Lovely. I don't know if I'd consider opening a restaurant now that Yelp exists. Small businesses have overhead costs. You're paying for the meal, the setting, and the experience. I think this place is wonderful. Casual. Clean. Family style. I think family-owned. I find the staff to be nice and helpful. Very New England. The perfect stop on your way home from Goosewing. Take out window offers all kinds of fried seafood. Market price in some cases which is only fair. Otherwise its comparable. Order something and go sit at the picnic tables by the bay. Very beautiful. Very clean and well kept. I've been to the takeout window many times. Its always been happy w it. I wasn't crazy about the dill in the clam chowder, but its probably a family recipe. You can also dine inside or outside in the restaurant and be waited on. Also on the water. Three of us and all of our meals were great, as was the service. I've been a bunch of times. I'd recommend.

Went there because we were going to an outdoor concert and needed some food Got some lobster rolls as that seemed like a good idea to prevent fried food from getting greasy while we drove from Evelyn's to Little Compton Lobster rolls were basically stale hot dog rolls with boiled lobster and a tiny cup of mayo on the side with crappy fries. $20 per roll. No napkins and no utensils provided. You must be joking. Lobster was tough and full of shredded pieces versus decent meat This place rates amongst the biggest rip offs I have ever seen. There are so many better places in and around the area that know how to make a proper lobster roll. If you choose not to mix the mayonnaise before, have the decency to tell your customers and include what they need to do so when they get a to go order.

We go here quite often considering we live 90 minutes away round trip. We recommend to friends and we go at least 2-3 times in a week when we do our summer vacation in the area. On a recent Sunday at 4:10PM in the afternoon two of us stopped by to sit outside and have a couple of beers and eat. In late June on a beautiful summer weekend they did not have all their tables set up for customers. Some open large tables were off-limits "in case any large groups showed up"? Our only choice were two tables right next to the back entrance of the dining room. Yet two larger tables were wide open, but could not be used because of the phantom large groups that may appear any minute. (We were 2 long time paying customers standing right in front of them and they let us walk away) Common sense tells me that it was 4PM well before any kind of dinner rush on a Sunday afternoon and they should of let us sit where we wanted OR opened up one of the 10 empty smaller tables. God forbid if more customers showed up. They lost 2 paying customers because of this. For the prices they are charging and the amount of times over the years we have been here, I feel jaded by this experience and will not go back. In fact, we drove to Bristol and relaxed at Quitos instead.

This place is marvelous! We're from Brooklyn, New York and we had dinner here on our last night of stay in Tiverton. The staff are so pleasant and very attentive to our needs. They also keep the place clean. There's no wait time so we were seated right away. It helped us a lot especially with our hungry 10-month old boy. They offer market prices which is only fair because their menu is very special! We had lobster lomein and scallop roll. Their food tastes AMAZING! The view is also the best. We were watching the sunset on the water while we were enjoying the one the best dinners we've had as a family. I highly recommend this place to tourists!

The batter is amazing! Very light, but just enough. We got the seafood platter. If I had to do it again I would just get the fish platter. The clam cakes needed more clam, so you are not missing anything if you don't taste them. The shrimp, scallops and calamari were all good. Get the fish platter, you won't be disappointed! If you are feeling rich, get the seafood platter. It is enough for 2-3 people, but you will only get a couple of bites of fish (which is the best part).

Stopped by Evelyn's on Monday afternoon with my family and sat on the back patio with my family on a perfect summer day. It was so relaxing and the staff was very friendly and went out of their way to make sure that we had a great dining experience. My daughter got the lobster chow mein for the first time, because of all the great reviews of it and she loved it. A few of us shared the Seafood platter which was huge and delicious. We always get a dozen clam cakes as those are our favorite, and some New England clam chowder to take home. Hopefully we will get back at there at least one more time before the end of the season. It's definitely worth the trip down from Boston.

Overpriced. $45 for a small fried clam and half a dozen clamcakes is unreasonable. They weren't even that good, there were 2 tiny specks of clam in tbe 3 cakes I ate, sad. The fried clams were good, but knowing how much I paid for each one just killed the happy feeling I could have gotten while eating them. The Girls working the take out counter are extremely rude and won't tell you the prices untill your order is ready and its time to pay up. I remember going here all the time as a kid with my late grandmother, too bad I can't afford to take my kids here. Too bad.

My family wanted to try this place on the way back from Newport so I came along - we figured a quick stop at a clam shack wouldn't seriously impact our travel time, and would give us one last good seafood experience as we wrapped up our vacation. Fail. Firstly, we ordered at the take-out counter and the wait was still a good 15-20 mins for our food. And the place wasn't that busy on this particular Monday evening. Secondly, not feeling like fried food myself, I ordered a lobster roll. I wasn't told that there was more than one size, so I assumed that the roughly $20 order they rang me up for was the standard size. What I received was a joke: a few pieces of lobster that looked lost in the tiny hot dog bun they were sitting in. All it came with (apart from mayo and butter) was a similarly miniscule portion of fries. I found out after the fact that there was a larger-sized lobster roll for around $25. WTF - the girl who took my order should have told me there was more than one size instead of automatically ringing me up for the biggest rip-off! Needless to say, I left hungry, even after picking at my family's fries and onion rings. By the way, the onion rings were around $5, and there were only about 5 onion rings in the thing. Not extra-fancy onion rings or anything like that that would justify the $1 per ring price. Nothing else we ordered (fish sandwich, crab cakes) was particularly great. The only thing this place has going for it is a nice location on the water. But on the whole, it's overpriced, the menu is poorly written, there is poor communication from the staff, excessive wait times, and average food. Move on to other clam shacks in the area - this place doesn't measure up to the competition.

While the lobster was super fresh in the lobster roll, no celery and add your own mayo really disappointed. Along with the choice of only one side (I picked cole slaw) it came in a paper thimble and was very skimpy. Basically I find this place very overrated and extremely overpriced. Not worth the money.

I really hate having to give this place a mere two star review, I really do. I grew up in Tiverton and still reside there and wish I could give a local business a better rating, especially one that has been here for quite some time and was featured on the Food Network show "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives." Unfortunately, this place does not live up to it's hype, in my opinion. It is always packed from the time it opens in April until the time it closes in October, though many of the plates are from neighboring states such as Mass, Conn., New York, New Hampshire, etc. with a few RI plates in between. So yes, it is a tourist trap for the most part. Okay, okay now on to the real review: Evelyn's Drive-In is in a gorgeous spot, I give it that. To watch a sunset here truly is amazing any time of year. It is nestled on the beautiful Nanaquaket pond in south Tiverton and the water on the pond is so always has the appearance of glass, with the occasional water bird passing by. So the atmosphere is top notch. But for me, sadly, the positives for this place end there :(. Not to mention that I am here to eat, not watch a beautiful sunset. I could do that for free anywhere in this state. The food is exteremely over-priced in my opinion. I understand it's not going to be like a bill from McDonald's or something of that nature, as it is mainly seafood, but my son and I came here early in the summer and I got a crab cake sandwich with coffee milk and he got a chicken pot pite and his own order of coffee milk. The bill was well over $20.00. And one would presume food that expensive HAS to be amazing, but quite the contrary I found. The crab cake sandwich I ordered was more like a crab crepe. Thin, flavorless, and difficult to chew. My son said his pot pie was "just okay." Perhaps it was just an "off" day for the employees, but we waited over a good half hour for our food to come out...and there was only one other party ahead of us. My son is 9, so he was getting antsy and hungry, which in turn made me feel bad. This was my second time here, and I really REALLY wanted to like this place, I really did, because the first time I came here I was let down by how bland the lobster roll tasted, and just thought maybe it was just that one dish. Alas, the food here just is not worth the price tag attached like several others mentioned. Sadly, the one real good thing going for it is it's location. Tourists, you can find much better seafood in a state that is renowned for fresh seafood at a more reasonable price elsewhere.

OK fine, I'll give Evelyn's an update, even though they made me use the Portapotty with no hand sanitizer right before my meal that one time. Clam chowder here is thin and brothlike with a touch of cream (Rhode Island Style) but it's pretty dang delicious. I always get the clam strips when I come here, so I can't comment on much of anything else, but they're good, though the portions could be bigger. Sort of expensive for small-ish portions and terrible service, but the view is great. I'd recommend eating out back if there isn't a wait.

5/7/2011: For the life of me I can not understand how this place gets good reviews for either their chowder or clam cakes. I found the clam cakes to be nothing more than Bisquick balls. If I had some butter and real maple syrup they would have been outstanding pancake balls. The chowder was nothing to write home about other than the butter floating on the top. Seriously, what do people see in this place? If you want good clam cakes and chowder take the drive to Aunt Carries in Narragansett. Now that's a real clam cake.. I wont even mention the chow mien sandwich I ordered on a whim... I think they should call it the "soggy sandwich". I always thought Fall River chow mien was supposed to be crispy? I think it probably was before it sat under the warmer for 10 minutes. I should add, I lived in Tiverton for 10 years some years ago and have been to this place many times years ago before the fire. I wish I had just kept driving by... waste of $26 bucks. The best part of this road trip was Gray's Ice Cream down the road a few miles... can not go wrong with a Gray's coffee malt.

Guy Fieri brought me to the Food Network. I was never able to sit through Julia Childs, delightful a personality as she was. But there is just something about Guy Fieri plundering through the kitchens of nonpretentious places filled with grilling meat, fish frying and "huge hunks of meat" (to steal a line from Jimmy Buffet). After watching Guy Fieri at Evelyns, I knew it was on my list of must see places. The view is exactly as Guy Fieri filmed it. It is spectacular. You can sit on a picnic table and look out at the Nanaquaket River. In the summer, the sun sets around 7:30 pm and it's just a gorgeous place to sit and relax with fried clams and lobster and chowder. The night I was there we tried the fried whole clams which were greaseless and not overdone with batter. I give it an A for a grade. We also had fried calamari which were acceptable but not the equal of the fried calamari you get at places like Umbertos on Mulberry Street in NYC or at the Blue Grotto in Providence. If you love calamari, as I do, the best thing to do is to save your hunger pangs for the chefs at the Blue Grotto. We also tried a lobster combination with corn and cole slaw. The lobster was fresh and tasty although I prefer a whole lobster smothered in melted butter. But that is just a personal preference. For those of us who are Diners, Dives and Drive Ins nuts, we just like to say we ate where Guy did.

