From 6/2015: Finally an affordable eatery that will satisfy the gastronomic desires of foodies, right here in d/t Georgetown. Sit outside street-side or along the open air "alley" as the inside has limited seating. Staff is pretty well trained and attentive. Our waitress was Jessica and she did a very good job with service. Additionally she was supported by the tallest waiter every. The owner came to table to chat. Food was imaginative and well prices. Lunch special of $12 and the Fett. Alfredo w/ a topping of grilled Salmon was tasty, but would have to admit the salmon was a little skimpy for the extra charge and my wife's Lunch special flat bread too the price for taste and texture. We will be certain to revisit this place, as it is popular with tourists and locals alike. SaleebScore: Food: 8/10; Service: 8.5/10; Value 9.5/10 From 9/2015: Again another fab experience, this time after a court date (and win) in Georgetown we celebrated with LUNCH and ate indoors this time. Laura was our server and we opted for the Tuna Nachos (AWESOME... MUST HAVE) and the Salmon Salad. I had the Lunch Special 12 what ever that means, but it was GONE.. Delicious.

I had some worries when I saw how small the kitchen was and counted nearly forty items on the menu. Hmmm... But I had the osso bucco and was pleasantly surprised. It was tender and tasty, even though I am not sure why there was some kind of pesto oil under risotto, and the meat was way, way, way over-sauced. Still, a pleasant dish and good service.

We tried this gem of a bistro for the first time for a late lunch. We were surprisingly impressed by the freshness of the seafood in our entrees... Linguini con Vongole and Scallop over Orzo pasta special. The waitstaff was very knowledgeable and The atmosphere is cozy and romantic. Two thumbs up!

We had another wonderful lunch at the Alfresco Bistro for my Dad's Birthday. I ordered one of the specials: sautéed shrimp with leeks, tomatoes, bacon, onions in a lobster cream sauce over fettuccini. Absolutely delicious! My Dad ordered the grilled filet mignon sandwich served to a perfect medium rare with Gorgonzola cheese, Carmelized onions, lettuce and tomato on a crusty ciabbatta roll with a side of potato salad. My Dad LOVED it. My Mom ordered the flounder special served over a Greek salad. Everything was delicious. We had a nice table on the sidewalk on a beautiful afternoon and our server was sweet and attentive. This is our favorite restaurant in Georgetown. If you don't live there, it is worth stopping passing through to or from Charleston or just for a nice day trip as it is at the waterfront.

Had a lovely outdoor setting with nice touches. Food was delicious. We had salmon over tomatoes and pimento cheese and lobster bisque. Very fair price and friendly staff.

This Charming restaurant offered a diverse menu and great wine list. I had the leg of lamb with a demi glaze served over mashed potatoes. It was wonderful! I've eaten in many great restaurants in lots of cities and Alfresco Bistro belongs at the top of the list!!

Food was good but the portion size was a bit small. No salads with entree. Service was also a little slow, but was very friendly. I had the duck for my entree and the sauce that came with it was the highlight of the meal. Delicious.

The food was fresh and reasonably priced, $12-$16 per dish. Everyone in our company was able to find something to her or his taste, from the wild mushroom and salmon chowder, filet mignon Cobb salad, flounder sandwich, Fettuccine Alfredo pasta or poached salmon. The setting is casual and perfect for a quick lunch on the town. Located in the heart of Georgetown, near most of the historic buildings.

This new restaurant on Front Street has become one of our Georgetown favorites. Every dish we've had has been superbly prepared and well presented. Service is attentive. For lunch, I enjoy their pimento sandwich accompanied by lobster bisque and a small salad (offered with your choice of what seems like a thousand varieties of vinaigrettes!) They always have a number of diverse and creative entrees with a variety of salads, sides and desserts. If you are in the area, I recommend you check them out... p.s. This is a small restaurant with limited indoor seating. Reservations advised.

Wonderful! Only complaint is that they were a little slow to refill our drinks, but they were busy. Other than that, A+ food and service!

Everything was great, tuna nachos were to die for. If I had it to do over again I would have those instead of dessert. Our party of 5 had a nice leisurely lunch on the sidewalk out front. Every item we had was well prepared and very well balanced. Just great! Stop in and give it a try!

