I have been to a lot of Italian restaurants in RI and Mario's has THE BEST food around. Chicken parm cannot be beat! The vinegar pepper pork chops are out of this world. Never had a bad meal and have visited a lot. Try the pasta fagoli if they have it on special.

First let me say that I would have given Mario's 4 to 4.5 stars if it wasn't for all the salt. the staff is five star, excellent job. our waitress came over with fresh local Italian bread, olive oil infused with crushed red pepper and fresh grated parm for dipping. next we had the steamed little necks in an olive oil wine sauce. very good but way to much salt. for our dinner my wife and I both ordered the chicken sorrrento. very good, eggplant could be thicker and again just to much salt. I think if I go back I am going to tell them light on the salt. its a shame such a nice little place, but wow with the salt

This could be one of the most underrated Italian restaurants in Rhode Island. When you drive by it really doesn't look like a restaurant. The place is very small which is usually a good sign. I had baked stuffed scallops and they were the most perfectly cooked version I have ever had. My wife had an awesome chicken and eggplant dish that was really delicious. This is an old Italian style restaurant so you the service was a bit to be desired, but the food was so fresh and delicious that it didn't matter. The servers and the owner, who is the chef, are very loud but it's part of the experience. Another tip, try the sangria, it is great. Try this place out, it is small neighborhood gem. Thanks

I have been to Mario's on a few occasions. As in a baseball game, 3 strikes you are out. The bar tender could care less if u are there or not. She has zero personality. The bar is nice, clean, cozy. Portions are very large and the food is fresh. The only problems is the "SALT" omg..........the chef must have no taste buds. The food burned my mouth and my dates mouth from all the salt. The food is ok. Being in Knightsville, you must compete with so many superb restaurants. Eliminating 1/2 the salt would be a start. Chef also uses alot of butter. IF you dont like butter or salt, go elsewhere. If you want to be greeted or even acknowledged by an owner or a bartender with a little personality and gratitude that your spending money in their restaurant, , go elsewhere. If you want a thank you for the 25% tip you left, go elsewhere. From now on we will go elsewhere.

Been to this restaurant a few times over the years, the food is excellent and plenty of it....and the prices are reasonable...but I stopped going because of the owners wife's attitude....she acts like shes doing you a favor by serving you, and by no means goes out of her way....one time I asked her to split the bill, and she made such a big deal about it......She needs a lesson in customer service....maybe if her attitude was better she'd get more business....I know I would go more, cause the food is very good, and that's the only reason I gave it 2 stars, but there's too many restaurants in this state to limit yourself to ones with poor service, and customer appreciation no matter how good the food is....

You almost drive right by this place in Knightsville. It is small, but they have two tables at least which can accommodate parties of 6-8. I ordered the Mario's veal and it was tender, generously sized and delicious. Flavorful chunks of mozzarella and prosciutto. The presentation was excellent. A great place for a romantic date as long as your neighbors aren't too feisty because it's so small inside. Meals range from $16-20 and appetizers are $10. The pasta dishes are huge and you will probably take some to go home with.

I can't believe I'm only the second person to review this place. The food is prepared well, delicious and very fairly priced. The portions are also generous. I've been twice and sat at the bar each time. The size is small but it's definitely a neighborhood gem.

In all honesty here I have dined at Mario's many, many times....usually ordering the same things....tonight I had the special, Tilapia! It was amazing. Served with a seafood stuffing on a bed of risotto . If you are reading this review and asking yourself where to dine, do yourself a favor and go to Mario's! Always yummy, try the veal or Chicken Parmigiana and a must have is the Calamari Balsamic. Mario's presentations are splendid and the portions are very generous.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