Overpriced, mediocre seafood, served with an attitude. Chowder is thin and short on clams. Fried foods are flavorless and greasy. The location is nice, although parking is difficult. We live a few miles from Evelyn's, but only go there once per year. We give them a chance every spring when they open, and they never fail to disappoint. (Hey, we try to like the place, we really do!) There are so many other places in this area to get your fried seafood or clam cakes and chowder fix. Flo's, for one! Cheaper and better all around. Try Evelyn's once, if you must, but be prepared to spend a chunk of change and leave with regret.

We stopped by on a beautiful Saturday to finally enjoy Evelyn's seafood. Well as it turns out, the market price at Evelyn's is about 10-20 dollars higher than every other place around. Are you serious, $29.99 for whole belly clams? I saw the two $$ and didn't think prices would be as high as they were. The lobster roll was $25-$30 as well. After getting the market prices, I decided to get the chicken sandwich and my GF got the side of crab-cakes. Both were good, not great. They were good for the price. The view is great but our particular waitress was awful. I was surprised because previous reviewers glowed about good service. I didn't realize there was a board of market prices so I asked the waitress and got a dirty look. It wasn't until I heard her mention the listing to another table. She also never listed the specials for us. I feel that once we asked the market price on the lobster roll and clams, and passed, she decided we weren't worth the time. I"m sorry, but I didn't feel like dropping 75 dollars on a quick afternoon lunch. We waited for drink refills for about 20 minutes, each time she passed I feel like she avoided eye contact. I actually had to stand up as she was about to scurry by to get her attention. The same charade happened when trying to get the check. People who sat half hour after us ate their food and got their bill before us. What was supposed to be a quick seafood lunch turned into a long, run of the mill experience. I'm really intrigued to taste some of their seafood but based on reviews, don't feel it will be worth the price. Again this review isn't about the food as much the service. I think the Price Range should be adjusted to a $$$ (based on food prices with a couple beers) as the average seafood price is between $25-$40, at least that was the market price the time we went. We probably won't be back, as there are plenty of other places serving fried clams, shrimp, scallops, and seafood platters for much more reasonable MARKET prices.

I've wanted to try Evelyn's for some time. We went there a couple of weeks ago with our niece and her boyfriend. It's ok. Nothing special. Instead of going to Evelyn's, try Quito's in Bristol. It's much much better.

Tourist Trap! Written up in tripple d and others the seafood is pritty good but you can find better at amy of the other local clam shack type resteraunts my main beef the prices holy cow!! Like really I just spent a days pay on a fishermans platter that is just ok?the one thing they got going for them great clam cakes they do them just right the view is ok not spectacular as many say its a view of a estuary not senic ocean view if you are driving buy and you got a hankering for a good clam cake come on in! If not drive around the corner down the street or up the road a bit all have better choices at 1/3 the price!

The above rating is no stars. Traveling down from the cape with my husband and dog, we set the GPS toward this mistake. I am not even going to comment about the food because all I will ever remember is the fact that I was forced to use a porta-potty in 90 degree heat. Being new to the scene and having the dog with us we used the take away window to buy over fifty dollars worth of food (2 rolls and a stuffie?!) to sit at their cool covered picnic tables along the inlet. Little did I know that if you take away to sit in that area you are a second class citizen and are directed to the foul, disgusting porta- potty out back with NO running water and what appeared to be faux hand sanitizer. When I went inside to inquire about a bathroom with running water the server asked if I was eating outback (where I would tip her for table service) or at the picnic tables. Before I could answer she lies and says the indoor bathroom is out of order. Enough said. There my experience, gotta go... have more sites to post this story to. Save your money for an establishment that cares about providing a clean rest room to all paying customers especially when you serve finger food. Hope I don' t come down with Norovirus.

This is place has a great location and the food is very tasty. The nice thing about this place is sitting outside on the water. We visited this place with another couple. I had the Lobster Roll. The roll was great, but small. My fiancee had the shrimp and scallops broiled. They were great. We finished the meal with blueberry pie that was amazing. The only negative to this place is the food portions are small. We will definitely go back.

When I was younger my parents would always take me to Evelyn's and I absolutely loved it. The food was always delicious and the seashell parking lot never ceased to amaze me. After having worked there for a summer I would say my opinion has changed. During the summer of '05 an eletrical fire spread throughout. After this Evelyn's has just not been the same. I am only giving a negative rating because of the prices. From what I had heard they mostly banked on flood insurance (being right on the water) and not so much fire insurance. Because of this, when they finally re-built and got up and running again the prices became ridiculous. It costs nearly 30 dollars for some clams. I'm sorry Jane and Dom, but I'll take my seafood craving to Flo's.

Everything you've heard, read, or seen is true. A summer delight. Beautiful view of the water with a kind and attentive staff. The fried clams were delicious was the sweet malt vinegar. The clam cakes were seafood balls of sunshine. Also we ordered the lobster chow mien and the RI chowder, but we were underwhelmed after all the hype. I would suggest if it sounds strange, then don't order it.

Triple D needs to visit the Liberal Club in Fall River and Chads Chowder House in Somerset. Now they know how to make Fried clams !!

As you can see by the prolific reviewing Evelyn's gets on Yelp, the secret's out on this place. Take that into account when planning your trip, since parking can be a problem. But I don't know of many places at all where you can sit five feet from the water and enjoy a great sunset with good, fairly cheap food. Their batters are dry batters, producing light and crunchy fish and other fried stuffs. The food is yummy for sure, the portions generous - but if not for the waterfront seating, I'd probably stay in Newport and go to Anthony's. Overall a nice and relaxing dinner with friends and decent service. Five people out the door for $85 (including two beers and a dessert). Lastly...do you like port-a-potties? You'll dig it here then. ;-)

The whole fried clams are GREAT!! Guy Fieri opened my eyes to this place on diners drive ins and dives. The Lobster Bisque is unreal and the best I have tatsed and the Stuffies are the stuff of legends ( no pun intended). The whole fried scallops are terrific as are the Lobster rolls. The fried shrimp are also a mmust for seafood lovers. I must say that one could simply order appertozers and be satited and content.

I only give one star to places I won't ever go to again. It's not like I didn't give them ample opportunity...3 times over a 3 year period. Never again. Food is overpriced. Nothing noteworthy. They definitely give you an attitude if you're from out of town (but then again so do 99% of the people in New England). If I didn't know any better I would almost guess their appearance on Diner's, Drive-ins, and Dives resulted in undesired publicity so they are intentionally driving off people to get the "locals" back and permanently drive off tourist business. Fried food is almost impossible to muck up if you know what you're doing so either they don't know what they are doing, they don't give a darn, or both.

Three stars for the food--it's typical New England seafood shack fare--but one star for both the service and the cocktails. The service was absolutely terrible. The place is staffed in the summer by college students on break, which is fine--but they need to be trained!! They all have tunnel vision, paying attention to ONLY the table they happen to notice, and ignoring all other hands waving in the air on their way to/from the inside. We sat outside, but there were at least 5 waitresses, so the inattentiveness didn't seem to be driven by a lack of staff. They kept apologizing profusely--stop apologizing and just pay attention! Second, the cocktails (which took about 30 minutes to get). If you're going to advertise a watermelon margarita as a "summer special" drink, then your customer will expect the drink to have some real watermelon in it. The drink was neon pink, tasted like a jolly rancher, and surely had no tequila in it. My husband's "lime basil" martini wasn't much better. Long story short, if you go there, order from the take out side, sit at the picnic tables off to the right while you enjoy the beautiful view...and stick with a beer for drinks!

Beautiful views, simple concept, and good food. How can you beat it? There's a back patio area that is full-service, but there is also a window at which you can order and then take your food to go, or to the covered picnic tables lining the shore or to the inside portion of Evelyn's...if the weather isn't so good. The chowder was nothing I've tasted before. Instead of being thick and creamy, it was a thinner broth that was almost transparent and much different from the traditional chowders I've previously had. It was very delicious. I ordered the lemon pepper fish and fries, and while it was quite tasty, I doubt that I'd order it again should I return. Next time I'm going for the clam cakes and a big cup of chowder.

This is my favorite clam shack on the water - ever! We ate in the inside dining room because it was a bit chilly, but the outside tables are right on the water and the view is really pretty. Between the 4 of us, we had the clam cakes, clam strips, RI chowder, fries, onion rings, blt, crab roll... it was a bounty of fried foods and all of it was amazing.

This place ROCKS! A great place to go on the motorcycle or by boat or any other way, just make sure you go. The food is always great, especially when you eat outside and take in the ever changing crowd of locals and tourists. The Crabby Patty is one of our favorites with the hint of horseradish to spice it up. Also a big hit is the Rhode Island Chowder done like your Moma would (if she was a local). Also check out the Stuffies and the Clam Cakes for true Rhode Island fare. Make your way here, its worth the effort.

Stopped here recently with a group. I agree it is probably a bit overrated, but the few times I have been here I have ordered fish and chips and found them to be fairly fresh with a nice batter. I usually steer clear of the fried-fish/hamburger type places because they're not too healthy and usually, not too good, either. So I didn't expect to like Evelyn's. However,they offer more than just fried food, in a very nice ocean-front settting with beer and wine. I really can't argue with that. We enjoyed the chowder (Rhode Island-style- very nice!), the clam cakes, a lobster roll and the fish and chips. Huge portions. I'm not sure I get all the hoopla. The clams are OK, although slightly burnt, the clam cakes are also OK, but slightly doughy, and the prices are pretty high for Tiverton. If you really want clams, go to the Clam Box in Ipswich.

A seasonal staple in the fried seafood summer arsenal. Shrimp baskets to stuffies. There is outdoor seating, indoor seating, sit in your car or even bring your boat to their small dock. Take plenty of napkins, you will need them with the fried food wonders. If your in town it's a place you have to try. Careful, the seagulls are very bold here watch your food because they are. My favorites are the shrimp basket (small sized shrimp) and an order of clam cakes, very consistent.

