You know, I think if I got a bad enough craving, I might find myself taking the 2 hour trek to Tannersville just for a chicken cheesesteak and a milkshake. HOLY CRAP that cheesesteak was amazing! Make sure you ask for it Deluxe, otherwise you won't get the peppers and onions. My friends all agreed. We concluded that the secret was in the bread. Next time, I'm going to ask who they get their rolls from and go and make friends with that guy. The only thing that was disappointing was that they were all out of certain menu items that we tried to order, and it was way too early in the day to have run out of so many things. They didn't have any soups when I was there, which was disappointing on a chilly, fall afternoon, especially since they had a handmade sign in the window that said "Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup" and I reeeeally wanted some chicken soup. Also my friend tried to order a Churro and was told they had none.. and there was something else they didn't have, but I can't remember. Yes, the ice cream is Turkey Hill, but they also have soft serve, including seasonal flavors like pumpkin, and they give you huge portions for more than reasonable prices! This is a take-out kind of place. There is no indoor seating, however they have a bathroom for the public and several large picnic tables on the side of the building. This will definitely be a yearly stop for me during my Fall visits to the Poconos.

This food joint looks so cool. Their place looks so vintage & their food looks so good. Their ice cream is unbelievable. For $1.70 you get a "single" scoop which looks more like 2 to me :p The employees are all very quick and very sweet. They have outdoor seating only which is okay for the summer but not the winter, minus 1 star for that. They also have a play area for the kids to play while you take a nice break and enjoy some cheese fries or a cone. This place is faaar & I really hope I get to come back again and try their food as well as different flavors of ice cream they have.

It's the 21st century. There is no excuse for cash only. Even food trucks have iPads or the square. Really get turned off by businesses that don't try to make buying their products convenient for their customers. Tried to stop Here for lunch while on vacation at Great Wolf down the road. No such luck, had no cash. So my local desire was squashed and we ended up with Friendlys down the road simply because they took cards. Sorry Gabels, you can maintain retro charm and still have a credit card machine.

Great little eatery. They serve almost everything you can think of. When you just want a quick snack this is the right place to check out. Pizza, hotdog, burger, chicken tender, Philly steak, fried chicken, gyro, salad, coffee, ice cream and etc. Gabel is great if you happen to shop at the Crossing and you want to try something other than fast food chain restaurants. Cash only!

Cute place, pretty decent food for a place that looks like a vintage Dairy Queen. Most food options are meat, as to be expected, but they also have veggie burgers and grilled cheese (and fries, of course!). I bet nothing is under 500 calories. Love the playground-- wish there were less kids around so I could play on it, haha. Service can get pretty backed up, but this place is really one of a kind and that makes it worth it. Also, where else are you going to eat in Tannersville?

We had a great meal at Gabel's. The cheesesteaks were fantastic. My daughter said she wants to come back just for them when we are in Pa again. We also has really good curly fries and onion rings. The shakes were great. The service was quick and friendly.

The ice cream is delicious and the dessert specials are really creative, but the soft-serve is a grossly huge serving and not the best insofar as flavor. Milkshakes and ice cream flavors make up for the so-so soft-serve. The funnel cake is good, but not great--too spongy for my taste. The parking lot never seems to have enough space during the summer, it's so popular. Not a fan of the service--you absolutely have to know your order when you get up there, don't ask too many questions, don't make any changes, don't have your kid nagging you while you order. They have no patience for customer service. They do have a great little playground for people to wait for their food and so kids can let off steam instead of crying and whining in line. That's awesome. And they have some outdoor seating, but they just need more space to work with!

I too have trekked long distances just to come here to eat. What a great stand. Yum!

Gabel's is a good spot for cheap eats. Tried the super chili dog, the pierogies, pork bbq on a bun, and a vanilla banana split, which were all pretty good. Portion sizes are bigger than what I had initially expected, especially at those prices.

I've been here before and they were so slow in preparing the food that I was hesitant to go back, but we went again anyway. This time the food didnt take very long, and it tasted pretty good, but I made the mistake of ordering a vanilla milkshake just before leaving. I was already on the road when I realized it was UNRECOGNIZABLE as vanilla ice cream. I hope it wasn't one of those non-dairy oil and sugar mixes. I dont know what it was but I will never order that again.

This place is very close to the late Taste Bud. It is in fact NOT the Taste Bud, but it was next to it. I woke up three weeks after the Taste Bud closed and saw this place. I got excited because I thought it was the Taste Bud. I became suspicious when some high school teeny bopper took my order instead of Tommy. When they told me to stop mumbling numbers because I couldn't play the lotto there, I took a moment to examine my surroundings and came to the conclusion that this place had replaced the Taste Bud. After asking around, I found out that apparently this place was here all along, I just never noticed it (who would, with the Taste Bud next door?). After the initial shock and disappointment, I ordered a chili dog and a 'Moose Tracks' ice cream cone. The food was decent but misleading. Firstly there was only one hot dog in my chili dog, I've never had one with less than three. Secondly, Ive skinned and grilled many a moose durning my trips to Newfoundland so I know a few things about moose. I did not taste the slightest hint of moose in my first, second, or third cones of the flavor. Disappointing. I give it three stars because it reminds me of the Taste Bud.

I love this place. It has a great little park for the kids to play on and everything I have had has been good. One thing I hate is that they are cash only :/

Fiancee and I took a post-bar trip to Poconos. I thought I was going to get something akin to Bassets in Reading Terminal. Something homemade, and special. Not really. Gabel's Ice Cream serves Turkey Hill Ice Cream...something I can get at the local supermarket. The place look like the first and old McDonald's...a kickback to the 50s. There's a huge playground for kids, and very little parking space. Redeeming factor? Inexpensive and HUGE servings of ice cream. My fiancee and I shared a medium ice cream, and it was easily a large or more in New York City. This thing was HUGE! And, for $2.60? You can't beat the price. On another note, I wonder if people are predisposed to think I speak with a foreign accent. I asked for a "Dutch Chocolate", which was what it was called on the menu...but the girl had such a hard time understanding me. Oh well...oh, and she kind of wigged a little when I gave her a $20, she apologized though, and stated it was because she didn't have anything but singles and didn't want to give my change in only singles. No problem. Once here is enough. Unless, I really wanted a hotdog or milkshake.

Stopped by here after eating at Longhorn Steakhouse while staying at Great Wolf Lodge. Not impressed. We only ate ice cream which was run of the mill. I was thinking they would have homemade ice cream but it's Turkey Hill which can be bought in a grocery store. Service was adequate but could have been better. I guess when you live in the Land that Time Forgot this is the best you get. Oh I forgot to mention they only accept cash. It must go with the derelict landscape on Rt. 611.

I love this place! The food is awesome ... their burgers are delicious ... and curly fries with gravy and cheese are so awful for you but so delicious! If you have kids this is a great place to take them for some food or ice cream ... they have a play ground! Only con is they do not have a credit card machine and really need to get with the times...

Great ice cream and fast food the rivals the big names. Too bad it's seasonal. Go before they close for the year.

Review for Ice Cream only. Was expecting something else, I was hoping for HomeMade Ice Cream. But the Ben and Jerry's Black Cherry was awesome. I just feel like it's no different than a supermarket, selling name brand ice cream.
