My friend and I ate here for dinner; the food was good, not great. The pasta - tho al dente, was still a bit too chewy for my liking. The chicken marsala was good and the bruschetta appetizer that day was awesome! I'd recommend for sure.

Constantinos just happens to be in the right place. As realtors say, location is everything. Situated comfortably at the top of Federal Hill in that nice open italian-feeling plaza, it's certainly popular. Which would lead one to think "all these people go here, it must be good! And it's pricey, so it really must be good!" Ehhh... not so much. People go there for the great Italian family feel and it's a great place to see and be seen. But as far as food goes, I'm highly unimpressed. I went for lunch one day during the work week as a treat with some co-workers. It took us a while to get a seat but the waiters got us water quickly after we sat down. They were pretty slow in coming back to take our order, however. I ordered a simple grilled scallop salad. Once again, it took a while for the waiter to bring our food to the table. I'm a pretty patient person, I don't mind waiting for a good meal. But the salad was pretty bland and tasteless. And then, after a few bites, I uncover a stick. Not just any stick. It was a pretty decent size (~5x1") stick. Not wanting to cause a scene, I quietly told my waitress who took it back to the kitchen to "find out what it was." She returned soon with a "new" salad, informing me that it was, in fact, a piece of chicken. Not only was I lied to about the "chicken" and the "new" salad, I didn't even get an apology OR a discount. Definitely not recommended.

Excellent! Finally, Fresh Pasta! I've eaten here several times and it's always been great. Of course i can't help myself to order a dish that is made with their fresh pasta. The sangria is really good too. Really nice to sit outside by the mini piazza in warm weather. It brought me back to Italy. And of course, I can't go there without doing a little shopping in their store/deli (Venda Ravioli) for some great italian specialties...YUM YUM YUM!

Everyone knows they can make some ravioli. That's what we went there for. The basic ravioli/sauce my daughter had was good and properly prepared and finished. I had the "surprise" ravioli. Despite a somewhat confusing menu description, it was quite good. One was a multi-cheese, two were pumpkin, and the fourth was a cheese and pungent herb that was familiar, but I brain farted as to what it was. Sadly, the quality of the service was inexcusable. There were exactly 4 tables in the cafe at the time and at least a dozen waitstaff. Most were socializing around the corner within earshot of us. Others were voraciously texting around another corner as we left. A total lack of attention left us either waiting for EVERYTHING including the check (another 10 minutes to get change) or just things left ignored, like water refills and no refill on the italian butter. With many years working with professional waitstaff in RI, I would say this is likely the worst service in RI. I'd make the staff an offer they can't refuse. I'll probably go to Andino's or Cassarino's tonight.

My husband and I went last night (Sunday) and the place was busy and quite lively. There was entertainment in DePasquale square which was nice. Some people were dancing which added to the atmosphere. There are huge doors that open up to the square as well as tables on the square proper. Inside was the normal sampling of Federal Hill visitors. Johnny Gumbas and senior citizens alike. However, I don't think I have received service this poor in a long time. We sat at the bar for a good 10 minutes before anyone addressed us. It was so ridiculous we started to laugh about it. We kept trying to get the bartenders' attention (there were two) but they basically avoided our stares because they were that clueless and disorganized. While we were being ignored we started to notice all these empty glasses on bar because, once again, their bartenders had no clue what they were doing. All we could think of is all the money this place COULD be making if they had some decent bartenders who could be more organized. I finally had to yell to be noticed, only to be met with some 'tude from the bartender. We did get some pizza and the crust was very, very good, very Napolese, but there was no love in the topping. Portions were off making the middle of one very soggy, the other was topped with a quartered tomato. I've been to Naples. I know their rustic style. This was not rustic but rushed. Great location, great place for people watching, but don't expect much in terms of food and service.

From start to finish, this was a great dinner. Greeted by the owner, we were then whisked up a flight of stairs to an elegant dining room. There is outside seating but as the night was a bit chilly, I wanted to eat indoors. The menu choices are similar to other restaurants on the Hill but the food tastes fresher and are prepared with a bit more imagination here. I had the special of the night, stuffed sole and it was filled with fresh (emphasis on the fresh!) seafood and enough for 2 meals. The waitstaff are very attentive as you dine in a European atmosphere with Italian music playing softly in the background. The owner visited our table during our meal to be sure everything was to our liking making Costantino's the epitome of Italian hospitality in my book. My son had dessert, a homemade pastry dish filled with fresh fruit and gelato that he happily devoured. They also offer an assortment of special coffee/alcohol dessert drinks which are great before heading out into a chilly night. I can't wait to go back.

At one time, Costantino's made the summer a time to which one could not only enjoy the food, but also the elegant flair of al fresco dining on DePasquale Plaza. Things seem to have changed starting last summer since the beautiful crooner music is so limited and some of the current music does not complement the ambiance of this lovely restaurant. Those of us who actually dine there know what makes it a perfect evening and currently all of the components to summer dining there do not add up to a perfect evening with the existing entertainment. Quality music embellishes the quality food that Costantino's has been known for over the years. Perhaps some rethinking is needed prior to next summer.

After working up an appetite driving on I 95 for hours, we decided to stop off in Providence for some lunch. And am I glad we did. Service was fast, polite and professional. The pasta dishes were as good as anything I have ever had in New York. Aglio E Olio made with anchovies and olives was a welcome surprise. Pasta with a red sauce and sausage I am bookmarking this place because I fully plan on coming here again.

For a Federal Hill experience this is probably the place to be. Live music, dancing...this is the place if you are just walking around its that very loud joint just down the street. "The place to be" I'm sure. The food though, pretty basic. Not from a can, not at all. But I didn't leave thinking to myself "that was some killer aps (and entrees)". Nice to sit outside, nice to see the scene....but this is scenery...not a gourmet destination.