Driving back home from Connecticut, we decided to stop at a clam shack in RI to grab lunch. I did some "on the fly" research on the iPhone in the car and this came up with a slew of other options. I decided on this place because it was one of the most convenient for our travels and it was not in Newport. Glad we did because it was exactly what we were looking for. No frills for sure but the outside seating, with views of the inlet, is very pretty. I can only assume this place is a madhouse in the height of summer. Our waitress was friendly and efficient. We started with clam cakes and a cup of fish chowder for my husband. The clam cakes were good. Basically fried dough with some clam meat. The chowder was a hit with my husband. Our 5 year old liked it too! My husband had the lobster roll (comes in small or large) which was all lobster meat -- no mayo, no fillings. they will serve butter and/or mayo on the side. I had the small fried clam plate, which was a perfect size. The housemade cole slaw was tasty and not drenched in dressing. The clams were wonderful -- greasy and fried perfectly. They were mildly sweet but still not as good as Ipswich clams. The only disappointment was the kid's meal -- we got negative reviews for the mozzarella sticks from our 5 year old. Oh well... who eats those at a clam shack anyway? Easy to find location, but parking spaces are a commodity. We ended up parking on the opposite side of the road, which is challenging because you are crossing a main road with no street lights. So look both ways, run, then go grab a seat for some yummy fried clams.

My boyfriend and I saw this place on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives and we just had to go there when we visited our friend in Rhode Island . The view was nice as we sat and ate our food on the patio over looking the water . Food was very good and was worth the drive .Their chicken pot pie is the best ! An artery clogging heart attack that tastes soooo good. I was a bit excessive when I visited but it was worth the excessive workouts that I have to partake in now. I had the My Super Greek Salad that had crabmeat on it. I would have preferred the crabmeat to be jumbo lump but it was tasty none the less. From there I went on to the combo plate which was fried scallops and fried whole clams. Sooooo good. I was pleasently surprised to see that the scallops weren't coated in an overwhelming batter. It was delicious. Now, that lobster roll. Oh yes!!!!!! Big juicy chunks of lobster and a whole bunch of it. The visit here was made by that lobster roll. Just thinking about it makes me want to do a drive by before heading back to NYC for an on the rode snack! Next I tried the lobster bisque. Tasty but the sherry was a little over powering. Lastly, I told you I was excessive, I had the fried ice cream. One word...Orgasmic. Enjoy.

We stopped by on May 30, 2015. The food was OK! Nothing special ): The location is waterfront, but if you need to use their restroom..they will give you a round-around. I think they don't want you to use the restroom as their customer. No restroom sign. I asked the waitress where was the restroom, she told me it was outside. I walked outside and found myself near to kitchen and asked an employee where is the restroom...she told me it is inside the building! What???!! I found out later ...they have restroom inside the building, but the first waitress I asked gave me a wrong info...even though...I was in front of the bathroom door without a bathroom signage, she told me to keep walking. Thanks people....I will bring my business somewhere! I am not coming back!!!

Deplorable, quite frankly. The stuffies were Matlaw's stuffed clams that you get frozen at the supermarket. How do know? Because I have them in my freezer. Clam cakes and chowder were good. If I had known the fried seafood platter was $52 I never would have ordered it. That is just insane. It's exactly what you get for $20 anywhere else in the state. Not to mention the young girls working are absolutely rude. I saw a girl yell at a guy about something when it was her that misheard him. That couple left. That was before we were even seated. I wish I had followed them.

I love Evelyn's, love everything about it. I love the location, I love the servers, and I love the food. If you love seafood like I do, especially clams and lobster rolls, this is the place. My husband grew up very near Evelyn's and his parents still live not far in Little Compton, so whenever we are visiting we stop at Evelyn's. My favorite thing is the fried clams..the fried, whole belly clams. They are to die for; not too much breading, never greasy, just perfect clams with the right amount of breading. The lobster roll is equally good, full of big chunks of lobster. Nothing better than a big plate of clams, a Newport Storm, and sitting outside looking at Nanaquaket Pond.

I've been coming here every summer for the past few years and it's always been an enjoyable experience. Unfortunately this time it was not! I decided to take a friend here for dinner last night (9/7/14) and the only good thing I can say is that our waitress was good. First off the prices have doubled since my last visit! Seriously, $52 for a seafood platter at a drive-in, this is unheard of. Maybe being features on the food network has gone to their head. As for the flood it was so greasy you could see it dripping off the clams and scallops. The clam cakes had no clams in them mostly dough and the crab cake patties were beyond mushy. The icing on the cake came after we finished eating when all of a sudden a huge rat walked right by us. We were so sick after seeing this rodent we literally wanted to puke. I told our waitress and she wasn't even that surprised and she said oh we haven't seen any of those this year. He apparently told the mgr but he never came out to apologize. I will never go back here again not will I recommend this dump. I was totally embarrassed being my friend here.

We came here with some friends for dinner after spending the day at 3rd Beach. We sat outside and I must say, the view was AMAZING. Our waitress was very attentive and literally checked on us every 5 minutes. Our drinks were served in styrofoam cups...I'm not sure if that's what they normally do or not, but I thought that was a little odd. I had the Grilled Scallops with horseradish sauce. The scallops were fresh and cooked perfectly. My husband had the Lobster Roll, which was simple, but he enjoyed it. The prices are a bit high, but that's because you're paying for the view.

I found the setting wonderful and wait staff very friendly. We had a seat on the outdoor patio that was a little close to the door, lots of traffic. That's okay it was primetime. I ordered a clam starter, small ($24). Clams were small and broken to little bits. My lobster roll ($24) was the meat of one small lobster, two claws, one body and chucks, mayo on the side. Onion rings ($5) were about seven or eights nice large crispy rings. The clam plate was ($32) the same as the starter very small broken clams. Add a couple of fruity drinks and a tip and the bill was $150. Considering the quality of the clams and the cost I've come to the conclusion that "I've been there and done that" on to the next place. I should have paid more attention to the reviews posted by locals and returning customers.

This has been a mainstay restaurant for many many years. It used to be good. It could be one of the most expensive "drive ins". It got a major boost from Guy Fieri The seafood combination is now $52. That is for picnic tables.. The water view is probably the main draw. There are long lines and inadequate parking so you are forced to park along the road which is 2 way and not wide. The menu is 99% fried.The french fries are frozen processed. I asked if the fries were made on sight and she said"We are much too busy to do that". There are very few choices in Tiverton so I guess that is part of the reason they do well Lots of tourists.... A much better place is Blount"s in Fall River,Mass. It is a little drive but the fish and chips and the clam cakes are delicious and it's not an arm and a leg. it does not have any view so you have to decide if it's the food or the view.... I do not like any of the restaurants in Tiverton.......it sorely needs a well priced varied menu that would appeal to a mix of people.

The three star average for this place is about right. I'll sum up my experience this way - the view is nice, service was fine, but paying $210 for four seafood plates, calamari, clam cakes, and four drinks is pretty pricey. It'd be one thing if the seafood was the best around as then I'd be ok with their prices, but the clam cakes were mostly dough and the fried claims in my combo plate were underwhelming. Will I be back? Nah, don't think so as Rhode Island has numerous "on the water" seafood joints that offer a better experience. I also agree with another reviewer that charging "market price" for fried fish (cod, scrod) is crazy.

Went here after seeing it on Triple D! I have lived in RI all my life and I normally don't venture to the East Bay. I ordered the fish and chips and my wife had the clam strips platter. I am going to say that it was probably the best fried fish I have ever had! Light, fresh, and hot it was amazing! My wife's clam strips were the freshest I've ever had! We sat out on the patio and the view was amazing. I found the servers to be fast, attentive and friendly. I only have two complaints: one, the prices were rather high for fried seafood. The two pounds of fried seafood was a whopping $52!!!! Two, the French fries were rather pedestrian. For a place that has such fresh and delicious fish, homemade fries would have put the meal out of sight!! I am definitely making a trip back before the summer is out!!

Lobster chow mein, something for everybody. As a clam belly veteran, decided to get adventurous with the menu and order the lobster chow mein. Mind you, this is a Fall River crunchy chow mein, with thick sauce (with celery) heaped upon golden ribbons of fried noodles. While the base model is about $6, the addition of lobster - essentially a whole peeled lobster, quartered - ups the price to $24, perhaps a travesty of a "market price" when lobster is as inexpensive as it is now. Oddly, the lobster wasn't even the best part. Instead, it was the sport of spooning/forking the forest of noodles down before they sogged. The Chinese don't know what they're missing.

We're west coasters with a summer house in Tiverton so this is where we get our nearest Lobster Roll fix. Short summary is that it's good but not great. Three places to sit; 1) indoors for night or rain, 2) outdoors with a great view and waitress service, 3) picnic tables with the same view for take out. Service has always been good. However, we tend to avoid this place on weekends or at prime lunch hour and get a better result when they're less packed. The parking lot can't accommodate their seating and people park on the street. The food varies. Fried belly clams are good but like all their items they tend to go heavy on the grease. The Clam Cakes are almost all dough - had a hard time finding any clam. Scallops were tasty but The Bayside had fresher, more tender ones. Good but not great Lobster roll.

Fried Food never tasted so Good! This is my go to place in the summer to get a fisherman platter (fried fish, scallops, shrimp, clams, lobster) and Evelyn's is the Best. Fresh seafood is the key and they have the freshest! They have outside seating and you can choose to use the pick-up window and sit on picnic benches or sit at traditional tables with a waitstaff and a full bar. The view from either choice is the same beautiful water view.

Where to begin... I ordered fish and chips and the price was "market price". Are you serious?... For Cod? That should have tipped me off. I also only got a tiny bit of tarter sauce in my order. It was probably an ounce or so when in reality I'm looking for 3+. By the way, the market price was $10.99. Why this fluctuates is beyond me, but maybe Evelyn knows a bit about the economy of the fish market then I gave her credit for. My wife got the hushpuppies which were bland and dry. The chowder was not good either. The only redeeming item was the stuffed quahog. EVERYTHING WAS WAY OVERPRICED!

