This is a family own business who has lived on the shores of Lake Murray for over sixty years. The owner, Charlie has priced his menu where locals will support his business year round and just not the summer months. There is a lot of history in this place. Overall food is OK, but their chicken wings are much better than most places around Lake Murray. Good crowd on Friday nights with good local entertainment.

Have been meaning to try this place ever since we moved to the lake in 2011; finally got the chance recently. Our neighbors' friends were the musical entertainment so we went to check them out. Neighbors repeatedly warned us the food was nothing special, but we figured, how bad could it be? and went anyway. It was a Friday night around 7:30. There were lots of cars in both front and rear parking lots, but the place is a lot bigger than it looks from the road, and only about half the tables were full. We seated ourselves and our waitress appeared fairly quickly to take our drink order. When we asked what beer was available, she admitted she didn't know because she was new. No problem - we went to the bar to find out for ourselves. The bartender barely knew and stumbled through half a dozen choices. We returned to our table to place our order so our new waitress could get credit for the sale/tip. So far, so good. We got our drinks and soon after placed our food order. The band fired up around that time and they were pretty good. There is a good-sized dance floor and several folks were taking advantage of it. We enjoyed the music and the people-watching. I would like to tell you about the food, but I can't, because we never got any. We were there for more than two hours. After about an hour and a half, each time a server came out bearing plates of food, we felt certain it was ours. Each time, we were wrong. We had no problem getting updates on the drinks. When we asked our server when we might expect our meal, she said 'I have no idea'. At least she was honest! At around 9:30, we agreed we would finish our current drink order, and if our food hadn't arrived by then, we would pay for our drinks and leave. And that's exactly what we did. Can't blame the new server. She was the only server for the entire outside area which was about a dozen tables bless her heart, a terrible thing to do to a new server on a busy weekend night. Have no clue what went wrong, really don't care. I guess the bright side is, we didn't have to suffer through a lousy meal. Thank goodness the new Waffle House is open down 378 next to Publix. Open 24/7, fair prices. We got there at 10pm, were eating by 10:05. I saw a couple comments here about cheap prices at Charlie's. I didn't think the food was priced that cheaply. Typical prices for bar food. The chicken strips I ordered were $7.25 and didn't mention if that included any sides. Since I never got them, I'm not sure if that came with fries or not. The fancy entrees (steak, seafood etc.) were in the mid-teens to over $20 the night we were there. And if you're into any sort of healthy eating, forget it. The only vegetables on the menu were potatoes (baked; french fries) or onions (rings). They do have a good location on the water and a large covered deck area out back to enjoy the lake. But management needs a makeover/rescue. Too bad - it would've been nice to have a good restaurant within a 10 minute drive (by car). I'll stick to Buffalo Grill and Frayed Knot and get there by boat instead.

My wife and I ate at Charlie's tonight. This place has been here for many, many years but this was my first visit. While I have read many bashing reviews of different restaurants I really tried to find something positive to say - really. I will keep this from being a negative novel, only negative bulleted phrases. I can say the goats were really...... goat like? - Walk in on a warm June 18, 2014 evening and hardly feel the air conditioning - The bathroom had NO air and a thin shower curtain for a door to the number 2 room - gross - Flounder was cool, dry, brown (not fillet), and thin - bad when you are thinking of UK fish and chips - thick, and juicy - Fries were small and really cold - Hushpuppies had no onion and no taste - like unsweetened doughnut dough - Tartar sauce was really only mayonnaise and was kept unrefrigerated - mayo had gone bad - Wife's wings were very small and dry - she asked for blue cheese dressing which waitress never brought - Tea was not sweet and very watery - The two other tables cleared of people but not dishes - which attracted flies - busboy walked out - looked disgusted and meandered back to - wherever - Our waitress rang us up which made feel uncomfortable about the tip amount - hence, she got more than she deserved Really not a good experience for $30 with tip. I have a better experience at Captain D's every time. Maybe the steak is better at Charlie's - for seafood by the lake - bad.

We live close and have tried Charlie's 3 times hoping to find a close by place to eat. It is really a dirty dismal place with terrible food and service. There is no way to sugar-coat it! Sorry!

Charlie's is an inexpensive local watering hole. Prices are very low with a full slate from weekend breakfast, lunchtime specials, and evening meals and weekend entertainment at night. As an added bonus you can dock and walk up to the restaurant. Kids enjoy seeing the goats.
