Their pulled pork is fresh and pulled right off the bone. Fresh ingredients and made to order. One of my go-to places when on the East Side.

Whenever I'm on Thayer I make it a point to hit up Baja's Burritos. I love customizing my own burrito to my particular taste that moment. They offer plenty of toppings and as the sign says: they're free! I've never had anything bad here & if I did it would be my fault since I'm the one who selected it. They also have a great selection of Mexican sodas. I'm partial the their orange but they're all so good & have no high fructose syrup. I've ordered their chicken fingers for my 4 year old & they're pretty good too. The staff is hit or miss though but I've had more positive experiences than negative. Another drawback is its size. It's pretty cramped inside especially by the ordering area. And sometimes they can be a little skimpy on the toppings especially with the sour cream & guacamole. Plus there's no public bathrooms.

This place has only one good item...pulled pork. Anything containing pulled pork is pretty decent, everything else is subpar. They do have one nice salsa. Popular with Brown students for its large portions...big burrito!!

A nice FLAVORFUL Mexican joint in the middle of Thayer st. I always go here with fellow yelper Lizzie Q. My personal favorite is the ground beef tacos. Beef is fresh and they make the food very fast as usually they are always busy. Prices aren't too bad for what it is. However dining room is small so you better make sure to get a seat. Also parking can be an issue however if you know how to parallel park you should do just fine

Due to the location & limited parking I frequently use the call your order in and pick up feature - Best is with someone else driving, I dash out of the car while coming to a slow stop and the driver circles until I am visible once more and holding the to go order - Key is the to go order, if not.. slim to no chance of getting back into the car! Alright on to the food but first I have eaten in once and I am not a fan of the tiny tables with the line of people staring you down as the chowing begins. Food - yes that is the reason for this review, 4 stars reason. It's hot, fresh, fast and tasty. Oh the large selection of toppings! Go crazy. Build it how you like and don't hold back on the toppings - I think should be their motto. Taco salads, burritos, quesadillas, cheese steaks, wings and even fries have come home with us! These fine people are smart and put toppings on the side so not to make the food soggy, love that. Affordable to top it off keeps me coming back.

You can't help but get hyped up for your impending meal when you're ordering at Baja's. Meat constantly sizzling on the griddle? mmm Long but swift line? ok, we're in this together, people Unlimited free toppings? awww yeah Random TVs in the wall? ...what? After all that anticipation, though, sometimes I bite into my burrito, and it's just like... kind of bland. Where is the flavor? I'm not sure what to blame. The thick-ish tortilla? The strong chicken broth flavor of the rice? The meat? The beans? The fact that the cheese is shredded instead of melted into the tortilla (Chipotle's worst crime against burritohood)? Myself for not getting enough toppings? I'll probably never know, since there are just too many variables to conduct any kind of controlled burrito study :/ Am I crazy? Baja's gets so much love from the locals, but I guess I think it's overrated. Chipotle is overrated, too, but at least it's consistent...

Good tacos. I like the "salad bar" thing they do where you can tell them exactly what you want in and on each taco. and $7.50 for three. Mm and price is right.

Baja's a small storefront on heralded Thayer St. Making grilled items that usually get put into burrito form. Pros: Fresh Grilled Items Very Affordable All Toppings Included Large Portions Quick Service Cons: Fried Items Taste Funny Confusing Order System (When Busy) Some Mediocre Items Tip: Don't order a full dinner, it's a rip off. Stick with a burrito or taco. Baja does the job to fulfill hunger and it's better then the burrito chains, but some of the items are average at best. Thanks

Bruce Springsteen sang a song back in 1984, reminiscing about the good old days. That one friend was a baseball player, that one girl used to be able to turn all the boys' heads, and we certainly drank til we got our fill. I think we've all got our fair share of stories, and for me, Baja's settles in nicely. One of my biggest regrets was being born a few years too soon, seeing as Baja's didn't come around until my junior year of college. I'm fairly certain I would have gone off meal plan, saved mom and dad a few bucks, and packed on a few pounds. Roughly 7 bucks gets you a delicious burrito packed with unlimited ingredients. And yes, that includes FREE guac. Pulled pork was perfect for the hangover; chipotle chicken or grilled steak otherwise. The guys behind the counter are some of the nicest guys on Thayer Street. I'm impressed they've been able to stay so kind after semesters and semesters of trust fund babies and entitled youths stumbling in at 1:58 in the morning. They put up with a lot, so I always make sure to drop them a tip each time I go. Not only that, the guys make a killer burrito. I was lucky enough to head back to Providence this past weekend for Alumni weekend, and you can bet it was one of my top priorities. A few years out of college, and nothing's changed. I'm constantly looking for excuses to venture back to Providence. Keep it up Baja's. As long as you keep making the best burritos around, I'll forgo my alumni donations and keep you in business. Glory Days.

I really like the taco salads with the fried shell. The quality is consistent and ordering is easy. Even when the line is out the door, it moves fast. They also have limited seating.