My wife and I went out for a Sunday drive and we saw Evelyns Drive In. It seemed like a nice local eatery and decided to support a local company. The best part of our meal was not the actual meal it was the amazing VIEW! We ordered a appetizer of clam cakes but we think they forgot the clams. All we could taste was the dough. The wife ordered the scallop roll, which was ok but for $25??? I dont think so! I ordered the whole belly clam plate which the clams were burnt and tasted sandy. It had about 9 clams french fries and a side of cole slaw. For $26???? $80 for lunch for 2 people are you serious??? My opinion OVERPRICED and would not repeat. Next time we will got to chelos in warwick (waterfront). Much better food and a great view as well. PS. And chelos does not use paper plates and cups!

Great location, great food - only "ok" value. That bout sums it up. We stopped in on a gorgeous summer night, sat outside, had a drink and just about everything we had was tasty. Had the broiled scallop dinner - the wife had the stuffed sole. All great. Also have tried the fried stuff - also good. Only problem is that everything feels 4-6 dollars more expensive than it should be. The people sitting next to us let it affect their enjoyment - just be forewarned, treat it as a treat and enjoy!

TOTAL RIPOFF. Went to Evelyn't for the first time this season, and the owners should be ashamed of themselves. They are known for lobster rolls with all tail meat. The draw back is that you have to cut the lobster and mix it with the mayo yourself, so it isn't cold like most lobster rolls.Last season the price was in the $17-$23 range. This year the hot dog roll with 3oz of lobster and Kraft mayo on the side was $18.99.They would not sub anything for the fries or coleslaw- an order of sweet potato fries was $5.99 and a side salad was 6.99. When my plate arrived it was SAD. A small hotdog roll, a silver dollar size coleslaw and 3 small pieces of lobster which were clearly from a one pound lobster- not all tail either-a small sad claw and lots of the fin-not edible. It was like a joke. Basically I paid $19 for 3 oz of lobster= at that rate it would be $101 a pound- double what you would pay in a fish market. There isn't a restaurant in the state that doesn't give you fries and coleslaw and very few would not sub a salad or something else. WHO DO THESE PEOPLE FROM MA THINK THEY ARE? They are riding high on TV reviews which are not holding up. Look at the unrecommended review- 4 pages of 1 and 2 star reviews from people who opened Yelp accounts just to write the review- that is never a good sign and one Yelp tries to hide from you!

The stuffed quahogs are horrible, the fried food (all of it) is greasy, greasy, greasy. Not sure if it's old oil/lard or what. The clamcakes are greasy and have just about no clams in them. For the price you pay, you would think you were getting quality food, but you are not. With the plethora of clam shacks in RI, there is no reason to go here.

Great Location. Right on the water. Heard about it on "Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives" There is about 20 seats indoors and twice that outside right on the water. The price was $40 with tip for 2 adults and a toddler. No booze. We had clam chowder (clear broth, Rhode Island style is what the claim) and very tasty. Buffalo tenders (sorry, not germane to the restraunt but I cant live without them). Fried Clams and Crab cakes. All excellent, my wife and I had plenty to share with my small daughter. Cons Parking is pretty bad. You are off a main road so if coming from the north it can be tricky to get in on the weekends since there is can be a line getting into the parking lot. I would park across the street or near the takeout window. Dont go into the 15 car area (unless you have a small compact), i.e. the first parking opportunity on your right if coming from the north.

Guy Fieri and Phantom Gourmet be damned. Evelyn's, while a nice high-end clam shack, is not the hot dining Aphrodite on a pedestal that these foodie dudes on the take make it out to be. Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed my lunch. The service was super-friendly (if not overly attentive after the food was dropped). The view was spectacular. Yadda yadda yadda. It was a-ok, as the 3.4 star rating would suggest. It was not blow your socks off amazing, not a "here, take my car keys and go now, you fool!" type of place. The food: contrary to whoever the Yelper was that knocked the fries, they were the 2nd best part of my meal. Crabcakes were tasty but lacked subtlety with an overly fishy and onion-y aftertaste, compounded by an overpowering horseradish mayo. Two suggestions, guys: tone down the onions and present with a more neutral savory condiment. The cole slaw, however, was magnificent stuff; I usually hate cole slaw and use it to throw at annoying elderly fellow diners (of which there were an obscene abundance this Tuesday lunch, carping at the servers, slurping their chowder loudly; it was like the bar scene with the reptiles in "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas"). However, this slaw was perfection, lightly dressed, vinegary, crunchy, with a distinct cabbage and carrot flavor. Loved it! What threw me was how expensive it was: $24 for a kids meal, a crabcake platter with two crabcakes and a small handful of fries and slaw, and two lemonades (how cheap are we these days that some places still don't give free refills?). The expense is patently bullshit, as what you're paying for is good diner food (yeah, I get it: whole bellied clams are expensive. I worked in seafood restaurants for years; don't screw with me) with a hotsie-totsie view. Fried seafood at Evelyn's is even more expensive than Legal's, for Pete's sake! (And they RAPE you over at Legal's on EVERYTHING!) So Evelyn's then works best as a sometime repast when someone (a rich grandma, perhaps) is treating you to lunch or dinner. Again, there's not anything technically WRONG with the place except for the expense, but I think it'll be a while before I come back. Next time, though, it'll be a clam-fest.

I have been to many roadside seafood shacks being from New England. After seeing the famous Guy Fieri rave about Evelyn's I gave it another shot. They don't disappoint your wallet! I felt like I was financially raped! The fried seafood platter was good with a lot of food but for $40 too much. What really made me wish for K-Y was the tuna sandwich for my daughter @6 I expected a large tuna roll with fries. I got a small hotdog bun barely with 2 teaspoons of tuna and no fries! Don't waste the trip there are way better places, don't be fooled by the media hype:)

I love the DRIVE down to Evelyn's and this place itself is just as breathtaking looking out towards the water and some sailboats. You'll recognize Evelyn's when you see a Coca-Cola sign. I looked outside at the Take-out window but didn't notice anyone lining up or the window open so I followed others inside the doors where it looks to be a Diner setup. Walk out towards the other end where the doorway leads you to the PATIO area or go on the other side where there is covered area with picnic tables. It was awhile before I got a menu as there is non-stop patrons coming in. When I found the menu I went for the obvious choice of Rhode Island Clam Chowder & Clam Cakes($6.59) and it came in less than a minute. Clam Chowder had a LIGHT clear base with a few spoonful of Milk. The fillings were a good portion of Potatoes and Quahog Clam Bits. I can see that because of this clear broth, you're more able to taste the Clams in the broth as well as the Clams themselves which are the highlight of this dish. Clam Cakes were doughy with roughly 2-3 whole Littleneck or Cherrystone Clams PER cake. It is doughy but had a bit of interesting CHEW as well which were well complemented when dipping into the Chowder which is the one and only way to eat this meal. You cannot eat this meal as 2 separate items but have to see it as a WHOLE. When the Clam Cake is dipped it becomes more chewy and less doughy which makes it GREAT! I also had the Dessert that the table in front of me had, cold Grape Nut Pudding($3.99) which seemed to be similar to an Egg Custard with a thin Cake topping then Cinnamon and Nutmeg on top. The ONLY issue I had was the when I walked off the table so that the next guest group awaiting could settle in, I walked inside towards the Cashier but still had to wait for my server to cash me out. She returned $3.00 when I paid for a $13.45 meal with a $20.00 bill. She was then re-called by another staff to look into this matter and she provided $7.00 as change. Maybe I'm just foreign to this payment concept, I'll study up next time.

This place is a hidden gem! Newport may get all the glory but Tiverton has just as good of views, less crowds and more peace. I was going to knock off a couple of reviews today and Evelyn's was going to be one, but I read Jef S.'s review a couple below mine and he pretty much (and more descriptively and eloquently) said what I was intended to say. The ONLY difference between what Jef S rated and wrote and my opinion is I would give them two stars, Jef gave them three. I whole-heartily agree with him, the fries and the slaw were the best part of the meal. The expense of the meal ensure's that visiting Evelyn's was a one-and-done for me. The service was friendly and attentive, and if you must go, I recommend sitting at the bar since the restaurant is super small and I felt for the folks shoe-horned into the tables. The bar had a bit more clearance from other patrons and servers walking by. $118 dollars for three people to brag about fries and cole slaw just doesn't get it for me. I wanted knock-your-socks-off seafood, and although the seafood selections we ordered were edible, they were nothing noteworthy, especially for the cost. Honestly, I've had better crab cakes and fried seafood in Columbus Ohio at street festivals - hence my 2 stars, "Meh. I've experienced better".

French fries are frozen prepackaged.. not hand cut, which is ridiculously lazy at the prices charged. One Porta-potty with no hand washing... this for the entire staff and customer population. Absolutely Disgusting. Clearly the sanitation inspector for Tiverton is on the take. Grease covered condiment bottles and menus Seafood was ok, but definitely not appropriate for the prices charged. Overall, a very underwhelming experience. I could do better (for a lot cheaper) at home.

My female friend and I went into the dining room only to wait awhile, somewhat awkwardly to be seated. After about five minutes of being ignored, by a well staffed yet empty dining room, we thought the best way of getting something to eat was through the take out window. We got the food rather quickly there..(why did I give a tip for fastfood non served, take out?). The clam chowder was well ok nothing special and so were the clam cakes.. In summary? Great location and reputation busy during the tourist season but not above average.

Lovely. I don't know if I'd consider opening a restaurant now that Yelp exists. Small businesses have overhead costs. You're paying for the meal, the setting, and the experience. I think this place is wonderful. Casual. Clean. Family style. I think family-owned. I find the staff to be nice and helpful. Very New England. The perfect stop on your way home from Goosewing. Take out window offers all kinds of fried seafood. Market price in some cases which is only fair. Otherwise its comparable. Order something and go sit at the picnic tables by the bay. Very beautiful. Very clean and well kept. I've been to the takeout window many times. Its always been happy w it. I wasn't crazy about the dill in the clam chowder, but its probably a family recipe. You can also dine inside or outside in the restaurant and be waited on. Also on the water. Three of us and all of our meals were great, as was the service. I've been a bunch of times. I'd recommend.

Went there because we were going to an outdoor concert and needed some food Got some lobster rolls as that seemed like a good idea to prevent fried food from getting greasy while we drove from Evelyn's to Little Compton Lobster rolls were basically stale hot dog rolls with boiled lobster and a tiny cup of mayo on the side with crappy fries. $20 per roll. No napkins and no utensils provided. You must be joking. Lobster was tough and full of shredded pieces versus decent meat This place rates amongst the biggest rip offs I have ever seen. There are so many better places in and around the area that know how to make a proper lobster roll. If you choose not to mix the mayonnaise before, have the decency to tell your customers and include what they need to do so when they get a to go order.

