My family and I have been coming here for years. This place offers an array of authentic Mediterranean food choices that are extremely healthy and generally not available anywhere else in the Charleston area. They also offer a 1/2lb burger with seasoned fries (you may want to ask for extra seasoning if you're into seasonings like me) for those wanting something less exotic. A children's menu is also available. Desserts include Basboseh (bread like and very good), Baklava, and Cannoli. Hookah is also available for those so interested. The cashiers are mostly from Russia which is cool and the owner is from the Middle East and is very nice. The actual atmosphere of the restaurant feels Mediterranean as there are lots of architectural details and decorations reminiscent of that part of the world. If you have the time, it's fun to sit at a table in the dining room alongside one of the glass walls where you can leisurely watch pedestrians, bicyclists, and cars go by while taking in the beautiful Family Circle Cup tennis center just across the street.
My girlfriend and I went there for lunch. We love Mediterranean food and eat it all the time. We've tried a lot of the different options around Charleston. We thought that this Alibaba that would be similar to the one in Mount Pleasant... Not the case. I don't think they are owned by the same people, the menus are completely different. I got the gyro platter- meat wasn't too warm, but tasted ok. Pita was bagged store bought and toasted, hummus was good!
Their food is so good. Even though I get the same thing every single time I go there. I get the gyro platter. The gyro is so juicy and good. They give you a lot of food to fill you up. I try different sides mostly. But my favorite is the cucumber salad. Always clean and always busy.

THE best Chinese restaurant I've encountered in Charleston. This much more resembles the Chinese restaurants I frequented when I lived in Chicago. The food was great, the service was excellent, decor is as I would expect from a nice Chinese restaurant. I loved everything about this restaurant. My only wish is that it was closer to my area. It's a bit of a drive for me to go here. Otherwise, I would be ordering from there every week!
Will never frequent place again! I played a hard game of rugby on Saturday. My Fiancé and I decided we didn't want to cook and tried this place for take out. First, the server behind had a prudish( being nice) attitude towards my fiancé and I. Didn't think too much of it I took it as her having a bad day. Wellllllll then another couple came in and ordered the server perked up and was nice as can be; I though well maybe she knows them and they've brightened up her day. So I attempted to engage in friendly dialogue with the server. Instant mood change, one worded answers so I ordered a beer and my fiancé a glass of wine as we waited. Food came bagged and was set at the end of the bar, didn't think anything of it. Well then another order came out maybe 8-12 minutes later and it was for the couple who came in after us. Once they finished signing and tipping I asked for an update of our food. She said NOT ONE WORD and walked to the end of the bar grab the bags our check and literally dropped them I from of us. I wanted to pay for the drinks only and walk out without the food but my fiancé wouldn't allow me to. So we paid, I left $2.00 as a tip ( didn't deserve that) she looked at it looked up at me, gave a dramatic exhale and then mummers "typical" just loud enough for us to hear and the lady beside us who was also having a drink. She told the server that was rude left cash on the counter an walked out. Just as we were. My fiancé and I are decent professional people with decent professional jobs and take care of business as responsible adults should. I hate to say that our dress ( I was sweaty with rugby shorts, flip flops and t-shirt) and our race was a factor in our treatment but hey. If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, the use duck sauce. Food wasn't the best either since it sat and was cold by the time we arrived.
Good Dim Sum in Charleston, SC is liking finding a unicorn. And I think I've found a horse. I love dim sum from the bottom of my heart and have been eating it since I was a child. There is a huge Chinese/Asian population in my hometown, so my expectations/standards may be higher than normal. Please note, I can only review their dim sum selection as I have not had anything else on their menu. It was $3.50 for 3 pieces of hargow (quintessential dim sum shrimp dumpling). Shrimp was quite overcooked. Dumplings were small. Not very impressive. The pork shumai was just okay. It was topped and steamed with masago/fish roe. Some places do this topping well. A small piece of cooked shrimp on top would have done the shumai more justice here. The stuffed eggplant was probably the best dim sum item I had here. You'd be a fool to be able to mess up fried eggplant in any dish. Sauce lacked major flavor though. More black bean sauce please! Chicken feet lacked major flavor as well. More black bean sauce please (common issue here). Their frying and steaming techniques do provide a nice texture. First time ever having it served with peanuts steamed in the sauce. Had some more dim sum items but really didn't enjoy any of it. It was expensive for the portion sizes and lacked so much flavor and lacked the right flavors. For example, the soy sauce from the shrimp rolls are supposed to be sweet. Not one hint of sweetness here. Literally and figuratively. Better off driving to Charlotte or ATL for my dim sum fixes or until I fly back to Cali. I'll be able to hold off until then. It pains me to see dim sum prepared in this manner and that's why I wrote this review. It may be a good business move since no one else is making dim sum in the area. But at the same rate, it's not fair to serve this quality of dim sum to first timers. First impressions are huge and dim sum should be delectably good.

