state , I wanted to try some good old comfort fried chicken southern food. I found this place based on the person working from welcome center. She recommended this restaurant so off I went. A 5 min drive from the rest stop. I got to the restaurant and I was seated right away. Our hostess and waitress were very friendly and pleasant. We were given complimentary fresh baked corn bread and biscuits which were very good . I ordered their fried chicken with mash potato, my fiancé ordered fried cat fish fillet and my mother in law ordered baked chicken with veggies. My platter was huge enough for two people to share. I got a thigh , drum stick, wing and breast. My fried chicken was perfectly seasoned well , skin was crispy and moist in the inside. My mom in laws baked chicken was also moist and baked perfectly. Overall, I enjoyed my lunch here. Welcoming staff and very good southern food. I would come back here again.

Staying at the Hampton Inn in Santee, it's the half way point for us from Universal Studios Orlando. Went searching for dinner and in my experience, a local restaurant that looks as nice as Clarks is typically a sure bet......f'n wrong. Service was par, the Rocking Chair drink (I think that was the name of my drink) had good balance, BUT...the food needed help, minus the fried motz. The "homemade" chicken noodle soup had rice in it and came out more like a mushy porridge. My wife thought her chicken livers were ok, I say: not possible, they're chicken livers for crying out loud! The chicken tenders tasted subpar, the oil taste was strong and strange.... I couldn't quite figure out why though, hmmmm, oh well. When looking at the menu to choose my entrée, I actually let out an "oh sh*t" when I saw they had seafood linguine in white wine sauce and the $23.00 price tag made me more excited in anticipation because it had to be great, right? Right?! It was absolutely nothing like what was described on the menu. I ate all of the seafood though (three shrimp and three Bay Scallops) but the sauce was pink with a heavy load of gritty ass parm all through it AND I think the "cook" squeezed a whole lemon on top. Needless to say, I couldn't eat the linguine, I wouldn't be friends with anyone who could.

We love this Inn. Our third time staying in a month. Haven't had dinner at the restaurant but the free cook to order breakfast is on point. We are Hilton Honors members and choose to give up points to stay at this Inn.

Hope you like salt! I was staying at the neighboring Holiday Inn and thought I'd get a better dinner at Clarks than at the hotel restaurant. I ordered the lobster bisque, million dollar bread, and fried oyster caesar salad. Everything (except for the oysters) was extremely salty, to the point that it was almost all we could taste. I got my entire order for carry-out, and the soup came in a styrofoam cup. THEY AUTOMATICALLY ADD 20% GRATUITY TO ALL CARRY-OUT ORDERS. After those 3 items and gratuity, my total was $40. Overpriced.

Restaurant - the breakfast was wonderful. I had the french toast and sweet tea and I have nothing to complain about the food. The music being belted out of the speakers in the dining room, though, was intolerable. Patrons just wanted to eat fast and get out because the scratchiness and volume of the piano version of hits made your head hurt. Room - Very comfortable and cozy. Had some trouble with the bath plug and shower switch. Ended up taking a shower at half strength while the tub refused to drain. Beds, however, were comfortable and the rooms were quiet.

While traveling north on I 95 we wanted some good food, not fast food. Was easy to get to off of the hwy. we are driving an rv and towing a car so easy in and out is a must. We got there right before lunch so there were not many people there. Decor is clean, nice and cozy. There is a lunch menu but the prices were the same or more than the buffet so we decided to try that and get a variety of items to try. Lunch buffet is $10.95 drink NOT included. The soup was potato with bacon. It was good, nothing spectacular, but fine. The buffet had fried chicken, BBQ pork, turkey in gravy, turnip greens, rice, okra with tomatoes, green beans, sweet potato casserole , ziti pasta with tomato sauce ,field peas, baked beans. There was also a small salad bar. Desserts were peach and strawberry cobbler and choc pudding and choc cake. Meat quality and favors were all good. Fried chicken was the best of the three. Greens beans were very good . Appeared to be fresh cooked and seasoned well. Turnip greens were good, may be canned or frozen but seasoned well. Sweet potato casserole was very good and actually like a dessert and was better than any f the actual desserts. Peach cobbler was tasty but cold and true southerners want their cobbler at least warm. All in all we were glad we stopped to check it out. There was nothing bad about it, but nothing overly outstanding either. But you never know until you try...