We go here quite often considering we live 90 minutes away round trip. We recommend to friends and we go at least 2-3 times in a week when we do our summer vacation in the area. On a recent Sunday at 4:10PM in the afternoon two of us stopped by to sit outside and have a couple of beers and eat. In late June on a beautiful summer weekend they did not have all their tables set up for customers. Some open large tables were off-limits "in case any large groups showed up"? Our only choice were two tables right next to the back entrance of the dining room. Yet two larger tables were wide open, but could not be used because of the phantom large groups that may appear any minute. (We were 2 long time paying customers standing right in front of them and they let us walk away) Common sense tells me that it was 4PM well before any kind of dinner rush on a Sunday afternoon and they should of let us sit where we wanted OR opened up one of the 10 empty smaller tables. God forbid if more customers showed up. They lost 2 paying customers because of this. For the prices they are charging and the amount of times over the years we have been here, I feel jaded by this experience and will not go back. In fact, we drove to Bristol and relaxed at Quitos instead.

This place is marvelous! We're from Brooklyn, New York and we had dinner here on our last night of stay in Tiverton. The staff are so pleasant and very attentive to our needs. They also keep the place clean. There's no wait time so we were seated right away. It helped us a lot especially with our hungry 10-month old boy. They offer market prices which is only fair because their menu is very special! We had lobster lomein and scallop roll. Their food tastes AMAZING! The view is also the best. We were watching the sunset on the water while we were enjoying the one the best dinners we've had as a family. I highly recommend this place to tourists!

The batter is amazing! Very light, but just enough. We got the seafood platter. If I had to do it again I would just get the fish platter. The clam cakes needed more clam, so you are not missing anything if you don't taste them. The shrimp, scallops and calamari were all good. Get the fish platter, you won't be disappointed! If you are feeling rich, get the seafood platter. It is enough for 2-3 people, but you will only get a couple of bites of fish (which is the best part).

Stopped by Evelyn's on Monday afternoon with my family and sat on the back patio with my family on a perfect summer day. It was so relaxing and the staff was very friendly and went out of their way to make sure that we had a great dining experience. My daughter got the lobster chow mein for the first time, because of all the great reviews of it and she loved it. A few of us shared the Seafood platter which was huge and delicious. We always get a dozen clam cakes as those are our favorite, and some New England clam chowder to take home. Hopefully we will get back at there at least one more time before the end of the season. It's definitely worth the trip down from Boston.

Overpriced. $45 for a small fried clam and half a dozen clamcakes is unreasonable. They weren't even that good, there were 2 tiny specks of clam in tbe 3 cakes I ate, sad. The fried clams were good, but knowing how much I paid for each one just killed the happy feeling I could have gotten while eating them. The Girls working the take out counter are extremely rude and won't tell you the prices untill your order is ready and its time to pay up. I remember going here all the time as a kid with my late grandmother, too bad I can't afford to take my kids here. Too bad.

My family wanted to try this place on the way back from Newport so I came along - we figured a quick stop at a clam shack wouldn't seriously impact our travel time, and would give us one last good seafood experience as we wrapped up our vacation. Fail. Firstly, we ordered at the take-out counter and the wait was still a good 15-20 mins for our food. And the place wasn't that busy on this particular Monday evening. Secondly, not feeling like fried food myself, I ordered a lobster roll. I wasn't told that there was more than one size, so I assumed that the roughly $20 order they rang me up for was the standard size. What I received was a joke: a few pieces of lobster that looked lost in the tiny hot dog bun they were sitting in. All it came with (apart from mayo and butter) was a similarly miniscule portion of fries. I found out after the fact that there was a larger-sized lobster roll for around $25. WTF - the girl who took my order should have told me there was more than one size instead of automatically ringing me up for the biggest rip-off! Needless to say, I left hungry, even after picking at my family's fries and onion rings. By the way, the onion rings were around $5, and there were only about 5 onion rings in the thing. Not extra-fancy onion rings or anything like that that would justify the $1 per ring price. Nothing else we ordered (fish sandwich, crab cakes) was particularly great. The only thing this place has going for it is a nice location on the water. But on the whole, it's overpriced, the menu is poorly written, there is poor communication from the staff, excessive wait times, and average food. Move on to other clam shacks in the area - this place doesn't measure up to the competition.

While the lobster was super fresh in the lobster roll, no celery and add your own mayo really disappointed. Along with the choice of only one side (I picked cole slaw) it came in a paper thimble and was very skimpy. Basically I find this place very overrated and extremely overpriced. Not worth the money.

I really hate having to give this place a mere two star review, I really do. I grew up in Tiverton and still reside there and wish I could give a local business a better rating, especially one that has been here for quite some time and was featured on the Food Network show "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives." Unfortunately, this place does not live up to it's hype, in my opinion. It is always packed from the time it opens in April until the time it closes in October, though many of the plates are from neighboring states such as Mass, Conn., New York, New Hampshire, etc. with a few RI plates in between. So yes, it is a tourist trap for the most part. Okay, okay now on to the real review: Evelyn's Drive-In is in a gorgeous spot, I give it that. To watch a sunset here truly is amazing any time of year. It is nestled on the beautiful Nanaquaket pond in south Tiverton and the water on the pond is so always has the appearance of glass, with the occasional water bird passing by. So the atmosphere is top notch. But for me, sadly, the positives for this place end there :(. Not to mention that I am here to eat, not watch a beautiful sunset. I could do that for free anywhere in this state. The food is exteremely over-priced in my opinion. I understand it's not going to be like a bill from McDonald's or something of that nature, as it is mainly seafood, but my son and I came here early in the summer and I got a crab cake sandwich with coffee milk and he got a chicken pot pite and his own order of coffee milk. The bill was well over $20.00. And one would presume food that expensive HAS to be amazing, but quite the contrary I found. The crab cake sandwich I ordered was more like a crab crepe. Thin, flavorless, and difficult to chew. My son said his pot pie was "just okay." Perhaps it was just an "off" day for the employees, but we waited over a good half hour for our food to come out...and there was only one other party ahead of us. My son is 9, so he was getting antsy and hungry, which in turn made me feel bad. This was my second time here, and I really REALLY wanted to like this place, I really did, because the first time I came here I was let down by how bland the lobster roll tasted, and just thought maybe it was just that one dish. Alas, the food here just is not worth the price tag attached like several others mentioned. Sadly, the one real good thing going for it is it's location. Tourists, you can find much better seafood in a state that is renowned for fresh seafood at a more reasonable price elsewhere.

OK fine, I'll give Evelyn's an update, even though they made me use the Portapotty with no hand sanitizer right before my meal that one time. Clam chowder here is thin and brothlike with a touch of cream (Rhode Island Style) but it's pretty dang delicious. I always get the clam strips when I come here, so I can't comment on much of anything else, but they're good, though the portions could be bigger. Sort of expensive for small-ish portions and terrible service, but the view is great. I'd recommend eating out back if there isn't a wait.

5/7/2011: For the life of me I can not understand how this place gets good reviews for either their chowder or clam cakes. I found the clam cakes to be nothing more than Bisquick balls. If I had some butter and real maple syrup they would have been outstanding pancake balls. The chowder was nothing to write home about other than the butter floating on the top. Seriously, what do people see in this place? If you want good clam cakes and chowder take the drive to Aunt Carries in Narragansett. Now that's a real clam cake.. I wont even mention the chow mien sandwich I ordered on a whim... I think they should call it the "soggy sandwich". I always thought Fall River chow mien was supposed to be crispy? I think it probably was before it sat under the warmer for 10 minutes. I should add, I lived in Tiverton for 10 years some years ago and have been to this place many times years ago before the fire. I wish I had just kept driving by... waste of $26 bucks. The best part of this road trip was Gray's Ice Cream down the road a few miles... can not go wrong with a Gray's coffee malt.

Guy Fieri brought me to the Food Network. I was never able to sit through Julia Childs, delightful a personality as she was. But there is just something about Guy Fieri plundering through the kitchens of nonpretentious places filled with grilling meat, fish frying and "huge hunks of meat" (to steal a line from Jimmy Buffet). After watching Guy Fieri at Evelyns, I knew it was on my list of must see places. The view is exactly as Guy Fieri filmed it. It is spectacular. You can sit on a picnic table and look out at the Nanaquaket River. In the summer, the sun sets around 7:30 pm and it's just a gorgeous place to sit and relax with fried clams and lobster and chowder. The night I was there we tried the fried whole clams which were greaseless and not overdone with batter. I give it an A for a grade. We also had fried calamari which were acceptable but not the equal of the fried calamari you get at places like Umbertos on Mulberry Street in NYC or at the Blue Grotto in Providence. If you love calamari, as I do, the best thing to do is to save your hunger pangs for the chefs at the Blue Grotto. We also tried a lobster combination with corn and cole slaw. The lobster was fresh and tasty although I prefer a whole lobster smothered in melted butter. But that is just a personal preference. For those of us who are Diners, Dives and Drive Ins nuts, we just like to say we ate where Guy did.

Overpriced, mediocre seafood, served with an attitude. Chowder is thin and short on clams. Fried foods are flavorless and greasy. The location is nice, although parking is difficult. We live a few miles from Evelyn's, but only go there once per year. We give them a chance every spring when they open, and they never fail to disappoint. (Hey, we try to like the place, we really do!) There are so many other places in this area to get your fried seafood or clam cakes and chowder fix. Flo's, for one! Cheaper and better all around. Try Evelyn's once, if you must, but be prepared to spend a chunk of change and leave with regret.

