I visit this restaurant frequently. The food is always excellent, the atmosphere is very pleasant, and the price is right. The food is well presented, not just your basic beans and rice tossed on a plate. Extra care is taken to make it pleasing to the eye as well as the taste buds. The Fish Tacos are my favorite, but there are many good options! Alas, a good local Mexican restaurant with real flair!

I decided to check this place out based solely on the two previous yelp reviews. The location of this place in a strip of stores raised my suspicion. Upon entering I was kindly greeted by a young server and since it was only 4 in the afternoon he offered me to sit anywhere in the dining room. The dining room really isn't much for decor but wasn't really a game changer but it wouldn't hurt to do something to the place or at least paint the walls something other than a bright aqua color. While I was reviewing the expansive menu the proverbial free chips and salsa were provides for my appetizer. I would like to add that their happy hour starts pretty early (3 pmish?) and I was obliged to take advantage by ordering a 24 oz. Dos equis. The chips were crisp and almost tasted homemade which I was unsure of and the salsa was very tasty, it was not a bland blend of tomato paste with some cilantro and spice. But very flavorful with just the right amount of kick. For my main course I decided to be a little risqué, since I was unfamiliar with the quality of food here and ordered the shrimp ceviche. It was indeed flavorful, but it was served to me with saltine crackers. I have never had it served to me like this anywhere, so I asked the waiter for some tostadas or chips. He brought me back some tostadas which made the mechanism for getting this food into my mouth way tastier than saltines. The only other thing I noticed about the shrimp ceviche was the shrimp. It appeared to have been pre-cooked and possibly canned salad shrimp which where used. This to me is somewhat unacceptable I would have preferred either larger previousy frozen shrimp or fresh shrimp that were cut down to smaller bite size pieces instead of canned shrimp. Also it cheapens the meal because there is a texture that is unmistakeable to me with seafood that has been cooked in the acid of the citrus. Overall good meal but there is room for improvement and I think this could really be a stand out mexican place. I will go back and try something else.

Just Ok. Ordered take out but was not too impressed with the food. Have had much better elsewhere. Staff was great, very friendly, just need the cook to match.

Very authentic Mexican food. The molcajete was really fantastic. The owner even brought over some home made hot sauce. This is not Americanized Tex mex.

Not impressed at all. Order the Texas fajitas. Way to salty. Overbearingly salty. Waiter was very nice but do not think we will return. Food just not that good.

Ehh not so good. Burnt eggs. Waiter was barely a pimp. Atmosphere was very god like. Will never return.

Let me preface this review by saying that I eat here at least 2-4 times a week. It is my go-to restaurant when I can't decide what I want to eat. I crave it, and if you've ever eaten Acapulco's Carnitas, you would know why. If your idea of good Mexican food is a Chimichanga, you will find it here, and it will be good. However, Acapulco's specialty is food beyond the dull Mexican local chains' offerings. The food is prepared fresh, and you can taste the difference in dishes like Mango Salmon, Carne Asada, the best Ceviche around, and my personal favorite - Carnitas (sauteed pork and grilled onions served on a sizzling skillet - AMAZING!). In addition to the delicious food, the service is always wonderful, the restaurant is always clean, and the food/price is an excellent value. I highly recommend this place!

We did not eat in. We were looking for late night mexican and Acapulcos was open. So, take out it was. The little bit of service I did get was good and everyone was very friendly. I love the decor, it definitely gave off a Mexican vibe. The restaurant was clean and spacious. Food on the other hand, not bad, Nothing to rave about, but it was good. Typical might be the best way to describe it. A bit pricey for the quality. Main reason we went here was for the chip and queso. Chip was fresh, but queso was watery and had a very mild cheese flavor to it. I've had better, much better. Will we be going back? Maybe, but more than likely we'd try another location out first...

I thought this place was pretty nice. Atmosphere was 5 stars. Service was 5 stars. The food was good quality Mexican, not your typical "combination #3" Americanized place. Prices were higher than usual, but probably reflective of the food quality.

Lesson learned on this one... we did not realize this Mexican restaurant did not serve the typical taco salad nor special burrito! Neither was the lunch menu served on Sundays. However, we will try anything or any place once, and found the items we ordered not the value of the $30 bill for the two of us. Staff were super friendly, but service a little slow.

Food was tasty as was Margarita but overpriced for small portions. They take portion control to a whole different level. Margarita for $8 that seemed like 6 ounce.

Start by saying this place is REALLY good. It's not your typical Mexican place though. It's not a place with $5 meals, free salsa bar, and cheap pitchers of margaritas. It is definitely more high quality, gourmet. The owner is also the chef and he came out to ask how everything was and also told us that all the ingredients are organic and local as much as possible. They also work with a local tortilleria who makes all of their tortillas fresh every few days. The tortillas were amazing. As someone who has lived in Mexico and Ecuador I can say this place is worth the extra money. Authentic, delicious.