Convenient location on i95 in SC. A welcoming cute exterior of a Southern mansion. Friendly hostess. If you come here - eat fried food. If it's not fried, it's awful. Kids grilled cheese soaked in butter. Four kids who like comfort food would not touch it or the fries. We are not fans of fried food so this was not for us. The place was empty but it took 40 min to get our food after we ordered it. Probably not a great place if you are in a hurry.

We stayed in the adjacent Best Western on the way back from Disney World, and decided to just eat at the nearest restaurant, which turned out to be 100 feet away. We put our names on the waiting list, and were quoted 20 minutes until our table would be ready. We came back 30 minutes later and ended up waiting another 10-15 minutes before being seated. The restaurant is comfortable, if a bit dated, as is the menu. Prices are reasonable; $6 for a glass of wine isn't considered expensive these days, but then again, you're in Santee, SC. The dark bread provided with dinner was soft and delicious, much like the bread at Outback steakhouse. I chose a broiled grouper entree, which was quite heavy with butter. I don't know when I was last unable to finish a fish before. My wife had a nice catfish, but our accompanying salads were mostly day old lettuce straight from the Piggly Wiggly. Our sweet potatoes were smothered in butter, but again, you're in SC. Not a bad meal if you're too tired to hunt around Santee. The ambiance is nice, and the air conditioning kept us cool. The servers are a bit stand offish, but maybe it's a North-South thing. I'd come back if I pass by again.

This is a buffet or you can order from the menu. The lunch buffet was our choice and excellent southern cooking was enjoyed. The staff is efficient and very friendly. One gets a nice dose of southern hospitality. Easy access off I-95. Also, lots of locals eating there too.

We ate here on our return trip from Disney and we had a mixed experience. It's a good-looking Southern place and seems appropriate for both casual and formal dinners. The service was professional: polite and efficient. Our food was mixed. My blue cheese salad was great, with a generous amount of each topping (walnuts, cranberries, etc.). The decadent sounding million dollar bread was not to my taste, however. It was a small, circular, thick garlic bread and the Italian seasoning hid any cheese flavor. It must be 1000 calories of butter, cheese, and oil. My wife disliked her vegetarian pasta, which was both too lemony and peppery. The kids split a grilled cheese sandwich, and the waiter kindly served each half on a separate plate and gave each kid a side of french fries and green beans. They loved the sandwich, but the fries had an off-taste (were they cooked in the same oil as fish?), and the beans were canned.

My wife and I were in there November 5th and we were in the bar. The bartender seemed more interested in running back and forth than tending to the bar and for a classy place with a nice atmosphere and to have the bartender drinking drinks with the customers I think that is why we were slighted in our service. This is our first time here and we were not impressed! Her hair was up in a bun and is not what I would call good appearance in her over all look. For the price we paid I will be taking my business elsewhere!

A great 'home cookin' kind of place, known for their fried chicken. This will be a quick review, will expand upon later.... I had discovered this place 7 yrs ago, upon my move from New ENlgand to Florida. Today, on my move from FL BACK to Hartford, I told my travel partner (aka Hubby) that we needed to see if i could find this place again (I knew it would be easy, as it is right off the Interstate (95)....I couldn't recall the name but knew I would recognize it (I did, immediately!) They still make their great fried Chicken. We opted for the lunch buffet (not bad, altho I really WISH we had spent the extra time, in order to have our chicken made up fresh and hot (the buffet chicken was a bit cool, and of course not as hot and juicy as if it was made to order (which I recommend). The buffet had a salad bar area, one daily soup (veg beef noodle today...the noodles looked like the kind of noodles u get in Campbell's (i did not sample, so i can't attest to the flavor). Hubby ate it all, but he's not as fussy or discerning as I am....LOL The HOT items on the buffet were the fried chicken, rice pilaf, various southern veggies, white meat turkey slices, brown gravy, stuffing (or as they call it in the south, 'dressing'....they also had some fresh biscuits (hot).... Our waitress (I swear) must have been working there since the place opened (i cant recall if it opened in the 40's or opened 40 yrs ago.....) whichever it was, she was definitely there from the start! LOL nice lad though........Not super attentive, but what do u want for someone as old as Methuselah??? haha (sorry, she WAS!) Overall, it was a pleasant experience. Considering the choice of places to eat (yucky chains!), this was a nice change of pace, and as mentioned earlier, they have been around a long time! I also found out from an employee, they usually do about 125 golfers for breakfast each morning! The menu (i saw the lunch menu) had lots of yummy sounding items (i wished i had gone for the Monte Cristo Sandwich!) but I had fried chciken on the brain....Let me also say, i do NOT like chicken on the bone, normally. So, it does mean something that I like the chicken here......highly unusual for me! Lunch generally runs under 10 bucks per (buffet was 10 each) and dinner is low teens.......I'm not sure about the breakfasts, but they sound yummy!