The wait staff seemed like they'd rather be at the dentist. They ignored you and were rude if you asked for something. The scallops and asparagus were burnt. No, I would definitely not recommend this place.

Constantino's has good food, but truly, it's all about the ambiance! We had a delightful dinner on the patio on a warm summer's night and tremendously good live music. We ordered the Caprese salad (delish), Cavatelli Ai Rapini E Salsicce (if you like garlic, then this is the dish for you!), the rigatoni, the gnocchi, and the carmelized onion and fig pizza. Of all the dishes, the pizza was the only real disappointment as the onions were not at all carmelized and was quite bland. I recommend sticking to Constantino's strengths - the pasta! We ordered the rigatoni for my toddler and I think we all regretted not ordering more for the table because it was so tasty. I would be remiss if I didn't mention our most-excellent service. Constantino's was very busy on a weekday night, but our service was extremely fast and friendly. Our waiter was so charming and was great about getting my toddler's food out first to keep her and everyone else happy. I imagine this will be our go-to place to bring out of town guests for a festive dinner on Federal Hill.

During the warm months, they have tables outside on the square, that makes this restaurant a good choice for dining... That's were the charm stops. We have been a few times this summer and the wait staff is rude and arrogant. Not polite, not well trained. When the waiter brought the food, he did not remember who had what, so he ended up placing the wrong entree in front of some of us. When told about the mistake, he made a snotty remark...again...showing the usual arrogance of these waiters. Tonight, the veal parm was dry and bland.. The mussels and linguini were overly salty. The drinks were inconsistent..sometimes good, sometimes not good at all. Even though .....it is on theory, nice to have live music during summer days, the music is so loud, people can not hear each other.... another example where the restaurant management has no clue about how to run a good business. Also, they just started to REFUSE to split checks...they will give one check for the whole table and if you give them 2-3 credit cards, they will split the amount evenly.. what a lack of customer service and customer focus.

I am going to give this place 5 stars for a few reasons. The service was some of the I have ever had, granted it was a slow Monday night but we had four people taking care of us. From water refills to removing empty dishes and bringing drinks they have it together. The atmosphere is another reason. We started with eggplant rolintini which was very good. Then we both ordered the chicken parm also very good. My only slight gripe is that the chicken was slightly over cooked. But the sauce was very light and fresh. The severs bring hand grated parmigiano and black pepper with every course. The prices are reasonable for the area and atmosphere. I would recommend trying it.

First off I'd like to start off by saying my review is honest and fair. If you read most of the 1 star reviews on here people are complaining about not having a host stand, or the bartender watched jersey shore to much. I mean obviously people are over critical and are judgmental, but that's not me. The food here is outstanding. The pasta's are homemade, everything is fresh and the portions are very generous. Everything I have ordered from salad's to drinks are also exceptional. In the summer I would recommend sitting in the outside dining area. I have been several times and from time to time the service isn't the best, but its fairly busy and I can deal with it as long as I get taken care of. Overall I rate this place on food because I don't come here for the best service or the best table cloth, if I worried about all of that I would stay home. Mangia!

I took my mom to Constantino's while she was visiting from out of town. We got there at 5:30 and had no trouble getting seated outside. The service was friendly and relatively quick. They had a few cheeseless pizza options which was great & our waiter knew what was VEGAN on the menu. The outdoor area was lovely and at around 6:30 there was live music. I highly recommend the white sangria!

STAY AWAY! The worst customer service! With so many excellent Italian restaurants with outstanding food and service in RI, don't waste your time with this horrible place, especially if you are trying to impress out of town guests!

The maitre ' d seated us promptly on New Year's Eve , even though my open table reservation was canceled. The bloody Mary is pretty spicy, so beware. Shrimp cocktail app was fresh and tasty. Service was good. Our waiter was courteous and prompt. The lobster fra-diavolo was excellent. My wife really liked the ravioli. I recommend this place.

I love to eat and this is was one of the best meals I've ever eaten. We had Burrata and it was creamy and delicious mopped up with warm fresh bread. I had mushroom anglinotti with truffle cream sauce and it was to die for. My wine was a good sized pour. Our waiter was awesome. He was attentive but not too pushy. The service was impeccable. It was a bit pricey but well worth it as you do get what you pay for.

Came in for dinner and ordered the chicken piccata- it was extremely bland, even after adding salt there was still significant room for improvement. I mentioned this to the waiter and wasn't offered any sort of remedy except for an apology. I would only return for the drinks (Signature Martini) and perhaps that is not even strong enough to lure me back in.

My husband and I were enjoying a leisurely Saturday afternoon on federal hill. we stopped into the bar at Venda, there was only one oth er couple on the other side of the bar and 2 bar tenders behind the bar. This should be a no brainer for any seasoned professional. I'm sure there w e re gearing up for huge evening with it being a wat er fire night, however it was approx 4pm there were no customers and I counter 8 servers hanging around. my husband ordered a Sam summer ale, it w as a served in a Peroni glass which is approx 3-5 Oz less than a standard bar glass. As for myself I had the wine menu in front of me and the bartender left after delivering my husband's beer. I waited, and waited and probably 5 minutes later, again no oth er guests a t the bar, but the bartender sure had plenty of time to horse around with the servers, putting them in headlock and generally horsing around. So, so So unprofessional! I finally w as a able to get the attention of the younger bartender who seemed to be doing all of he work. ordered a glass of chardonnay. I was so steamed by the lack of professionals working at one of the best restaurants on federal hill, that I couldn't drink my glass and leave fast enough! I have worked in so many high class restaurants like this one and know quality customer s e rvice when I see it, it's the immature waitstaff and disrespectful bartenders, that will be the downfall of this jewel in the city!