Stopped at the Georgetown waterfront on our way back from Charleston to Myrtle Beach and glad we did! After a quick look at YELP reviews & walking over to read the menu at a few listed restaurants. We decided on Alfresco. The setting in the alley was great, comfortable and cool. I stepped into the main air conditioned restaurant and can tell that would be the place to eat on a warm day or evening. But on this evening, the reviews recommending the alley were exact. I ordered the seafood linguine special. The mussels, shrimp, chunks of fish, linguine, & sauce were delicious! The linguine was cooked perfectly and the sauce was extremely tasty. Rivaling similar seafood pasta plates I've eaten in Italy. My wife ordered the shrimp tortillini plate, which she raved about, although she wasn't able to completely finish the ample serving. We'll be sure to return on our next trip through Georgetown to try other dishes at Alfresco. Kudos to the chef and our waitress Andrea.

At the recommendation of a friend we came here for lunch. WOW it was great. The food, the service, everything was just as you would want. We had the special shrimp and artichoke salad, pork tacos and the mediteranian tart. Yummy. The waiter was very helpful and pleasent. Would highly recommend to a friend. It is worth the 2 hour trip from North Myrtle Beach to go for lunch and to walk around old Georgetown.

We went to George Town thinking we were going to try Portafinos (rated 4.5 stars on Yelp) but when I asked a local store owner what he thought of it he said it was no longer in business. The store owner said that the former chef at Portafinos was now working at Alfrescos and the food there was excellent. He recommended that we ask to start with the antipasto sampler platter that is not listed on the menu. It was outstanding - it was the highlight of the meal. The cocktails were well made and the staff was helpful and friendly - however, the evening took a turn for worst as the restaurant became busier. I had ordered a second cocktail and it was brought twenty minutes later and made incorrectly. In addition, we had to ask for our water glasses to be refilled each time. After having such a great experience during the first part of our dinner it was absolutely unbelievable how poorly the second half was unfolding. It was like we had been teleported to a completely different restaurant half way through the evening. The staff became careless and the entrees, both in quality and flavor, didn't remotely resemble what we had experienced with the antipasto platter. We had ordered wine by the glass and they served old, stale red wine in one of them that we had to send back. The more busy the restaurant became the more mistakes were made and the more time it took to get the mistakes corrected by the increasingly inattentive staff. The entrees definitely deserve further review, it's too bad the chef didn't think so. We had the scallops and Duck. There were three scallops with a bit of crab on each atop a mound of risotto. The server assured me that although crab and scallops do not normally "go together," the chef does a great job with the dish. Both the crab and two of the three scallops tasted so bad that I thought there was potential for food poisoning. I informed the server that they tasted spoiled and she simply said she would inform the chef. Despite my report, and having not eaten most of the entree, it was not deleted from the check. The duck was tasteless and dry like cardboard. My advice to the chef and staff of this potentially good restaurant is, learn how to get it together and KEEP it together. Your stumbling and bumbling is not conducive to repeat business.

My boyfriend and I came here on my birthday for a late dinner. The atmosphere was that of a lower Manhattan restaurant in Little Italy. We received a warm welcome despite how late we walked in. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and timely of our needs. The food was refreshingly unique and flawless. Were going back their tonight to try something different. We ordered the calamari for an appetizer, shrimp and lobster scampi and lamb chops for dinner, and tiramisu and a cake leche. This dinner was by far the best meal we've had together.

This tiny gem is truly excellent fine dining. They source their food locally where possible, including produce and (of course) seafood. This chef really knows his stuff, and presents artfully. Wait staff is excellent. Highly recommended.

Nice atmosphere, friendly service, beautiful surroundings, but the food was mixed. My wife's steak was great but my gnocchi were not. The sauce was made by the restaurant but the gnocchi were obviously not. Maybe I'm spoiled but I at a place like this I didn't expect a food service product to be served as a main course. I'd prefer a smaller menu that concentrated on the items produced in the restaurant's kitchen. They clearly know how to cook! Would go back, but would ask my server to direct me to items made in their kitchen.

One of the very best Italian restaurants I've ever eaten at. Everything we had was supreme! Fresh ingredients, the BEST marinara sauce, and wonderful service.

