We ate at the bar and had an excellent experience...food quality was perfect, and our bartender gave us excellent very professional service. Ambiance was just as it should be in an old fashioned steak house... They even had cigars for sale, and you could actually smoke them at the bar (it's SC after all).

Tired service and an unfocused mission. This place has lost it's original purpose in my opinion. Food was pretty good but who wants the pay $40-60 a plate for food that comes at you so fast you can't even appreciate it. We had finished half of our salads and been seated for less than 30 minutes and they started dropping entrees. What has happened to the art of a relaxed meal?

Great food. Try the oyster shooters and the chargrilled oysters. Both are awesome. Had the lamb chops and they were two beautiful chops cooked perfectly. Gave it three stars because they allow smoking at the bar and even though they claim to have a great ventilation system, it still trickles into the dining room. They have a gear patio area that should be the smoking area.

We were there for a dear friend's birthday. The staff at the bar is friendly and prompt. The waiting staff could use a lesson or two on etiquette as they fail to properly greet or address your party, or even serve your food on the correct side - this maybe due to the 'coziness' of the setting. Food was very good. Steaks are Pittsburgh sear cooked (otherwise known as "Pittsburgh black"), sides are generous in portion. Overall, a good experience. Food - Very good. Staff - I've seen better Drinks - Comprehensive wine list. They couldn't prepare the martini I wanted so I had beer. Ambience - The perfect spot for a blind date as you won't be able to see each other. Restaurateurs seem to think dark places are either romantic or welcoming when dining. Maybe the lack of proper lighting is meant to conceal something. Pricing - Bring a full wallet.

I judge all steakhouses on the bone in ribeye. It was superb in every way. The atmosphere was classy old steakhouse with plenty of help and attention. It will be my go to when in Greenville.

I love the filet here, it's perfect every time! We had the best waiter named Justin. He is so personable, funny, and never misses a beat. I can't wait to go back!

Hoping that the quality would match the price tag was my mistake. For sure, the steaks are good with a nice Pittsburgh sear, but not great as they were under-seasoned. And the were 6 of us at the table for which this held true. A nice wine list to choose from and good stock levels. Mushrooms fantastic but rest of sides really bland. Service not as attentive or professional as one might expect.

I really like this place. The steaks are good and the oysters are awesome. A couple of years ago I saw a guy belittle a vet at the bar and I was asked to leave. That incident turned me off for a while but I have since come back and seen great food and service.

Surprised. Solid steakhouse. Ambiance was on par with a chain but the food was great. Wine list was good and priced well. Bottle of '10 Tig was $150; fair price. Good standby for a solid steak.

Attended a Bourbon tasting. Very good. Atmosphere was a bit loud for my liking but overall a really great experience.

Easily the best steak in Greenville. The atmosphere is great, the service is terrific, and the prime, pittsburgh style steaks can't be beat!

Damn right it is as good as it gets. This is the only place in the upstate I recommend for steak. The bar is fantastic if you are a cigar smoker. I could not smell any smoke when I was in the Dining rood. These people know their beef.

Went there with a group from work to celebrate the holidays. AMAZING is all I can say. The service is out of this world!! The food was amazing. Do not miss out of the oyster shooters - if you enjoy oysters. Could have eaten 2 or 20 of those...come to think of it maybe I had 20... Had the lobster, what a monster!! Others had the steaks and everyone raved. Bring the bank roll, not cheap by any means. But the experience is definately worth the price.

Sure, it's dark, and in an odd location, the steaks are wonderful - and their mutant gigantic baked potatoes are great. I highly recommend this restaurant for food, service and quality. Sure, it's expensive, but the quality is worth it! Try it once, and you'll be a fan

Classic steakhouse atmosphere with excellent cuts of meat. Service was outstanding. The sides and desert were also good. There were two significant negatives: first the Pittsburgh sear was a little much on my medium rare steak. The burnt flavor over powered the excellent cut of meat. It would be nice to have an option so I could order it without the burnt crust. Second, the cigar smoke was very strong for a non smoker. I would not go back unless they change their smoking policy or improve the ventilation. Dinner for two with wine was $180 plus tip.

