We ordered croquettes and got shrimp chips instead. We asked where the croquettes were and he said that the chips WERE the croquettes. We were a bit confused so we described croquettes to him and showed him pictures from our phone. Croquettes are nothing like shrimp chips so I don't know how they mixed that up. He just said "hmm... never seen that before. These chips are what we call croquettes." Then went about his business like "well, too bad." This was very disappointing. We've been to The Netherlands and there is no ambiguity about what a croquette is. They are an extremely popular Dutch food item and it's absurd to try to serve shrimp chips instead and then tell us "well, that's what WE call croquettes." Can you put lobster on a menu then serve chicken instead and say "that's what WE call a lobster"? I guess I'll have to keep searching (or go back to The Netherlands) if I want an actual Dutch croquette. Very disappointing. And it was annoying that the server didn't seem to give a lick either. The rest of the food was fine. Nothing to write home about, but good enough. But the croquette debacle kind-of ruined the experience.

Charging $1.50 for a glass of tap water is insane, especially when every person at the table has ordered an alcoholic drink. Interestingly, the top of the menu states "please drink responsibly", yet discourages patrons from drinking water by charging them for it? I will not be going back to Addy's.

Had a very enjoyable time our waiter was awesome and a dead ringer for Andy Samburg. wine was ample size, good quality and priced right. Owner very nice. I'm not a big fan of German Dutch but enjoyed my meal and experience.

Cozy restaurant with a nice menu. Some places try to put everything on the menu. Addy's focuses on what matches their cuisine and doesn't have so many choices that their food suffers. Good selection of beer, although it's all bottled.

We recently discovered that Wednesday night at Addy's is "schnitzel night"...the one night a week they go through the effort of making schnitzel. Oh, what a night. We were there last night (Wednesday, of course), and I came to 2 conclusions: 1. Addy's jaegerschnitzel is quite possibly the best plate of food available in Greenville. 2. In fact, it may just be the perfect plate of food. Never have I finished a serving of red cabbage...and with my German/Polish background, it's been served to me lots and LOTS of times. I don't know how they do it, but the red cabbage at Addy's is less sweet (my biggest complaint about cabbage, usually) and has more savory elements than what I'm used to. At Addy's, I cleaned my plate...and if there had been more on the plate, I would have finished that, too :)

They charge you $1.50 for TAP WATER even when you order an alcoholic beverage. Additionally, our waitress failed to inform us that we needed to purchase $10 worth of items to charge a card until she brought the checks to our table. Cheap is cheap, won't be going back.

LOVED THIS PLACE.. Came here for some beers with a coworker while visiting Greer. Amazingly cozy, amazingly great beer selection and you feel like your in Amsterdam. I've been to the European city of Sin and this did do a good job at replicating the feel of A-dam. I LOVE, LOVE Belgian beer so this place hit the spot for me. I started off light with a Dutch Bavaria, it was ice cold and served in its own glass. This followed with a RARELY available hard to find in the US Maredsous! OMG, i was in heaven. Thanks to the bearded bartender for the good convo. I will have to visit again if in town. Great place for a beer with the lads!

The look and feel of this place is great! I have been to the Netherlands and this is just like a bar in downtown Amsterdam. The drawback to all the charm, it costs! This place is extremely expensive compared to its counterparts in the area. I enjoy stopping here and listening to some down tempo lounge music, but I rarely can afford to stay for several drinks... I highly suggest trying it out as its charm is unique within downtown for sure... Enjoy!

First of all make a reservation! The place is small so table seating is limited. We were able to eat at one of the bar tables and got great service! Atmosphere was nice. Music wasn't too loud and for a bar it wasn't too rowdy except for the polluted Germany couple trying to sing songs from the sound of music We had the goulash which was stewed beef over mashed potatoes and a vinegar cabage on the side. It was all seasoned perfectly and tasted great! The swedish meatballs were served over mashed potatoes and it too was great. The Danish cheese sampler had a great variety of tasty cheeses and crackers. Topped it off with a egg nog creme Brule. It was very sweet and very rich...wasn't feeling it but overall I enjoyed my dinner!