As I convince myself burritos can be a psuedo-healthy protein-bomb to make up for lost muscle fiber after a workout, this will continue to be my home base of heavenly delusion. Touching back down to reality, here's the low-down on this hidden garden of voluptuous B-52 food bombs. Straight up the most affordable food coma you can find on the East, West, North, South, and every other side. Grab yourself a measly 7 bucks and slap together your own frankensteinian tex-mex-mix of carniveggie glory. Dead animals range from chicken of all different seasonings to your more heavy-loaded beef fare. Not into the once-living filler? Slap together your combo of bean protein with one of the umpteen varieties of vegetable and sauce preparations. Not to dump on Chipotle, but dump Chipotle. The bang for the buck and the bust of the burrito is bar none superior, just a few steps down the ol' Thayer.

If you order nachos they put the styrofoam containers IN THE MICROWAVE!!! After witnessing them make someone's nachos I will never go back. Here's a side of cancer to go with your nachos. 1. You don't microwave nachos at a restaurant 2. The microwave is the last place you should be putting styrofoam, what else are they doing if they'll do that right in front of you?

I came to Rhode Island to visit a friend and she took me to Thayer street. This place stuck out to me and I wanted to try it since I LOVE Mexican food. The line was short which was nice. They had a variety of toppings to choose from. The ingredients tasted fresh. I had a steak and buffalo chicken bowl. I think they had an awesome selection of meat choices (better variety than chipotle). They had a hot sauce and boy was it was spicy. I love my food with extra hot sauce but even this was too much for me. The only reason I didn't give a 5 star raising was because the space was narrow. It was a little tight. But overall a great experience and the prices were reasonable.

If anything could possibly be bad about Bajas I would say it's just finding parking. My brother and I make frequent trips here after school or whenever we're hungry and in the area! The burritos are great and honestly beat Chipotle right down the road. If Bajas were a nationwide chain I wouldn't be as upset about moving across the country!

This is the go-to place on college hill for omnivorous drunk eating, munchies, or late night guilt eating. Portions are huge and prices are not bad at all. I would never eat here on a regular day. It is just really heavy and as a vegan convert, I don't think this place could ever be too safe for a vegan. French fries and everything is HOT and FRESH. I guess they could improve on vegan-clean and animal-free options but seeing what the target consumers seem to be, I don't think it'll ever happen. They do pretty well in business.

Just average. Chips and salsa was lame considering the high price. Maybe on me for expecting great Mexican food in New England.

far more than your budget could worry. fresh ingredients and unlimited condiments .... i always grab the burrito bowl with different variations of toppings. Awesome. Open extremly late.

  • M P.

The good - big menu (minus the enchiladas we were looking for), everything made in front of you, food tasted pretty fresh, unlimited toppings. The bad - guy making our burrito literally threw the toppings on with such disdain for our order that i no longer wondered why the line was moving quickly, pulled pork was salty, and while sitting next to a tv screen (one at each table) was kind of cool, place was so noisy we could barely hear each other. Good for a quick bite to eat.

Do not get steak burrito. The tortillas were sticky and the steak was chewy and I had to keep spitting it out because it had stringy fat in it.

    (2)
  • Monica B.

Sometimes the amount your burrito is stuffed can be inconsistent. And sometimes you get the really standoffish guy that makes you feel like he's angry at the world. But then you remember that the guacamole doesn't cost extra then you suck it up and you eat it all and then you come back because it actually is pretty yummy and cheaper than Chipotle.

    (4)
  • Sue B.

Soft tacos: good flavor but don't they usually come with two soft shell per taco to avoid that they will break apart. Customer service advice: make eye contact with your costumer. The guy behind the counter has a very poor attitude about being in that business. The cashier took my card and gave it back without saying one word. I don't need to go back

  • Melissa W.

The selling point was they were open till 2AM and I have grown weary of late night pizza. I am a Tex-Mex amateur, but a rumbly belly still needs to be satisfied so I figured "What the hell? and saddled up at 12:30 to head into Providence for some late night face stuffing. Place? Tiny. Menu? Large. Prices? Cheap. Food? Delicious. Toppings? Voluptuous. Service? Uninterested and fast. Just how this chica likes it.

My fav late night spot . They are fun and always have a good time there. They always have motz sticks ready for me ;) and best tacos

  • Kristine R.

A few things that made this late-night spot so awesome: -- They are open til 2am. This practically NEVER happens in RI. -- They have MORE THAN just burritos on their menu. (They have chicken fingers, salad, burgers, nachos, etc.) -- They have no quelms on loading your order up! -- There is a TV at every seating area. (Although I could do without, it's still pretty neat.) -- They are quick to serve your hungry self. -- It's pretty cheap and affordable. Brownie points!! -- They don't charge extra for certain toppings. My guacamole lovin' self is psyched! -- Their food is a fresh, sloppy, delicious mess. End of story. The only downside is it's claustrophobic space that virtually only leaves room for a single file line. Other than that, this place is awesome. Needless to say, I will head here first before I walk into a Chipotle or Cilantro ever again.

