Okay I am now knocking it two stars because the wait, ordering, and check out is atrocious. No one seems crosstrained (only 1 person is assigned to plate the cakes and only the bartenders can process payment) and staffing does not appear adequate to sufficiently move the volume of people through the location. While I still think their rotating variety and quality of their cakes is refreshingly better then the competitor and I do believe the staff is friendly, I don't see myself going back anymore.

My wife and I went out here with some friends last weekend and had an awesome time! The setup is great, desserts amazing, and drinks very good. I was already a few glasses of wine into the evening, so stepped it up with a couple Moscow Mules, which were very well done. The atmosphere is perfect to have a night out with friends and still be able to hear each other talk. We'll definitely be back to further explore the menu, but for now I am very happy this spot opened in the Vista!

Great atmosphere. Very hip place. Staff is knowledgable and friendly. The white chocolate chip cake is amazing

Love this place. Desserts are great. The smores milkshakes is my favorite. The staff is typically very attentive and friendly. Also very helpful with questions or suggestions. My only negative...they use cheap ice cream. It seems to me, if Im paying more for a milkshake as well as the environment, Id hope to have it made with some good ice cream. If all the toppings or mixins werent actually mixed in, the ice cream is not that tasty. I definitely wouldnt eat it solo. Oh well. cant win em all.

Uber cool dessert and coffee house. Modern design in old brick building in popular warehouse district that is transforming rapidly. Had Hot Buttery Chocolate (with butterscotch schnapps) and Brownie Sundae. Licked it all clean!!!

This is a new dessert spot in the heart of downtown Columbia with a modern, stylish interior and atmosphere. The restaurant is actually located right next to Pearlz and they are connected from the inside so you can bounce from one to the other very easily. When we arrived, they told us there was a wait for a table even though we saw a few empty tables in the corner so we decided to find an empty spot at the bar. Since they had recently opened, they were giving away free adult milkshake shots which are just milkshakes with some alcohol as well. We had a Reese's one which was pretty good and tasted very smooth. There was another more coffee based one which was ok but not as good. At the entrance of the location, they have a glass window with their desserts lined up, similar to that of Nonnah's with assorted cakes and pies. We decided to order a slice a cake but it took a few minutes to flag down one of the bartenders even though there were quite a few of them. Once we got the cake, it seemed to be a small slice for a dessert place compared to other places. The taste was just ok but I prefer Nonnah's which is just nearby down the road. It also took us a few minutes to flag down someone to give us our check once we were done so service was a little spotty. One of the big pluses is that this place is the first spot in Columbia to serve wine on tap which is pretty cool. They have a few white and red wines that you can pick from. The ambience of the restaurant is nice with some cool dessert choices but it didn't seem to live up the hype with the huge crowd that was there. The environment and feel of the place is definitely more lively than Nonnah's but the desserts don't match up as well.

There are some great reviews on this place, it's why I personally went. The desserts were seriously boring and bland. I had a strawberry shortcake-- it was dry and slathered with 2inch thick buttercream frosting rather than whipped cream. I mention the frosting because it's a sign of cutting corners (saving money) on their 'gormet' cakes. Buttercream on strawberry shortcake practically ruins it. Really, the cakes are similar tasting to "Nonna's" next door. Only thing is, Nonna's has a better atmosphere. On a side note, the wait staff was spacey. We were told there was a 10-15 minute wait that turned into a 35 -40 min wait solely because the waitress (by her own admission) forgot to wipe down one of the several open tables. The table service wasn't amazing either.

Beautiful, delicious looking cakes. We stopped in for a coffee on a date night in Columbia and were surprised to get a thimble of coffee for $3.00 :/ I was expecting something a little bigger. I would assume if their coffee was that much for such a small thing that the cake and pie slices would be just as outrageous.