We stopped by on a beautiful Saturday to finally enjoy Evelyn's seafood. Well as it turns out, the market price at Evelyn's is about 10-20 dollars higher than every other place around. Are you serious, $29.99 for whole belly clams? I saw the two $$ and didn't think prices would be as high as they were. The lobster roll was $25-$30 as well. After getting the market prices, I decided to get the chicken sandwich and my GF got the side of crab-cakes. Both were good, not great. They were good for the price. The view is great but our particular waitress was awful. I was surprised because previous reviewers glowed about good service. I didn't realize there was a board of market prices so I asked the waitress and got a dirty look. It wasn't until I heard her mention the listing to another table. She also never listed the specials for us. I feel that once we asked the market price on the lobster roll and clams, and passed, she decided we weren't worth the time. I"m sorry, but I didn't feel like dropping 75 dollars on a quick afternoon lunch. We waited for drink refills for about 20 minutes, each time she passed I feel like she avoided eye contact. I actually had to stand up as she was about to scurry by to get her attention. The same charade happened when trying to get the check. People who sat half hour after us ate their food and got their bill before us. What was supposed to be a quick seafood lunch turned into a long, run of the mill experience. I'm really intrigued to taste some of their seafood but based on reviews, don't feel it will be worth the price. Again this review isn't about the food as much the service. I think the Price Range should be adjusted to a $$$ (based on food prices with a couple beers) as the average seafood price is between $25-$40, at least that was the market price the time we went. We probably won't be back, as there are plenty of other places serving fried clams, shrimp, scallops, and seafood platters for much more reasonable MARKET prices.

Way overpriced for what you get. It's the Joy Ride to Little Compton tourist trap. The place is always busy and the food is just so-so. As other people have stated your wallet is burning when you leave there.

Tourist Trap! Written up in tripple d and others the seafood is pritty good but you can find better at amy of the other local clam shack type resteraunts my main beef the prices holy cow!! Like really I just spent a days pay on a fishermans platter that is just ok?the one thing they got going for them great clam cakes they do them just right the view is ok not spectacular as many say its a view of a estuary not senic ocean view if you are driving buy and you got a hankering for a good clam cake come on in! If not drive around the corner down the street or up the road a bit all have better choices at 1/3 the price!

The above rating is no stars. Traveling down from the cape with my husband and dog, we set the GPS toward this mistake. I am not even going to comment about the food because all I will ever remember is the fact that I was forced to use a porta-potty in 90 degree heat. Being new to the scene and having the dog with us we used the take away window to buy over fifty dollars worth of food (2 rolls and a stuffie?!) to sit at their cool covered picnic tables along the inlet. Little did I know that if you take away to sit in that area you are a second class citizen and are directed to the foul, disgusting porta- potty out back with NO running water and what appeared to be faux hand sanitizer. When I went inside to inquire about a bathroom with running water the server asked if I was eating outback (where I would tip her for table service) or at the picnic tables. Before I could answer she lies and says the indoor bathroom is out of order. Enough said. There my experience, gotta go... have more sites to post this story to. Save your money for an establishment that cares about providing a clean rest room to all paying customers especially when you serve finger food. Hope I don' t come down with Norovirus.

This is place has a great location and the food is very tasty. The nice thing about this place is sitting outside on the water. We visited this place with another couple. I had the Lobster Roll. The roll was great, but small. My fiancee had the shrimp and scallops broiled. They were great. We finished the meal with blueberry pie that was amazing. The only negative to this place is the food portions are small. We will definitely go back.

When I was younger my parents would always take me to Evelyn's and I absolutely loved it. The food was always delicious and the seashell parking lot never ceased to amaze me. After having worked there for a summer I would say my opinion has changed. During the summer of '05 an eletrical fire spread throughout. After this Evelyn's has just not been the same. I am only giving a negative rating because of the prices. From what I had heard they mostly banked on flood insurance (being right on the water) and not so much fire insurance. Because of this, when they finally re-built and got up and running again the prices became ridiculous. It costs nearly 30 dollars for some clams. I'm sorry Jane and Dom, but I'll take my seafood craving to Flo's.

Everything you've heard, read, or seen is true. A summer delight. Beautiful view of the water with a kind and attentive staff. The fried clams were delicious was the sweet malt vinegar. The clam cakes were seafood balls of sunshine. Also we ordered the lobster chow mien and the RI chowder, but we were underwhelmed after all the hype. I would suggest if it sounds strange, then don't order it.

Triple D needs to visit the Liberal Club in Fall River and Chads Chowder House in Somerset. Now they know how to make Fried clams !!

As you can see by the prolific reviewing Evelyn's gets on Yelp, the secret's out on this place. Take that into account when planning your trip, since parking can be a problem. But I don't know of many places at all where you can sit five feet from the water and enjoy a great sunset with good, fairly cheap food. Their batters are dry batters, producing light and crunchy fish and other fried stuffs. The food is yummy for sure, the portions generous - but if not for the waterfront seating, I'd probably stay in Newport and go to Anthony's. Overall a nice and relaxing dinner with friends and decent service. Five people out the door for $85 (including two beers and a dessert). Lastly...do you like port-a-potties? You'll dig it here then. ;-)

The whole fried clams are GREAT!! Guy Fieri opened my eyes to this place on diners drive ins and dives. The Lobster Bisque is unreal and the best I have tatsed and the Stuffies are the stuff of legends ( no pun intended). The whole fried scallops are terrific as are the Lobster rolls. The fried shrimp are also a mmust for seafood lovers. I must say that one could simply order appertozers and be satited and content.

I only give one star to places I won't ever go to again. It's not like I didn't give them ample opportunity...3 times over a 3 year period. Never again. Food is overpriced. Nothing noteworthy. They definitely give you an attitude if you're from out of town (but then again so do 99% of the people in New England). If I didn't know any better I would almost guess their appearance on Diner's, Drive-ins, and Dives resulted in undesired publicity so they are intentionally driving off people to get the "locals" back and permanently drive off tourist business. Fried food is almost impossible to muck up if you know what you're doing so either they don't know what they are doing, they don't give a darn, or both.

Three stars for the food--it's typical New England seafood shack fare--but one star for both the service and the cocktails. The service was absolutely terrible. The place is staffed in the summer by college students on break, which is fine--but they need to be trained!! They all have tunnel vision, paying attention to ONLY the table they happen to notice, and ignoring all other hands waving in the air on their way to/from the inside. We sat outside, but there were at least 5 waitresses, so the inattentiveness didn't seem to be driven by a lack of staff. They kept apologizing profusely--stop apologizing and just pay attention! Second, the cocktails (which took about 30 minutes to get). If you're going to advertise a watermelon margarita as a "summer special" drink, then your customer will expect the drink to have some real watermelon in it. The drink was neon pink, tasted like a jolly rancher, and surely had no tequila in it. My husband's "lime basil" martini wasn't much better. Long story short, if you go there, order from the take out side, sit at the picnic tables off to the right while you enjoy the beautiful view...and stick with a beer for drinks!

Beautiful views, simple concept, and good food. How can you beat it? There's a back patio area that is full-service, but there is also a window at which you can order and then take your food to go, or to the covered picnic tables lining the shore or to the inside portion of Evelyn's...if the weather isn't so good. The chowder was nothing I've tasted before. Instead of being thick and creamy, it was a thinner broth that was almost transparent and much different from the traditional chowders I've previously had. It was very delicious. I ordered the lemon pepper fish and fries, and while it was quite tasty, I doubt that I'd order it again should I return. Next time I'm going for the clam cakes and a big cup of chowder.

This is my favorite clam shack on the water - ever! We ate in the inside dining room because it was a bit chilly, but the outside tables are right on the water and the view is really pretty. Between the 4 of us, we had the clam cakes, clam strips, RI chowder, fries, onion rings, blt, crab roll... it was a bounty of fried foods and all of it was amazing.

This place ROCKS! A great place to go on the motorcycle or by boat or any other way, just make sure you go. The food is always great, especially when you eat outside and take in the ever changing crowd of locals and tourists. The Crabby Patty is one of our favorites with the hint of horseradish to spice it up. Also a big hit is the Rhode Island Chowder done like your Moma would (if she was a local). Also check out the Stuffies and the Clam Cakes for true Rhode Island fare. Make your way here, its worth the effort.

Stopped here recently with a group. I agree it is probably a bit overrated, but the few times I have been here I have ordered fish and chips and found them to be fairly fresh with a nice batter. Fries while not award winning are solid, and sitting at the picnic tables with the view is a nice summer snack.

However,they offer more than just fried food, in a very nice ocean-front settting with beer and wine. I really can't argue with that. I'm not sure I get all the hoopla. The clams are OK, although slightly burnt, the clam cakes are also OK, but slightly doughy, and the prices are pretty high for Tiverton. If you really want clams, go to the Clam Box in Ipswich.

A seasonal staple in the fried seafood summer arsenal. Shrimp baskets to stuffies. There is outdoor seating, indoor seating, sit in your car or even bring your boat to their small dock. Take plenty of napkins, you will need them with the fried food wonders. If your in town it's a place you have to try. Careful, the seagulls are very bold here watch your food because they are. My favorites are the shrimp basket (small sized shrimp) and an order of clam cakes, very consistent.

I became an instant lover of lobster rolls when I tried one here. In fact, ever since then I haven't had any lobster rolls as good as Evelyn's. My youngest loved their chowder. I love their outdoor setting next to the water. I always recommend this place to friends traveling to Rhode Island, and they always come back with great reviews!

Beer and chowder by the bay waht more can one ask of a summer's say? The outside patio is crushed shell and has umbrellas to keep the pink from turning red! I loved every second of the time I was there. This is worth the drive from Providence. Not the greatest chowder I have ever had but it was good and I was feet from the bay! Well worth it! Driving back home from Connecticut, we decided to stop at a clam shack in RI to grab lunch. I did some "on the fly" research on the iPhone in the car and this came up with a slew of other options. I decided on this place because it was one of the most convenient for our travels and it was not in Newport. Glad we did because it was exactly what we were looking for. No frills for sure but the outside seating, with views of the inlet, is very pretty. I can only assume this place is a madhouse in the height of summer. Our waitress was friendly and efficient. We started with clam cakes and a cup of fish chowder for my husband. The clam cakes were good. Basically fried dough with some clam meat. The chowder was a hit with my husband. Our 5 year old liked it too! My husband had the lobster roll (comes in small or large) which was all lobster meat -- no mayo, no fillings. they will serve butter and/or mayo on the side. I had the small fried clam plate, which was a perfect size. The housemade cole slaw was tasty and not drenched in dressing. The clams were wonderful -- greasy and fried perfectly. They were mildly sweet but still not as good as Ipswich clams. The only disappointment was the kid's meal -- we got negative reviews for the mozzarella sticks from our 5 year old. Oh well... who eats those at a clam shack anyway? Easy to find location, but parking spaces are a commodity. We ended up parking on the opposite side of the road, which is challenging because you are crossing a main road with no street lights. So look both ways, run, then go grab a seat for some yummy fried clams.

