Iama Critic Rating - Bucky's Bar-B-Q - 5 Stars 1326 North Pleasantburg Drive, Greenville, SC Overall: This was our second trip to a Bucky's Bar-B-Que. It seems all the locations have a completely different image and ambiance. This time it was in a tiny hole in the wall located in a strip mall on Pleasantburg. We called ahead and asked if they had any AYCE options and they said they did. Turns out their AYCE option is $14 and includes most everything they serve. What an awesome option at a great price. However this location has ZERO ambiance, and reminds us more of a take-out pizza joint than a sit down BBQ dive. However ambiance is of no concern to us and does not affect our rating. We just think you ought to know what you are in for, and it is not intimate or romantic. I would not recommend it for large parties or children. The Service - 0 Stars (0%) This particular Bucky's is a pay first, self-serve restaurant and does not provide wait service. As such I consider a tip as optional and chose not to leave one. However the cashier slash chef slash server was quite helpful and sociable. He also spent some of his time practicing his Japanese Hibachi Show moves, throwing his tools around as he prepared our orders. It was actually quite funny seeing that in a tiny BBQ joint. We typically provide 20% or more for 5 star service on the pre-tax portion of the bill, 18% for 4, 15% for 3, 12% for 2 and 0% for 1 star service. The Food: $13.99 AYCE BBQ & Unlimited Sides - 5 Stars This price included unlimited drink refills. The Meats: Smoked Chicken - 5 Stars (Excellent) Pulled Pork - 5 Stars (Excellent) Smoked Ribs - 4 Stars (Great flavor but a bit dry) Unfortunately brisket was not included in the AYCE selection! The Sides: Mac & Cheese - 5 Stars (simply the best) Cajun Pinto Beans - 5 Stars (Phenomenal beans) Pickled Cucumbers & Onions - 4 Stars Sweet Potato Crunch - 5 Stars (Awesome) Cole Slaw - 3 Stars (Rather ordinary) Texas Toast - 3 Stars (Not toasted) Green Beans - 3 Stars (They are green beans, nothing special) There were some optional sides that we considered ordinary, so we did not try. The Cajun pinto beans and mac & cheese were simply outstanding. Some of the best we ever tasted due to the excellent flavor and spices. Total Bill: $45.33 for three people including tax. Final Thought: At only $14.00 this AYCE BBQ is a phenomenal value and earned Bucky's an additional star over its Donaldson Center location. Not only were the meats great, but two of the sides were the best we every tasted.

Best BBQ in Greenville! Very fast, affordable, and friendly! I love Bucky's! This restaurant makes me feel like I'm literally at a backyard barbeque, haha. To be honest, I would eat here everyday if I could. It's so delicious and it's great old-fashioned bbq.

It's looks like a dive from the outside, but inside it's super clean. The barbeque is really good, legit off the smoker pulled pork and ribs. Every plate comes with two sides and a drink. My only complaints- a crumbly bun and the serve yourself drink station. There was a scoop for the ice that each patron touched with their hand, then dropped back into the ice. Invest in an ice machine that dispenses and get five stars, Bucky!

I wish I hadn't have gotten there 5 minutes before they closed because they were out of a lot of what I wanted to try. I got the pork plate with mac & cheese and green beans. I thought the meat had good flavor but the texture was a little mushy for my liking (disclaimer: I am not from South Carolina so this might be the norm for the region). The mac & cheese was very good. The green beans were just green beans. I wanted to try the sweet potato crunch, but the guy in front of me got the last of it. I liked the mustard-based sauce better than the red one, but neither one were spicy enough for my palate. I'd go back for a second visit if I'm ever in the area again.

Me and my lady really enjoyed our lunch. We both had the pulled pork plate and our sides were sweet potato crunch, tater salad, cole slaw, mac n cheese...they also let us sample the ribs. Everything we had was excellent and I only wish they had one of their restaurants closer to us in Myrtle Beach. 4 thumbs up and 5 stars all the way around!!!

Great BBQ and fantastic mac & cheese (I got a double order) for lunch. Inexpensive, but it's a no-frills situation. I'm a fan...

