Drove by this place many times, as it is close to my home. Always been curious as to how their food was, but was also a bit apprehensive as I am with all places, especially restaurants, that have no windows. They have good specials 4 nights/week as evidenced by the large sign out front telling you so. My husband and 2 small sons went on a Saturday evening ~5:30 pm. The special that night was all you can eat crab legs for $20, which is a pretty good deal. So with trepidation, we entered (again, the whole windowless thing). The layout is an open square, with a bar area and tv in the back, booth and table seating in the main dining area. There is also a side room off to the left for bigger parties and for the "salad bar". There is also a thin strip of fabric on the floor for carpet. The lighting I found to be somewhat dark(hmmm). The sign at the front says seat yourself so we chose a booth. Waited ~5 min for the waitress to approach. When she did, there was no greeting, no smile and basically an air of general discontent about her. For what or whom? IDK, but it was off-putting from the start. So we began with, "what can I get you to drink?" and a glare. Nice. My husband got the crab legs, I got flounder w/ baked potato and one of my sons got the child's chicken finger plate w/ff. food came in a reasonably short period of time. While we waited, my husband and I hit the salad bar. Sad to say, not much to this. Just they very basics and the taste, while edible was not very fresh tasting. So, our meals came and they looked pretty good. The breakdown is as follows: flounder: 6 - decent taste, pretty meaty, greasy batter, crispy; crab legs: 7 - they looked ok from across the table, when asked how they were, all my husband said was, they're ok. Chx tenders: 6 - average, decent size, pretty good flavor. Baked potato: 3 - hot, not quite done, you know when all your margarine and sour cream just soak right in? Like that. FF: 2: dry, bland, not good. Proof: my son didn't even hardly eat any. Overall, I give this restaurant 1.5-2 stars. Just not that impressed on many levels; the service, the food, the general aesthetic of the place. I don't endorse M & J, but its redeeming factor is the price, which is good for the amount, if not quality of food.

A really good, local joint located southwest of Spartanburg, close to Greer. It's a great place to go watch the South Carolina Gamecocks play on TV during fall football season, the staff is good and on point, and it is nicely lit inside. I have visited here several times, and my latest experience on 9/3/2015 was quite the same. I love the food--everything from its calabash chicken to mozzarella cheese sticks, and the fresh-cut fries, although these fries are VERY greasy and you will need some napkins! You could get your food cooked how you want it, but when I had a burger here, my waitress did not ask me how I wanted it cooked. You'd have to tell the server how you want your food cooked yourself :P So, if you live in Lyman, I highly recommend coming to M&J's, and there's even "all-you-can-eat" specials going on, so definitely come here!