My boyfriend and I saw this place on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives and we just had to go there when we visited our friend in Rhode Island . The view was nice as we sat and ate our food on the patio over looking the water . Food was very good and was worth the drive .Their chicken pot pie is the best ! An artery clogging heart attack that tastes soooo good. I was a bit excessive when I visited but it was worth the excessive workouts that I have to partake in now. I had the My Super Greek Salad that had crabmeat on it. I would have preferred the crabmeat to be jumbo lump but it was tasty none the less. From there I went on to the combo plate which was fried scallops and fried whole clams. Sooooo good. I was pleasently surprised to see that the scallops weren't coated in an overwhelming batter. It was delicious. Now, that lobster roll. Oh yes!!!!!! Big juicy chunks of lobster and a whole bunch of it. The visit here was made by that lobster roll. Just thinking about it makes me want to do a drive by before heading back to NYC for an on the rode snack! Next I tried the lobster bisque. Tasty but the sherry was a little over powering. Lastly, I told you I was excessive, I had the fried ice cream. One word...Orgasmic. Enjoy.

We stopped by on May 30, 2015. The food was OK! Nothing special ): The location is waterfront, but if you need to use their restroom..they will give you a round-around. I think they don't want you to use the restroom as their customer. No restroom sign. I asked the waitress where was the restroom, she told me it was outside. I walked outside and found myself near to kitchen and asked an employee where is the restroom...she told me it is inside the building! What???!! I found out later ...they have restroom inside the building, but the first waitress I asked gave me a wrong info...even though...I was in front of the bathroom door without a bathroom signage, she told me to keep walking. Thanks people....I will bring my business somewhere! I am not coming back!!!

Deplorable, quite frankly. The stuffies were Matlaw's stuffed clams that you get frozen at the supermarket. How do know? Because I have them in my freezer. Clam cakes and chowder were good. If I had known the fried seafood platter was $52 I never would have ordered it. That is just insane. It's exactly what you get for $20 anywhere else in the state. Not to mention the young girls working are absolutely rude. I saw a girl yell at a guy about something when it was her that misheard him. That couple left. That was before we were even seated. I wish I had followed them.

I love Evelyn's, love everything about it. I love the location, I love the servers, and I love the food. If you love seafood like I do, especially clams and lobster rolls, this is the place. My husband grew up very near Evelyn's and his parents still live not far in Little Compton, so whenever we are visiting we stop at Evelyn's. My favorite thing is the fried clams..the fried, whole belly clams. They are to die for; not too much breading, never greasy, just perfect clams with the right amount of breading. The lobster roll is equally good, full of big chunks of lobster. Nothing better than a big plate of clams, a Newport Storm, and sitting outside looking at Nanaquaket Pond.

I've been coming here every summer for the past few years and it's always been an enjoyable experience. Unfortunately this time it was not! I decided to take a friend here for dinner last night (9/7/14) and the only good thing I can say is that our waitress was good. First off the prices have doubled since my last visit! Seriously, $52 for a seafood platter at a drive-in, this is unheard of. Maybe being features on the food network has gone to their head. As for the flood it was so greasy you could see it dripping off the clams and scallops. The clam cakes had no clams in them mostly dough and the crab cake patties were beyond mushy. The icing on the cake came after we finished eating when all of a sudden a huge rat walked right by us. We were so sick after seeing this rodent we literally wanted to puke. I told our waitress and she wasn't even that surprised and she said oh we haven't seen any of those this year. He apparently told the mgr but he never came out to apologize. I will never go back here again not will I recommend this dump. I was totally embarrassed being my friend here.

We came here with some friends for dinner after spending the day at 3rd Beach. We sat outside and I must say, the view was AMAZING. Our waitress was very attentive and literally checked on us every 5 minutes. Our drinks were served in styrofoam cups...I'm not sure if that's what they normally do or not, but I thought that was a little odd. I had the Grilled Scallops with horseradish sauce. The scallops were fresh and cooked perfectly. My husband had the Lobster Roll, which was simple, but he enjoyed it. The prices are a bit high, but that's because you're paying for the view.

I found the setting wonderful and wait staff very friendly. We had a seat on the outdoor patio that was a little close to the door, lots of traffic. That's okay it was primetime. I ordered a clam starter, small ($24). Clams were small and broken to little bits. My lobster roll ($24) was the meat of one small lobster, two claws, one body and chucks, mayo on the side. Onion rings ($5) were about seven or eights nice large crispy rings. The clam plate was ($32) the same as the starter very small broken clams. Add a couple of fruity drinks and a tip and the bill was $150. Considering the quality of the clams and the cost I've come to the conclusion that "I've been there and done that" on to the next place. I should have paid more attention to the reviews posted by locals and returning customers.

This has been a mainstay restaurant for many many years. It used to be good. It could be one of the most expensive "drive ins". It got a major boost from Guy Fieri The seafood combination is now $52. That is for picnic tables.. The water view is probably the main draw. There are long lines and inadequate parking so you are forced to park along the road which is 2 way and not wide. The menu is 99% fried.The french fries are frozen processed. I asked if the fries were made on sight and she said"We are much too busy to do that". There are very few choices in Tiverton so I guess that is part of the reason they do well Lots of tourists.... A much better place is Blount"s in Fall River,Mass. It is a little drive but the fish and chips and the clam cakes are delicious and it's not an arm and a leg. it does not have any view so you have to decide if it's the food or the view.... I do not like any of the restaurants in Tiverton.......it sorely needs a well priced varied menu that would appeal to a mix of people.

I always try to be polite in these reviews and tend to stick with the "if you can't say something nice" thing so let's see what I can do here: View - wonderful and lovely. Hence the 2 stars. Also, the prices, let's see, how to word this, Hmmmmmmm, well...if you eat here you must be rich enough to not mind paying too much money for something not worth too much money. Seafood gets expensive, but they price accordingly and don't seem to jack prices up any more than they need to. I've come here as a birthday present every year for as long as I can remember. The three star average for this place is about right. I'll sum up my experience this way - the view is nice, service was fine, but paying $210 for four seafood plates, calamari, clam cakes, and four drinks is pretty pricey. It'd be one thing if the seafood was the best around as then I'd be ok with their prices, but the clam cakes were mostly dough and the fried claims in my combo plate were underwhelming. Will I be back? Nah, don't think so as Rhode Island has numerous "on the water" seafood joints that offer a better experience. I also agree with another reviewer that charging "market price" for fried fish (cod, scrod) is crazy.

Went here after seeing it on Triple D! I have lived in RI all my life and I normally don't venture to the East Bay. I ordered the fish and chips and my wife had the clam strips platter. I am going to say that it was probably the best fried fish I have ever had! Light, fresh, and hot it was amazing! My wife's clam strips were the freshest I've ever had! We sat out on the patio and the view was amazing. I found the servers to be fast, attentive and friendly. I only have two complaints: one, the prices were rather high for fried seafood. The two pounds of fried seafood was a whopping $52!!!! Two, the French fries were rather pedestrian. For a place that has such fresh and delicious fish, homemade fries would have put the meal out of sight!! I am definitely making a trip back before the summer is out!!

Lobster chow mein, something for everybody. As a clam belly veteran, decided to get adventurous with the menu and order the lobster chow mein. Mind you, this is a Fall River crunchy chow mein, with thick sauce (with celery) heaped upon golden ribbons of fried noodles. While the base model is about $6, the addition of lobster - essentially a whole peeled lobster, quartered - ups the price to $24, perhaps a travesty of a "market price" when lobster is as inexpensive as it is now. Oddly, the lobster wasn't even the best part. Instead, it was the sport of spooning/forking the forest of noodles down before they sogged. The Chinese don't know what they're missing.

We're west coasters with a summer house in Tiverton so this is where we get our nearest Lobster Roll fix. Short summary is that it's good but not great. Three places to sit; 1) indoors for night or rain, 2) outdoors with a great view and waitress service, 3) picnic tables with the same view for take out. Service has always been good. However, we tend to avoid this place on weekends or at prime lunch hour and get a better result when they're less packed. The parking lot can't accommodate their seating and people park on the street. The food varies. Fried belly clams are good but like all their items they tend to go heavy on the grease. The Clam Cakes are almost all dough - had a hard time finding any clam. Scallops were tasty but The Bayside had fresher, more tender ones. Good but not great Lobster roll.

I liked it. Fried whole clams were delicious but very pricey. $28 for a small, but it was a generous small. Lovely deck on the water. Service was good, kid friendly and great cocktails. I only eat fried clams once a year so the price tag was justifiable for me. I'll be back next year.

Fried Food never tasted so Good! This is my go to place in the summer to get a fisherman platter (fried fish, scallops, shrimp, clams, lobster) and Evelyn's is the Best. Fresh seafood is the key and they have the freshest! They have outside seating and you can choose to use the pick-up window and sit on picnic benches or sit at traditional tables with a waitstaff and a full bar. The view from either choice is the same beautiful water view.

Where to begin... I ordered fish and chips and the price was "market price". Are you serious?... For Cod? That should have tipped me off. I also only got a tiny bit of tarter sauce in my order. It was probably an ounce or so when in reality I'm looking for 3+. By the way, the market price was $10.99. Why this fluctuates is beyond me, but maybe Evelyn knows a bit about the economy of the fish market then I gave her credit for. My wife got the hushpuppies which were bland and dry. The chowder was not good either. The only redeeming item was the stuffed quahog. EVERYTHING WAS WAY OVERPRICED!

My wife and I went out for a Sunday drive and we saw Evelyns Drive In. It seemed like a nice local eatery and decided to support a local company. The best part of our meal was not the actual meal it was the amazing VIEW! We ordered a appetizer of clam cakes but we think they forgot the clams. All we could taste was the dough. The wife ordered the scallop roll, which was ok but for $25??? I dont think so! I ordered the whole belly clam plate which the clams were burnt and tasted sandy. It had about 9 clams french fries and a side of cole slaw. For $26???? $80 for lunch for 2 people are you serious??? My opinion OVERPRICED and would not repeat. Next time we will got to chelos in warwick (waterfront). Much better food and a great view as well. PS. And chelos does not use paper plates and cups!