This food was AMAZING!!!! I have never considered myself a BBQ person... mostly, because I have never found any BBQ that I thought was good. When I think of BBQ, I think of "down home". Nice juicy meats and side dishes like what you find at Grandma's. Bucky's is a wonderful find. We went a couple of days ago, and it was all that the Yelpers said it was. The ribs were great.. the chopped pork was flavorful (just a tad dry)... and the sides were wonderful. We pretty much stuck to the Mac and Cheese and the Sweet Potato Crunch. Both were as great as all the Yelpers have told you. Mutts just isn't worth what you pay... and you couldn't pay me enough to return to a Sonny's. Bucky's is worth the drive... any day. (Except on Sunday... cause they're closed :) good for you Bucky's)

This place is great. The people are very friendly and the meat has the smoke taste that it is supposed to have. The owner has a great story and is super nice. I recently saw where is is competing and winning some awards for his BBQ. I heard on the radio the other day that he is one of the chosen ones to help with Bovinoche Cow Roast. I look forward to returning

Not so sure why everyone likes this place so much. Don't get me wrong - The bbq isn't horrible, it just isn't remarkable. Everything is just ok. The prices are ok, the chicken is ok, the brisket is ok... Blah.

I made the trip to Bucky's last week (3/13/15). This was one of 6 stops across the state of SC. We ate at the 1326 North Pleasantburg Drive location. We arrived at 11am and were greeted by a catering truck delivering large metal containers of meat and sides. This was concerning that there was no smoker located on the premises but rather it's all trucked in from one of their other locations. The staff inside was very pleasant and explained that this is done for quality control of the meat. I understand this but I still prefer to see a stack of wood and a pitmaster standing out back tending to his craft. The pulled pork was minced but moist. It lacked any real smoke flavor which I like to taste. I didn't see a lot of "bark" in our batch of meat. The ribs were very good but not amazing. I tried the BBQ beans which were very good. Also, the sweet potato casserole was also well worth trying. Bucky's is worth your stop if traveling through SC.

Not exactly sure why everyone thinks so highly I this place. I went today for lunch during work and to be honest, I wasn't really impressed. First, the store itself was kid of dinghy and dimly lit. Not really any decorations or anything like that. Secondly, the BBQ is nothing to write home about. It was kind of bland and lukewarm. There were a couple of flies flying around the food preparation are, which really bothered me. For those reasons. I am giving this place a 3 stars.

Absolutely delicious. I got the light plate (smaller portion of pork, same calories) and it was just enough. Mustard sauce was wonderful. Sides were hot and delicious and the tea was sweet. I took a group of visiting Yankees who had never had real Southern style barbecue and everyone loved it. This is definitely my go to barbecue place.

Great bar b q ! Nothing fancy, just good value and taste. Try the lighter plate - a full meal. Good for take out - ready, quick service.

It took me a little while to make sure that I was going to be pleased with my Bucky's experience. The location is a little awkward, the dining area has a blast-from-the-past feel, and the guys at the counter maintain unnervingly polite conversation as they chop away with big meat cleavers. At first, I kind of felt like I was walking into a trap... a BBQ disaster... but I was wrong! A pulled pork sandwich with two sides and a sweet tea will only cost you SEVEN BUCKS! These plates are affordable, enormous, and delicious. I was more than pleased with the pork--moist, tender, awesome. I opted for the mustard sauce. That stuff is good. The mac and cheese is not overly creamy or overly cheesy--and I love the extra black pepper! The sweet baked beans are tasty--nothing tremendously special. The sweet potato crunch is everything dreams are made of. Bucky's is the kind of place that will serve you more food than you think you can eat--and more food than you think SHOULD eat--but you will eat it all anyway because it is soooo gooood.

Good for a quick and tasty lunch. Nothing special in the decor, but it fits the bill.

If you look through my profile, you'll see I eat BBQ all over the country. I had the BBQ sandwich here. Short review? Best I've ever had. Damn near the perfect sandwich. If I'm ever in Greenville again, I'll most definitely come back.

I'd give Buckys 5-stars if they'd add a little more side items to the menu...but the smoke-filled pork is the best anywhere - loaded with the bark, the pink halo, and the meat. 22-hours of boston butt perfection. It needs no sauce to make up for missing flavor or cooked out dryness, but the homebrew sauces are worth a few dips.

If you are on a budget and want AMAZING food. Go here! My husband and I have work trips in Greenville and we came here the first time in March of 2013. We had been told we HAD to come here by multiple people and, wow were we floored. The BBQ is amazing (I don't say that lightly) but holy cow the sweet potato crunch was to die for! (I just told my husband I was writing about the casserole and he's lamenting not being able to have some right now) lol. Have mercy...Anyway, the price is fantastic. I will say if you want to get in and out come before 6. It gets a little busy after that. If you can't they do a great job of moving the line. This is a must try if you are in Greenville!

