Iama Critic Rating - Pete's Quality Foods - 2 Stars 500 White Horse Road, Greenville, SC Overall: I love searching for those out of the way little dives, burger bars and breakfast nooks, because sometimes you find an amazing little gem of a restaurant, like Lifeit Cafe in Greenville! But more often than not you just find a dump that you can't figure out what keeps them in business. Pete's says they provide "Quality Foods"! But nothing could be further from the truth. Every single thing I had was prepossessed, from the fish to the chuckwagon burger. It all came out of a frozen bag. If you must go to Pete's the chicken wings were the only bright spot on the menu. The Service - 0 Stars (0%) We did not receive any wait service at Pete's Quality Foods so we assume Pete's is a self serve restaurant and really doesn't have wait service. So we considered a tip "optional" and left none. We typically provide 20% or more for 5 star service on the pre-tax portion of the bill, 18% for 4, 15% for 3, 12% for 2 and 0% for 1 star service. The Food: $3.30 Chuckwagon - 2 Stars This is the same chuckwagon burger you got out of the cafeteria in high school. In fact these patties could literally be the same frozen remnants from that bygone era. This burger brought back culinary memories of my youth alright, but they were memories I had hoped to forget. $7.30 Captain's Seafood - 2 Stars This entree came with a wonderful prepossessed fish patty just like you get out a the Walmart freezer. And Pete's goes all out and purchased the fires and hush puppies from the same freezer. Not sure where the oysters came from but they should have been returned. The microscopic salad was hand made, but it was not very useful. $5.10 Gyro - 2 Stars In our search for the best Gyro in the Upstate I naturally had to order one at Pete's. But what I received was one of the worse gyros in Greenville. Two, maybe three razor thin slices of prepossessed Kronos style gyro meat. And a salad on a pita. It came with some more of those boring, frozen bag fries. $6.25 Chicken Wings - 3 Stars The one bright spot on the menu, the chicken wings. They were actually plain but decent. The coating was of the standard "fried chicken" variety, and the onion rings were average. It also came with one of those hilarious microscopic salads. Total Bill: $27.49 for one person including tax, and a soda fountain drink. Final Thoughts: Because of our bad experiences at other "Pete's" restaurants, none of my other guest critics would go with me to Pete's Quality Foods! And I am starting to understand why. I just kept ordering entree after entree hoping to find something to like about Pete's, but to no avail. I don't know who Pete is, or if the same Pete owns all the Petes restaurants, or even if he ever had the magic touch with food, but I think he has lost his mojo and needs to scrap the menu and start fresh....as in fresh food! Five Star Restaurant Reviews has reviewed very few restaurants that are this bad. So Pete's Quality Foods easily earn's a spot on our "Best of the Worse!" list