Terrible steak and cheese, fried tastes weird, service was slow and confusing, the place was filling with people that I swear weren't even paying and trying to score free food.

I come from Hawaii, where fresh foods, and excellent chefs are the norm. While I am not very much into Tex-Mex, I can't help but say Baja Burrito this place has great character, fantastic flavored, and very affordable prices packed into a small space (just like there burritos). Diverse menu and definitely worth stopping especially late at night.

  • Amanda M.

Best burrito EVER!! Quality ingredients and so many to choose from. Both the chipotle chicken and pork are very flavorful and have no fat on it like you get at a certain chain competitor. Will be back again sooner than later.

  • Zach A.

If you're looking for food without flavor this is a great place! Otherwise you're better off at chipotle...

  • Joie S.

I can't believe it took me so long to get to this place. This place is delicious and super affordable. The food is fresh, the staff is friendly and did I mention how affordable it is?! No more "guacamole is extra", all of the topping are included in the price. Throw on as much or as little as you want, how great is that!!?? This is my new go to for taco salads on Thayer now. Check it out, you won't be disappointed.

I live in New York City, capital of great tasting food from all over the world, but If I had to pick any food over this one I would pick this one over and over and over again. I love Bajas & it's never let me down. Every time I head to Rhode Island, my visit isn't complete without a quesadilla, burrito, taco or even a tortilla salad from Bajas, the food is freshly made, honestly nothing like wack ass chipotle or any of those Mexican chains. Seriously guys, if you've never been to this place you haven't had delicious Mexican food ! It's a crowd pleaser always having you come back for more :)

    (5)
  • Jodie G.

The food is fabulous, but the service is the worst. The guys behind the counter treat you as if you should be grateful they are letting you purchase their food. I thought I was being overly sensitive, but reading the other reviews here, I found I am not the only one! Each time I go there, I hope things will be different, but it's the same guys, talking amongst themselves until a customer interrupts. After years of poor treatment, I've decided to avoid the place. Viva la Eastside Pockets, where the food is delicious and the workers treat you like a person.

Want large, large amounts of Tex-Mex with as many toppings as you'd like and free guac (unlike coughChipotlecough)? Baja's is the place for you. Their burritos are the size of a small child; their taco salads come with a heavily fried, heavily delicious, heavily unhealthy shell; their quesadillas are served with generous dollops of sour cream (although, mind you, that quesadilla is usually not perfectly pressed and is likely to open up). Furthermore, they offer a shrimp filling as your meat choice-another area where they score above Chipotle. However, I do feel that their ingredients (especially their guac) aren't as high-quality as Chipotle's. Furthermore, the inside of the restaurant is kind of sketchy with ad-looping mini TV screens adorning each booth. I only get takeout here, especially if I'm in the mood for some shrimp.

I F***ING love Tex Mex. that's what i call it.. I've been coming here religiously since they first opened. a lot of late drunked nights have ended here with a fat overly stuffed burrito ending up in my hair ear and lap. but i ain't mad. place is small no doubt about it. especially late at night when everyone is getting out of the bars and got them late night munchies. This place is awesome way better then Chipotle down the street. you ask for a lil extra guacamole they charge you a buck fifty. Not at all here 5.99 for a burrito and as many of the toppings you want in it. and it looks like a burrito when they hand it too you. not a ball like the place mentioned above. I've had most of the meats they offer and they are all very good and flavorful, i personally like the chipotle chicken best (how ironic hah) but this is definitely the place to go when you got those munchies and you feel like you can eat the world but got no monies hit up Tex Mex foooo sure

I'm a tex/mex junky, so naturally I had to try this place being new to town. I was quickly served, food was fresh, hot and really tasty. Some of the counter guys pack a major attitude when you ask them to do even the most basic thing that requires the slightest extra effort. God forbid putting the hot sauce in a small cup on the side instead of dumping it on my food probably shouldn't warrant throwing the spoon down, thumbing around for a small plastic container and filling it with sauce while muttering things in Spanish under your breath. I probably didnt deserve that and if the food wasn't awesome I probably wouldn't come back. That being said I've been back at least 3 times lol. I naturally gravitate moreso toward locally owned type busineses rather then chains so I would still come back. Idk who owns or manages the place but they should probably have a talk with their staff. Judging by some of the reviews I've seen I'm not the only one with this experience. The silver lining though is that food, I don't care if they mutter something in Spanish (which I speak anyway), I'm a sucker for good tex/mex and this place is easily the best in town. I would definitely tell anyone to come try it.

Great burritos and good cheesesteak. Bunch of things you can get. It's sort of like Chipotle but it is local so everything is super fresh and GUACAMOLE is free. Also would recommended nacho fries which are amazing

All meats are same price! Def. take advantage of all fixings being free, inc. guacamole.

Best philly cheese steak I've ever had in my life. Piping hot and cheesy and the meat grilled and seasoned to perfection. The fries were perfect too. Crispy, salty, and hot. I'm not from around this area and this meal made my day.

  • Eric P.