On a recent trip to Greenville, my boyfriend and I (both from out-of-state) had one major goal for our trip: to eat some really (REALLY) good BBQ. Heeding our request, his parents took us to Bucky's for a lunch that met our high expectations. For just $7 apiece we got a pork sandwich plate and a pork plate. Each came with two sides and a drink. Admittedly, I'm not a BBQ connoisseur, but I don't think my mouth was fooling me about how delicious the pork was. I could have eaten it without sauce, but why would I do that when the sauce is so good? I couldn't help but douse my sandwich in the mustard sauce. The sides at Bucky's are just as good as the main event. The sweet baked beans are fantastic, the macaroni and cheese excellent (and exceptionally cheesy), and not even my granny can make a better cucumber salad than what they served me. There was more than enough food on my plate to fill me up, but I would have gone back for seconds, thirds, and fourths if I could have. Definitely a great experience.

Out of town to visit an old friend who knows how much I love good BBQ, he took me Buckys. My lord, this easily among the beat BBQ I have ever eaten in a commercial establishment. The sweet potato crunch is so good it made me order it the day after thanksgiving. Doesn't get much better than the green beans either. Really, really good place. Ricky went from being an old pal tonight to my best bud!

I got the Pulled Pork plate with a side of sweet potatoes and cole slaw. The pork is fantastic and the mustard BBQ sauce goes perfect with it. The slaw is a bit generic, but the sweet potatoes are great. A little sweet, but have a really good praline flavor. You get a good serving for the $ too.

Good BBQ and I'm picky. Tea is too sweet for me and there are no fries because they don't fry any food here. I do like to go but not my favorite.

Yum. I don't give many 5-star ratings, but if I lived in the Upstate then this would be on of my favorite/regular lunch destinations. Nestled in with the Lake Forest Shopping Center, it's easy to miss if you're not already familiar with its location. And from the outside it has that 'greasy spoon' diner feel to it (which should have been an indicator), but one step inside and all my senses were telling me I just walked into Grandma's house. Oh, boy! The operation here was simple, which was nice. There was one feller at the counter taking orders, and another feller next to him chopping pork and dishing out sides as fast as the orders were coming in. They could've probably used a dose of personality each, but they were efficient so I'm not complaining. I got the pork plate, which came with a slice of bread, 2 sides and a drink for $7. My one complaint here was that they didn't have hushpuppies (and 1 slice of bread wasn't enough). What kind of BBQ joint doesn't make hushpuppies? But I digress.... For my sides I went with the mac 'n cheese and sweet potato crunch (with sweet tea). I also got a small cup of their hot sauce when I heard a coworker ask for some. The pork itself was tender and had great flavor. I had a couple of huge chunks of skin that had a beautiful crust on it. Once I added that special sauce, the entree was taken over the top. At first lick it's a bit sweet, but then it comes back around and wraps your tongue in the Figure-Four (Wooooo!). The mac 'n cheese was really creamy and some of the best I remember in recent years. I think I figured out this may be due, in part, to the extra black pepper dotting the golden deliciousness. And then there was the sweet potato crunch. Some of my coworkers thought it was too sweet, but I thought it was spot-on. The mash was creamy with a few chunks/cubes of sweet potato mixed in, and then the candied pecan topping was charred and a blessing from the good Lord. The tea, which is just as important as every other component of the meal at a BBQ joint, was well received. I should have just gotten a whole plate to take home, but I did purchase extra tubs of the macaroni & SPC (the "crunch" got soft after sitting all day, but it was still great) to take home with me.

As good as it gets ! I am from N.C. and know my Bbq pretty well ! It is like a religion in N.C. ! The meat has a good deep smokey taste like I enjoy ! The Sweet tater crunch side is almost addictive ! I buy a big pan of it , and have it for Thanksgiving meals every year . It is always the star of the show ( Gone ... ) ! All the meats at Buckeys are delicious , but the Ribs and Chicken are fall off the bone tender , and my favorite ! I find it hard to go to other Bbq joints in Greenville area , as I find myself judging them by Buckeys , and being disappointed ? It is hard to find actual wood smoked meats in SC , but Buckeys is the real deal ! Try it you'll love it ... My name is Stan....and I approve this message !

You'd do well to arrive a bit early if you would like to eat lunch at Bucky's. Their parking lot is full by noon most weekdays, and seating yourself is a bit like navigating the high seas: so, if you see an opening, grab it! Don't worry - you'll have your reward. What do you prefer today: quarter chicken? Half chicken? Pulled pork? You can be sure it's cooked to mouth-watering perfection. Why not add a side of macaroni and cheese or savory green beans? All orders are served with a classic slice of white bread (for sopping up the awesome juices, of course), and sauces that will make you wish you could slap your mama (though we know you never would).