We arrived early on a Friday, no need for a reservation, very friendly and fast service. Great beer selection, good wine selection. Dinner came fast and was excellent. The snitzel, the goulash and the stroganoff were all hot and flavorful. Plenty of mashed potatoes and red cabbage. The creme brûlée was creamy and a little sweet. Over, highly recommend it.

Owner is a drunk asshole. Food sucks always out of stuff says steak is filet when it's sirloin with tons of tenderizer on it. Don't waste your time or money

Great place and very kind and generous people! I left my phone there on a Saturday night and Nina kept it for me until they reopened and is sending it to me in Atlanta at her expense! Blown away by her kindness. Love to support good people running great establishments!

My wife and I used to go here a lot but hadn't been in over a year. So we decided to try Addy's tonight for dinner. When we were brought to our table by the bartender/maitre'd/waiter we asked to sit at one of the larger tables where we have sat many times in the past without a problem. But tonight we we're told those were reserved for parties of 5 or more. The place was empty on a Friday night at 6:30pm and had fewer people there when we left. Instead we were seated at a tiny table back by the kitchen. We should have known it was a bad decision when we asked what happened to the old menu that had our favorite dishes. Instead of the old menu we were handed a piece laminated paper with about a 1/4 of what was on the old menu. We were told by the bartender that they had a new chef and they they had to change up the menu offerings to what was selling. We ordered the cheese plate to start at $12. When it came out there had maybe, I say maybe 20 pieces of very thinly sliced cheese. The crackers that came were not crisp and fresh but soft and stale.. We both ordered dinner. My wife went with the Beefstuk. At $25 a plate you would have thought it would come with more than two pieces of fat riddled kabob meat hidden under some under cooked onions and crappy gravy from a jar. I got the goulash.. It was ok but it came in something the size of a cereal bowl..Again at $15 I would have thought the serving size would have been a bit bigger. Oh and I almost forgot the $16 we paid for two beers. My wife went to the ladies room and came back appalled at how filthy it was. Toilet stained with who knows what, grimy floors, dust built up on the floor trim, dust caked to the exhaust fan and wall underneath it.. If the bathrooms are any indication of the overall cleanliness of the restaurant I'd hate to see what the kitchen looks like and would be hesitant to eat here again. When our bill came it was over $70. I don't mind paying that kind of money for dinner. But for what they are charging you had better get the service and quality of food you would get at one of downtown Greenville's nicer restaurants. Getting back to the change in menu selections. From our experience it wasn't changed based on what people have been ordering but on what people aren't ordering because no one is eating there. To make up for this they are charging way too much money for the quantity and quality of food they are presenting to their guests.

Great little spot off the main strip of downtown. It's a dimly lit place with a few tables and a small bar; that all helps makes this place wonderful. It wasn't packed with noisy hipsters claiming that "the latest micro-micro-vegan-microbrew had a rosy hops finishing note when the..." blah blah blah. If you want that crap, stay on Main. They do have a nice variety of beers, don't get me wrong! The beer menu gives gods descriptions of what is stocked. There is also a full bar if you would like the strong stuff. The food was excellent. Starting out with the Sizzling Chili Shrimp was a good move. The sauce was spicy but not all at once and the shrimp were large and tender. My friend and I actually got some bread to dip in the sauce when the shrimp were gone. It was that good. I ordered the Goulash and was not disappointed. Very tender beef and lumpy mashed potatoes, everything as expected. My pal went the Indo-Dutch route and he was happy with his selection. He ordered a beef dish with the noodles (forgive me, I don't remember the name of it). Good music, quiet atmosphere on a Saturday night, and many choices on the drink and food fronts is what will keep me coming back.

This place is great. Wonderful bartenders and great beer selection. Food is unique and well prepared. One star taken off for HORRIBLE elevator music during dinner. Thankfully, they changed it after numerous customers complained.