ARRIBA ARRRRRIBA! (Is this racist) Baja's tacos, let me give you the spicy scoop on this place via the emails I keep receiving ladies and gents. "Eric, why isn't there enough room for two people to walk by each other here?" Well little johnny, in the country of Tex-Mex, we like people bumpin' and grinding, it keeps us close, it keeps us family. "Eric, where does the line form to start my order?" Good question, one which has been passed down for ages. It's more of a feeling than a specific area or direction. I suggest walking 3-5 feet into the establishment and starting your order when someone mumbles something slightly audible at you. It's a spot a little off center to the right, if you're looking at the staff straight on. "Eric, why is the staff being very cold to me and slapping my items violently into my taco?" This is just classic courtesy in the country of Tex-Mex. Each cold glare, or moment of silence that makes you feel like the server hates their life, actually means they are happy of your patronage and hope you come back! "Eric, I almost forgot, hows the food?" Johnny, its quite good, if I had to pin point it, I would say it's a cross between a Mexican style food court place at the mall, and a full on Mexican restaurant in Mexico. "Eric, your description of the food seems...kinda vague/middle of the road?" Johnny, look how many stars I gave it you little dummy, and go to bed.

  • Noah S.

Hands down, 5 stars. Flawless. So much better than Moe's or any other Mexican place with this style. If ordering either a quesadilla, tacos, a burrito, tostadas, or anything with unlimited toppings, you tell the person at the counter what you want and he gets it for you and wraps it up so exquisitely. Employees looked miserable, but it doesn't matter because the food was amazing. Best burritos ever. Had mine with shrimp, lettuce, rice, cheese, and cilantro. Pretty basic, but one of the best burritos I have ever had. The nachos are large, with cheese, beans, guacamole, and some vegetables. The three tacos meal is cheap, and you can choose three different meats and change up your toppings. YAY!!!!! The Santa Fe burger was cooked perfectly, and came with melted cheese, tomatoes, and lots of jalapeño peppers for lots of spice. French fries had lots of seasoning. Very cheap and quick meal. Good luck finding a table, though.

this place right here let me tell you is one of the best spots around for a burrito nachos grilled foood etc i get the taco bowl salad and load it up with all of there toppings and i personally get the spicy chicken,, extra chicken? dollar more .. i always get extra... there chimichanga aka the deep fried burrito with a side of guac sour cream and salsa ... the best!!! crunchy on the out side and delicious filling of cheese rice and your choice of meat ... you can get loaded fries with your choice of anything ... and there staff is a bunch of cool Latinos that keep it real lol

Love the food! Everything is so fresh ~ so many options. Awesome Pernil tacos ~ a must try if you are on Thayer!

    (5)
  • James M.

This place deserves a five star alone for the price of the burritos they serve! $5.99 for any burrito all toppings free and yea that means guacamole and sour cream that all most all other places charge for. Another huge reason this place is my favorite Mexican spot in providence is the late hours, it's always open until 2am and that is unheard of for good food on Thayer. Ok let me warn everyone that yes the staff that are making your burritos are Spanish speakers so deal with it because it makes it more authentic and also they are not super happy to be there because they have to deal with brown and Risd kids all day. So enjoy a awesome burrito for only six bucks!

  • Philomena B.

I'm generally a decent human being when it comes to eating out. I tip between 30-50% of the cost of the meal, and don't give attitude to the staff. I've had friends who worked as waiters and hostesses, so I'm at least indirectly familiar with how shitty it can be waiting on demanding, hungry people all day. So, when I found myself in Baja rolling my eyes at the man behind the counter, I knew shit was getting real. I'm a vegan, meaning I don't eat dairy products. I ordered a Chimichanga--an item I've ordered before here. I get the usual rice, beans, and onions on the chimi, and then, before I can decline a handful of cheese, it makes its way onto my meal. Literally, cheese midair, I blurted out: "Please no cheese". Dude looks up. Pause. Picks a few strands of cheese off the chimi. He then asks with attitude if I'm like lactose intolerant or something. I say no, I'm vegan, I don't eat cheese. He stares angrily at me. Then at my chimi. Then at me. Then throws away the burrito and states: "A chimichanga comes with cheese". I respond that I've ordered it here before, and the server asked me if I wanted cheese. He rolls his eyes. I also note that the menu does not specify that a chimichanga comes with cheese. He huffs, he puffs, and ignores me as he drops my chimichanga in the fryer. Awesome. 5 minutes pass. He talks about me with the staff (gasp* I look white but yes I know spanish). He scoops out my chimi, gives it to another server. The server puts sour cream next to the chimi. I make no comment, resigning myself to scraping it off. I'm tired of being in the restaurant, as I am clearly becoming the object of conversation. He whispers something under his breath to the other server, the server gets a new to go box and adds lettuce and guac minus sour cream. Original dude rolls his eyes at me. DEAR GOD I'M ONLY ASKING FOR NO DAIRY PRODUCTS. IS THAT REALLY SO DIFFICULT? I state that veganism really isn't that strange. I pay. I give no tip. I've never received such shitty service in my life. Instead of apologizing for not asking whether I wanted cheese, I got the silent treatment for 8 minutes. I can't believed I paid for that service. I can't believe I just had to have a show down over no cheese. This is ridiculous.

