First of sure to be many times at Mike and Jeff's BBQ. The pulled pork sandwich came with enough meat for two and a bun. For sides I tried the slaw and the sweet potato soufflé. Just a side note, before hitting up some these bbq places down here I never cared much for sweet potato anything. But the SP soufflés/casseroles they have in these restaurants are incredible! Anyway, both sides were delicious, and the pork smoky, moist and flavorful. And all for a great price! As some have said, it's not in the best part of town, kind of "hole-in-the-wall-ish" and all that but so what? To me, it looks like how a BBQ place should and the folks there are super nice and seem to enjoy what they're doing. I just moved here recently and look forward to coming back again and again!

I found Mike and Jeff's through a Google Search; I was looking for a BBQ place to cater my picnic wedding reception. After talking to Jeff on the phone and having my parents visit the restaurant, I was certain THIS would be the best place to hire. They didn't disappoint! They confirmed a few times before the big day, triple checked all of the details, arrived on time, brought SUPER DELICIOUS/FRESH food (pulled pork, mac n cheese, baked beans, slaw, sweat tea, lemonade, and bread), served with a smile, made sure everyone's bellies were full, and cleaned up. Do your taste buds a favor and give this place a try. When you do, tell Jeff that Nicole sent you :)

this is the perfect hole in the wall BBQ, it doesn't get anybetter than this!

Some of the best BBQ I've ever had, definitely the best in the area. It's in an industrial, run down section of town, don't expect atmosphere, the place is a dive, however that's where the best BBQ comes from.

This is a tiny place that serves up big flavor. There are about 5 parking spots in front of this little building, and once inside there are about as many places to sit. But the pig is flavorful with a very strong smoke aroma that permeates the meat. There are the usual combination plates with pulled pork, chicken, ribs, and 2 sides. The baked beans are good, but I really liked the sweet potato souflée--it has a sugar glaze on top with pecans--it tasted so buttery, and almost had a coconut flavor. I would like to see dry rub. The tables have 3 bbq sauces in squeeze bottles, and they're all good. This is a little family-run operation, the people are very friendly and helpful. The only thing I"m not too crazy about is the surrounding neighborhood, which looks run-down. You may not want to wear your Rollex when coming here. No beer, either.

It was a hit and miss meal. Ribs were dry, over-sized and anything but tender. Definitely not worth the price unless volume is what you're after. Easily missable. The pulled pork was above average. Moist flavorful and nicely done. Sides were pretty good. The fried onion rings won gold....properly deep-fried. Overall it's pretty good. To it's credit it's got an authentic atmosphere.

This is a unique place. The smoker is in the front parking lot. The atmosphere of the restaurant is like visiting your grandmother's basement. The BBQ is the real deal. I find it a "little" too smoky. I barbecue myself so I am picky. The sandwich is a generous size. I love their hot sauce on it. The ribs are good but again very smoky. I like the hushpuppies also. The coleslaw was ok. It is worth a try. Not all will be fans, but I will be back.

This diner is small and totally casual and unpretentious. There is a small counter with four stools and only five tables inside, with several more outside. The latest they're open is 7pm Tuesday through Friday, and only until 4pm on Saturday (closed Sunday and Monday), so get here early! Pulled pork BBQ is one of my favorite things to eat every time my wife and I visit South Carolina, and Mike & Jeff's know how to do it right! Easily the best BBQ I've found in the Greenville area!