I have been going to this restaurant for as long as i can remember and it is perfect on summer nights! You cannot beat the atmosphere anywhere else on the hill, first its outdoor seating next to a fountain would be great on its own but they also usually have live music adding to the festive feel. As for the food...its even better almost all of the pasta is made fresh daily, and I have never had a meal I did not like or think was made with good quality. I usually get the Vongole. I have brought several out of state residents here for dinner and they ALL SCRAPED THE SAUCE OFF THEIR PLATES, that's how much they liked it!

Calamari appetizer and fresh mozzarella appetizers that were on special the day we went were delicious. Nice ambience. I must say, though, the chicken Parmesan was awful. It almost tasted like they added lemon. It did not taste like what chicken Parmesan is supposed to taste like. My boyfriend and I order chicken parm at every Italian place we go to because we are on a hunt for the best we can find, and this chicken parm gets 1 star. The restaurant overall was okay, but the chicken parm left me with a sour impression. If you go, try the spicy calamari appetizer though it was very tasty! And the outdoor patio allows you to view live music performances on Friday and Saturday nights!

Just ordered for pick up here the other night. I ordered a Caesar salad and a margarita pizza. These two items are what I consider SAFE at any Italian restaurant. Unfortunately, the Caesar salad was TINY and SO over-dressed that by the time I arrived home to eat it, it was almost inedible and soggy (mind you, I live right around the corner). The pizza was also soggy while the mozzarella had hardened to an almost plastic-like substance. I feel like we got some order that someone else had rejected. It's sad to say that I would have preferred Domino's. Looks like this place is DINE IN ONLY.

This 2 story restaurant was pretty packed on a freezing, Saturday night! I liked the bread and olive oil they start you off on. We split the pappardelle alla bolognese (wide ribbon pasta with meat), and the agnolotti ai porcini e tartufo (porcini in truffle butter with mushrooms)-both were good! I liked the latter the best, though! I also had a white sangria which was more pink than white, and too sweet for me, actually! Overall, the food was good and the service was quick!

Saturday night, busy as all get out. Tough to find a street parking space because I didn't really want to valet and be stuck at one restaurant. But I did and I wandered up to Depasquale Square. The first hostess stand I found that didn't have a long queue was here at Costantino's and of course I did not have a reservation. No worries, said the hostess. And she found me a front row table by the singers and the dancing area. Amazing. I think back now that I maybe should have tipped the gal. Oh well. Service was good though the speed was only mediocre. Every table was filled so the waiter took a while to get to me to take my order, to bring my beer, to bring the bread, to clear the table. When he did visit with me, the interaction was pleasant. His listing of the specials was great and after he told me about the first appetizer, I changed my mind and went with that. (Something with mozzarella and cream with tomatoes and prosciutto.). With all of that cheese and fat already going into my belly, I chose the pasta alla vodka for my main. A delicious and light tomato sauce on top of penne pasta. A massive bowl of the stuff, I could barely finish half of it. And since I was flying out the next morning, I declined the offer to box it up. And I also (sadly) said no to dessert. The pasta was super fresh. I'm sure they make it onsite. In the warmer weather, sit outside. And bring some patience. It's worth it.

I wanted to love this place. I wanted it to be my new summer spot for outdoor seating, chic drinks, people watching and of course, delectable dishes. And it was, for a few fleeting hours. Our handsome server provided decent service. The homemade pasta was to-die-for delicious. The best Penne Alla Vodka I've ever had. My friend & I each adored our deserts. A few hours later my dining companion and I got sick. Horribly horribly sick. At first, we blamed our overindulging on vino. But alas, this was no brown bottle flu. This was real deal food-borne illness. One shared Caesar salad left the two of us in pretty nasty shape for two solid days. I understand that there's always a risk when you eat authentic Caesar due to the raw egg, but kitchens using proper safe food handling techniques typically mitigate any risk. I love authentic Caesar, enjoy it frequently and have never gotten sick from it before so I have to believe something went very very wrong in the kitchen that night.

I am at the point in my life where reasonably hot waiters don't make up for mediocre food. And don't get me wrong: if you like staring at dudes in suspenders and rolled up half-open button downs, this is your joint. But the food is a universal 'meh' in comparison. I ordered the chicken saltimbocca. There was so much sage on it that I felt like I was eating something from Yankee Candle. A fresh sage leaf per beaten thin chicken cutlet is probably much. The portion size was correct, but the quality was off compared to the price. The drinks are strong, which is nice, but actually almost too strong for me to really enjoy. Also, $9 for a tanq&tonic in this town is hilarious. You're better off waiting for Costantino's to be open. Food is better, more authentic, and a smidge cheaper.

Decent food...sub par service at the bar. Sat at the bar for dinner. Bar was full but there were 3 bartenders. Got the sense that many of the people at the bar just got off work here and stayed for drinks and got the "better" service from the bartenders. Might come back again if there are no other options.

Ate here a few weeks ago and had a pleasant experience. Went with four friends from class. We went early around 4:30pm and had to wait a little for our whole party to arrive. We were seated shortly after arriving and the restaurant was empty at the time. Two friends arrived before me and said they were greater and sat, then given bread and water. Once I arrived the waiter promptly asked me what I would like to drink and I ordered a Kir Royal made with Prosecco instead of Champagne (they only offered Prosecco by the glass) and the server knew exactly what I wanted which is a first. The final member of our party arrived around 5:15pm. We promptly ordered appetizers and out main courses. The food was well explained and the Mozzarella di Buffalo was incredible. Worth getting every time. We also got an assorted meats plate which was fantastic as well. Our entrees arrived promptly as we were finished with out appetizers and they were cooked to perfect temp. I personally got the Scallops e. Fagioil which is technically an appetizer but I did not want a huge meal and it was perfect. Everyone else in the group ordered pasta, mainly ravioli which they all said was delightful. We did not order any desserts so I cannot speak for them but I am sure they are delightful. All in all it was a wonderful experience and I would return. Having so many Italian restaurants on Atwells Ave on Federal Hill this is by far one of the better ones. The only issue we had was with the hostess once she showed up which was sometime during our meal. We asked her a question as leaving about our OpenTable reservation and she would not give an answer and then ignored us which I though was inappropriate. Definitely give them a try if you are in the area their food is the best Italian in Federal Hill.