I had a hard time deciding whether to give Bajas one star or two stars. The food actually wasn't bad, but the service was abysmal. The concept of having all toppings be free is great, especially for vegetarians and pescatarians. I went to Bajas for bite to eat at 11pm, and the place wasn't that crowded. I ordered a crispy fish taco (which is ON THEIR MENU), and the chef said that it would take five minutes because they need to make the fish. I said that was fine, I'd be happy to wait. He stared at me, and muttered something under his breath, clearly expressing how unhappy he was that I wanted a fish taco. He then looked over at my boyfriend and blurted "YOU want a fish taco too?" How incredibly rude. That was probably the worst service I have received in a while. It's not like I was making a ridiculous request - I was ordering something on their menu, and it was 3 hours until their closing time! They also refuse to give you water (except for bottled water), which is a little unacceptable to me. Not only is that unenvironmentally friendly and promotes soft-drink consumption, it made me go to the bathroom sink to get water. p.s. the fish in the fish taco was over-fried and the batter was rather tough. that said, I wanted the taste of fried food that night, so it was okay.

I have given this place tons of tries and everything is sub par. The meets are bad and poor quality. It is alot for your money but wth Antonios right down the street, i would go there 10 out of 10 times.

  • Joe B.

After hearing all the great buzz about this place, I decided to give it a try. Lets just the say that the Chimichanga with steak (very good), shrimp (not bad), and pork (a bit salty) was pretty good and tough to finish, because there was so much food! The burritos and tacos are jammed packed with food. They don't cut corners on the amount of food so be ready to stuff your face. The meats and side toppings, pico de gallo, beans, and guacamole were all good. However, be aware that the pork is on the greasy side, but once in a while it's ok to break your diet. I will definitely be a repeat offender and recommend this place to anyone.

  • Maria D.

I wasn't crazy about this place when I went. I felt like it was like most burrito places and lacked flavor and originality. I would pick that over chipotle but I still was not crazy about my fajita and the nachos were pretty bland. I did like that the toppings were not an added on few like most places and definitely fit in for the college crowd.

This place is amazing! The only down fall is the seating and how tiny it is, but I can deal. Wish I didn't live all the way in coventry and that city driving didn't scare the s%*^ out of me. ...maybe that's a good thing tho, if it were too close I'd become even fatter lol ;)

If you are a college student around the Prov area and looking for a late night bite to eat this is where it's at! Or even if you been bar hopping all night and need some food to go with that hangover you will have the next morning here is where it's at! they are open late as in 3am late. Portions are good and they make everything according to what you want. Beware of the extra spicy hot sauce, always get it on the side! I always get the taco salad which I load with meats and veggies. SOO FREAKEN GOOD! or the 3 tacos which you can fill with whatever you want that can fit. GO HERE next time you are on Thayer Street! P.S. Most of the time, the Latin guys there are eye candy! Caliente! haha

I've been to baja's plenty of times and honestly this place is great. I think it's better than Chipotle which is right down the street. They are open late, til 2 am, which is great. The food is delicious and they have so many different options.

  • Pang X.

'OK' place..'free toppings' but they're really included in the price already. One of the servers need to lose the arrogant attitude. C'mon you're in the food industry, get over yourself. If you can't take the heat, get outta the kitchen. The other servers were pleasant enough. We had (build-your-own) burritos, no complaints, and would try the menu again. For now, just 3 's.

  • Rainn W.

Ok I've eaten here so many times and have always loved it, and I always tip. this last time I just got annoyed that they were rushing me like crazy to the point where I didn't even get my toppings in- there wasn't a line behind me and All I wanted was pinto bean and onions and tomato but it pissed me off enough to actually never want to come back. Sorry baja's you've lost my business.

I would not say it is authentic Mexican food but it is definitely really good amazing Mexican style food. I was such a frequent customer here at one point that the cooks knew my order. I love how they have vegetarian options and jarritos soda!! Every time I've visited I have been lucky to find seating but I imagine they must get packed at certain times. Parking is always a hassle on Thayer street but Bajas is worth every hassle, trust me!

Yummy! I ordered a black bean and rice burrito and it was huge and delicious. It was packed as hell when I came, which was around 530 pm on a Saturday. The staff was quick and efficient and I did not wait long at all.

We stopped in for a quick, cheap eat before a movie, and my burrito was was so good that I found my mind trailing off half way through the flick wanting more of where we had just been. I cannot say enough good things about my carnitas burrito. The pork, pulled and shredded, was... I'll say it, mind blowing. Melt in your mouth, salty enough, with crispy ends. All toppings come complimentary, so I stuffed my burro with seasoned rice, black beans, corn chutney, perfectly homemade guacamole, pico de gallo, cheese, sour cream and a combination of medium and mild salsa. I prefer a higher quality cheese, so I'll just skip this next time. Staff is fast, kind, and generous with gifting a swizzle cup of tangy frozen yogurt emblematic of frozen sour cream. Yum. We might just make this part of a New Year's Day tradition: 1. Brunch at Ferns and Flowers 2. Nap 3. Burritos at Baja 4. Movie 5. Digestifs and cheesecake at none other than the Factory.