The night I went it was pretty packed. There is no order and the hostess didn't write our names down so she basically sat whoever she made eye contact with first. So, some people were sat before us that came in after us. But, overall we didn't wait too terribly long. Our waitress was great. I got the Reese's Cup milkshake with Frangelico and it was amazing! The deserts looked very good but I couldn't stomach dessert and a milkshake. Would definitely return to try some of the desserts!

Spectacular. The place is right next to, and actually connected to Pearlz. It has a really open feel to it - exposed beam ceiling, exposed brick, modern lighting and an overall good feel to it. Their third day open there was a ton of staff on hand - I imagine that will wind down as all the training and menu memorization happens. The very attentive staff made our trip a delight. Our waitress Maggie was very friendly and came by our table to ask how things were and if we needed anything else often. I had a beer - a Guinness they poured from a bottle into a glass which I generally do not prefer but it's not a huge difference; I'm one who believes it already comes in a glass. My lady had their coffee/espresso drink - 'a shot in the dark' which was really delicious. The coffee was robust and flavorful and even though it's 8 at night I find myself wanting another one. They only had their usual six desserts on their menu and a walk to the display case is required otherwise. It was kind of slow when I was there, but I imagine that becoming an issue when they are busier; maybe they just haven't been printed yet. Anyway, this place is delightful. If you like Nonnah's, you'll like Kaminsky's. Kaminsky's is more modern, and polished. I've only been here once, but I have a feeling the service will be better too. Nonnah's is more old school and has more variety but I have a feeling more people will end up on Kaminsky's side of Gervais.

If in the Vista and want a good dessert look no further than Kandinsky's. Was excited that Columbia was picked to get one after being introduced to the Charleston one. The desserts on display are always changing. I had the turtle cheesecake which was pretty good. Will be returning.

Coming from the mystical land of Atlanta, which is strictly Cafe Intermezzo territory, I am a little spoiled for dessert cafes. Despite this, I really enjoyed Kaminsky's! I came right at opening for happy hour with a friend. Happy Hour is from 5 PM to 8 PM and there are some pretty nice discounts- none on dessert, sadly- but you can get any dessert martini for only $5 instead of $8 and I think some wines are only $4. I ordered the Chocolate Martini and it was very good and very sweet. It was also definitely strong- don't be fooled by the sugar! I also ordered a slice of the Mountain of Chocolate cake, and while expensive (almost $8) it was very huge and I couldn't eat it all. They will gladly box anything up for you to take home. Max was our waiter and he was very sweet (no pun intended). When I came in he immediately brought me a bottle of water to cool off from the heat, and was very attentive to anything we needed. He even got me some change for my dollar so I could feed the parking meter. Everyone who works here was very nice, from the guy serving cake from the display case to the manager who came in from the Pearlz door that's attached. Overall, a great experience at this relatively new addition to the Vista.

Perfect. A great atmosphere with a large selection of desserts and beverages, friendly and prompt staff. Everything tasted awesome! Kioki coffee, brownie sundae, and toll house pie- to die for! We will be back for sure!

Awful service. They really need to get it together here. I'm really sick of paying to go places and having to deal with rude people.

Stopped in last night to check it out. Loved the decor and the atmosphere as soon as we approached the door. We were greeted by an extremely spacey hostess who said there was a 15 minute wait. So we decided to get our dessert to go. After ordering at the bar, our cake was plopped into a box and given to us by the hostess, she then stated there were tables open...it has only been five minutes. She clearly didn't know what she was doing. We asked if we could be seated since there was an opening, the man plating the dessert acted as if he was angry he had to put it on a plate, our dessert was then plopped onto a plate, not garnished and basically thrown down on the table we were sat at. Kind of disappointed after seeing everyone else's dessert dressed up with sauce and whipped cream. The dessert was delicious. The service was absolutely horrible and confusing.

Quinn is the hardest working person at the bar. He took exceptional care of us. He overheard it was my birthday without being told and added some extra treats. He is a mad mixer of the cocktails and knows his audience. The female bartender is useless and disappears for long lengths of time; we thought she was the bar back.