Absolutely the best dinner experience of this year, and I eat out a lot in many cities in many states! I ordered the menu item Swordfish Puttanesca, which included a thick and meaty moist cut of the swordfish steak, with an assortment of vegetables and potatoes covered in the famous flavored sauce. My mates devoured the lobster special with equal relish , and we split the abdolutely wonderful house salads ( sweetish light dressing and pecorino shavings). The Tiramisu was the best we have had on the Hill, a generous portion and slathered with cream. Our server was attentive to a fault and stunning in his suspendered, open at the throat, sleeves rolled white shirt, a costume without stuffiness. We were fortunate to be able to sit out in the Square, to hear the vocalists and enjoy the music and dancing on this warm summer night. Made this troubled world go away for awhile as we observed the smiles and saw everyone being happy together.

Swanky place for after-work drinks; the whole bar opens up to the street, as well as to the piazza with the fountain. Street parking can be a nightmare, but is generally meter-free (a big plus), however valet is usually an option. Venda's reputation is what drew our work crew here to celebrate Friday's completion, however I'm not sure it's my scene... Cocktails are average "urban" price (which means: pretty pricey and between 10-15$ a pop!). My "Green-tini" (Grey Goose, St. Germain Liqueur, green tea, lemon juice & agave nectar) was $13 and tasted a bit like a trip to the dentist. It's pretty posh and would surely be a great place for an impressive "casual" date for the warm months, however I doubt that I will return. Something in the combination of pumping music, buzzing servers, and just the general vibe rubbed me the wrong way.

I am going to tell you, this place just isn't very good. We went to the Venda Bar and they have all of the pieces in place but the pizza just wasn't done correctly. Too much sauce, watery, not cooked enough. Here is the real issue, the wait staff. Not that the staff is bad, but it's not spot on and full of meat heads. The outfits that the guys wear are a joke. They have elastic arm bands around their biceps. It just looks awful. Lastly, I had 2 drinks and they weren't very good. The place is comfortable and looks nice, but it just misses the mark. Thanks

A very nice spot in the heart of Providence, RI. On a beautiful summer evening, live music was a treat. I tried this place twice within a month and its got plenty to offer, Due to live music, it can be a bit loud but it didn't bother me. Servers are good and the food is ok. We ordered chicken Marsala and steak, steak was decent (reason for a 4 star review) but the chicken marsala was really good. They have a pretty good selection of desserts and I liked the coffee as well. Overall, its a good place and I will be back.

Awesome! Had the linguini and clams, white, with Peroni on tap. Hand made linguini, clams delicately done in the shell, garlic strong, but not overpowering. Go on a summer evening when you can eat on Depasquale Square and hear the live jazz band with Kimberly McHale. Life is good!!

My family had dinner at Costantino's in May and needless to say WE WILL NEVER RETURN. We had a very large party (23 people) and were celebrating my son's graduation from college. I had called ahead to confirm that the restaurant was able to accommodate a large party and that they had adequate service. I was repeatedly assured that they served large parties all the time and 23 people would not be a problem. When we arrived, we were seated upstairs in their back room which was perfectly fine. We had plenty of room. We were assigned ONE waiter. He came over promptly once we were seated and stated that someone had requested separate checks so could we please identify who was with what party and asked that we not switch seats so as to keep the orders straight. This was a reasonable request and we were happy to comply, figuring he had his own numbering system to keep track of orders. There were 4 separate parties in all and it did not appear to be a problem to ask for separate checks. Our drink orders were placed.....a full hour later and many attempts to catch our server's eye....our drinks were served. OK-busy night, large party, enjoying the company---we were ok with the wait. We placed our food orders immediately after receiving our drinks. Again-only ONE waiter for a party of 23-no bus-person, helper, etc. Took us 45 minutes to receive our food....By now it is very late, we are tired, hungry and thirsty. The food was good, not excellent, but good considering the late time and large party. As it took forever to get the drinks and dinner, we all opted out of dessert and coffee and requested our checks. Here is where the real issue begins. We waited another 1/2 hour to get the checks and when they arrived, all of the checks were completely incorrect. Orders were mixed up; drinks were on the wrong check, food no one ordered was on a couple of checks, etc. We called the waiter over (another 15 minutes). He took back the bills to "straighten" them out. When he returned, they still were incorrect. Someone from each of the 4 parties stated that they would get the menu and list what should be on each bill and requested help from the manager to straighten out the bills. The manager never came to us, the waiter refused our help in figuring out the bills and gave us another set of checks which were again incorrect. At this point, we threw up our hands and paid the bills we got. Now we knew that some items were missing but as the manager didn't seem to care, we paid what we were told. When we went downstairs to leave the owner, Mike, came running after us stating that there were more checks and accused us of trying to leave without paying our tab. We tried to explain what had occurred and he would not listen, continually accusing us of causing a disturbance, etc. He threw the checks on the floor and at that point we turned around and left. Never once had he come up to try to straighten out the bills when we asked the waiter for the manager. The next day I received a very irate, insulting phone call from Mike Costantino (my phone # was on the reservation) berating me for leaving without paying, calling me very unprofessional names and telling me never to return to his restaurant----trust me-I never will. I am in complete and total shock that a business owner would treat a customer so rudely. So much was wrong with the service, the food, the professionalism of the staff, and the management that this establishment should be shut down. We were not a group of drunken kids. We were adults who were trying to enjoy a meal to celebrate a family event.