The maintenance and management are clearly lacking. 1st room they gave me (116) had a running faucet in the bathroom sink. 2nd room (132) had a really wobbly toilet seat & the shower head was a joke. More water came out the tub faucet than the shower head no matter how hard I tried to redirect it to the shower. When I complained, I was told the manager would telephone me. In which decade is that going to happen? Don't bother staying there. Rooms definitely not worth $100 per night.

I'm giving it five stars to try and off-set some of the other favorable reviewers which only left three stars, though claimed they enjoyed the place. Let me say, we stayed here after a very long day of driving from Florida on our way to New York. We could have gone a further distance but there was bad weather ahead! In any case, we saw a few signs for this place along the way and thought it looked cute and charming in the pictures. The prices for rooms are cheap-$96 for a King room for one night! And clean! One minus was that the room did smell a bit musty but I imagine that perhaps it hadn't been slept in for a few days. Nevertheless- accommodations were fine for a one night lay-over in South Carolina! As for the restaurant: I had the cranberry bleu-cheese salad with walnuts and grilled shrimp on top- OMG!! It came with a delicious vinaigrette dressing, which was fabulous. My husband had the browned angus patty with sautéed onions and mushrooms with a green bean casserole (which he said was delicious!!) and baked apples. He raved about his dinner and ate every bite on his plate!! The service was terrific- our waiter (Bob) was attentive and very friendly!! The atmosphere in the restaurant is quaint. If you want huge portions- go to Texas Roadhouse. If you want a quality meal, go here. And it would seem that they must have a new chef since some of these reviews from last year, because the food was absolutely delicious and you won't be disappointed!

This hotel is good if your stuck with no where else. The rooms are clean and cheap and include a free breakfast. Rooms have double beds so they are small. Traveling with four people we ended up getting two connecting rooms. If you Checkin after 7pm it's at a small window but very fast and efficient.

What a disappointment. We had dinner at Clarks a few years back and it was always good. But lunch was another story. We ordered the "fast lunch" - I think that's what it was called. Everything was greasy. The fried chicken - which I guess should be greasy... the green beans were greasy and the sweet potato casserole was greasy. The biscuit tasted like it was yesterday's. Oh, the little salad was fresh but I definitely ordered the wrong dressing - wine something. It was very greasy. It was $35 (for 2) with tip and service was slow. So sorry for such a bad review. The place was full so I'm guessing I just made the wrong choices and other things on the menu might be better.

My family and I stopped here on the way to Florida for dinner. The building is beautiful, which is what made us decide to try the restaurant. I am sadly totally unimpressed! For a $100 dinner I expect a certain level of service and quality. I ordered a $23 plate of fried mushy flounder with a severely overcooked mushy broccoli casserole and baked potato that tasted like it sat in a hot drawer for 6 hours. I definitely DO NOT recommend this restaurant. Don't let the beautiful building lure you in like it did me.

I love the inside. feels like home. Went for Thanksgiving with family. The food though was a disappointment. the prime rib was a strange HUNK of meat that resembled a large door stop. It was also dry and after awhile my jaw hurt from chewing. the mashed potatoes were the instant kind and not very good the salad had so much water in the bottom of the plate I had to drain it off and it filled my bread plate. for $18 you would expect a great cut of perfectly cooked meat. The waitress was a little over worked. she was the only one in our room but we could see several guys (bus bos maybe) standing in a back hall doing NOTHING!. Tea was over $2- REALLY? its TEA! probably didn't cost them $2 to make the entire URN of tea!. the green bean casserole was decent. the horseradish sauce wasn't much horseradish in it- more of a mayonnaise. my sister got the crab stuffed fish with some kind of lobster sauce on it. lucky she asked for that on the side, it was a thick bunch of stuff that did not have much flavor in it. They really need to up their game where the food is concerned. Because this was a complete FAIL.