Unlike the carbon copy chain Mexican restaurants, Acapulcos is the real deal. The food is creative, the presentation is clean, and the taste is unequaled. We have never been disappointed the many times we have dined at this restaurant. The atmosphere is whimsical and cheerful, and the wait staff is always helpful and friendly. What more could you want? We especially like the healthy nature of the food. Do yourself a favor and check it out.

ordered texas fajitas for 2, good size portion, not as good as el jalisco, mocejete etc, not bad either just not top notch, server and food runner both were excellent , the mixed drinks i ordered were a lil high priced for the watered down cocktails i received , drinking 3 and a half drinks and not much buzz, the cheese dip was all jalepenos and hardly any cheese, over all i would go back but if there was another mex rest closer id probably stop there instead, id say this is the kind of place id go if another place was too busy to seat me

DO NOT stop! The organic and " not your typical Mex restaurant " descriptions interested me. Organic? Yes, you can buy organic food in cans and bags. Typical Mex? I would rather eat Taco Bell than at this place. Zero flavor, canned chicken, veggies, and beans. Elementary school cafeterias serve more flavorful and fresh meals. The only redeeming quality is the staff.

If it was not so expensive I would give it two stars. I want to say that the waiter was fantastic, awesome guy, knew what he was doing. The good words end there. The cheapest burrito plate was 11 bucks and with 2 for tea, the bill with tax was 14. In the fifteen dollar range I can sure do better. The dish was three burritos (beef, chicken, cheese) covered in salsa and cheese sauce. This was a mess, and not in a good way. The beef was the finely ground boiled beef that lesser mexican places are known for. No flavor to speak of. It is beef, brown it and salt it and there you go. The chicken was shredded, and a bit dry. For a place with those prices, I would expect a little better atmosphere. we have an aqua colored map of Acapulco on one wall, and the three amigos on the other one. I don't think I will be back.

I'm addicted to their puerco verde and their verde salsa. Fresh made table guacamole and the salsas are great!!! Big fan of the staff. Haven't had an opportunity to try their margaritas, but can't wait.

The last time I went, the owners appear to have preformed a make-over with new décor, new layout and a streamlined menu. Unfortunately they have removed ALL of the items we liked on the menu. They have also doubled the average price of a meal or in some cases more. They seem to be going for a more upscale dining experience but they didn't improve the food, only streamlined the menu. It seems they were struggling to fill they're dinning room so I can understand the effort to change, but with the changes they've made, I will not be going back.

Fun environment. They have done some interior renovations but while the decor is fresher, the food is not. WAY overpriced for what you get, they charge for extra chips (who does that??). The drinks are basically alcohol-free they are so watered down. There is no reason to be in this area and not go to bacon bros instead. I hope they step up their game and get it together, but I have a feeling when the new taco place opens up next door its going to "eat their lunch."

Iama Critic Rating - Acapulcos - 3 Stars 3620 Pelham Road, Suite 4, Greenville, SC Overall: Entrees ranged the gamut from fabulous to downright disappointing, service was SLOW!!! This restaurant is so dark I had to use night vision mode on my camera, so my Facebook album photos are rather dark. $13 Steak Fajitas - 2 Stars I took pictures of the plate of condiments I received with this steak fajita entree. The rice was cutely presented but bland, the beans were too runny and the salad could be used with your fajitas, or mixed and eaten separately. The salad was a nice mix, with some good guacamole. But we didn't even bother to take a picture of the steak fajitas as they arrived long after the sizzle, the veggies were lifeless and the entire plate looked utterly sad. Some of the worse fajitas I have ever seen much less had to eat! $16 Steak Acapulco - 2 Stars The menu picture shows a huge chicken breast, plump steak and many succulent shrimp. Nothing like the meager chicken breast, and very thin grade "B" steak I got. The rice was boring and I had no idea what that sauce was. It wasn't cocktail sauce for the decent shrimp. It tasted somewhat like spicy marinara. As we stated previously the little side salad was pretty good. But the meat served on this entree was an epic failure. Papa's and Beer blows Acapulcos away in price and flavor. $9 Acapulcos Quesadilla - 4 Stars Not a bad price for what my guest said was "The best Mexican he had ever had in his life". My guest is a definite Mexican restaurant NOOBY! And his rating needs to be taken with a grain of salt. We have already stated that the side salads/condiments are very good, with a nice blend of lettuce, veggies and guacamole. My guest said the Quesadilla was the "best ever". But the boring rice cannot be ignored. $15 Burrito Grande - 2 Stars Served with nothing but cheese sauce on top of it. I added a drizzle of hot sauce to add a little color to the otherwise boring presentation. This burrito is nothing more than a slightly larger version of your average Mexican restaurant burrito, except that it is priced too steep. For comparison Papa's and Beer charges $14.99 for their utterly awesome MEGA BURRITO, which slaughters Acapulcos burrito grande in size, taste and price. Conclusion: Acapulcos prices were pretty steep compared to the dozens of Mexican restaurants we have been too. Our waitress, "Server #4" was terribly slow and would forget what she was doing for us the second she walked away. After waiting for our chips quite some time, we finally had to get up and ask for salsa. High price, slow service and average food will leave a restaurant 75% empty during prime time Friday night, which is exactly what Acapulcos was. All in all Acapulcos was about average, some items were better and some worse than you can get elsewhere.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