I usually steer clear of the restaurants on Thayer Street. It's almost always congested; it's really tough to find parking, particularly during the academic year; and you end up paying too much for unremarkable food, the quality of which is nowhere near what you get in other parts of the city. Baja is the one place that beckons me to Thayer Street for a meal, despite the negatives. This place bears checking out, if for no other reason than to make your own salad. You can construct a monumental dinner plate for around $8: a very good lunch deal, and a remarkable dinner deal. There is a set price for the salad, so pile the fixings high (though you will be charged more if you add a second meat option). In the end, you could be looking at the innards of about ten tacos on a plate that's dangerously filled to capacity. I've had a couple of these magnificent, "deconstructed taco" meals--and they are really, really filling and delicious. The service is fast and friendly; the staff has the assembly line format down really well, so your door-to-meal time is impressively brief. It's unfortunate that the place is barely larger than the food counter, set up so that customers must form a tightly-packed, single line while placing and then, awaiting their order. There is some dining space inside, but it's less claustrophobic and more fun to sit outside and enjoy your food al fresco (sidewalk seating is also limited). Baja is located on a stretch of Thayer Street that is excellent for people watching. What this place loses in atmosphere, comfort and accessibility, it makes up for in taste, portion sizes and value. Your best bet is to go on a summer night, when you're not standing elbow to elbow with an army of undergrads, and you may get lucky and find the equivalent of the Holy Grail on Thayer Street: a parking spot and an outdoor table to call your own.

I'll start with the fact that they are open until 2 AM! I eat a pork burrito every time I come here and I am never disappointed. The guys making the food are always laughing and joking around. Also, I have had trouble with finding Jarrito's mango soda at other Mexican places, but Baja's always has it! Skip Chipotle or Cilantro's and take the drive over to Baja's! I have probably eaten here probably a hundred times and it never gets old!

I go to Baja's pretty regularly... At least five or six times a month on and off for the past five years. I have to say, the service has always been very consistent and so has the food. I have never had a bad experience here, which is great considering I've been here at least fifty times. I know it's not the most amazing Mexican ever, but the price is unbeatable for how much food you get. They pack those burritos until they're ready to actually burst. On top of that they have a pretty varied selection as far as that sort of burrito set up is concerned. Most places only have your three basic meat choices and a tiny selection of add ons. At Baja's I believe there's six meat choices. There could be more. The pork is so juicy, I love it. I recommend doing a shrimp and steak burrito at least once too. They still pack your burrito if you opt for no rice...also nice. Lastly concerning the food, they definitely know how to make it spicy if you like spicy. I have been to a lot of Mexican places around here that really water down that aspect. I can't really speak for any of the other menu selections as I've never gotten anything but a burrito here. The seating is a little cramped, but I've always enjoyed sitting at a booth in the back because I feel like there's a lot of energy around me and it's a nice place to sit and chat with a friend after a busy day at school. And the TVs at every table are nice if you're alone. I can see how this set up is not for everyone though.

I can't say enough wonderful things about the food here. It's delicious. It's juicy. It's plentiful. It's cheap. It is a freakin' fabulous flavor festival for food fanatics. When I first had a Bajas burrito, I nearly wept thinking about all the time I had wasted--WASTED--eating at Chipotle. I've never looked back, and I never will. Oh, and all the toppings are included. You don't have to wonder if you can afford the guacamole: Just get it. And it's wonderful, by the way. I spit on your grave, Chipotle. Eat at Bajas.

I went on a friday night with a few friends it was packed because everyone in town goes there late night, we couldn`t get a seat though but there are a few booths in the back and a couple of tables for 2 in the front by the door. The line was out the door but it moved extremely fast because it`s so fast paced there. I had one of the burritos and it was honestly "The best burrito I have ever eaten" No lie, and it was only $5.99 and the thing was HUGEE completely filled me up and I`m a big guy. Great Price, Greater Taste. Highly Recommend p.s I havent tried the steak and cheese but I hear they are great.

Baja's is a pretty solid staple on Thayer. If you live on college hill without a car, most of the thayer street joints lose their hype pretty quickly, especially when they're overpriced. Baja's will definitely stifle the 1:00AM cravings for burritos or nachos, and their philly cheesesteaks are solid too. Good food for a good price. The only things I don't like about this place is that they don't give you free water and that a philly cheesesteak comes with fries for an extra dollar, but half the time they just charge you another dollar and give you the fries even if you didn't ask for them. If they're going to do that, at least change the menu so that fries aren't an add-on.