I paid $17.95 for the fried chicken dinner which was way overpriced for what I got. The four pieces of chicken combined maybe had enough meat to make one chicken tender. I was not impressed at all. The bathroom was also very gross. I won't be going back.

Cute and homey inside. And if your mother was a really, really cheap and lousy cook, this could be considered home style cooking, please don't ever invite me to dinner if that's the case! The mashed potatoes were slimy and probably straight out of a box. The gravy was congealed. The chicken was dry and not very flavorful. I was looking for some good food on a long road trip of seeing more Golden Arches than oak trees. Cracker Barrel is usually a safe choice for southern food but I do always try to support local businesses. Sometimes I regret it. I would say this was one of those times.

I joined yelp to warn people about this restaurant. Horrible service. The server took our order and then discussed current events with other people waiting for their food and the other servers. It took another waiter to tell him he had food up to make him stop or it may have been my scowl that caught the servers attention. The food was tasteless and expensive. I'm not cheap but the quality of food did not match the price. My wife's dish was not what she ordered but she didn't want to return it and have to wait. I had to have them throw my steak back on the grill because it was cold. As I stated before I am not cheap but for the first time gave the server less than 20% tip. Horrible service.

First time visiting Santee and this restaurant. Decor is beautiful. Food is good ole southern style. We had dinner. Prices are a little high for the type of meal. Roast beef over rice was almost $18. Desserts are way over priced for what you get(average price was $8). No other serous competition in town so priced accordingly I guess.

on my way to florida we stopped for dinner and stay overnight in santee. The food was good but the service was not good. waitin 15 min just to get menu. Another 15 to order. when the food came..not too bad a wait. We only saw our waitress 2x. One to ask for another beer and another time to clear plates and ask for doggie bag. I had too ask other waitress for her to get check..20 min later the hostess had to cash it. our waitress was too bizzie in other rooms......you need to hire more people. took way to long for my wife and I to have dinner..way too long..not worth the wait and frustration of getting served. On to florida.....

I could give Clarks three, four or five stars depending on my mood. Clark's reminds me of "ye olde antiquey" style inn; the sort of place that was built in the 1980's with all of the faux-antique decor trappings one could imagine. Since we were just driving through and looking for dinner we didn't experience anything other than the restaurant, and that's what I'll review here. The restaurant caters to a culinarily-conservative clientele; most of the people I observed there were middle-aged and beyond, and I'm guessing that what keeps them coming back to Clark's is consistency and predictability. And as much as I enjoy a creative menu, there's a time and a place to not have any surprises, and Clark's knows that. That said -- my partner and I were prepared to be entirely underwhelmed, and we were instead treated to a perfectly good meal that both satisfied the immediate need for dinner and left us with a sense that we had patronized a local institution and not some chain restaurant along the highway. Even the decor left us smiling. Yes, we'd go back.

Two stars come only from the great service. The food was awful. My husband and I paid $50 for 2 yucky hamburgers.

After a long day of driving, we got take out for dinner from here. The low country stir fry was so tasty, and the veggies were still a little crunchy. I would have liked a little less sauce on it though. The biscuits were yum yum! The chicken Parmesan was good, but the noodles were a little blah. For the price, we would expect a little more pizazz. And they charge you 20% gratuity for take out orders. The prices are already so high, so for three people we spent $12 in gratuity just to pick up the food. Overall, it was worth the treat after two days of driving.

Great spot! Rain forced us off 95 sooner than we planned. Watched the end of the golf in the cozy bar area and enjoyed a nice dinner. After a miscue with a room in a separate building, we ended up with a nice room. Complete breakfast was included. Free WiFi. Definitely would plan on staying there again.

Sadly, the only reason Clark's earns 2 stars in my book is their fried chicken and atmosphere. Both are splendid. Everything else is a complete disappointment, made even more so by contrast with how they used to be. Everything but the chicken (maybe) comes from a freezer or can. Miss those fried shrimp from your high school cafeteria? I didn't think so. They're not any better here. I wish I could get away with charging $19 for a few Tyson fried shrimp and popping open a can of collards. Collards come in cans? I had to check my next trip to the grocery store. As a matter of fact, they do. Warning of caution for coffee drinkers - coffee is $2 a cup. A CUP. No refills. You're better off driving across the street to Wendy's for a cup of joe.

