First, a short introduction... It's true! Absence does make the heart grow fonder. After moving to Lincoln (NE) for the last 3 years, my wife and I are finally back living in Upstate SC. One of the things we missed the most was Grand China. You would think in a city of 250,000 people that you could find a solid Chinese restaurant, but I think the expectations must be really different in the Midwest when it comes to Chinese food. My wife and I never found anything that came close to what we grew accustomed to from Grand China in Anderson (SC). Grand China is my new gold standard. For starters, on any given day, the owner William is likely to be there. He goes out of his way to make sure you are comfortable and have everything you need. Moreover, the wait staff are always friendly and attentive. As for the food, the egg rolls are incredible. They are easily the best I've ever had, and nothing has come close. All of the ingredients are really fresh, and your egg rolls always come out piping hot. A little hot mustard with duck sauce? Superb! To boot, every entree I've had has been incredible as well. I'd recommend the Mu Shu Pork personally. Do yourself a favor if you're passing through Anderson and craving Chinese food, and stop in at Grand China. You won't regret it.

My DH is gluten free so Chinese food is a special treat. I used to love this place, so was looking forward to my usual Orange Peel Chicken as a special lunch. The egg roll was superb so I was stoked to start the egg drop soup. It was truly nasty, tasting so metallic I could not eat it. The crispies were cold and stale. Oh well, the chicken will be great. Well, it wasn't awesome but at least edible. The soda was flat too. Honestly, the worst part was that I mentioned the bad soup to both the waitress and the cashier and both said "Hum". If you mention (quietly and politely) that you could not eat part of the meal because it tasted bad and no one cares, eat somewhere else. Which I will from now on.

Terrible!!! My husband and I took about 3 bites of our food and we left. That little bit made me feel sick. Don't waste money on this!!

Stopped by for lunch today and ordered the Sesame chicken, fried rice, and egg drop soup. The soup was great and service was as well. When the meal came shortly after finishing my soup I was not impressed. There was no fried rice, just steamed brown rice, the only sesame in the chicken were the seeds on top. If this is the best Chinese food in the upstate, i am sorry! The china buffet down the road offered better food on my opinion.

so-so food, some what bland except for the hot mustard sauce. Combo was an ok value but just lacked anything special in taste. Service was pretty good.

Iama Critic Rating - Grand China Restaurant - 4 Stars 4141 Clemson Boulevard, Anderson, SC Overall: Their sign out front says, "Best in the Upstate". I love it when a restaurant tells me they are the best. It makes my job a lot easier. I just give them five stars and call it a day. Because we all know a restaurant would never exaggerate their claim of being the best. Right? They might be pushing it a bit too far, but their quality is really good, and their prices are just a small step up from average, so that make them a value in my book! So they gain a star for that. $1.70 - Spring Roll - 4 Stars This fabulous roll of joy was super light and crispy. The hot mustard will down right open up your nose with a serious horse radish rush. Kudos to a great spring roll. $13.95 - Happy Family - 3 Stars It is a delight, with great flavor and a passionate selection of fresh meats and veggies. And who would not be happy in a family that could afford to spend $14 for a bowl of food. Yes it was great but ouch, that is a serious chunk of change. Their online menu shows this entree as $13.45 $8.95 - Buddha's Delight - 4 Stars A meatless dish with snow peas, water chestnuts, bamboo shoots, mushrooms, bokchoy, broccoli, onions, and fried bean curd. I really dislike tofu, but I must admit this entree is really outstanding. I didn't miss the meat at all. The flavor were strong as well. $9.25 - House Special Lo Mein - 3 Stars House special usually means it is loaded with everything they have, but I found this entree to be somewhat lacking. For over $9 it needs some more meat and shrimp. Their online menu shows this entree as $8.75. Side of White Rice - 3 Stars Although the rice really wasn't white. It was more a slightly brown tinted white. It was good, but not as sticky as I am used to. But it was as boring as I am used to. Super Wise Fortune Cookie - 5 Stars The wisest fortune cookie I ever read! It said: "Only put off till tomorrow what you are willing to die having left undone!"