I don't really see why all the haters. Sure, it's not Italy--it's Federal Hill. But service is very attentive, the food comes quickly, and the vibe is really chill. I went with my mom when she was in town the other weekend. The chicken was extremely well cooked, the basil was fresh, the taste was well seasoned. The side asparagus was tasty and crispy. We also got a tomato, basil, and mozzarella pizza. Not the best pizza in Providence, so perhaps sticking to the entrees here is the key. Not amazing, but I would totally go back for a nice, chills evening and dinner. Especially when Federal Hill is always packed and so hard to find seats. I'll take whatever seats I can get.

Went here with a friend, not sure we'll be going back. While outside seating, our waiter, and the food was great, the service was slow and my friend and I both didn't feel so good the next two days (we ate the same thing). Might try it again someday, but not for a while.

This was our first time to Federal Hill and we weren't really sure where to go. We went on a Friday during the day for lunch and sat outside. It was pleasant, the food was delicious and the servers were attentive, but not hovering over you. I'd definitely go back here next time we're in the Providence area.

I'm surprised to see that the ratings are so low for this restaurant. I certainly would not agree with one or two star ratings. Could the food be better? Yes. The service improved? Yes. I ordered the scallops. The sauce was too acidic for me but the portion size was reasonable and the scallops well prepared. Not the most memorable meal but nothing for have distain for.

Frankie is the best and so is the bar manager, Michael. Uniforms are great, fun and casual place. Perfect for an after dinner or after work cocktail. Everyone is always happy and festive. Modern atmosphere and just always a great time. Green-Tini is my fave!

We went last night for the first time. Great atmosphere, doors open to the DiPasqualle Square, they had entertainment which added to the ambiance..perfect night! Generous pours on the wine .. a plus! The bar menue was mostly pizza (that looked good but not in the mood for it) we were able to order off of the Constatinos menu!

So that place on the corner of DePasquale Square that was filled with 'stuff' across from Venda Ravioli and next to Costantino's? Yeah- that is this place now. One square, one family, three businesses. Only on the Hill could such utter market saturation be so successful! We stopped in for drinks on a Tuesday evening (July - gorgeous weather) around 7pm. The place was abuzz - we had to ask a couple sitting at a hightop of 2 small tables pushed together if we could steal the unused portion as there was not even a seat at the bar open. The floral lined square seating looked onto the local crooner and the fountain, the actual building was almost completely open air making the bar space seamlessly spill over to al fresco. The walls were all doors and windows open, so in bad weather easy to close. Our order was drinks only, no food (so no experience to review on: pomegranate martini and Peroni - only. What I saw of food looked very Venda-esque. Bar does have its own kitchen, with an actual window by the bar so you can see what is being prepared. Service left something to be desired; they just seem to hire more for looks than service-experience, so... An interesting new spot on the Hill. Not bad at all, but neither is it unique.

Open-air bar with open doors allowing you to hear the live musicians singing Sinatra and the like in DePasquale Square. We had the caprese salad which was great, mussels - which were OK (we had come from Loie Fuller where there was an hour wait so they were a little disappointing b/c LF's mussels are AWESOME) and the pizza which was made in their wood burning oven which was thin and pretty darn tasty. My cocktail was not the best - it tasted like grape soda :( Our bartender was attentive and took good care of us.

What a shame, I loved this place, but now I'm going to take my business and money elsewhere. My wife and I were rushed through dinner and bearly had a change to have coffee and dessert, because there is a 2 hour limit on the table. Mind you if we were just sitting there I could understand, but we were drinking and eating. So we left with 15 minutes to spare. We sat by the fountain to hear the music and see if our table was used and it wasnt. So they lost out on maybe 4 or 5 more drinks orders and a better tip. There are so many other restaurants in RI that appreciate their customers more, I think we'll skip this place for a long while.

I don't normally go out on the hill. Not a fan of crowded place and overpriced food and drinks. It has a good atmosphere more lounge. I found a wine I really liked and our waiter was great. But the best best best part- AMAZING calamari. DELICIOUS. Worth it just for that

Visiting for a college visit. We were late for res due to traffic and parking, but promptly seated. Drink orders and drinks came promptly. Large bottled wine selection. I had a glass and the girl had a "Cositano" martini which she liked. Bread was abundant but so-so. Salad for me a Caesar: ok. But: dinner came 1/2 way through my salad, and I'm a quick eater!! I had a Fruiti de Mare Linguini special. Pasta seemed over cooked, mussels incredibly small, red sauce ok. Girl had Veal Marsala: "average" acc to her (Needed more green beans). Daughter a Cod from the menu: Breaded and a bit soggy. (She liked it. Needed more green beans) Desert for the girls was cannolis and Tiramisu: abundant and tasty (both). Decaf coffee eh; cream brought in a coffee cup(?). There is a dining room upstairs (discovered on trip to restroom) which seems quieter and more cozy. I would prefer that over downstairs which was a bit loud, but only due to a couple of over zealous laughers at an adjacent table combined with tile floors. (Ask to go upstairs.) Service was polite, prompt, and attentive. Food too quick (and I NEVER say that.) Price for 3, with one cocktail and one glass of wine: $132. So, ok, eh, not bad. But will look elsewhere for the money next time.