I've been coming here for years and love this place. This is the original Dutch Cafe in Greenville. Good food, the Mustard soup is a must try when they have it. Go during Christmas time and you'll walk in to a glowing restaurant that has a great atmosphere.

The first three dish I ordered off the menu were out of stock the waiter never mentioned they were out of anything before I tried to order.

I would consider this a hidden gem in downtown. The ambiance at night is definitely luring when walking by the place. The inside is truly comforting and the atmosphere is fitting to it's name. As we were seated, I enjoyed the fact that they were playing classic jazz as their background music. However, sometimes they switch it up to different genre of music, but ambient for sure. Though it's a dutch restaurant, I find it very odd that they offer vindaloo. But regardless, their food is amazing! Be sure to get their jaegerschinitzel. Hands down, good stuff! This place is a must when exploring Greenville. Forget the usual Ale House, go to Addy's if you want to enjoy a nice meal, beer, and camaraderie!

Cozy bar off the beaten path. I'd highly recommend their mussels and spinach artichoke dip, but I'd say wait until 830-9 to get there - it's pretty dead before then. There seemed to be a loyal clientele and I'd be happy to start considering myself a part of them.

I have learned from reading reviews both in Yelp and TripAdvisor that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. I read one review that stated that the place had been renovated last year. But in our opinion Addy's is just a bit better than a dump. If you look closely you can see dirt and grease on the floor. The table tops are worn, two prong plugs have six or seven wires coming out of them and the whole ambiance is one of a run down bar. We went for the Indonesian food. My wife had sate which at best was so-so. I had Hungarian goulash...terrible. Our friend had snitzle and it smelled and tasted tainted so she sent it back. If you are looking for good food, look elsewhere. The bar, if you are interested, may be what you want...a lot of imported beers. Otherwise, don't bother.

. ADDYS Dutch Cafe in Greenville SC has reopened after renovation. New Menu is awesome. It is an unusual downtown gem He has a great new menu with some awesome food. He has been back open two days and I have gone twice and almost eaten my way through the menu. Indonesian dishes like Rendang and Gulai and some mussels in a provencal broth. I don't think anything is over $10. The Vindaloo is awesome. All the flavors really seen to pop. This is one of the oldest place in downtown Greenville. 17 E. Coffee St

This place is fantastic. It has a great selection of beer and the food was marvelous. One of the best salmon dishes I have ever had. Also has a great gluten menu, which is a must these days.

I brought my friend here for her birthday, but we must have gotten our signals crossed with the waitress because she only took my order and not my friend's. We enjoyed a chat as the waitress went back and forth, but she never did return to take her order, and we kept wondering if this were standard procedure here or if we needed to say something.. We waited like what seemed forever for the food to arrive. We entered around 8 pm and I got my schnitzel after 9 pm. People who came in after us were eating before we were. We shared the schnitzel and left, still hungry and confused. It was a bizarre experience.

Addy's pulls off the air of an old-time, Dutch country inn. It's a fun place to dine and has an attentive staff. The space is dark with wood covered walls and a timbered ceiling. You can easily imagine you are in Europe. The wide selection of European beers helps further the mood. The menu is authentic, traditional Dutch cuisine. Addy, the owner, is nuts about soup and there is always a hearty one or two among the daily specials. Try the erwtensoep, split pea soup; it's not for vegetarians. Also good is the potato leek soup.

Christmas and New Years at Addy's is a special time. The owner strings up all kinds of Christmas lights and it makes the cozy atmosphere that much more inviting. We definitely encourage him to keep it up longer. Very enjoyable time. Not a party bar. Just a great place to sit, relax, gather with your friends and have a beer.

I'd say this is the best place to get a drink downtown. Bars downtown are either too crowded or feel like someone lopped the bar off a suburban bar and grill and plopped it on Main Street. Well this place is neither. I'd walked past it for years without going on, but earlier this month I went in and didn't regret it. It has a quaint, laid-back atmosphere. Our waitress was incredibly friendly. The beer menu is also great, offering both the cheaper, blander options and a variety of interesting Dutch beers served in interesting (Dutch?) glasses. My major quibble is that the only beer on tap is, inexplicably, Guinness. I haven't had any main courses, but the slice of chocolate cake I had was delicious, if a bit dry.

