My son and I have eaten here with my Mother several times because she likes their seafood. I found the food to be bland. What really tipped the scale for me was finding a small roach (not a water bug....a roach) fried into my onion ring. I almost vomited because I had already eaten a few before I saw the one with the roach in it. I discreetly informed the waitress. After taking my whole plate to the back she returned to inform me that it must have gotten into the freshly made batter and apologized. Needless to say....they have roaches. I figured as much, since the menus were covered in a sticky film and the bathroom was falling apart and filthy, but I was giving them a chance anyway since my Mother seemed to like the food. She comped my meal which I did not eat anyway. My stomach was in knots. My Mother still likes it and continues to eat here. I on the other hand refuse. If you have nerves of steel and a strong stomach...go for it. If you like cleanliness and have a sensitive stomach and don't like to eat deep fried critters...I advise you to head back to the search bar. *I gave it a 2 star for you Mom! It would have been 1 if I hadn't taken your love of their food into account.*

I always feel like I am sacrificing quality over quantity when I eat here. They give you huge portions at reasonable prices, but it's not the best fried seafood around. The food is decent though and they have other options on the menu rather than fried seafood like steak and chicken. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Previous reviewers are right on about the broiled seafood, stay away from it!

If you come here, ALWAYS order the fried seafood, NEVER broiled. The broiled seafood tastes extremely fishy and they use way too much old bay seasoning. My broiled scallops had also come out cold. Not room temp but cold. However, the fried seafood is amazing! You get a huge portion of food, especially with their super cheap lunch specials. My father owns Darlington Dragway down the street where I used to work so I ordered takeout from Mayflower almost on a weekly basis. I love their baby flounder and popcorn shrimp special with a baked sweet potato and coleslaw. Even their hush puppies are delicious! Now that I've moved back home to Long island, NY (seafood country), I have to say that I do miss Mayflowers huge portions at such a low price. I will definitely be back when I visit!

Definitely go with the fried anything. Eating healthy here is not tasty. The fried anything was very tasty and plentiful and reasonably priced Hush puppies are excellent. Didn't like the floor sweeping around me when dining. Overall, a good place for fried seafood.

I ordered the fried scallops, shrimp and oyster platter. All excellent, particularly the fried oysters. Also, the boiled shrimp. Avoid them. No flavor. The Hush Puppies are excellent. Shaped like onion rings. The staff is ultra friendly. Best seafood in Darlington.

Deep-fried catfish and shrimp platter is the best around the area. The catfish shrimp special is ever Saturday.
