I thought the food and service was excellent! Drove out of the way and was worth the detour.. friendly and prompt service. . You will be happy with the food and dining exprrience at Comptons! Go there !!!

OK I have to say they have the best deal in the morning for breakfast for under $5 you get 2 pancakes, toast, hash browns, 2 strips of bacon and sausage and 2 eggs. Not a bad deal at all! The only complaint I have is the owner's yelling! So do not sit by the kitchen because it distracts your dining experience. The service is great, despite them getting yelled at.

Talk about more pancakes for your money! This place was so good- I wanted to take some back to my room but because pancakes taste better fresh off the grill- I didn't! Love this place and will go back!

It was cool, I would go again if in town maybe, but I may try some where else

Arrived after diving 2 hours to the area with 2 kids. Hostess was absolutely disgusting. I walk in with my three year old and ten month old and ask about the wait. She says - don't know. Could be an hour could be less- first of All what kind of answer is that??? After a few minutes our friends arrived who have s six month old and we were discussing whether of not to wait. Hostess says to my husband- SO ARE YOU STAYING OR NOT??? heck no I'm not with your nasty attitude. I'll take my money elsewhere. And they call us New Yorkers rude. This woman deserved a slap treating potential customers that way. Someone should read her the guarantee posted on the restaurants website.

This place would have gotten 5 stars (food was delicious and our waitress was very attentive) however i deducted a point for the management- The manager, or head waitress loudly discussed the other waitress' personal issues, as well as informed this poor waitress that there's plenty of people who want her job so if she's going to move she should know now. It was rude and awkward. Bring the girl to the side and discuss this matter. Also, another waitress LITERALLY started raising her voice about the little milk that was left in the fridge, then took the carton and SLAMMED it down the floor. Disturbing not only the patrons, but the other staff members. And the same head waitress did NOTHING. What the hell??? So inappropriate. So RUDE! Otherwise, food is crazy cheap and delicious. Just sit towards the back so you don't have to listen to any petty drama.

Traveled from Manhattan for Memorial Day weekend. Party of 8 including 2 toddlers and an infant makes it difficult to enjoy any restaurant, but our breakfast here including steak and eggs, pancakes and waffles really hit the spot, was a good value, and the staff was very friendly. Will most certainly pass by here again next year!

have eaten here a few times now being there's not many breakfast places in the area. food is good, but the last time we were in there you could hear (I think the cook?) someone screaming at someone else in the kitchen. immediate and total "turn off" for both me and my gf. even the people at the next table were talking about it. if it were my place and I was paying someone who screamed like that, they'd be the first thing smoking out the door. if it was an owner....they should really find a new business. I know people have bad days and all, but ruining a otherwise great breakfast with your screaming just doesn't "cut it" with us.

I thought this place was good but not great. There aren't to many choices in the area. The prices were VERY reasonable. I got the eggs Benedict. The English muffin was on the stale side. Could have been nuked and was getting hard. My sister got a feta cheese and tomato omelet that was pretty tasty. The coffee was good and despite the place being PACKED the service was great. I will try again when I'm back in the area. Timing is everything at this place, it was busy!

I've never had a bad experience or meal here. The servers are awesome and food is fresh. This is my go to place for breakfast.

Service is outstanding, from the support staff to the serving staff. My waitress was just eager to please. My eggs were soft which outside of NY is unheard of! Great morning, great breakfast....

This isn't a 4 star location by far and I will tell you why. The entrance of the place is managed very poorly. (Not trying to discriminate I am Hispanic myself) There is a small stubby Hispanic looking lady who seems to be running the show and all she did while we were there was yell and scream and cuss her life away. First she was complaining about someone taking a cigarette break and how she hasn't gone to the bathroom in 5 hours and how everything is "bs" and how she's the "boss". I feel badly if she is in some type of ownership of this place because it's a nice place. The service once we were seated was ok, about average. The only reason this location receives a 1 star critique is because of the pancakes. They were really good and cannot deny that. But if you don't mind hearing yelling and screaming and constant complaining from the front of the place and poor professionalism ethics, by all means come visit this place. Oh and by the way, if you like long curly hair inside your omelette as well, you should def pay this place a visit !

Very pleased with this choice. I am not a fan of diners and this is close to a diner. With that said I do recommend this restaurant. The food was very good. I had the Jerk chicken with fries. I tried to be healthy and not eat the bun. But the bun was so good I had to eat half, lol. The fries were crunchy and delicious. My husband had a breakfast special and enjoyed it. The prices were very reasonable and you got a lot of food. Parking is extremely tight so come in a small vehicle. I recommend this restaurant!