I love this place. Having lived in Europe for a year during my Master's, it reminds me so much of the Netherlands. The menu is not Dutch but... In the Netherlands you just come across people from everywhere so it's ok. Very tasty and great beer selection. Love you Addy's!!!

The guy "Addy" who owns this place moved to Greenville from the Netherlands like 20 years ago. (Quite an interesting character.) The scene in downtown Greenville is comparable to some European cities. This truly feels like a Belgian Bar. FYI: Addy will ask you to remove your hat at the door (he says it's to keep the 'rednecks' out). I was working in Greenville with 2 guys from Belgium and we stopped in for a drink every night. Even they were impressed with the vibe this place gives off. The best thing about this place is the selection of beer. Watch out, the Belgian Beers are very strong, but tasty. If you're ever in Greenville, it's worth stopping by Addy's for a beer.

I really like the atmosphere here. The mustard soup was excellent. I also had the Sate but it had way to much sauce for my taste. My girlfriend got some cabbage, potatoes and steak that was much better. The beer selection is unique for Greenville so if i am in the mood for Belgian it is nice to have a place to go to. No real complaints. Would recommend!

What a great place! Lots of atmosphere with a large selection of imports. Food is very good with one of the better cheese & cracker trays in town.

Yeah, I like Addy's as well. Dark, cozy, smokey, and a decent amount of beer choices. Too bad they don't sell any dope though....but that's because of our laws :) . After many visits, I realized that they have an upstairs area as well.

Hole in the wall does begin to describe this place, for a while I thought it was of the corner pocket it is so hidden on this street. killer food and a unquie beer selection make it worth finding this gem

Cool old school vibe. Makes one feel like he is not in Greenville. The shnitzel is top notch. I'm a bit worried about this place, though. Servers didn't know much aboutthe menu. In fact, much of the menu was not available. Same for the beer list. I was one of four people in there at 7 on a Wednesday. Not a good sign.

Okay, so I have to admit I haven't been here in 8 years or so. BUT- I do remember this place as a fun nook in downtown to drink some good beer. If my memory serves me right, it's dark bar filled with a less generic of a crowd you'd find at other bars in downtown Greenville. Don't hold me to this, but def check it out.

  • Sheridan P.

a loud and fun place. everyone is usually really chill--servers and customers. there is also an upstairs dining area. not sure if they open it regularly, as i was only up there once for a birthday party. definitely a cool place to hang out.

Addy's is still the best little nook in Greenville for a tasty beer and a fine dinner. A few steps into the place and you feel like you're in Amsterdam. It's a real Dutch pub run by a real dutch guy. It may be Greenville's best kept secret. Every time I take a new group of friends there, they are amazed at the great food and the fact that they have never been there before. If you go and it's your first time, be sure to get the Bahmi. You'll find it no place else in town.

Great waitress and good beer...that's about all the good I can say! I bought a gift certificate to Addy's Dutch Cafe & Restaurant through Restaurant.com and went out with a friend to have dinner there. I gave the waitress my certificate and we ordered dinner and drinks. The food was adequate - too heavy and a bit bland taking in consideration both of the meals we ordered. As we waited on our bill, we were told by the waitress (very apologetically) that Addy, the owner, wasn't going to honor our gift certificate. He had ended his relationship with Restaurant.com and although they had taken my money and I'm sure compensated him, he was quite rude about the whole thing. Our tab was almost $60 and the gift certificate was only $25. If he had sincerely apologized and comped maybe 1 meal..without being rude..I would have been okay with it. I also didn't understand why with my Dutch last name, I didn't get a single bit of sympathy from the guy. NEVER going to Addy's again. Cozy bar/restaurant in a great location but watch out for the Manager. Even the waitress said it was extremely hard working for him the way he treated his customers.