Great location, great food - only "ok" value. That bout sums it up. We stopped in on a gorgeous summer night, sat outside, had a drink and just about everything we had was tasty. Had the broiled scallop dinner - the wife had the stuffed sole. All great. Also have tried the fried stuff - also good. Only problem is that everything feels 4-6 dollars more expensive than it should be. The people sitting next to us let it affect their enjoyment - just be forewarned, treat it as a treat and enjoy!

TOTAL RIPOFF. Went to Evelyn't for the first time this season, and the owners should be ashamed of themselves. They are known for lobster rolls with all tail meat. The draw back is that you have to cut the lobster and mix it with the mayo yourself, so it isn't cold like most lobster rolls.Last season the price was in the $17-$23 range. This year the hot dog roll with 3oz of lobster and Kraft mayo on the side was $18.99.They would not sub anything for the fries or coleslaw- an order of sweet potato fries was $5.99 and a side salad was 6.99. When my plate arrived it was SAD. A small hotdog roll, a silver dollar size coleslaw and 3 small pieces of lobster which were clearly from a one pound lobster- not all tail either-a small sad claw and lots of the fin-not edible. It was like a joke. Basically I paid $19 for 3 oz of lobster= at that rate it would be $101 a pound- double what you would pay in a fish market. There isn't a restaurant in the state that doesn't give you fries and coleslaw and very few would not sub a salad or something else. WHO DO THESE PEOPLE FROM MA THINK THEY ARE? They are riding high on TV reviews which are not holding up. Look at the unrecommended review- 4 pages of 1 and 2 star reviews from people who opened Yelp accounts just to write the review- that is never a good sign and one Yelp tries to hide from you!

The stuffed quahogs are horrible, the fried food (all of it) is greasy, greasy, greasy. Not sure if it's old oil/lard or what. The clamcakes are greasy and have just about no clams in them. For the price you pay, you would think you were getting quality food, but you are not. With the plethora of clam shacks in RI, there is no reason to go here.

Items you could get at most places for $12-$15 were $20-$25!!! The food was good but nothing special or worth going out of your way for. Great Location. Right on the water. Heard about it on "Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives" There is about 20 seats indoors and twice that outside right on the water. The price was $40 with tip for 2 adults and a toddler. No booze. We had clam chowder (clear broth, Rhode Island style is what the claim) and very tasty. Buffalo tenders (sorry, not germane to the restraunt but I cant live without them). Fried Clams and Crab cakes. All excellent, my wife and I had plenty to share with my small daughter. Cons Parking is pretty bad. You are off a main road so if coming from the north it can be tricky to get in on the weekends since there is can be a line getting into the parking lot. I would park across the street or near the takeout window. Dont go into the 15 car area (unless you have a small compact), i.e. the first parking opportunity on your right if coming from the north.

Guy Fieri and Phantom Gourmet be damned. Evelyn's, while a nice high-end clam shack, is not the hot dining Aphrodite on a pedestal that these foodie dudes on the take make it out to be. Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed my lunch. The service was super-friendly (if not overly attentive after the food was dropped). The view was spectacular. Yadda yadda yadda. It was a-ok, as the 3.4 star rating would suggest. It was not blow your socks off amazing, not a "here, take my car keys and go now, you fool!" type of place. The food: contrary to whoever the Yelper was that knocked the fries, they were the 2nd best part of my meal. Crabcakes were tasty but lacked subtlety with an overly fishy and onion-y aftertaste, compounded by an overpowering horseradish mayo. Two suggestions, guys: tone down the onions and present with a more neutral savory condiment. The cole slaw, however, was magnificent stuff; I usually hate cole slaw and use it to throw at annoying elderly fellow diners (of which there were an obscene abundance this Tuesday lunch, carping at the servers, slurping their chowder loudly; it was like the bar scene with the reptiles in "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas"). However, this slaw was perfection, lightly dressed, vinegary, crunchy, with a distinct cabbage and carrot flavor. Loved it! What threw me was how expensive it was: $24 for a kids meal, a crabcake platter with two crabcakes and a small handful of fries and slaw, and two lemonades (how cheap are we these days that some places still don't give free refills?). The expense is patently bullshit, as what you're paying for is good diner food (yeah, I get it: whole bellied clams are expensive. I worked in seafood restaurants for years; don't screw with me) with a hotsie-totsie view. Fried seafood at Evelyn's is even more expensive than Legal's, for Pete's sake! (And they RAPE you over at Legal's on EVERYTHING!) So Evelyn's then works best as a sometime repast when someone (a rich grandma, perhaps) is treating you to lunch or dinner. Again, there's not anything technically WRONG with the place except for the expense, but I think it'll be a while before I come back. Next time, though, it'll be a clam-fest.

I have been to many roadside seafood shacks being from New England. After seeing the famous Guy Fieri rave about Evelyn's I gave it another shot. They don't disappoint your wallet! I felt like I was financially raped! The fried seafood platter was good with a lot of food but for $40 too much. What really made me wish for K-Y was the tuna sandwich for my daughter @6 I expected a large tuna roll with fries. I got a small hotdog bun barely with 2 teaspoons of tuna and no fries! Don't waste the trip there are way better places, don't be fooled by the media hype:)

I love the DRIVE down to Evelyn's and this place itself is just as breathtaking looking out towards the water and some sailboats. You'll recognize Evelyn's when you see a Coca-Cola sign. I looked outside at the Take-out window but didn't notice anyone lining up or the window open so I followed others inside the doors where it looks to be a Diner setup. Walk out towards the other end where the doorway leads you to the PATIO area or go on the other side where there is covered area with picnic tables. It was awhile before I got a menu as there is non-stop patrons coming in. When I found the menu I went for the obvious choice of Rhode Island Clam Chowder & Clam Cakes($6.59) and it came in less than a minute. Clam Chowder had a LIGHT clear base with a few spoonful of Milk. The fillings were a good portion of Potatoes and Quahog Clam Bits. I can see that because of this clear broth, you're more able to taste the Clams in the broth as well as the Clams themselves which are the highlight of this dish. Clam Cakes were doughy with roughly 2-3 whole Littleneck or Cherrystone Clams PER cake. It is doughy but had a bit of interesting CHEW as well which were well complemented when dipping into the Chowder which is the one and only way to eat this meal. You cannot eat this meal as 2 separate items but have to see it as a WHOLE. When the Clam Cake is dipped it becomes more chewy and less doughy which makes it GREAT! I also had the Dessert that the table in front of me had, cold Grape Nut Pudding($3.99) which seemed to be similar to an Egg Custard with a thin Cake topping then Cinnamon and Nutmeg on top. The ONLY issue I had was the when I walked off the table so that the next guest group awaiting could settle in, I walked inside towards the Cashier but still had to wait for my server to cash me out. She returned $3.00 when I paid for a $13.45 meal with a $20.00 bill. She was then re-called by another staff to look into this matter and she provided $7.00 as change. Maybe I'm just foreign to this payment concept, I'll study up next time.

This place is a hidden gem! Newport may get all the glory but Tiverton has just as good of views, less crowds and more peace. After seeing this place on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives I knew I had to check it out. I pretty much love all the local clam shacks RI has to offer but this one is definitely one of my new faves. Friendly staff, YUMMY food, big menu, cheap cocktails and an unbeatable sunset view on the harbor. Go here!

Have a Fat Wallet. The food was good. The prices we're out of control, $22.00 for a small order of, whole belly fried clams! The portins we're very large, but still too high priced. We had to ask our waitress for; cutlery, napkins, beverage refill 2x, to-boxes 2x, more water!! The view was nice, not super, guess that is what your really paying for.

I was going to knock off a couple of reviews today and Evelyn's was going to be one, but I read Jef S.'s review a couple below mine and he pretty much (and more descriptively and eloquently) said what I was intended to say. The ONLY difference between what Jef S rated and wrote and my opinion is I would give them two stars, Jef gave them three. I whole-heartily agree with him, the fries and the slaw were the best part of the meal. The expense of the meal ensure's that visiting Evelyn's was a one-and-done for me. The service was friendly and attentive, and if you must go, I recommend sitting at the bar since the restaurant is super small and I felt for the folks shoe-horned into the tables. The bar had a bit more clearance from other patrons and servers walking by. $118 dollars for three people to brag about fries and cole slaw just doesn't get it for me. I wanted knock-your-socks-off seafood, and although the seafood selections we ordered were edible, they were nothing noteworthy, especially for the cost. Honestly, I've had better crab cakes and fried seafood in Columbus Ohio at street festivals - hence my 2 stars, "Meh. I've experienced better".

I have been coming here for years and the last time was disappointing to say the least. The fried clams were so bad I left more than I ate. It was as if they fried them twice. They even forgot my sons chowder. Not running back here anytime soon.

Chronicle-- wake up!!! These were the worst fried clams ( full of sand--nothing worse than grit on your teeth...I can still feel it) that I have ever had in my life!!!! and absolutely the most expensive....market price...turned out to be about $4.00 for each clam...what market are you playing in???? do you think that we all just got off the boat?

Overpriced, Cleanliness issues, and lazy food preparation. The market price for cod, scallops and especially lobster is way below what was charged on the two days we went. French fries are frozen prepackaged.. not hand cut, which is ridiculously lazy at the prices charged. One Porta-potty with no hand washing... this for the entire staff and customer population. Absolutely Disgusting. Clearly the sanitation inspector for Tiverton is on the take. Grease covered condiment bottles and menus Seafood was ok, but definitely not appropriate for the prices charged. Overall, a very underwhelming experience. I could do better (for a lot cheaper) at home.

My female friend and I went into the dining room only to wait awhile, somewhat awkwardly to be seated. After about five minutes of being ignored, by a well staffed yet empty dining room, we thought the best way of getting something to eat was through the take out window. We got the food rather quickly there..(why did I give a tip for fastfood non served, take out?). The clam chowder was well ok nothing special and so were the clam cakes.. In summary? Great location and reputation busy during the tourist season but not above average.
