Iama Critic Rating - Jimmy John's - 2 Stars 2301 Augusta Street, Greenville, SC Overall: I have read all about Mr. Liautaud and how he created an empire serving college kids. And I get Jimmy John's philosophy. Keep it simple, make it fast, sell it cheap, and deliver it quick. It's "Freaky Fast"... I get it. But I am a "comparative" critic. I don't judge food on whether or not I like it, I critique food on how it compares to the competition. I don't judge ambiance, delivery or convenience. I judge food alone. So if all you are after is a sub delivered to your door Freaky Fast then Jimmy John's is your place! There is little competition in the area that delivers. But since 1983 other sub shops have radically changed the industry with exotic breads, toasted sandwiches, tons of toppings selections and sauces galore! And Jimmy John's prices are not slamming the competition anymore. Today their prices are directly comparable to the competition. So if you got a car and a few minutes there is better subs elsewhere for the same price. The Service - 0 Stars (0%) Jimmy John's is a pay first, self-serve restaurant and does not provide wait service. As such I consider a tip as optional and chose not to leave one. We typically provide 20% or more for 5 star service on the pre-tax portion of the bill, 18% for 4, 15% for 3, 12% for 2 and 0% for 1 star service. $5.75 Tuna Club - 2 Stars This tuna sub has every ingredient offered at Jimmy John's, which is about a third of what Subway offers. And Jimmy John's does not have the sauce selection either. So this sub is as boring as it gets. Wonderful tuna on dry boring French bread.... yum! $5.75 Italian Club - 2 Stars This Italian sub has every ingredient offered at Jimmy John's. This sub isn't as bad as the tuna but it is close. The meats were as good as anybody else serves. $5.75 Hunter's Club - 3 Stars This sub was ordered on wheat bread because I was sick of all the French bread. What a wise choice, this was easily the best sandwich we ordered from Jimmy John's. Had this sandwich been toasted, allowing the cheese to melt and the meat to warm up a little, this sandwich would have been awesome. $7.75 Jimmy John's Gargantuan! - 1 Star Really? This less than foot long sub was ordered with everything Jimmy John's offers, and JJ's calls this little thing a "Gargantuan"! It has about the same amount of meat and a third of the toppings as you find on a Subway double meat for the same price. Total Bill: $30.87 for two people including tax and two soda fountain drinks. This is more than two people will normally spend per person at Jimmy John's. Final Thoughts: There is a sign on the wall at Jimmy John's that says: "The customer is USUALLY right!" Well, this customer is certainly right, about Jimmy John's! Sure they will always have those core college customers who are looking for fast and delivered subs, but they aren't cheap anymore. And that opens them up to competition to which they simply don't compare. I truly admire the founder of Jimmy John's who in 1983 at nineteen started the company and has grown it to over one thousand locations. Back then their growth was based on college kids, home delivery, humor and cheap prices. But as their prices climb, and they open locations away from college kids, they are going to encounter customers that expect a little more for their money.

It's a sub shop. Nothing special but friendly staff, fast service, and great subs! Will return soon. Only problem Augusta st is terrible street to navigate during lunch.

What separates this sub shop from subway is the bread as it is the best there is. I get the turkey tom on wheat bread and you have to make sure to ask for the hot peppers and spouts to give it the right kick. As far as the meat goes, It is typical sub shop meat and nothing more. If you like your subs hot or toasted this is not the place for you. But if you want fresh and tasty, you can't go wrong.