    (5)
  • Steve A.

As others mentioned a bit of a wait but well worth it. We had an omelette, home fries, bagel, and French toast, all were delicious and very reasonably priced.

  • Derek S.

Weekday morning specials mean you can get more than enough food for under $10, and the quality is fantastic. The pancakes are perfect, potato pancakes remind me of Germany, and everything else is fantastic. Bottomless coffee as expected, and a great menu selection to boot, the only complaint here is the occasionally impatient servers, sometimes bordering on rude. It's not just me, this has happened to multiple friends of mine. It might just be that they're college kids, but the servers seem simply annoyed that they're even there. Other than that, Comptons is an exceptional breakfast joint (I never get anything other than breakfast food at a breakfast place).

I used to eat here all the time when I lived in East. Stroudsburg. Their food is delicious and reasonable. I want to bring my hubby here, (maybe this Friday or on Sunday). I am craving some of their Strawberry Pancakes, or Strawberry French Toast w/ Cheese Eggs, Home-Fries, Bacon, Sausage and Toast. See you real soon.....

I've always been happy with this place. I've been coming here for years. Pancakes are good, but since I stopped eating wheat I now stick to omelets. My favorite is the corned beef stuffed omelet. I had the garden stuffed omelet today and it was good but not great. I will go back to my standby next time. Potatoes are also good. I recommend Comptons to anyone looking for a big, cheap, good breakfast.

  • Keith B.

The food is plentiful for the price. The Double Triple Play is a lot of food for $4.25. The service is OK, but we had to argue with the waiter whether we needed a coupon for the $4.25. He insisted, so I had to go to the car to get the coupon. Their website and the sign on the wall disagreed. Overall, for $4.25 + coffee ($2) it is well worth it for a tasty breakfast.

    (4)
  • Paul L.

I've come here a bunch for the double triple play, great value breakfast meal. Do not order the Eggs Benedict. Classic brunch menu item and they cannot get it right. Service was awesome, very attentive nice people. Coffee was also below average; watered down burnt taste to it. If you got a big party come here for breakfast otherwise you can find better places.

  • Lloyd P.

Ok so the advertised special at Great Wolf Lodge room book is very outdated as it said a full breakfast at Comptons was 2.65 per person. Should have known better before we took a drive. It was 4.25 per person. Oh but wait...not clear that we had to also buy a 2 dollar per person drink and so actual cost is 6.25 per person for a decent but not great 2 eggs 2 bacon 2 sausage 2 pancake and hash potatoes and toast and drink (coffee was horrific). Service nice enough. Just ended up spending twice what I had planned but still saved from Great Wolf Lodge breakfast.

I would give it less stars if I could! I have been going to comptons for years and have never had an experience like today! The food was great but the nasty lady barking orders at her employees and being rude to customers in the front of the restaurant is what ruined it! How could anyone want to work for a woman who just yells and seemed to lack any ability to communicate with her employees like they were people! It sounded more like she was yelling at her dogs!

My husband and I were visiting the Stroudsburg area as a possible place to move to. On our last day, we stopped in Compton's Pancake House. This place is better than IHOP, Denny's, and pretty much any chain breakfast-type restaurant. We both ate for less than $12. And let me tell you... we ate GOOD!!!!! This marked the end of our trip and we decided this area would be perfect for us. Not only is Stroudsburg nice and affordable... but also because it has a place that reminds us of the diners we're used to eating at on Long Island. Bravo, Compton's Pancake House! Bravo!

Favorite place to eat breakfast when I'm in PA. Beats any breakfast spot anywhere. I specialize in eating breakfast. And prices are great. Plus they have crazy variety of pancakes and southern classics.

  • Tom A.

Super budget breakfasts or lunches. Friendly, quick turn around and good. Eggs, pancakes or omelets are what I usually get. Sandwiches and lunch fare also available. Beware, only open until 3pm or maybe 4. Not a dinner place.

  • Mistaiikonz S.

We won't be going back there ever again!!! We was over charged by almost $20 dollars. The waiter couldn't explain fully why we was charged all these extra fees. I understand the gratuity part, but don't overcharge me. The food was ok....but when you overcharge ppl just understand you just lost us as customers. Waffle house, ihop, perkins, bailey's and even golden corral didn't charge us the amount for a family of 6. I felt like we was taken advantage of....I'm just saying.