I'm torn between a 2 and 3 star review here. The sushi is really not that great and I've found myself questioning the quality of the fish a few times in my spicy tuna roll - you KNOW the feeling you get when you're suddenly not so sure how you feel about that spicy tuna roll, we all do - this is never a good thing. Ever. They have decent lunch deals, but their dinner prices are a bit high for what I think it's worth. The interior is nice and I have no complaints with the service. When there are concerts at Family Circle this place gets nutso and getting there earlier is always the better idea. Overall Wasabi is alright. It's convenient for lunch on DI and the prices are good for lunch - dinner is another story.
Love their sushi rolls and cocktails. Also, you must try their spicy shrimp pad Thai. All around great sushi place. Great lunch prices, dinner is a little on the expensive side. If you like spicy, then do the Hanami Roll. The SCAM Roll is also delicious. Good service, good food. Try it out!
Had lunch here today. Had the DI Roll it was interesting. Service was a bit slow but overall a nice place.

Vespa is a great little place on Daniel Island with a neighborhood feel. Not a typical "pizza joint" restaurant; as they offer mussels, calamari and a Sloppy Joe w/house made bolognese. Vespa has a good kids menu as well. They have a great outdoor patio with good tunes pumping. We've been there a number of times, including before concerts on Daniel Island. (I've seen other posts on this topic) Of course they are slammed pre and post concerts, as expected. The kitchen is small so it should be expected that service would run a but longer at these crowded times. We have always had good service and the bottled beers are always served ice cold. (more local beers on tap are recommended) Good wine selection, which is a plus when ordering the Sausage wood fired pizza; our personal favorite. Overall, great place for a date night with the wife and a good family Friday night vibe.
I love Vespa. I always get the beet salad (trying to be healthy) and pick off my husband's pizza. If beets aren't your thing then get the pizza. It is SO good. It's not your typical pizza. It's very light, not a lot of bread, a lot of flavor...not overpowering tomato sauce or cheese. When I get the pizza, I get the Bianca. PERFECTION! The bartenders there are great. They remember you...or maybe they just remember me because I go there so much...which could possible be a bad thing? If you go before the dinner rush, the bartender will let you sample whatever concoction he/she is brewing...fun, right?! The only "con" of this place is that the service is a little slow. If you are in a rush or starving, order your food to-go 30 minutes before you want it. However, if you are okay with having some drinks, chatting with friends and having some great food...this is the place for you!
I just moved here from Seattle, and I couldn't wait to find a really good artisan pizza place instead of the crappy Papa Johns, Dominoes, etc. I was really impressed when a coworker took me here. Vespa has outdoor seating (and does take reservations so that's useful on a beautiful day like today!), which I love, and a variety of options to choose from. I ordered the margherita pizza. It was delicious. It was large enough to take leftovers home, too! I would recommend this to anyone wanting a really good pizza place and/or a nice restaurant to eat at outdoors.

While Daniel Island doesn't offer a ton of options when it comes to great restaurants, I would argue that The Islander is the best option on the island. I love the tropical, beachy vibe of the place and especially love the outdoor patio in the spring and summertime. The menu has a ton of options mostly centered around seafood, in addition to tacos and a large sushi section. One of the best deals are the $9 Baja Fish Tacos, which include two large flour tortillas that fill you up. The Island Pork Sliders for lunch are also fantastic, served on Hawaiian rolls with grilled pineapple and a sweet slaw. If it's your first time to Daniel Island, be sure and walk around the island's gorgeous walkways and parks. So many hidden spots worth exploring! Must-order items: Baja Fish Tacos Island Pork Sliders Island Burger w. Grilled Pineapple
Ok let's break this down here 1)Decor- awesome. I love how it's set up and the interior looks beautiful. There is a very cute outdoor patio space. 2) Service- amazing! Our waitress was very attentive and my water glass was never empty. Very knowledgeable and was able to answer all of our questions concerning the menu 3) Food- meh. It was ok, a little over priced. I paid $10 for a kale salad with a few mandarin oranges and about 6 small pieces of avocado. It was decent enough. I paid an extra $4.99 to add jerk chicken to the salad. Not sure why it's jerk chicken not just grilled chicken. It was $10 to add salmon which is ridiculous and would give you a $20 salad. My husband and friend got the fried green tomato Benedict and the salmon Benedict. My husband thought the Benedict was good as did his friend but nothing memorable. I'm thinking that they are playing up the fact it's on Daniel island so they think they can charge more. Overall it was a pleasant experience but the food was not in line with the pricing. I don't mind paying more when the food is equal to the price but we paid $50 for a salad, eggs Benedict and a grilled cheese for our daughter.
The decor was pleasant and so was our staff, but overall the food was mostly just okay. It was good but not WOW. I think a lot of the reviews say the same thing- it's a very pleasant location and the food isn't bad but no one said a pep about it after we left. It was perfectly good... and forgettable. Some of the dishes our table tried were: the calamari appetizer, the mussels appetizer, the shrimp and grits, the salmon entree, the seafood pot pie, the conch chowder, and the steak tacos. Everyone liked their dish it seemed, but no one actually said much about them! If you're a vegetarian you have to mention it when you RSVP if you want them to put something together for you- menu options are limited. I managed to get vegetarian sushi on no notice but they seem to REALLY prefer you call ahead if you have any special needs. The staff do a great job so I almost feel bad for being hard on the food, but I just can't tell you to go out of your way for this place. If you're in the area it's a perfectly good choice though.