Welcome to douchetown!!!! Oh god I absolutely HATED IT here. Over crowded, and full of your stereotypical Italian Princesses and Gino's... Girls SCREAMING and their boyfriends, people fighting.. good god..just not my crowd. IF, that's what you are looking for.. GO!!! it's THE place!! FYI, I really really hate saying all of that.. it makes me cringe :(

Never again! Not sure why I waited so long to write this and warn others of the potential disaster. I brought my friend here for her birthday last fall over Columbus Day weekend when the Hill has it's annual festival. We had both been here before and enjoyed sitting outside and the food. On this occasion we were seated upstairs as the night was chilly. It was packed due to the festival. Well during our 'nice and not cheap' dinner some of the staff(multiple guys) come upstairs where we are dining and proceed to pound on the bathroom door and start yelling for the person to come out. Very disruptive and frankly horrifying. They escort a man and a woman very loudly out of the restroom (I think it was the mens room?) and downstairs and I'm assuming out of the restaurant. During this time the servers are no where to be found except whispering to each other and no one comes by to explain or apologize. We can only assume drugs or other activites were taking place in the restroom. Very disappointed and I tell everyone I know to avoid this place...it's not like it is some cheap dive where you possibly expect that behavior and for management not to explain it I find unacceptable. I felt bad I took my friend here for her birthday...guess the cliental is sketchy

The newest addition to the Constantino Venda line is Venda Bar. Located adjacent to Constantio's and across from Venda Ravoli, Venda Bar takes advantage of its location and namesake. The bar has a small interior which is taken up mainly by the large bar and a few high window tables, but their draw is their claim on the square. About a dozen four top tables take up the courtyard where you can be calmed by the fountain or on a summer night be serenaded by some live music. Sitting outside with a drink always makes it feel like summer. I really like their drink list, which includes cocktails with fresh purees. My friend and I both got the Guavarita, a spin on a margarita with guava puree. It was yummy. My friend doesn't drink alcohol so asked for hers to be made with soda water instead of lime. The bartender was a little miffed at first, but took on the challenge, and my friend said that it tasted good. However, she was charged the same price as if it did have alcohol in it, which I thought was a little wrong, but we were more interested in enjoying our drinks and the great weather outside than figuring out prices. All the drinks seemed to be in the $10 range, and while that's a little on the expensive side, they are at least unique which makes them seem worth it. There was a lady eating at the bar, and I heard someone else ask for a menu from Constantino's, so while I don't know if they have their own menu, it sounds like you can order from the restaurant from here.

Beautiful bar. Bartender over poured alcohol, which makes it difficult to enjoy a lengthy stay. I would NOT recommend the wood grilled pizza, Amici's has the best!

Last night a few girlfriends of mine decided to have a girls night out on federal hill. We met 2 of the 5 of us over at Venda. The two that got here before the other 3 of us arrived had literally sat down and had ONE drink. These two girls ordered a prosecco and an apple martini. The "i watch way too much jersey shore" bartender literally told my friend that an apple martini was gay and that she should order something else. Maybe he was joking so my friend asked him to make her something else. He came over with this concoction that literally tasted like vomit in a glass. 4 of us tried it and all 4 said the same thing. She asked for another drink since his concoction was disgusting and he said "go fuck yourself maybe you should go home". Not exaggerating i heard it with my own ears. Obviously... this caused a scene since i don't believe any female should be spoken to that way regardless of the situation, let alone by a bartender serving you. I spoke to the owner who literally just sat there and didn't say a word and then the manager who didn't apologize and just gave us the bill. We absolutely didn't tip this establishment and if we didn't care about our own reputations in the rhode island community we wouldn't have paid. This was a group of 5 females, all in their 30's trying to enjoy a night out and then was attacked by a chump bartender with waxed eyebrows and suspenders. Only to have his actions backed by his owner and manager. I will NEVER go back to this establishment, nor with the 4 friends i was with and the group of girls on the side of us who overheard what went on. I wouldn't recommend this place and look forward to the day they close.

First, I want to say that I am a huge fan of Venda Ravioli and Constantino's. I was so excited when this space opened because it's such a great location and getting to sit in the open summer air having a drink on the square sounds perfect. The first time I went: there is no designated hostess stand. I hate it when your first impression of a restaurant is "What do I do?" I stood there for too long looking around, trying to make eye contact with every server buzzing by until someone finally acknowledged me and put me at a table. The menu out here is simple, pretty much just salads and pizzas for a light dinner. Pretty generic though and I couldn't see myself ever saying "I'm craving the pizza from Venda today." (There are other places around town that I do crave.) Service was minimal but I attributed that to the fact that it was a weekend summer night and they were packed. I was willing to give it another try. Trip #2: Lunch hour. Not crowded. But again, the fact that there is no head host or no sign is a problem. If you seat yourself, can you at least put up a sign? We were told to sit anywhere, so we sit and were immediately given place settings, water, and a bread basket. Now, often in restaurants the person that brings you bread & water is not necessarily the waiter so we waited. After we got that stuff, we chatted and waited patiently for menus. But then we noticed we still didn't have menus. The place is not that big. There was easily one server for 3 tables max. Everyone just kept whizzing by us as if they were in a rush (to get where?) and no one looked at us. I tried waving to flag someone down and they seemed to never see me. Remember, we had arrived with the intent to order food and cocktails. So as we waited, we had drank all of our water and ate all of the bread. But by now over a half hour had gone by. No one even offered to take a drink order. After trying to wave at people and being ignored, we decided to leave. And of course, right when we leave someone notices us and starts talking shit to another employee about us leaving. Please, you think we came in here to scam you out of water and a 50 cent loaf of bread? They saw us leaving and no one tried to apologize or ask what went wrong. I have to wonder if any of them got it through their thick heads that it was entirely their fault. This place is NOT special. We can all think of at least 3 other places on Atwells where you can get similar food & atmosphere. So given the half assed service, there is no reason to ever return. Half of the reviews here mention shitty service. Leave this place to the tourists.

I am from Connecticut and went to providence with my girlfriend and we had a great experience. We started off with the calamari and it was too die for. She got a pizza and I got a pasta dish both were good. We shared a bottle of wine which topped off our meal. I love the outdoor seating it was relaxing and a beautiful view. Our server was good and took good care of us. This place is a perfect place to sit outside on a perfect day! Only thing staff likes to gather outside in groups and have personal conversation while guest are enjoying their meal. I would definitely return because it was a great time.