Great place to stop by for dessert and drinks! Our party of 4 all ordered something different and all the desserts were amazing. The grand opening crowds have subsided somewhat now and we were seated within minutes of arriving at 9:00 pm. The atmosphere is trendy, our hostess and waitress were helpful and friendly and the serving sizes were great--too big to actually finish! No complaints with price either--tab came to about $37.00 for 4 desserts and 4 coffees. The only reason they got 4 stars instead of 5 was because I ordered Chocolate Nut cake and the waitress brought me the wrong cake. I didn't send it back because I decided to try it anyway and it was delicious. Can't wait to go back!

I have secretly wanted to open my own dessert & coffee cafe for years, but until then, Kaminsky's will suffice. I've eaten here twice, each time having a slice of cheesecake and a caffè latte. Very satisfied.

Visitng downtown Columbia SC. Several coffee / dessert places to select from. Walked around, read menus, looked inside. This place was inviting by all my senses. Excellent chocolate cake and coffee. Hard to decide on dessert from the available varieties. Staff cordial and gracious.

Very fresh and cool atmosphere, with exposed brick calling back to the building's roots. Nice display of desserts. Greeted nicely enough by the hostess and shown to the bar, just steps away, to place our to go order. Standing a few minutes, feeling ignored. Several servers having conversations still ignoring us. The hostess prompts the servers to take our order. Repeating our order 3 or 4 times to several servers passing us off got annoying. The desserts were pretty good but kind of pricey. If I'm going to be charged 6 bucks for a milkshake at least get your act together. By the time my husband finished his shake that was almost impossible to drink thru the ridiculously skinny straw, there was about 2 inches of unblended and whole pieces of Reese's cups. I won't even get started about the packaging of my brownie sundae. It was a $25, 30 minute wasted drive for ice cream. The third star is a nod to atmosphere only.

I wasn't sure what to expect from Kaminsky's, but my wife was excited, so I was eager to take her and experience this new dessert bar together. The food pictures I saw looked incredible, but I suppose I thought we'd simply order from a counter and find our own empty table. Nothing could be further from the truth! We were greeted at the door by a server and quickly seated at a comfortable table in the center of the restaurant. The servers were well trained and very attentive. My only "complaint" about my server was that she utterly failed to help me narrow down my options and point me towards one item on the menu! Everything sounded awesome. I could have selected anything and have been more than satisfied. I was in the mood for something from the bar (which is fully stocked), so I started off with the Kioki Kaminsky Coffee. It was just what the doctor ordered: not too sweet or alcoholic, but just right. I coupled that with their brownie sundae and my wife went with the Tollhouse pie. Both were delicious, but I preferred the sundae as the cold ice cream paired nicely with the hot coffee drink. It was fantastic! We will definitely coming back! Now I just need to find a babysitter. Any takers?

So I've been to the kaminskys in charleston and I think they have some of the best people working. I was so excited when I found out they were opening one here. Well I have gone there twice now and the people working are completely incompetent. When I asked one guy for my check he said I needed to ask the bartender to get my check and so I said well since she's busy can you just tell her we are ready to go.... He said no I can't. The bartender then did not even have my orders in the computer so I had to tell her what I got and then she never came by to get the check so I had to ask again. The service is terrible and if your getting a to go order you better be willing to wait for about an hour. On my second visit the same guy that said he couldn't tell the bartender that I'm ready for my check also said he couldn't get one slice of cake out of the fridge so we could leave. He again directed us to the bartender who took our order. After about 15 min my boyfriend asked the the same rude server if he could get our order to which his only response was to set our ticket to the side and continue fulfilling other orders. It's really disappointing to see such a great place to be ruined by rude employees. We didn't get our cake until the hostess, bartender, and manager asked what was going on. Overall this place could be great if they hired some better people.