Iama Critic Rating - Mike & Jeff's BBQ Diner - 3 Stars 2401 Old Buncombe Road, Greenville, SC Overall: Mike & Jeff's is exactly what you expect from a real barbeque dive. It is a tiny place with a few tables, a barbeque bar overlooking the kitchen, a limited menu (no brisket), and cheap prices. The ambiance is exactly what you are looking for in a restaurant like this. My guest critics and I wanted to love this place, and we do. Despite the problems we encountered we still consider Mike and Jeff's to be one of the better Greenville BBQ dives and will give them another shot in the future to improve their ratings. The Service - 5 Stars (20% tip) Our waitress, Angel, (how appropriate) was simply fabulous! She represents what all waitresses should strive to be. She was extremely attentive, helpful as all get out, wonderfully sociable and funny as can be. She knew the menu and the restaurant's history despite the fact that she had just started at Mike & Jeff's. She made us feel instantly right at home and comfortable, like we were long lost friends! Outstanding! Mike & Jeff need to take note and retain this waitress because she is a keeper! Sadly I miscalculated our awesome waitress's tip and only left her an $8.00 17% tip. But for her excellent service her tip should have been $9.35 at 20%. We typically provide 20% or more for 5 star service on the pre-tax portion of the bill, 18% for 4, 15% for 3, 12% for 2 and 0% for 1 star service. The Food: Hot BBQ Sauce - 5 Stars I have been to countless barbeque dives all across the country and I have eaten thousands of different barbeque sauces. But in my entire life I have only purchase two sauces for my own home use. The first was Sonny's mustard based sauce, and the second was Mike & Jeff's hot sauce! This is without a doubt the best, most flavorful hot sauce I have ever tasted. It is vinegar based, which I usually hate, but this stuff is simply magnificent. I bought an entire quart for my own personal cooking, and at the rate this stuff is disappearing at my house, I will soon have to go back to Mike and Jeff's! This sauce is Heaven on corn bread, mac and cheese and countless other dishes. $5.95 Sausage Dog - 3 Stars This $2.95 sandwich came as a plate with two sides for $5.95, so I chose onion rings and hush puppies. The sausage dog was decent, but it could have been much better had the temperature of the grill been turned down. The sausage was overcooked and crusty. Same with the pepper and onion garnish and the onion rings. The hush puppies were much better than average and had an awesome spice mix! $6.25 Hamburger Plate - 2 Stars Wow, this entree was a real disappointment. My guest critic ordered his burger with fries and rings. The fries were cooked properly, but were as plain as they get. The rings were overcooked and extremely crunchy and hard. But this was nothing compared to the charcoal briquette that was served as "meat" on his burger. We rarely complain, and I mean rarely... like one out of every one hundred restaurants, but this burger was inexcusable. I FORCED my guest, who hates to make waves, to ask for another burger. The replacement burger was better, but it was obvious that everything that comes off Mike and Jeff's grill is overcooked or burnt. For goodness sake, turn the grill temps down!! $8.50 Large Pulled Pork Plate - 3 Stars My second guest critic has eaten more pulled pork than a Texas BBQ Judge. I have personally seen him eat hundreds of pounds! He knows pulled pork and Mike and Jeff's is some good pulled pork. But it is not as good as you can get AYCE for $10 elsewhere. If you can't beat Sonny's AYCE pulled pork then you get three stars. He also loved the sweet potato crunch and thought the rings were overdone. Another thing my guest critic mentioned was the cheap Bunny Brand style buns. Which frankly we all HATE! $11.95 Rib, Chicken, Pork Combo - 4 Stars This quad rib, pulled pork and chicken combo was really good. The chicken was superbly flavored and moist. The pulled pork was smoky but about average. And the above average ribs were large, smoky and moist. I chose sweet potato crunch and barbeque beans for my two sides. Both sides were five stars. The beans were filled with flavor and pork. The sweet potato crunch was practically a desert! Total Bill: $54.60 for three adults including tax, a tip and two soda fountain drinks. Final Thoughts: Mike and Jeff's BBQ Diner could easily be better, maybe even five stars, but they have one significant problem, OVERCOOKING. Turn down the freakin grill temps, pull the rings out of the fryer a minute earlier and buy some decent buns. They already have improved with an awesome new waitress, now all that is left is a little less heat in the kitchen! Well, that and add brisket to the menu! I mean can you really call yourself a BBQ Diner without brisket?

Set your GPS for Sans Souci and not Greenville. We followed the latter and went about 6 miles the wrong way on Old Buncombe Rd. The best SMOKY BBQ taste around, imho. Hard working, man-sized portions. Friendly service. Terrific value!

If you want delicious barbecue, this is the place to go. Food is delicious, portions are large and staff is very friendly. Met Jeff and he was covered in smoke from smoking the meats, but he was a sweetheart and so gracious. Their building used to be a gas station and they have all kinds of memorabilia. PLEASE get the hush puppies & sweet potato casserole. You will be glad you did. If you are in Greenville, SC. make sure to put this on your list of places to visit. Tell'em that Tracey from Philadelphia, PA sent you :)

This was an AWESOME experience. The food was delish and the portions are huge. The pulled pork was so tender and the ribs were very good. If you get the sides, PLEASE get the hush puppies and sweet potato casserole. You'll be very glad you did. The staff is super nice and they take great pride in their job. I got to meet Jeff as well, and he is a sweetheart. I took a picture with him and the staff. If you are ever in Greenville, SC make sure you put this on your list of places to visit. It's funny how with any other style of cuisine, you'd see a rundown little shack practically falling apart and think, "Better go somewhere else," but with barbecue you think, "Oh good, this'll be quality." Really, if your looking for some genuine smoked pulled pork, look no further. This is the good stuff.