Okay, so first of all, this ice cream thing is news to me. I come to Baja when I want an East Side burrito...and I choose it over its trendier, slicker, chain-operated cousin up the road... Prices are fine...and the selection of toppings rivals said cousin up the road. The burrito men whip you in and out of there pretty quickly (although everyone behind the counter seems to be in perpetually grim moods). It's narrow, so prepare to be squished while you're ordering. The tables are in the back, but I rarely stay to eat there. It tastes just as good in my apartment five blocks away. Everything is fresh and tasty, and this is definitely my go-to for takeout on Thayer. While I normally go for chicken in the burrito, I've gone entirely vegetarian lately, and it's all so good, I didn't even miss the meat. Just a few concerns: Could you have given patrons just a few more inches to move? Why is everyone so dour? Seriously, people, how did I miss the memo about the free ice cream?

THIS IS THE BEST MEXICAN FOOD IN THE WORLD! I have never been more obsessed with a place like this one. Great price, great food, and quick and fast. Get the shrimp quesidilla!

2nd time going there, went for a late lunch. 1st visit was an ok burrito late at night. Person who took my order was a complete ass. He tried to add fries to my order without me ever mentioning them, failed to mention where to get my beverage(self-serve there apparently) and was extremely rude from the moment I placed my order. Ordered an "original philly cheese steak" and was given an over-salted, overcooked pile of steak with american cheese on it, served on soggy bread that tasted like it had been previously frozen. Never going there again, prices weren't good, food was below average, customer service was terrible *edit- sign said free frozen yogurt or ice cream, when asked the jerk at the counter said the machines have been out of service for both for a while... he offered nothing in place of it, no apology. asked why sign was still up, said they haven't bothered to take it down...

Not-very-important update ahead: The food is good but not 5-star-worthy, but I was definitely onto something with the service. :) I wandered in, wanting to bake tortilla chips, so instead of taking a Zipcar to a grocery store, I figured I'd try to buy some tortillas off of Baja's. They were very nice and charged me under $3 for a huge stack of corn tortillas. And they threw in some cilantro (I'm pretty sure) for free because I asked nicely. Viva Baja's indeed.

Whenever I am on this side of town, I am suddenly in the mood for a carnitas burrito with rice, cheese and extra hot sauce. You can load up the burrito with everything and the kitchen sink (see the photos of the hot/cold table) but I prefer to go simple. It's clean and everything has always been muy tasty and fresh. If you like shrimp and steak in a burrito, it's a solid bet. Protip: Parking on Thayer is a pain so drive by the place first (it's on the left side of the street) then try the side streets.

I had a bit of a hankerin for a cheese steak. Lo and behold there was one on Thayer. Now a cheesesteak outside of Philly, I had very very low expectations. So I tried to make it easy on them. Not a whole lot of toppings, no crazy versions (like a pizza steak). When I got it, it was actually fairly good. Not too too greasy. Also the sandwich meat was shaved fairly well. Up here in New England, they don't get the meat shaved right for some reason. Also, many places don't know how to correctly cook a cheesesteak. You need to throw that bun right on the griddle and grill it! Their fries actually are what set them apart from just a sandwich place. Baja cooks them just right, getting them crunchy on the outside but nice and soft inside. You'd be surprised how many places can't perfect that. Their selection of food is actually pretty nice for a sandwich/tex mex place. I want to go back just to get their fries again.

Baja's is college Mexican at its best. Is it the BEST I've ever had? Probably not. If anyone's ever had Salsarita's or been to Texas, there's better Mexican out there. For New England, though, Baja's is fresh, satisfying, and affordable. I love that the toppings are unlimited without distinction between run-of-the-mill salsa or "premium" guacamole. They even have a really well-seasoned fish taco freshly grilled upon ordering. Ironically, the Philly Cheesesteaks are also delightfully random and tasty. As far as food goes, my only complaint is that the chips are a little mundane and lack the fresh and crisp texture that you would expect from an esteemed Mexican establishment. Why are they circles and not triangles? Why do they taste like they come out of bulk generic-brand bags? Service is unbeatable. One of my favorite baristas at Baja's always dishes out little cups of complimentary ice cream. They once ran out of plastic cups for water so another barista washed his personal water cup and offered it to me. Baja's has fresh and satisfying food albeit ordinary chips, wonderful service, and a classic college-Mex feel. Thumbs up most def.

Ordered to-go and got a taco salad! Haven't had a taco salad this good since I was in Florida. The space you have to stand while you order your food isn't the biggest but who really cares about that at the end of the day. Food was good, the guy even put my gf's burrito on the grill at her request with no attitude or anything.

Fast, delicious food with reasonable prices. My biggest pet peeve of this place is the set up when ordering. The first station is for burritos, quesadillas, or tacos and you immediately go up to there and order and pay at the last station. However, if you're ordering any type of sub or salad or anything of that sort you have to go to the last station to order and pay. This definitely gets confusing is there's a ton of people in the place!

While trying to decide what to eat while on Thayer,I decided to stop in Bajas. After seeing the bright sign and festive decor from the out side i figurd here would be a good place to eat, yes i did judge a book or in this case a restaurant by its store front but once I saw all the food options and got to try the food I was not dissapointed with the contents of the restaurant. I chose the shrimp quesadilla, which was really good and came with salsa, salad, and sour cream in the side. My friend tried the pulled pork dinner meal which was delicious and a great value, the pork was perfectly simmered and the meal came with plenty of food. Over all this was a cute little mexican place with lovely decor, good service, and good food this place is def worth checking out.