Absolutely delicious! Went for dinner to Al Fresco after being disappointed the previous night at a local restaurant. The service was great, our waiter Steven was very attentive & professional. The lobster bisque was one of the best I ever tasted, as were the steamed clams. Everyone in the group raved about the shrimp & lobster scampi. I had the grouper & shrimp entree that was to die for. Portions were very generous. My husband & I have been following Eddy around since his early days in Pawleys Island and are never disappointed with a meal prepared in one of his restuarants. Al Fresco will always be my "go to" place when bringing guests for dinner, I'll never be embarassed with food or service again. Thanks Eddy!

Had the highest average review on Yelp for Georgetown and it's easy to see why. Food was out of this world good, great service, and a very nice atmosphere in downtown. Would definitely would come back. Probably will get a reservation next time, we got lucky with the only open table they had tonight.

Best meal I've had in forever!! All homemade and the seasoning was perfect. The lobster bisque was amazing, the Filet Cobb salad was to the "T" and the service was wonderful! If you go sit out in the courtyard. Even in the winter it was warm and a great environment. The lunch prices are great. You get what you pay for!!

We were lured to dine here by all the very good reviews and high ratings. The menu descriptions of the many offerings look great. Unfortunately the kitchen did not deliver on the menu's promise the night we were there. We started with a house side salad with house vinagrette dressing. The basic salad components were great: lettuce, kalamata olives, tomatoes, cucumber but it was covered with too much dressing that seemed to be entirely red wine vinegar. The oil-acid balance was way off in the acid direction and the dressing was not emulsified at all. The risotto offered was mushroom and green peas and it was excellent. I was suspicious that the rice was precooked and mixed with a cream sauce to create it as it lacked the starchy creamy texture but the result was fine. Our first dish was the night's special risotto served with sautéed shrimp and fried oysters and a champagne cream sauce. I asked that there not be too much sauce which turned out to be a great decision. There was sauce on the bottom, then risotto with shrimp mixed in and topped with the oysters. The dish worked and I could taste everything and the portion was generous. Osso bucco is one of our favorite dishes and the meat was well prepared here, almost the meltingly tender we like. The sauce was the problem with this dish, it tasted like barbecue sauce, was slightly sweet and there was way too much of it. The meat was to be served on top of risotto and we asked "where is it" because it was submerged in 1/4 inch of sauce. There server said "we serve it like rice and gravy". The bread was soft squishy white bread as expected. The wine list was short, with good choices and reasonably priced. Our server was attentive, friendly and helpful.

Still sitting in the restaurant following an absolutely fabulous meal! I had the lobster shrimp scampi on pasta. The shrimp was great and the lobster was wonderful. The pasta cooked with butter and garlic melts in your mouth. My wife had a generous helping of salmon and shrimp but she raved about the sautéed greens. The staff was very attentive ... ask for Montana's table. pS end with the chocolate mousse!

Went for lunch today. Had poached salmon salad and it was delicious. The restaurant was full right up until 3pm which is an indication how popular this spot is. Server was very good and the ice tea (served in a glass, not plastic) was excellent. There were many items on the menu that sounded appetizing and a few daily specials to boot. We will be back . . . soon!

Good news! Alfresco has air conditioned the quaint alleyway dining venue. We will be back down as soon as we can. I adore the tuna nachos! My friends had the bruschetta last week and it was beautiful. Huge shrimp and a martini glass full of tomato bruschetta to put on the crisp toast. Yum.

Hands down the best restaurant in Georgetown and quite possibly the entire Waccamaw Neck. You will have to drive to Charleston to find a comparable restaurant to Alfrescos. Whether you just have appetizers and drinks at the bar or a full meal in the restaurant you will not be disappointed. 5 stars!

My wife and I stopped in for a mid afternoon bite to eat and were soo glad we did. We were treated to a great meal, a really good wedge salad with blackened shrimp and one of the best meatball sub's I have ever had(which is many more than I would like to admit). We washed it all down with a wonderful pinot noir recommended by our server. Now in reference to the service, it was one of the best I have experienced . I apologize for not remembering his name but I know he is from Argentina and could not have been more friendly, courteous or professional. He is a true asset to the bistro and made the great food that much better!

Excellent space and food, a worthy successor to Portofino's. We ordered the Pollo Rosino and the risotto special of the day, both of which were perfection. We sat outside in the "alley", which it technically is, but finished and furnished into a lovely and clean area. I actually have no idea what the inside looks like and that's fine by me. Good view of passers-by and if you like dining al fresco, I recommend sitting outside (they also have sidewalk tables).

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