If you pull up and think, this can't possible be it... You're wrong! By far the best bbq I've had and the service was awesome as well! Was the first place we went out to upon moving to the Greenville area and they truly set the bar high! Absolutely delicious!

This place holds true to the fact that the worse a barbecue place looks on the outside, the better the food is on the inside. I had the pulled pork plate which had a great wood smoked flavor. I also had a Barbecue dog, which is a hot dog with mustard and onions topped with pulled pork and they are fantastic. The price is low, my wife and I ate together for $20, and the staff if friendly. This is a true local treasure.

This is THE BBQ place I recommend to anyone I talk to food about. Small place that draws you in with their smoker out front. Always friendly staff and great food. I don't think I've had anything I haven't been pleased with here. Great heaping servings of pulled pork. Definitely bang for your buck.

For openers, if you believe as does the Brown Shoe Gourmet that the best barbecue is usually in the worst part of town in a joint with bars on the window and just enough grease on the table to be able to write your initials, then this place falls short on two of three counts.... but it's still one of the best in the area. It's a family operation in a not so great part of town with too few tables and not enough parking that serves up world class pork, some very good ribs and excellent pulled chicken - along with some far better than most sides. Too good to be true? There must be something where they fall short; yes, they don't offer Brunswick Stew, they provide buns rather than thin sliced white bread, the meat on the ribs falls off the bone, not because they pare boil them (a felony crime in some states), but rather because between the smoking and grilling (a 12 hour process) they steam them. Wish they didn't, but they do. And they were out of T shirts. They advertise as a Barbecue Diner, but the closest they come to being a diner is offering barbecue (how do they do that?) hot dogs, hamburgers and fried bologna. Why? One of the quirks of the place is that they offer what are termed French fries and home fries. The French fries are of the frozen variety; the home fries are hand cut, freshly deep fried. One is crispy but bland, the other full flavor Idaho potatoes at their best. Easy decision. Three sauces: standard thick red, good but not really distinctive,; a hot sauce (the original with additives) and a too mustardy option. Metro Greenville has more than its fair share of barbecue - Mike and Jeff's is one of the best if not The. The other sides we tried were all far above average. The sweet potato soufflé was excellent, the baked beans had a good 'cue flavor, and the slaw was finely minced, sweet full flavor, one of the best we've enjoyed of late. The hush puppies, we're told, are also very good. They list (frozen) onion rings, but I'm not sure why. It's a family run operation meaning the service is good and they really do want to make sure you enjoy your meal. Their combo dinners worked best for us and were more than one person should be required to eat. For all of $9.95 the Brown Shoe Gourmet had the rib and pork combo. Three ribs and a generous shot of pork plus the two sides, home fries and slaw. One of the best bargains we've come across. Afterwards, the waitress (not sure whether she's with Jeff or Mike) confided the combo was more than enough for two - and she was right. Metro Greenville has a lot of barbecue; Mike and Jeff's is one of the best if not The.

We had to try Southern barbeque and liked the reviews here. The sweet potato soufflé was to die for, so rich and decadent it is a dessert in itself. The baked beans were good, nicely spicy and hot. We shared the triple plate of chicken, ribs, and pulled pork and the serving was so generous we were both stuffed before finishing the meal. Service was fast and friendly although we don't care for tv blasting while dining! Good food, good service, good value!

I travel to South Carolina twice a year. There are two bbq joints I eat at and this is one of them. The ribs, chicken and pork are spot on. You can't go wrong with any of the sauces but I love the mustard sauce. If you have not been here before what are you waiting for?!

Mike & Jeff's was awesome! Sadly I didn't take any pics because I was too busy chowing down. But it's definitely a hole in the wall, back home country feel. Our waitress was an older lady with curly gray hair and a big smile. She reminded me of my grandmother which was heartwarming. We had the pulled pork, baked beans, potato salad and hush puppies and everything was really tasty and flavorful. Will definitely be back the next time I'm in town.

Simply put, it is the best BBQ around. Traveling around the southern states gives me better and more chances than the average person to eat out at various BBQ joints. They all have fallen short of Mike and Jeffs. Just can't say anything better.

We have ate here since they opened. I live on the street beside it and the smell is amazing !!! The BBQ is great ,full of flavor. You get a lot for your money. They are so nice and welcoming, plus you get plenty on your take out orders too. We will always be customers of Mike and Jeff. You must try for yourself. I do wish their bins were better.