We use to go to Ruth Chris which still has a great Cowboy Ribeye. But Chophouse is now our favorite spot when we want spurge. Best Steak in town

Yes! One of the best steakhouses in South Carolina. Tender, juicy steaks, and had the perfect amount of marinade. Great place that had spot on service with a smile. Finger lickin' good.

I love this restaurant! I travel all over the world and this is the only place I trust for a good steak. SERIOUSLY FOLKS. they really know what they are doing, and for that I praise them for a job extremely well done. You will never find a server standing over your table to socialize. This place follows the guidelines that 'we aren't happy if your not happy' . Management is demanding w high standards, but YOU as a customer, reap the rewards. I've been a regular loyal customer for the last 6 years. The only thing I dislike here is the fact that the owners 12 year old complained that the dining room was too dark about 16 months ago. I now sit in the dining room w sunglasses on. The food and service is still awesome. If you want a good piece of prime meat...this is still the place to enjoy.

Chop House 47 is one of our favorite steak places in Greenville. Owned by CentraArchy Restaurant Group, who also owns the California Dreaming Restaurants. The steak is amazing as it is cooked in a special high temp broiler. It is always juicy and flavorful. The scene is very reminiscent of a New York steak house and the prices reflect that too! Everything that comes from the bar is great. The sides are family style and very good. The location, off Pelham road sitting right by I-85 takes away from the ambiance a bit outside, but once you are in the restaurant you will forget all about it. Opentable.com often has 1000 point dining slots for this restaurant!

The short and sweet: When I choose to go to a steakhouse in Greenville, I always make Chop House my first preference. Although it is in an odd location for such a great restaurant, it surpasses any of the downtown establishments (for steak, though not overall cuisine) and makes it worth the trip. While pricey, the high-quality cuts of beef are cooked to perfection, Pittsburgh style, so as to create a crisp crust on the outside using high-temperature broilers. The sides are fantastic and an order of Oysters Rockefeller is always on our table. If the service missteps, which it rarely does, it is swiftly fixed and has often gone beyond our expectations. The whole story: Our most recent trip to Chop House served as another example why I enjoy this restaurant so much. While not the pinnacle of my experiences, I enjoyed my food thoroughly. Good Friday limited my options to seafood only (yup, steakhouse on a no-meat day). As people may tell you it is very dimly lit inside and chances are Sinatra will be playing upon entering. A few drinks at the bar while we waited on our party to arrive and then we were off to the table. Breaking from tradition I ordered the jumbo shrimp cocktail instead the she-crab soup. I didn't care to touch the cocktail sauce however the remoulade has a great spicyness to it that is not overpowering. I then moved to finish the wedge salad on my fiancé's plate, as I am more than willing to help anyone in need. For my entrée I made the painstaking decision to order the 2lb lobster, their smallest size. I chose to have mine broiled (steamed and finished in the grill) while the alternatives are to have them steamed or boiled. The server offered to crack the lobster and remove the meat tableside, though I declined. Tonight I wanted to dig in and do the dirty work myself. Foregoing dessert, a glass of wine capped off another terrific meal. Though a companion did not enjoy the salmon, everyone else enjoyed their meal. After hearing about the salmon the server promptly removed it from the bill. Full Disclosure: I have previously worked for approx. 3 years at another restaurant owned by this company, where I have cooked many similar dishes and am very aware of their service standards. It has been several years since and always bring a fresh mind with my hungry stomach, being honest always.

Chophouse 47 is one of those special occasion places, although pricey the service is impecable, the food is delicious and cooked to perfection. Try the oyster shooters to start , family style portions of sides, the steaks are incredible!

Great steak, maybe the best in greenville, but the cigar smoke drifting in from the bar was almost unbearable. My clothes reek and I have a headache

This is my brother's favorite steakhouse restaurant in Greenville. It's an upscale steak restaurant with very good service and a very unique atmosphere(it's a little dark so recommend you bring a flashlight). I have been here a few times and you can't go wrong with the steaks or seafood. I was a little dissappointed in the lobster I ordered it was a little too mushy but everything else I've ordered has been awesome! If you're a steak fan this is the place for you!