My Girlfriend and I wanted come here after going to many other resturants on "The Hill" and im glad we did the waiter was a young Italian guy but he was very nice and very good. We tried one of the special apps oily t was a mozzarella and tomato with Parma prosciutto that was so good then went for some classics... I went with Chicken park thst was cook very well and the penne pasta was prob the best ive ever had cooked to perfection bi th covered in there house gravy thst I thought was par as far as ssusage ta gravy goes.. The Mrs had penne pasta with pink vodka sauce again the pasta was phenomenal and the vodka sauce was out of this world. The ambiance was nice we chose to eat outside there was nice live music (tues night) and the weather was grand... I did however, take away 2 stars do to portions being very small and the prices being very high (App special was 18.00) and the menu was sub par....but the food was good and service was awesome... good place

Nice sophisticated bar, excellent and courteous service. Food was excellent..we had Porcini Ravioli with tartufo and Cavalelli with sausage and Broccoli d Rabe both were absolutely excellent. Wine choices are extensive. I would highly recommend this place for great Italian food in an urban, atmosphere.

I wanted to like this place I really did. The place is cute and the food is good. Okay here is my gripe. I am Hispanic and I was with my Italian friend who is in her 80s. I ordered the chicken soup for an appetizer and I added lemon(typical Spanish thing). The next thing I knew I was getting reemed out by the chef! He was screaming at me that his soup needed no extra ingredients. I tried explaining to him that I was Spanish and that we do that sometimes, he then proceeded to tell me he was Italian and I was being very insulting. This gentleman should have read restaurant 101 that the customer is always right, what a jerk. Totally embarrassing.

Pretty bar but drinks not so good. If you are looking for somewhere to people watch on Federal Hill this is your place. I ordered a drink off the drink menu " velvet rope". It tasted somewhere in between cough medicine & coolade. When I asked the bar tender to take it back & make a cape cod he told me that the velvet rope was not a good drink! My cape cod came & it was all cranberry couldn't taste the vodka. Maybe wine or beer is the safe bet here.

Went out for lunch yesterday, although it's a nice spot with plenty of outdoor seating it was a less then decent experience! We happily waited ten minutes for a table, we brought our 17 month old daughter and the hostess asked if we needed a high chair, when it was brought to the table the thing was falling apart and had screws sticking out, the menus are absolutely filthy, covered in stains and dingy! The tables are not comfortable or clean and our umbrella was broken. The food was sub par at best! I ordered the rigatoni that comes with panchetta it was so incredibly salty it was difficult to eat, I will say the pasta was cooked perfectly, an their bread is great! The tortellini bolognese was kind of just blah and the tortellini was soft and mushy but what put the nail in the coffin was the fact that the service was awful, no offer for a second round, had to ask for specials, never offered cheese or cracked pepper, no bread refill and was too busy apologizing to other tables to even notice when we were done and had stacked our plates! Oh and they don't have a kids menu or even suggestions for kids just an FYI

As an app we had the zucchini flowers lightly sauteed in a light flour batter. Excellent! For Lunch I had the Saltimbocca alla Romana which veal sauteed with shallots, sage, prosciutto and white wine! Tender and tasty! I never really had a bad meal here. I also bought about $50.00 worth of Venda ravioli! YUMMMMMM!!!!

My boyfriend and I went here for the first time last night. We have been really looking forward to trying it since the summer. We ordered the calamari to start, which was okay,we both agreed we have had better. He ordered the lobster ravioli and I got the penne alla vodka with chicken. His portion was so small he was done before I even got into my meal. For how much his meal cost he should have definitely received a larger portion size. My meal was pretty good but I've definitely had better pink vodka sauce at other restaurants. I feel like the best thing we got last night were the drinks. $100 later for the 2 of us, I doubt we will be going back again.

Excellent spot for good Italian food. Can't beat eating at the bar on a nice night with all the doors open to DePasquale Square. The surroundings with the live music puts you into a different place. The calamari is one of the best you will find. Overall a beautiful experience, la dolce vita

So I have heard many comments good and bad about Venda Bar so had to try it for myself, well with my girlfriend as always. What I can say is I agree with most people I have talked to, GREAT for the scenery but food and service, AHHH!! You walk in and there is a 100% buzz, but not one the staff really cares about. 2 times received dirty silverware, which the waitress noticed and still dropped off, weird. And the food just wasnt what I expected. It's a soft pizza which get soggy quick, you really have to like this kind of pizza to enjoy. I love all pizza's, just not this one. Some of the other apps we shared were good, and Traditional Constantino Classics. I think it's a good drink spot, but that's it.

Need to add my two cents here. Lots of negative talk and I wonder why. We walked in sat at the bar, ordered drinks from Franky checked the menu and decided to eat at a table. Franky took care of us at the table. The bar tender/waitperson had a fine, open personality, was very knowledgeable and attentive. Wines were fine. We chose a nice red we had just sampled at Gasbarros. Menu wise it was southern Italian with all the usual choices. Two of us had Veal Saltimboca with the special gravy over the pasta. Simply wonderful! We all had special coffees for desert and Franky knew what we wanted. Ambiance was a little sparce. Mostly small high tops. Obviously meant to be more bar than restaurant. Probably really busy with the doors opened to the Plaza in the summer. I believe the kitchen is shared with the owner's restaurant next door. OK, this is a rambling review. ....Sorry. We all enjoyed our meals, the wine was good, we sat in the window watching the cold world walk by, we had a great waiter/bar tender, a very nice experience. So compare our thoughts with some of the other reviews and check it out.

They flew in a pizza chef from Italy, but they might as well hired a Johnson and Wales intern. Pizza pasta pizza pasta - do people eat anything else in Providence?

