If you want to try southern based mustard BBQ, here you go. Went with my brother he had the pulled pork plate, I had the pork sandwich basket with potato salad. The sandwich is good, hickory smoked, mustard sauce already mixed in. Not my cup of tea, I'm a sauce on the side guy, but not a deal breaker. Potato salad was really salty, fries were good. My brother enjoyed his, said the hash and rice were good. They have a buffet, was closed when we went. They've also started leaving their politics out of the restaurant, which is good. Service, meh. They really didn't want to be there.

Very good food. Kind of strange with the paper plates but overall this was very good! Very good customer service in a town normally know for poor service! If you are in the area, give it a try! Only $8 bucks for the buffet.

I am a huge fan of mustard based barbeque, and Maurice's always hits the spot. I don't understand how they stay in business, because this is a very large restaurant and there are rarely more than a few tables occupied. For a party of two, I typically pay around $25 including beverage. They do have a buffet, but the hours are sporadic. Totally worth a visit!

This is the best barbecue "chain" I know of. The sauce is consistently delicious, the meat is always smoked to tender perfection and the tea is amazing. I've been stopping here on the way to and from the beach and I've never been disappointed. Also, the buffet is fantastic! The hush puppies are also fantastic. Literally my only complaint would be the traditional, confederate politics but I got over that a LONG time ago.

We always stop at the nearest Maurice's when we are in the area. This was our first at this location. Great BBQ, as usual and friendly staff. Hash is a must!

How is this place still in business? Much less, with 14 locations !?! I stopped in with my family on a Sunday at noon while visiting the Columbia area. First off, the kids behind the counter seemed extremely confused about how to do their job. The buffet was pricey and they were going to charge $4 for my 2 yr old to share the buffet with my husband- I've never heard of charging a child under 3 for a buffet, but whatever it looked rather unappealing anyway so the Husband and I ordered sandwiches instead. 2 sandwiches, fries, and drinks came out to $20 (and that was after the discount). I don't mind paying good money for tasty BBQ, but we quickly found out this wasn't good barbecue. I love barbecue and I like eating regional specialties when I'm in that region. I'm not going to get pissy if my sauce is mustard based in SC, vinegar based in NC, etc. Maurices' mustard based sauce really lacked any sort of depth of flavor. The pork itself was bland. My husband ordered a brisket sandwich, which he wasn't a fan of. We ended up splitting each sandwich in half and sharing since neither of us particularly cared for either sandwich we ordered. The brisket was equally bad as the pork- very dry and tough. Had some flavor but it seemed like it was coming from liquid smoke, which good barbecue should never have liquid smoke involved. We won't be back here, or visit any of the other locations.

Seemed a little strange at first when we walked in and the place was empty, but we decided to give it a try anyway. I had the Big Joe, which turned out better than I thought seeing that it was in a mustard sauce. My wife had the brisket sandwich. It could have used a more smokey punch, but overall a quality sandwich. Turned out to be a good experience after all.

This might be where barbeque goes to die. Save your money for a better southern experience. Had a late dinner..if you consider 8:15 on a friday late. Buffet was closing..looked unappetizing and hours old. Staff was friendly enough but had an obvious agenda to rush us through our underwhelming and depressing dinner to close. Dinner was obviously scooped from the left over buffet. Pork was dry. Really very awful.

BBQ was extremely dry, adding sauce did not help. Staff was polite but cold. Left most of food on plate. Best part of meal was naked beans. Have not been here in several years and will be a while before we come back.

Knocking off one point because my Yankee tree-hugging mentality hates the styrofoam cups and plates they serve you with. Other than that BEST FREAKING BARBECUE IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD. Oh jeez, you need to come here. It is fantastic.

Haven't had their buffet, but a fan of their regular menu. The ribs are fall of the bone tended and the little joe bbq sandwich is delicious. I'm a fan of their hushpuppies too. Their sauce is a mustard based sauce and I do like it. However I realize not everyone is a fan of mustard based sauce. Next time I go in I'll have to see if they have other sauce options. Also, their service is pretty good. Have always had great service there.

A solid 2 primarily because their bbq is mustard based (not a fan) and their buffet isn't open everyday. However, the food was plentiful and filling. I had the bbq chicken and pork dinner plate. The Price was fair. Also the strawberry shortcake was delicious. The Place was empty when we went, so that wasn't a good sign already. Service was formidable, I didn't feel that happy southern customer service. The atmosphere was casual, however they do have an out-dated tv. The place seems appealing on the inside and out, but i would trade all that for excellent food and service. Unfortunately, this bbq joint doesn't deserve anything above mediocrity. If your in SC, try another place.

I love bbq but I'm not a fan of mustard-based bbq. I had the little Joe sandwich and it was mediocre. I was a little miffed that their menu prices differ than what they charged on the register. Seems a little shady. Boring food. Questionable business practice. One star for this place.

First of all is there such a thing as gourmet ribs? The pulled pork got to be a bit boring after a few bites....on the other hand the ribs were different....good but not earth shattering. We were on our way back home to Philly from Augusta, SC. Hey Yall!...what's with the mustard sauce?....its okay but we northerners are accustomed to the red. My husband, the BBQ snob was not impressed After we left the place, we're in the car and I'm reading reviews of the place.... I read the owner is a bonifide southern racist....He wasn't there when we went in....but back to the food.... I asked the watiress what was the best selling item, she said that she heard the ribs were good....I said, "you heard?" She said "I just started".... Nuff Said.....

The worst Maurice's in South Carolina. The food is cold. The buffet had congealed. The onions rings which have always been a Maurice's favorite of mine tasted like the grease had not been drained and cleaned for years. The parking lot is not even maintained. I am not sure why this is the forgotten location, but how it is still open is beyond me.

This was my first South Carolina BBQ experience and I totally loved it. I went with a friend who lives here, so he showed me the proper way to chow down. I ordered a Little Joe BBQ Pork Sandwich and a a basket. Then I took off the top bun, poured on the cole slaw and some more more BBQ sauce. Very tasty. The vinegar in the cole slaw and the mustard really compliment each other. I've heard the buffet is great too, but since I was there for lunch on a Tuesday, it wasn't open. I'll be back next time I'm in South Carolina!

Way way way over priced for quite average food.

Possibly the definition of over-hyped, this place was nothing special. They get good grades for mustard-school BBQ - especially the ribs and hash rice. Two or three of these puppies will put you down for the count, but otherwise this joint is ordinary at best. I wonder how many business groups wander in after a busy day and walk right back out when they find no alcohol served here? Don't ribs and beer go together? Also, our group walked in at the 7:30-8:00pm time frame and apparently kept them from closing up. My guess is that this satellite location from the original Maurice's is like the mother ship only in recipe. In every other way it will leave you wondering what all the hype is about.

I had the buffet, the chicken and macaroni are really good. I was impressed the veggies were seasoned and didn't taste like they were dumped out of a can. My only complaint was the banana pudding could use a few more wafers but thats my personal preference.

Food is decent. Fried chicken is incredible.

Not bad barbecue. Really old and outdated restaurant filled with confederate literature and propaganda. The workers don't seem to care you are there. Expensive. Great sauce, if you like mustard. I don't think I have ever been there when someone else was eating as well. I don't know how they stay open.
