I've eaten at my share of restaurants based around southern food and this is by far one of my favorites. Everything they make is great, but their breakfasts are probably the best thing on the menu and it's usually what I always get. The only reason I shaved a star off was due to the hash browns being a bit too salty, but other than that I throughly enjoyed my visit and I would certainly recommend it to anyone visiting Columbia or one of their other locations. It's a great place to eat!

You can't find a better all American true down home style restaurant. Recommended to me by several local and I was not let down. The service was great and friendly and just what you would expect. Greeted by a good Ole down home" howdy, sit anywhere you like honey I be right with you".... special tonight.... chicken levers.... and omg... they have fried bologna and hillshire farm sausage..... I ordered everything and it was still under $20..... I love this place!!!!!

I came in on Monday night for the chicken and dumplings special. When we got here they said it would be 10 minutes. I said alright but to bring some bread or my husband's dinner while we waited. Well we waited 25 minutes and they never brought us even the rolls or cornbread. When the waitress finally brought us the food I asked about the bread and she said it was in the oven. Of course. If she had actually given an accurate wait time I would have ordered something else. We never got our cornbread.

Poor customer service. I was ill and wanted chicken soup and needed to feed my kids. I called in an order so I wouldn't have to wait, but I waited anyway. I can deal with that. I sent in my son to pay and get the food. Would you believe I got home and they had forgotten my chicken soup? I called and complained and they didn't offer to bring it to me. When I arrived there was no refund and there was another long wait. I got home this time without the cornbread I ordered. The food itself was average. I wish I had gone elsewhere.

Decent food for an even better price. I would actually give it a 3 1/2 if I could. We all had fried chicken which was pretty good. Cooked very well but not seasoned enough. I had the squash casserole and fried apples. I dislike skin on fried apples. Should have known though. The squash casserole was decent but mushy. Hubby had the Mac a cheese and said the flavor is excellent. He devoured the fried squash so yet must have been good. Son said mashed potatoes and gravy and creamed corn were good. The biscuits and corn bread were okay too. If come again for a quick and cheap meal. I think the biggest thing missing here are seasonings.

Terrible. I have never written a review before but I am so disappointed by this restaurant. The worst customer service, everyone was super rude and the food was just okay. Will not be recommending this place to anyone.

The food was absolutely amazing! Our waitress was super nice and extremely fast. She anticipated our needs and we never had to ask for anything. Portions were huge and we were given service with a smile! We will definitely be back!

I am from NC, but while visiting SC for work multiple locals recommended this restaurant. I see why!! That was the best omelet I've ever had! The sweet tea is divine, and the service is prompt and friendly! I'm definitely coming back!

This particular Lizard's Thicket is my favorite in the chain. Elmwood is a close second. The food is consistently better than other Thickets and I absolutely love the diner atmosphere. I also love talking to the elderly folks waiting in line, bouncing into the giant red booths and laughing at the ridiculously tiny TV. Those aspects are probably a turn-off for you, but they are plus for me! You can't go wrong with a hot-sauce smothered plate of fried fish and grits, for breakfast, lunch and dinner! I crave the solid simplicity of the junior breakfast. (Or whatever it's called.) Husband has a serious addiction to country fried steak. The waitresses also dote on my child, so that's always a plus. :-)

I've been here several times, and it's hard to pinpoint the absolute best dish or combination of items that I've ever been served. Southerners know how to turn plain fish into flaky perfection, so if you had to choose, I'd recommend trying the catfish. The coating is light, the seasoning is spot-on, and it's just downright delicious with a side of mashed potatoes and gravy. A close runner-up to the catfish would be the fried chicken. Columbia has a lot of restaurants vying for your poultry patronage, but the chicken here is a match made in heaven with Lizard's mac 'n cheese. They have managed to achieve the perfect equilibrium of butter and cheese in this dish, and it's a not-to-be-missed treat. Read the entire review here: examiner.com/restaurant-…

Haven't been here in yrs, at least 15 of 'em but the fried catfish I ordered still sticks in my memory as one of the best Sawthun' dishes I've ever had!

Open til 10 PM is a plus. Decent plates and silverware for a good price point helps. Food is usually consistent and a big favorite in this town where vegetables are hard to find. Excellent mashed potatoes, most meat and fish entree's are very well done. Unfortunately late at night this past week, the service fell apart, no bread was served, then it was served with no butter. Tea refills were nil. And it took some effort to get waitress to step up and serve my table -- I think they mentally closed the shop an hour before closing time. Flounder was good, beans always excellent, Rolls were at least hot, that's not always the case. Hope management will step up and make it just a little better. I think people expect the dining experience to get better each time, not digress into indifference and then back to normal. If that happens I will write the improvement in a subsequent post. .