Food and service were great. I am giving this restaurant three stars because of the fact they allow smoking in the bar and although we were dining in the dining room we could still smell the smoke. I hate eating a nice meal surrounded by cig smoke.. gross!

How can this place not be five stars? The boss man took us here as a gesture of appreciation for the mediocre work we put out. I ordered my filet medium rare and it was cooked to perfection: charred on the outside but still rare in the middle. The sides are served family style so I was able to get a taste of everything. The pecan pie, served with vanilla ice cream, was all I hoped it would be. If you're looking for a negative, it's possibly the ambiance. It seems like more a man's spot than a romantic place to take the lady. That is unless your woman appreciates a good steak.

This place deserves 5 stars but they allow cigars. Tips: Ask for a table in the back Order the bone-in filet (if they have it)

Chop House 47 is a classy steak house situated near the freeway across the street from the Wingate Inn. And when I say classy, I mean so dark inside you can barely see where you're walking, hot hostesses, and 3 maybe 4 forks at each place setting. I was not able to order a steak, because unfortunately all the steaks would have put me over my daily per diem. So Tom and I ordered a bunch of orders of fries. Which although delicious did nothing to stem the hunger that ravaged me at 11pm. If you go here, bring a lot of money, and a flashlight.

We are from Chicago, home of great restaurants and especially chophouses. We were in Greenville for a funeral, and went for dinner to Chophouse '47. Had a great dinner! Chris was our waiter. Super service, thanks so much! The wine and food were spectacular! Well done! We will definitely be back next time we are in town!

I stopped by when I was on business and tried out Chop House 47. They have the place setup like an old school mob restaurant, nobody can see anybody (it is dark) so you never know who is in the place. My food was good not great. If you don't know the difference between broiled, grilled and pan cooked steak then you'll be okay here. They broil them, which I've never been a fan of but I wanted to give it another go. I set the steak up for failure before it every hit my plate just because of the way it is cooked. Don't get me wrong I ate the whole thing but I've had better other places in my travels. I don't think I'll be going back mainly because I prefer a different style/taste.

Went here for the first time my husband's birthday. Our server was nice, gave us some good recommendations. I had the sea bass and my husband had a NY strip. The sea bass was delicious, almost buttery and creamy. My stuffed potato side was lackluster, and the grilled asparagus was nothing special. My husband very much enjoyed his steak. The atmosphere is lively, dress is casual.

I really wanted to love this place. It was good. Big problem: smelled like stale cigarette smoke in there. Otherwise bar service was great. Tiffany took care of me and food was good. Chop House 47 salad is ok I 86'd the almonds and was expecting Caesar goodness with bacon. Caesar goodness was there but bacon...not. It was plentiful but not crunchy. Sigh. Center cut 8 oz was ok. I asked for mid rare and technically received it. Meat was not smoothly cooked, center was raw with outer layers at difference temps. Still decent and would go back in a pinch. Dirty Martini was a plus.

Excellent food with good service - what you expect from a restaurant with this sort of price tag. Great place to go when someone else is paying. My group had the seafood platter appetizer - loved the oyster shooters. I got a 10 oz New York strip steak with some assorted sides that we split (my favorite was the cheesy scalloped potatoes). Some of the other sides were not worth the money - namely, the mushrooms and asparagus. Service was fine, and wine and alcohol was good (though no local draft brews - a bit disappointing). Definitely recommended for that next work celebration dinner!

I love that they have the blue cheese stuffed olives here! They are the perfect compliment to a pre-dinner martini. Our group ordered appetizers for the table and took the waiter's advice on the assortment (see pik). I got the petit filet mignon medium rare. It arrived perfectly cooked- seared on the outside and a warm red center. I got the 1 lb baked potato and split it and the Caesar salad. I requested the anchovies with the salad. The anchovies came on the side and were a bit dried out. I finished with the banana cream pie. It did not look as good as it tasted (Yummy- just like Maryann made for Gilligan!). The chocolate cake was good but the size was Chernobyl big.
