WGs is a columbia/ Irmo area staple and a hidden gem. They probably have the best wings in town and nail the buffalo wings. It is a great place to order several dozen wings and a few pitchers of domestic draught with friends and enjoy some kind of sporting event. Great fun. They also do take out which I like to do with my family for the game days spent at home. Always accommodating and a great place in general. Can't beat the charm or the wings.

While I've been here in the past and the wings and service were good, I went today and found quite the opposite. The only thing I actually got were the fried pickles. The reason behind that you ask? I waited 20 minutes for a sweet tea and had to refill it myself after the server failed to do so in an additional 20 minutes. That being said there were 6 other patrons who actually ended up getting their drinks themselves. Whilst waiting and getting the fried pickle chips I asked for ranch which I never received. So at this point I just paid for the chips and left. While I really did enjoy the food in the past with service this bad I'll never come back again. Today is August 1st and it's 1pm. If your the female server I had. You are why I will never eat here again.

I was promised a dive, and instead what I got was this clean cozy establishment that happened to have some awesome fried food. Seriously, one of the people I was with when we got there was "is this the same place?" I have no previous point of reference, so I had no idea what they were talking about, but I can speak on my experience there. WG's is right off of I-26, so it's pretty convenient to get to as far as I'm concerned, and there's plenty of free parking as it's located in a shopping plaza. I guess it's a little tucked back behind somewhat of a hill and a Wells Fargo ATM, but it's still easy to get to. I'm not necessarily a Gamecock fan, but I do dislike Clemson, so I at least had something to talk about with people who were obvious SC fans in a place that doesn't hide their association to the state's largest football programs. It's a pretty clean well-lit establishment that apparently surprised some of the people I was with that had been there in the past, and everyone who worked there was friendly, and I always like when cooks occasionally pop out of the kitchen to ask themselves how things are. Servers kept the sweet tea topped off, and didn't hesitate to offer to-go cups. Large TVs adorn the walls, and it doesn't hide the fact that it's good place to watch college football during college football season. Naturally a place that's named after their wings, I had to order wings. Ultimately, I found the size of the wings to be a little on the small side, but they were still cooked to a degree that I can agree with, with a little chew, and not feeling undercooked. Their interpretation of "hot" wasn't bad; I have to accept that I have a higher threshold for spice than many others do, so although WG's hot wasn't really that hot to me, I can bet it's challenging to others. What I really liked about WG's though, and what is warranting the fourth star for me was the fried stuff. Fried pickles, fried chips that were surreptitiously called "raw fries" and tater tots, WG's had this array of fried goodness that I really enjoyed. Unhealthy? Probably. Likely. Who cares? They're so good. All of them. Overall, I really liked the place. The wings were a little small, and I probably could have easily killed a 10 instead of a 6, but that just saved a little more room for vastly unhealthier fried goodies. I'd come back if my travels bring me back through Columbia again. And I hope they do.

Great wings and friendly service! I came here years ago and it was a little run down and dated at the time. However, it was obvious walking in the door this time that there are new owners because the place had undergone renovations and looks nice! Very clean! Give it a shot. Great wings, cold beer, lots of TVs, and good prices.

Want great wings? This is the place. My favorite among the many flavor choices is the special sauce. Hot, but not too hot, and a depth a flavor lacking in other buffalo sauces. Wing chips are just right. My hubs had a burger. He's odd, I know. It was a large patty but thin, dry and flavorless. The toppings saved it for him. Don't expect a fabulous interior atmosphere. It's been updated and painted, and the floors are now laminate, but it's a wing joint, and THAT, they do right.

Great place- chicken is very meaty and delicious. Quick and friendly service. One of my favorite places.

This place rocks. Great quality food, awesome service and an owner that always makes sure everyone is enjoying their food. The variety of sauces and the best raw fries is what keeps me coming back. This place needs to clone itself and open all over.

The food gets 4 stars, but the atmosphere gets -1 star, if that's possible! Once I opened the door, I almost walked back out! When the word "dive" comes to mind, think of WG's. Dark and dirty looking! Dark, broken ceiling tiles with wires hanging down, dirty carpet, torn chair cushions, dark particle board tabletops etc. The food, wings, raw fries, & celery, was pretty good. The food tasted fresh & it came out quickly. The waitress seemed inattentive to the four lunch time tables, but luckily I didn't need anything. However, it would have been nice if she had checked. All-in-all, I would definitely go there again for a TAKEOUT order only!

If you're looking for a low key place to watch football on Sunday, this is your spot. They just started opening on Sundays (they have Sunday ticket), and there was nobody in the bar area. Good drink specials and great wings and raw fries. As of this post there is a living social coupon that will save you 10 dollars.

Waiter not so great, "special" sauce isn't that special. Cold beer!

UPDATE - January 2015. WG's is under new management and it's even more awesome than before. The new owner is super friendly and has done a great job updating the place - it's bright, clean and service is friendly. The wings and wing chips are still the best in Columbia (my opinion, of course)! I'd bought a Groupon for WG's and thought we'd give them a try. The looks of the place can be a little off-putting if you favor fancy interiors. Our server, Cassie, I believe was her name was quick to get our order. The wings, in a word, are awesome. I fancy myself a bit of a wing aficionado and the wings at WG's are probably the best I've eaten in the Columbia area. My husband and I had the hot while the kids tried the ranch flavor - both were GREAT. We also tried the burgers and raw fries and those too were outstanding. Our glasses were never even close to empty and I'd say it's the best service we've had in ANY restaurant in a very long time. Outstanding service and awesome food in a very casual atmosphere - we loved it!

I went here yesterday, I believe WG's has the best wings in Columbia. I had Raw Fries and Hot Mustard Wings, they were so good, the mustard was spicy but not so spicy that I couldn't finish eating them. The Raw Fries were amazing. I will keep going back to this restaurant.

The wings were perfectly crispy and the raw fries awesome. I had the dry Cajun which was a little too salty but over all everything was good. I would recommend for a good light dinner or lunch.

We have been going to this place for years. Back when they had 15 cent wing night. Since we have moved to DC we have missed this place and had a chance to visit last week. Wings are still great and they have multiple flavors. The raw fries can be as raw as you want or as crisp as you want. We like'em crispy. I always get the honey mustard wings. They do have a new sauce now and it is a little peppery but still very good. The wife gets the ranch, dry rub, and she always leaves happy. Check this place out when you visit columbia or need wings to tailgate. Until December WG's!