Finally able to just walk in instead of waiting in line for over an hour. This place lived up to its reputation. Big portions, fluffy and light pancakes, scrambled eggs cooked to perfection ... This was Vanessa's (the waitress) last week too after several years on the job. Too bad too, she is fun and cheerful -- good luck at your new job! Parking is limited. Pancakes with strawberry's is yumm-o!

  • Kaye S.

We were in town for the weekend and used Yelp to find somewhere to eat for breakfast and this one's definitely a winner! We had three little children with 3 adults and they were able to accommodate us with no problem. They have a very big menu for breakfast and the kids love the chocolate chip pancakes. Food and service was great! Cream chipped beef isn't as great as it should be according to my husband who grew up in Texas, though.

    (4)
  • Lisa C.

Food is cheap, parking is very tight and food is tasteless!! I think so many people go here cause it's so cheap!! If it's a weekend you will have a long wait!

We're visiting the area and heard that Compton's was a good place to eat. Absolutely! There were 6 of us and we were all very pleased with the food (fast, tasty) and service (Iwona did an excellent job!). We're likely to go back again tomorrow.

Woke up that morning and the first words out of my mouth to my bf were "belgian waffle- now." Found this diner in PA during a New Years cabin stay and was very excited, but was let down. The belgian waffle was served cold with a big chunk of butter on top which obviously would not melt because of it. Its a pretty simple breakfast request so I ate it because I was hungry and wanted waffles, but learned that day that there is actually a difference in the texture and taste of belgian waffles between diners.

  • Leo K.

I wanted to love this place but really didn't I liked the vibe in the diner, the booths were large and there was a lot of space all around in the diner. I ordered the Eggs Benedict and home fries and cheesecake pancakes I am very picky about Eggs Benedict since I have had the pleasure of trying them in hundreds of brunch spots all over NY The eggs were a bit runny for my taste, and the hollandais was bit to watery, I also did not love the ham they used. The home fries were very plain and did not have much flavor at all, I basically drowned them in hot sauce The biggest redeeming thing about this place were the Cheesecake Pancakes. They were amazing! I could have eaten 3 plates of them easily. They had the perfect texture and were a tad creamy and not to sweet. Overall will probably not be back here, unless I had to be, but if I did have to come back, Cheesecake Pancakes will be a no brainer.

    (3)
  • Leo G.

Wow I love this place, my wife and I eat there every weekend. You have to try the steak and eggs and Compton famous stuffed omelet. My wife loves the pancakes and little one loves the French toast. He says it is the best French toast he ever had! Tip ask for there own hot sauce if you dare!

    (5)
  • Joyce P.

The breakfast could have been good if the service was better....to wait an hour for food when they didn't have a wait and the place wasn't even packed...I waited an hour, asked a waitress about my food and she came back and said "they are working on your food now," WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU'RE WORKING ON IT....it should be done already....get it together Compton's

  • Cameron H.

Umm, yeah!!! Having Perkins the day before, completely different experience... In looking up reviews, people said this was the place to go. For a full breakfast for 3.97, we were willing to give it a try. After arriving, we were seated immediately. Per another site, people recommended Vanessa. Surprising enough, we received Vanessa as a waitress. The overall experience was great. Good food, an amazing waitress, cool ambiance. Can't want to go back next year.

  • Krista L.

Good solid diner food. Husband and I both had the special (2 pancakes, 2 slices of toast, 2 eggs, 2 sausage links, 2 pieces of bacon and hash browns). Probably one of the best "specials" I've had. Someone on here complained about the pancakes but I thought they were delicious--I only use butter on them so I can't vouch for the syrup quality. Between the two specials, three kid meals and drinks for all of us (drinks are extra) it came up to just under $25. Great deal if you ask me. The only negative is the parking--while there are plenty of spots they're so narrow, it was kind of hard to squeeze out of the lot when we were done.

  • Diva T.

Fantastic food! The Pancakes are the best for miles around. I would frequent the diner often when I lived in the area. The atmosphere is a bit divey, but has clean and tasty food for a reasonable price. Staff can get loud, but they run a tight ship. The owner is no nonsense, but very friendly. The staff runs like a family and remembers you when you re-visit. Highly recommended for breakfast.

    (5)
  • Matt K.

Good food at really great prices. Got the Triple Play for $6.95 and left quite full. Pancakes were the highlight of the meal, so go with those over the other breakfast food if that's your thing.