Real deal italian on DI. Nice complimentary valet. Casual dress ok and a great open kitchen atmosphere. Amazing baked stuffed mushroom appetizer coupled with the best lasagna I have ever had made for a great meal. Very expensive but worth it.
We decided to stop here for lunch on the way to Pawleys Island since a traffic jam took us off the road and it was either this place or another craft beer/food place down the street. We were starving and had already walked to this place so we decided to try it out. It seems like they are just starting to serve lunch, as an advertisement led me to believe, and they had a pretty limited lunch menu. I had an Italian cold cut sandwich, which was ok, but the peppers had too much oil and vinegar on them and rather than compliment the meat, it overpowered it. My fiancé had the spaghetti and meatball, which was actually pretty decent. Maybe South Carolina water is really different from Boston, but their water tasted like pond water. Aside from the food, what is with the decor? In one room it looks like it's trying to be a Tuscany-like Italian place, another room like a cafeteria, and the bar room like a tavern. It doesn't really seem to have a central theme, so it just kind of leaves you confused. Overall, it wasn't a bad meal, but if I'm in the area again, I'm going to try the craft beer/food place down the street before coming back here.
Fantasic! The service was excellent and the food is some of the best I've had in a long time. I live on Daniel Island and this is easily our best restaurant in town. I haven't had a bad experience here or a bar meal. I encourage anyone to dine here. It's not the most kid friendly spot so I would leave them with a sitter. Overall, my go to place for higher end Italian.

We've been there about 4 times now - lunch and dinner, each time was good - just good It's a sports bar with a large covered and uncovered out side area. It draws a big crowd for Saturday college football games, so if you're looking for a place just to relax on Saturday afternoons and evenings during football season this isn't it. But it's great if you're into watching some sports. The menu is a step above sports bar food - nice selections of sandwiches, burgers and pastas, etc. Pricing is pretty good too. Normally about 4 or 5 beers on tap, although they were out of some the night we were there. The only drawback is that the men's bathroom is one person at a time. Seriously? Forty guys drinking beer all afternoon and a single toilet to handle it?? YEAH - they added a bathroom in June 13! Three pieces of porcelain now for men and 2 for women!! Oh the bad part - played beer roulette for most of the night. Ordered a Holy City Porter (one of my favorites). Got something very hoppy and a lighter color - definitely not the HCP. Told the server, she assured me it was a HCP several times. It was good and I like IPAs so I kept it even thought she offered to get me something else (Other than what she thought was a HCP). Ordered another HCP and got the same hoppy brew which was still v good. Anyway, thought it was funny in a way and switched to ordering an IPA after that with the strange notion I may actually get a HCP - no luck.
If you enjoy roach salad, this is the place for you! That's right folks, at about noon on Friday 06/19 I was served a salad with a side of roach. I made the mistake of ordering a non-menu item: Salad with a burger on top. I usually order this everywhere I go and usually the waiter and chef are happy to oblige. The DIG had this as a special a few weeks back so I figured ordering it on this day would not be a problem. Boy was I wrong, I guess my request for a burger on a salad was ludicrous. The waiter first told me that they couldn't do it since that was a special a few weeks back. I responded with; well could you just put a burger on the salad? I will pay whatever I need to for it. He went and spoke to the guy in the kitchen (he doesn't deserve the title Chef) and apparently "convinced" him to make it for me. When the burger salad came out, the burger was extra well done (no problem) and there was a dead roach sitting on the edge of the plate in clear view. It was a small roach, but a roach all the same. I looked at it and then brushed it off to the side without disturbing my comrades. I guess I was trying to be considerate and not ruin their meals. So, I managed to stomach some of the salad (I was hoping to send the message "your roach salad doesn't phase me punk!") although I was extremely disgusted and livid. Once my companions finished their meals, I warned them that I was about to blow. When the waiter came back to the table I calmly told him to tell the guy who prepared my meal, "thanks for the side of roach, it was a nice touch. I will pay for the salad since I ate some" he reacted as if he knew the roach was there and said he would get the manager. He then returned with the checks and said mine was covered. I said thanks and we left without causing a scene or talking to the manager. So, that is why I am writing this review. It is unfortunate since I, along with many colleagues frequented this place and enjoyed it. After this, we will never return.
Nothing great, nothing awful about Daniel Island Grille. Good place to grab some drinks and watch a game. I would classify the food as above average bar food. Their french dip and cougar chips are the best items I've tried. Everything I have ordered has been decent, again, nothing that will blow you're socks off. The service can be hit or miss depending on how busy it is. They do have live music on the porch, which being in a very small space, can get extremely loud. Perhaps that's just another sign I'm getting old. Overall, just a nice sports bar.