We stop here on our trips up North, and return every year! The menu is American with choices of beef, seafood and some pasta dishes too! Tuna steak was excellent! My wife had one of their special offerings and was equally pleased! The bar seats were comfortable too,and I am 6'1"~255 lbs.! We have had sandwiches here too, large and tasty! Clean and friendly with very good service!

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed this place! Food was great. We had several meals here over a golf weekend and all were generous portions and cooked perfectly. Great to see a family owned business still going strong. The fried chicken was really good! The service was wonderful! A great atmosphere, much like what I image my grandparents enjoying 50 years ago.

We were driving to Tallahassee and had to find dinner. We found this place by serendipity while looking for the Cracker Barrel. It is quaint and charming and the service exceeded our expectations. David was or server and had plenty of good humor and great stories to share. What a character! The food was delicious and a great deal. Starting with wonderful warm cheese bread. Followed by a salad with organic and local goat cheese and pecans. The cheese was superb! Finally, we shared the main course with two sides. A sautéed beef, onion and mushroom dish over brown rice with sweet potatoes and fried apples. It was plenty of food and a great deal. We will come back to Clark's Restaurant!

Charming Inn and restaurant. The restaurant's wine by the glass price was expensive for me, $11. My entree was a properly prepared grilled honey glazed salmon. For my two side dishes, I chose mashed potatoes and vegetable medley, I wouldn't recommend these sides. Both were plain, basically flavorless. The cheese biscuits was warm and tasty, however, our waiter brought only 2 bread plates to our table of 4, and was not prompt in returning with 2 more. I thoroughly enjoyed the laughter and conversation with my friends. The restaurant was quiet overall making shared conversation pleasant. I chose to skip dessert, but plan to try a piece if chocolate cake on my next visit.

Southern hospitality without the good ole Southern cooking!! Rather than grabbing a meal at the surrounding fast food joints, my girlfriend & I decided to stop in for their $10.99 lunch buffet. I awarded 2 stars because our waitress was friendly & the restaurant had a little southern charm to it. However, the food was disappointing (even for a buffet). The fried chicken was extremely tough, the vegetable medley was soggier than ever and the only thing that was edible was their pasta salad...not even the cornbread had flavor! Fortunately for me, I won't be going back!

Stopped in on the first leg of a long trip. Had the buffet and man, it was exactly what was needed. For the most part it was just a few steps away from "Grandma Cooking," and there is no reason to leave hungry. Almost everything was solid. Fried chicken, corn, seasoned rice, even the coleslaw was spot on. My girlfriend loved the fried okra. The dessert was iffy. I had the peach cobbler which was loaded with cinnamon and desperation. The fried green tomatoes were nothing to write home about, and the biscuits totally sucked. The atmosphere was ok, but you could tell it was a reliable meal for most of the locals. Same menu as always, cooked the same way it had always been. No adventurous eaters in attendance, no surprises, just what you would expect. Our waitress was a bit off her rocker. Very sweet, but not super attentive and chided one if my friends for taking home a half eaten biscuit that the waitress had brought us. Very strange. Don't come here looking for surprises. Come for the comfort food, stay for the overpriced, weird gift-shop.

Food was disgusting. Cheddar rolls were the only good thing.pecan shrimp salad lacked pecans and had 5 small boiled shrimp. Chefs special roast and rice fatty and drowned in butter. I feel as if I should suck on a Lipitor after I ate. Pricey for the poor quality

This place looks lovely, and you get the impression that your dining experience will be special and a welcome change from chain restaurants. However, the food is sub-par and over-priced and the service slow and unfriendly. When I say slow, I mean REALLY SLOW. It took an hour to get our food, which wasn't worth waiting for, it turned out. And it was really over-priced. No matter how attractive the place, do not eat there. The Holiday Inn behind this restaurant serves better and less-expensive food and the wait staff is friendly and well-trained.

Two stars for the seafood salad and the vanilla milkshake, four stars for the fried chicken and the biscuits; ergo an average score of three. Not a bad place to stop on your drive from Florida to NC, if you can't stomach fast did chains, but definitely not a place for foodies. Regardless, people were friendly and the veggies were fresh, even if they were only iceberg lettuce.
