Jake's is the quintessential 5-Points college and sports bar, with 6 indoor HD screens and 5 outdoor screens that play sports and other available cable programming. The best part of Jake's is the outdoor deck/patio area. They have a fountain, plenty of deck area with seating, and an outside bar that is open on weekends and other busy times (seasonally, of course). Indoors, the beautiful old wood bar is often overlooked. You can also find the usual pool tables (pay), darts, a large shuffleboard table, and other video games. They have 50 domestic and import beers on tap, with plenty more available in bottles. As for bar food, I think the buffalo hot wings are some of the best in Columbia, as is the pizza by-the-slice. They also have every beer on the draught wall for $2.50 on Monday nights if you're looking to save some money.

Best legal age college bar don't have to deal with drunk ass freshman. Don't try and get in if your under 21. Also dog friendly.

Great place to go for drinks, a meal, or a late night snack. The menu is a pretty good variety of things. I got the Hanger Steak sandwich. It was great! If you do come on weekends they sometimes run out of items. They ran out of some of the beers and food. But that's ok.... It was a Sunday night and that's expected. I went this past Sunday night and there were 3 bands playing. All were great. It's pet friendly. And this place is like a Landmark .... It's been around a long time. Come check it out!

I worked here for years under the old management. The kitchen has gotten better since I worked there, but the clientele has gotten worse. It use to be a graduate school and older bar, but as you'd expect when the owner of Pavlov's buys it it has gotten younger and more greek and less chic. On the other hand, they still have an impressive draught beer selection. Craft and local brews all on tap. Friendly and helpful staff. Starting to get a good live music scene in there thanks to Reno Gooch. The farm to table kitchen is the biggest surprise. The food is great. Still have a great deck! Incredibly dog friendly! Y A P P Y H O U R ! ! ! Tuesdays and Thursdays bring your dog inside and out to play with other dogs!

Great beer selection is advertised. The fun stops there. Almost every beer I asked for was sold out or no longer in rotation. Bar tenders are incredibly rude. Especially the 2 larger ones. They also will start a tab without asking you and will give your card back to you with your tab still open, then charge you for not closing it. Also it is very pricey for being essentially a dive bar

Went there to support a friend doing there Kiss cover band thing on a Sunday night. Terrible acoustics & lazy no personality bartenders didn't make for a great experience. On the plus side I liked the overall layout of the place. Nice big back yard. Separate section outside to hang out & have a drink. Would like to go back when it's busy.

My go-to bar in town. Terrific happy hour specials on a great beer selection. Pool & shuffleboard tables. An amazing back patio. And some amazing food to boot. And not your typical bar food. The hanger steak sandwich is fantastic, the wings are delish, an the hummus was great. Wasn't super impressed with the lettuce wraps or stuffed mushrooms. The best part: SUPER DOG FRIENDLY. Dogs are almost always welcome but Tuesday is Yappy Hour,so it's pups galore!!

I came here expecting the typical bar food to be on the menu, but was happy to see they actually have a very healthy selection with several organic items. I tried the Hangar Steak Sandwich and it was dripping with flavor. The bread was perfectly grilled and the meat tender and well seasoned. I'd like to try some of the other items on their menu next time. It's not extensive, but I'd feel pretty confident saying most don't come here for the food; it's just a bonus that it's good. If you come on a Thursday night and sit on the patio, it's dog heaven, literally. There were probably 20-30 dogs out there when I went, and they even have a little wading pool for the dogs to cool off in. Don't go if you're not an animal lover. As for me, I thought it was awesome to be entertained by all the furries while I ate. Hope to go back soon!

Who charges a cover at 8 pm for bad country and an empty bar? This place.

As others have pointed out, yes the crowd is better than your typical Five Points scene, you will not find drunken college kids flopping around or anything. Just a bunch of after work professionals hanging out and socializing over a beer or two, it's a pretty mellow and tame atmosphere. Jake's is not a sit down service establishment, while they do have food, you have to order and pay at the bar and they bring your meal out to you. The food is sub par and is dominated by fried apps and pizzas and calzones. The pizzas are thin crust so that's a plus, but the taste is mediocre. I wasn't a big fan of my eggplant diva, it was more greasy than I would've liked, and the flavor was pretty bland, even after adding crushed red peppers to give it a kick. The sweet potato fries were alright. They could enhance this dish by accompanying a nice chipoltle dip with it instead of ketsup. However I realize people go to Jake's more to grab a drink and hang out than for an actual dining experience (we ate our pizza on paper plates!). Out of several groups in the restaurant, our table was the only one eating! I'm writing this review primarily for people looking for restaurants to eat at, if that's the case, Jake's wouldn't be a place at the top of my list. HOWEVER, they have a really nice outdoor patio area and on beautiful days like today it's awesome to be able to sit under the sun and have a beer and/or meal. If you are looking for a chill place to have a drink or two and lounge for a bit, Jake's is ideal, but if you're looking for a venue to have a quality meal at, I'd go elsewhere. p.s. Good service, forgot to mention that!

One of my favorite bars in Columbia. Food is good if you get there early and the staff is great. Jake's is always a stop during my trips to Five Points. Nice because it's not an underage crowd--bouncers are strict and the bar is much better because of it.

This place is an institution. A welcoming place to visiting football fans of the SEC or other programs. Gamecocks.of course are priority. Inside you'll find a few pool tables, dart board, shuffleboard and of course a long bar. Outside, two bar stations and a variety of TVs showing off the games of the evening, with the flags of all the SEC schools flying. Of course I'd give it more stars if it wasn't one incident back in my undergrad days where I was charged with a $50 bar tab when clearly I had only bought $5 dollars worth of drinks. An unfortunate event that led me to now only use cash at the establishment. A great place for grad students and professionals to go out and kick back a few.