Read the review in the Providence Journal and wanted to try it. It was very average. They wasted the money on their Neapolitan oven and world pizza chef. Crust was good. Sauce and cheese was ok. Other than the edge of the crust, everything was soggy. There was no taste to any of the ingredients. Would never go back.

The service was awful. After placing our order for 1 Appetizer and 4 Entrees, we were abandoned by the waitstaff save for the busgirl persistently filling our water glasses. We waited for almost an hour with no word on our food. When we asked our waitress (she appeared briefly) where our appetizer was she made up an excuse why the food hasn't come out. She said the kitchen was backed up. However, patrons to the right and left who arrived after us were enjoying their food. I pointed this out. The waitress responded that they only ordered appetizers. Umm...We ordered an appetizer. She stared at me in response before leaving. My mom (I wanted to show her that food in Providence, RI was just as good as in NJ) wanted to just leave, but i convinced her to stay until half past the hour. At one minute to the deadline, our food comes out: 3 Pasta dishes and my tuna entree. The pasta dishes (noodles and sauce) were good, but my tuna was so over-cooked it might as well have come from a can. If I wasn't so hungry, I would have sent it back. After eating, I asked for the check, which arrived within moments unlike everything else. For the first time in my restaurant dining life, I left a 10% tip. The service and food was sub-par, and so was my tip. Horrible night. The worst is that I've been told by so many people that Constantino's is great. The only way I'll ever be back here is if some one convinces me to go because they know the owner. I want to share my experiences with him.

I'll keep this short and sweet... The pizza is a disappointment. The crust, sauce, cheese and toppings were very flavorful, but, both times that I ate there, the middle half of the pizza was wet and soggy. Good salads, drinks and outdoor atmosphere, though.

Went back to Constantino's to sate my craving for some freshly made pasta. The Linguine alle Vongole (linguine with Manila clams and a spicy white whine sauce) did not disappoint. What DID disappoint was being stuck in the corner of their upstairs dining room -- which is cute, if a little tacky, with painted murals, tiled carpet, and mirrored columns -- where we were plagued by fruit flies, one of which landed in my beer. Our server was pleasant, but he was definitely not Phil. At times we felt a little neglected, despite the fact that it seemed all the waitstaff on that night congregated in a group upstairs. While my ruined beer was comped without a fuss, it was a little disturbing that our waiter seemed unfazed about the fly situation. Without the square and our favorite server, Constantino's was coasting on their food alone. The results is three stars.

I went there last Friday with my boyfriend and his family (6 people total) I enjoyed myself fully. All the food was cooked perfectly with great portions spices well in balance with the dish. Arrived in timely fashion. We had RI style calamari (not to many hot peppers and cooked just right) Muscles (perfect ration of seafood to juice) and Carpaccio (only comment here was a little too much arugala - maybe half what I got would be great, but the beef and capers etc were awesome) Main courses were pizza, manicotti, cod in pomodoro, chicken scaloppini, All were delicious and well cooked. Honestly I do not know why people are slamming this place. The food was awesome. We went on a Friday night and sat outside. They had professional singers on the plaza and it was fun to watch everyone dance and have a good time. Definitely would recommend you check it out.

Terrible experience. Went for Mother's Day and was seated upstairs in the tacky dining room. (Broken mirrored columns and flies free of charge.) What kind of professional wait staff doesn't know if they serve bottled water? And then, when they realize they do (at almost 5 bucks a pop) tell you it's not cold and ask if you want to drink it warm? And then...when you politely decline...bring it to you in a utensil crock with no ice? Info on the menu was about as useless. Me: "What have you tried?" Him: "Nothing much." Awesome. While the hand made on site pasta was good...it was ice cold and we had to send it back to be re-done. Which meant they nuked it. And dried it out. And served it only luke warm. Really? Really??? We had children with us and ordered them chicken fingers and fries. We asked if they had ketchup before we ordered. Apparently that was not the case. So they brought us BBQ sauce...which the kids don't eat...but we could hear them arguing at the bottom of the stairs about how it's close enough. Which led to my 5 year old niece tapping her father's arm and asking what "@&$^!*%" meant. I didn't hear his reply because I was busy shooing the flies away from my warm water. The manager came over because the kids wouldn't eat the chicken, our pasta was dry and gummy and out of 5 entrees only 2 were eaten. She took off the pasta dish but said she was only comping 1 meal that night and that the "kids should have eaten the chicken without ketchup." Obviously she has no children of her own. We stopped at McDonalds where they DO have cold bottled water AND ketchup for one's nuggets. Bottom Line: 135 bucks for 2 consumable meals. (And no rave reviews on those, either...they were just "okay.") The yelling waitstaff, surly manager, tacky decor, hungry children, blue air from all the swearing and the flies were included gratis. I wish I had gone down the road to one of the many other restaurants that the district offers. Poorly done, Constantino's...poorly done.

I'm over this place. The food is seriously average, which is a shame, as the location is amazing. With the great Italian selection on Federal Hill, you really have to blow my mind if I'm going to come back. I had the penne alla vodka with shrimp, the shrimp being a $5 extra addition that I got 3 medium whimpy shrimps with. The food was medium hot, which is probably my number 1 pet peeve in a restaurant. Please don't make my food and then let it sit there under the warmer until it's no longer a decent temperature. The caprese salad was unbelievable over dressed and the meal took about 2 hours longer than it should have because of the insane food wait on a Wednesday night (with 3 other patrons). Sorry Constantino's but you've seen the last of me.

    (2)
  • Paloma K.

Constantino's is really as good as it gets, especially when it comes to Caesar salad... Enough for two, and your waiter makes it right in front of your table in a beautiful wooden bowl. We were a bit embarrased at the prospect... but it was a combination of entertainment and education! Plus, the best Caesar we've ever had... and my husband pretty much gets a Caesar salad at every restaurant we've ever been to. We opted to sit inside, but they have outside seating too. Happy eating!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