    (4)
  • Heather K.

I do not understand the hype. The service was fine (although waitress was overwhelmed), and the sausage links were good, but otherwise nothing else to praise. The pancakes would have been more flavorful had they come straight out of a box. The syrup provided is so watered down it had no flavor. The coffee was bitter and required four sugars to be drinkable, although we finally just switched to water For two adults and two children (ages 2 and 8- they split one meal) the cost was $42. We were there on Columbus Day, so none of the M-F specials applied. We are usually big fans of local fare, but this one was a miss!

    (2)
  • Bella Y.

Best breakfast place in town! The staff there are generally friendly and pleasant. The prices are very affordable and it gets packed on the weekends. You must try their famous stuffed omelet with their homemade hot sauce. They also sell the hot sauce for $2.95 and it's fresh. Our waitress told us the owner makes them on regular basis since it's so popular. The pancakes and waffles are standard there. I haven't tried anything else there besides breakfast but the stuffed omelets are must try!

  • Cen W.

This place gives you that small town feel, yet it's right next to the high way, convenient location. Good food, good price, coffee is always fresh (big plus in my book). Waitress knows her regulars on first name basis, though I would really recommend her to lower her voice a notch, just a little bit lower when talking to her customers. Because we can hear EVERYTHING she's saying, and it's a bit awkward. Other than that, we love the place.

    (5)
  • Phil R.

Simple, plain vanilla diner - we're not talking gormet here, but the omelets and pancakes were quite tasty. I don't expect much with diner food, but Compton surprised me with this one. Service is decent and coffee is nothing to write home about, but I really enjoyed my breakfast. Going back again today.

  • Shannon M.

While attending ESU I went here quite often, almost always for breakfast. Very good food with very reasonable prices. Waitresses were always very reasonable and the food never took that long to come out. They are also very good with splitting checks, just make sure you tell them before you order. Close to campus and close to route 80.

  • Chrissy C.

Basic diner-type location, fast service and very inexpensive tasty breakfast. Pancakes have a different taste and smell as soon as they come to the table. Vanilla possibly? Very good meal!

    (4)
  • Tiff B.

The Pancakes are good. Staff is super friendly. Not a good place for lunch. This was my third time here and the food was just ok. Their servings are very small for both breakfast and lunch. It is a pancake house but its also a diner. I love diner food BUT NOT from here. I ordered a cheese burger with fries (I've never had a bad burger from a diner) It was a BUBBA BURGER!!! not a fresh juicy meat patty. Bubba Burgers are the frozen flat patties in the freezer aisle. It was dry, rubbery and not something you serve in a restaurant. It came with a side of 11 french fries. Not worth the money. Im fair when it comes to ratings but the food doesn't make this place its the staff. Three times are enough to know i will not be back here with my family.

    (2)
  • Andi S.

Food was good, service was very good. Why only four stars? They do not use genuine maple syrup, but instead, they use "pancake syrup", which is chock full of chemicals, as it is not a real food. If they start offering pure maple syrup (I don't even mind paying a little extra for it) I will then change my review to add another star.

Heard a lot about this place, so I finally stopped by after working all night at a local supermarket. Chelsea (my server ) was pleasant and efficient even on a busy morning. The French vanilla cappuccino was a little heavy on the whipped cream but was still very enjoyable, and my egg/pancake special arrived at my table hot and expertly prepared. Parking can be an issue and I was wishing the door didn't squeak so loudly whenever customers came or went, but those are pretty minor quibbles when you consider the amazing prices and excellent food quality. A word of advice: come in small groups, as it would seem that the staff is not prepared for a large party all at once. Still, a great pancake house for the price.

  • Sam A.

Great breakfast special. Substitute French toast for pancakes no extra charge. Will be back....

  • Mike C.

Double triple play breakfast for 7 dollars! Eggs, toast, bacon, sausage, hash browns and pancakes all approved, five stars. Great home made meal for a road trip back to New York. Good coffee, good people.

  • TRISHA C.

I went with my friends during our PA trip. Wooo.... this place was great. Most of us ordered pancakes (of course) and few of us had steak and french toasts. Funny, one of the guys had two orders, then you can tell how good this place is. Everyone finished their plates and so fulfillment. Also, the strawberry saurce was yummm~~~~~ But too bad this place is little far from me. =[

  • Don P.