Just meh for me. It was fresh, the service was ok, the prices were ok, but no flavor. I've had better in mall food courts. No buffet, which isn't a deal breaker, but it's listed on here as having one.

This locally owned restaurant strives in service as this owner knows everyone in town and shows it with his kind face and friendly conversation. The food is the absolute best Chinese food by far, and you won't regret anything you order!! If you're looking for a relaxed setting and want to enjoy the finest Chinese food, Grand China should be your destination! They don't offer buffets, sushi menus, or hibachi, as their expertise is in Chinese cuisine. All my friends have been pleased with their dining experiences, and it's a must-do for me when visiting Anderson. Grand China should not be confused with just any other Chinese restaurant, as their food will not only satisfy your appetite and exceed your expectations, but will feed your craving for many return trips. Definitely better than any Chinese restaurant in the area!

Really great food. it is a family owned restaurant ( i believe ) and the service is excellent. The food has a lot flavor. Overall a very good experience. I found the pricing to be very reasonable.

Very good, does not have a buffet strictly sit down and order or take out. Friendly staff, great crab ragoons.

There is a reason they take your money before you see/eat the food. No real seafood in the sushi. Good variety of food, but it is a stretch to call it Chinese.

Welcome to Sh*tty Wok. Try any of the vast assortment of authentic Chinese specialties: Sh*tty Pork, Sh*tty Beef, Sh*tty Chicken, even Sh*tty Shrimp. You can rest assured that every dish will be salty, bland, and overall... sh*tty. The interior decorating is pleasant, and the service is decent. Eating the food probably won't require you to check into AnMed hospital with a bad case of organ failure. But don't come here expecting anything better than sub-par generic Americanized Chinese slop.

I lived in San Francisco for over 25 years and so I'm a Chinese food snob, but honestly the Grand China in Anderson was some of the best Chinese food I've had anywhere. I tried it at random, and I was really impressed. I had the Eight Treasure Chicken and it was excellent! Generous portion served with rice and very fresh with a not-to-heavy sauce (oyster?). Had the pot stickers for an appetizer, and they came with a delicious sauce. Can't wait to go back again. Don't miss this place if you're in the area. (P.S. The review by J.P. must be for a different restaurant with a buffet, which Grand China does not have.)

Just went to Grand China before Christmas. It is still the best Chinese restaurant in town. I would take my friends there without a problem. They make the food fresh and are very friendly. It is not a chain like other restaurants on that street. The cooks are not students so you know that you'll get good food. It is very consistent good food.

Bad food with no compensation. 1) Eating in, I was given bad shrimp, acknowledged by the chef. All they said was "sorry"....... 2) Ordered take out wonton for take out and got food left over from the previous day as the wontons were almost disintergrated as they were nothing but mush with no filling. 3) Ordered 2 shrimp rolls and received two small, burnt, oily rolls with almost nothing inside. Three bad experiences. Each time I received NO compensation. Find somebody else to pay for your kids' college education and your Lexus cars.

Oh how I miss you Grand China! There are not many things I miss about SC (aside from my family), but you are at the top of the list of redeeming things about that state. Oh, those dinners in college when a car load of Furman students would make the drive to Anderson with the sole purpose of stuffing our faces with the best chinese food in the tri-state area. Despite never usually drinking sweet tea, we would all down pitcher after pitcher of that cold concoction. The crab rangoon is the best I've ever had... hands down, no place in Chicago has matched it. The orange chicken is sweet and spicy, not that mushy unrecognizable pile of stuff you normally get. I've tried many dishes on the menu, but for the life of my all that I can think about right now is the orange chicken (as I salivate). They have the friendliest staff around- which I quite an accomplishment in notoriously friendly South Carolina. This is a quality chinese restaurant- don't go here if you want a buffet of cold, fried chicken substitute. Despite leaving you behind in SC, Grand China, you will remain the standard to which all other chinese restaurants are compared and fall short to.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