Now I wouldn't say they have authentic Mexican. But this joint reminds me to baja fresh... just a tiny, non-chainny version. This spot is tiny! Nevertheless you can get a mighty burritos, quesadillas, warpped fajitas, taco salad ,soft/hard tacos, tex-mex dinner combos, bugers, hot dogs, wings, philly cheese steak and even a garden salad. WOW they have everything! At the moment, I am on a Mexican high... need to try everything Mexican! So I got the pork burrito (no it's not el pastor), with refried beans, cilantro, sauteed onions, rice, shredded cheese, guacamole and sour cream. I also had a jarritos to wash it all down. Now, it's not amazing awesome... just simply good and filling... ideal for a typical college student. 10 bucks = full; unless you are a mega beast... i love the fact that they are open till 2am... :)

The BEST burrito place in Rhode Island. The guys there are top notch and the food is just incredible. Super cheap, quick and the least hassle of all the restaurants on Thayer street. You must try this place! I recommend the wheat burrito with grilled chicken or pork and shrimp. You can have ANY topping! I have them make mine super huge and they have yet to tell me it's too big!

Imagine a tastier, cheaper, fresher version of Chipotle with more options-one where you don't have to pay $1.50 for a measly scoop of guacamole. That's this place. My family and I love it here. Its a really fun and great spot to get a quick meal when you're walking around Thayer. There's really something for everyone. Philly Cheesesteaks, Nachos, Taco Salads, etc. And, like I said, all the toppings are free, including the guacamole. Say what?! The first time I came here I tried the Philly Cheesesteak, and it was just OK. Pretty average, and really under-seasoned, but if I a craving hit, it would suffice. I recently had a quesadilla with carnitas, refried beans, and cheese. OHMYGoodness. So. Good. Split some loaded nachos with the family (beef, cheese, sour cream, guacamole, rice, the kitchen sink.) really good, but I thought the beef was super salty. But that quesadilla, seriously. Their soda is really good. I know that sounds weird, but haven't you ever been somewhere and their soda from the machine is flat? It kind of stinks, doesn't it? Their soda is perfectly carbonated. Laugh if you will, but it's true. The guys on the line aren't mean, but aren't particularly friendly, but its Thayer Street, they're always super busy, and it's a burrito joint. So I guess it all depends on your expectations. If you want servers who act like your best friend, this probably isn't the place for you. Only thing that I hate is that the walkway is so narrow. You can't walk through without accidentally bumping into at least 3 people at any given time. So my recommendation would be go for the Mexican style food (QUESADILLAS) before you go for the Philly steaks, you won't be sorry. Stop in for a bite and I think you'll become a fan as quick as I did!

Really great selection of toppings, everything is FRESH, and the price is unbeatable. Most places charge extra for guacamole, but at Baja's you can put anything imaginable on your taco/burrito/quesadilla/etc. for a flat price. The decor is really funky and I enjoy the mini flat screen TV's at each table (I just wish they would give us a remote!). And I LOVE that they're open until 2am :)

A huge meal, low price Don't ask, all toppings are free Froyo with your food Man, talk about carrying a burrito baby around. The fully customizeable burritos from here are not only enormous, but all the ingredients are so fresh and crisp (where applicable) that you probably won't want to put the thing down until it's all gone. Definitely don't figure on any productive activity after lunch here. Oh yeah, and they're open from 10:00 am-2:00am. Note that bars generally close at 1am, and burritos are a great late night eat. Just sayin'. On the burrito (white or wheat wrap), all the 'extras' are included in the flat cost of $5.99, so feel free to load up with as much stuff as you like. All the normal options are there, but I'd definitely reccomend the carnitas. It falls apart without them cutting it, and has a ton of flavor even through all the toppings. A nitpicky thing I always notice that pleased me here is that when they serve the beans they make sure to drain them before slopping them onto the wrap. Small I know, but it helps at the tail end of your meal when you're not getting 'burrito juice' all over your hands and forearms as the wet wrap disintegrates into mush. The cheesesteak is definitely Philly style, closer to the "real thing" than most other places, but sitll not quite there. The bread is a bit to flaky for my liking, and as unhealthy as it is, the meat just doesn't have enough fat and grease to really reflect when I seek in a cheesesteak. On the rest of the menu, the grilled steak dinner combo tops out at $10, so nothing here will really put a damper on the wallet. Perfect for a college area, and for anyone in the area looking to save some scarole. The interior is uncredibly narrow, and seating for more than 2 can be difficult. The upside is it's quite clean inside, and the bussers take care to make the rounds frequently to pick up your mess. In the case mess we usually use the indefinite article "a" mess, but they'll take your trash right out from under you so it's quite clearly your mess The small televisions at each table seem like a bit of overkill for a place that doesn't serve alcohol. Instead of watching TV, score a table outside in the springtime, bring your sunglasses, and enjoy the scenery.