I don't understand all the great reviews of this place. When you walk in, the smell of old grease torments your nose. When 3 out of 5 of us asked for replacement coffee, the waitress asked, "does it taste burnt again?". The food was reminiscent of old dirty grills. I give it one star because the wait staff was attentive and nice. Sorry, but we won't be back.

    (1)
  • Sadie V.

Pretty good food/ service...the really cheap prices is what draws people in.

    (4)
  • Brigid K.

Fantastic food and service!! This was the best food and service we experienced in the Poconos, and it was the least expensive. Definitely a must-stop place for breakfast.

    (5)
  • Julie B.

We tried this place for breakfast while on vacation. My husband rated the pancakes as excellent. The only vegan item on the menu is the garden salad (ask for no hard boiled egg). Our waitress was great and read the salad dressing labels to make sure their vinegrette was vegan. I know that sounds like such a simple no-brainer thing to do for a customer, but you wouldn't believe how many places are disagreeable about doing that!

    (3)
  • Eugene O.

For the lack of options in the area this is a decent place for breakfast or lunch. Seems to be quite popular with the locals also. I was visiting a friend and we went here to eat breakfast Saturday morning. Service was good and attentive, the coffee was average. Bacon that we got had no taste and the eggs and the potatoes were swimming in oil. Prices are pretty decent here, and there is plenty of parking in the rear, not much in the front. I'd comeback here next time to try the pancakes and maybe an omelet hopefully with less grease.

    (3)
  • Jeffrey L.

We went there twice. Completely packed both times. Reminds me of a fantastic breakfast place we used to have near where I live. I want to travel back to the Poconos just because there are a few more items on the menu I want to try (I figured it would have been a bit much to order multiple breakfasts in the same sitting, as there were always people waiting to be seated). This is mostly good, old-school breakfast food, but done by somebody who cares about what they put out. I'm a bit of a foodie, but I appreciate a wide range of food, provided it is done with some skill and by someone who wants people to enjoy their experience. For instance, steak and eggs. I don't know why I ordered it. I've ordered it elsewhere, including Denny's, and the steak is usually very scrawny, coming from some animal that died of old age, and usually overcooked. Not here. No, not a prime cut or anything, but a proper thickness steak, cooked correctly to my specs. Juicy, tasty. My oldest son ordered it the next day, and I've never seen a plate clear as fast as it did with him. The next day, I ordered the chicken fried steak. Frequently, this item at other restaurants can end up quite dry - probably because it was cooked at too low a temperature then left to warm for hours under a heat lamp. Mine was clearly fresh, and fried up in a properly heated fryer. Again, quite juicy and tasty. Meat quality was also higher than I'm used to in a chicken fried steak. At our table we had other dishes like cheese steak omelet, cheesecake pancakes, corned beef hash. Everyone very much enjoyed it. I wanted to try the Eggs Benedict, because that is typically my go to breakfast. I'm glad I didn't in this case, because it might have caused me to never leave the Poconos. Then I'd lose my job, my house, and probably my wife and kids. Staff was really nice. Professional and pleasant. Prices are ridiculously low. The restaurant is named, I believe, after the owner's son. He should be very proud.

How this place has 4 stars is beyond me. Comptons is DISGUSTING. I would give it zero stars if I had the option. The chicken fried steak was suspect. The pancakes were super dry. The scrambled eggs and cheese had the most disgusting texture ever. How do you screw up scrambled eggs with cheese?? We asked our server if their corn beef hash was homemade, to which she replied that it wasn't. I then asked her if there was a good place around to eat breakfast. Here is her response: "We'll I definitely make the weekly 45 minute drive to IHOP. That place is so delicious." I guess that should have been an indication of what to expect. You have been warned.

    (1)
  • Tom F.

I would give zero stars if I was given the option. I have been to Compton's 3 or 4 times and the service was fine and food was good. This morning was a pathetically bad experience. I understand Sunday mornings around 11 are busy, but there is no excuse for waiting 45 minutes without any sort of explanation from the server. Once I received my food, my girlfriend had to wait another 10 minutes to receive hers. So as I waited like normal people do, my food got cold. Sadly, the highlight of my Sunday breakfast was when the bus staff took my plate of cold food and rubbery eggs away. Once again, I understand Sunday mornings are hectic and busy...but when everyone around you (that showed up 15 minutes after you arrived) receives their food and is half done before mine arrive, it's pretty bad. Zero stars for service, 1 for the quality of food, and 4 stars for the bus boy.
