I came here for my birthday, I got a 6 piece family meal with sweet patato fried mac and cheese and corn bread. MMmmmmmm!!!!! it was ALL good! I'm def coming back to try more stuff on the menu! big up for mamas!!

If you want authentic soul food in the Poconos, then go no further! Big Mama's reminds me of my grandmother's food. The fried chicken is absolutely delicious - very moist and seasoned to the bone! You will not be sorry.

4 Stars on my husband's behalf. He had the smothered pork chops and the potato salad. Outstanding he said. The potato salad was great. The fries were overcooked and not edible. The red velvet cake I brought him he devoured.. Great cake. No stars from me. The sweet potato pie was undercooked. My yams were yucky and the Mac & cheese was dry. 3 stars for cornbread.

Just moved in about a mile away and we finally got around to trying Big Mama's Soul Food. Had the ox-tail with Mac/Cheese and Spicy Collared Greens. SOOOO GOOOD! The Ox-tail was incredible and worth the price and the wait. The meat was juicy and tender and was delicious. Wife and I shared sweet potato fries and they were the best sweet potato fries we had ever had. They were cut a little on the thicker side and were dredged in breading and fried and were incredible! The co-owner that was there was really friendly (he used to tour as a performing artist with the Transiberian Orchestra!) and we will definitely be making it back to try everything else on the menu.

I love the food and setting. Great staff!!! For breakfast, make sure you try the fish and cheese grits. They are delicious.

I stopped in Big Mamma's the other day for lunch. Everything about this place is sharp and well put together. The staff is friendly and excited about what they do. Most importantly, the food is wonderful! I had the chicken & waffles - I'll definitely be back again for more.

We stopped in only after filling up on dinner at another restaurant simply because we didn't know this place existed. On the way home though, we figured let's try their desserts at least. Service was welcoming and very professional. Clean establishment. Oh, and back to the dessert: they actually gave me one of the sweet potato pies right from the oven... Still piping hot. Brought it back home and dug into it. I had to eat this slow in order to savor every bite! We will return, and this time, we're going all in!... I have to remind myself to wear my elastic pants though! If their entrees are anything like their dessert, we will certainly be satisfied!

Every time I passed by the sign that said "soul food" I couldn't help but wonder what they were serving. I finally had a chance to run in and see what this place was all about. I noticed in some other reviews they said it was very clean - thumbs up this is very true. It's not a large place but you can easily see that they take care of it and put a lot of time and effort into using the limited space. I'll start with the service - the lady at the counter was friendly and helped me figure out what I was going to eat - there were a number of items on the menu I had no idea about. I tried the ribs, I know, I didn't have the courage to jump into the uncharted waters of the menu I was unfamiliar with! The ribs were solid and seasoned well. The sides I had were the Mac & Cheese and the fries - you could tell that everything was freshly made and that makes a big difference. I was happy with the entire experience so will definitely give some other items a try in the future.

The food and the people are great! Last night we had turkey wings, ribs, and oxtail with Mac and cheese, candied yams, and the spicy collard greens. Everything was so yummy, that my hubby and I barely talked to each other because we were too busy stuffing our faces. We are back today to buy dinner to take home with us. The orange creme cake, peach cobbler, and lemon cake are delicious. Today we bought the coconut sea salt caramel and the banana pudding for dessert, I will update later on those. We will definitely be back!

Yes! This is what I'm talking about! We went to Big Mama's during a recent vacation because we'd heard so many great things about it. It did not disappoint! The staff is friendly and the food is spot on. All of it is good. My only regret is returning home without stopping for some more chicken *sigh*.

Wonderful atmosphere, clean, the young cashier that greeted us was friendly and helpful, great personality. We made our order and waited for about 10 mins for the food to be prepared which was not a problem because when it came to the table OMG, hot, delicious, delicious, delicious I recommend the fried chicken, bbq chicken, Mac n cheese collard Greens, sweet potato pie and orange cream cake was the best. I'm from Brooklyn so this was a wonderful surprise the get out here.

This place is the real deal, fried chicken and Mac and Cheese like I got in the south. The corn bread was the best I have ever had, ever! On the menu, oxtail, pigs feet and turkey wings. Do yourself a favor an try it out, you will not go away hungry ( big portions) and disappointed.

Its funny when I am in Stroudsburg - I don't think "this is the place to get GREAT soul food" ..but that has changed. Big Mama's and when I hear the name I think of Martin Lawrence or Tyler Perry in drag..is truly authentic home cooking. For people who don't know what "soul food" is...just go in and try ..here they do it right. I work with many restaurants and I can tell you this kitchen is clean and well maintained. The times I have been there, the staff is always friendly..sometime there may be a short wait to get your food, but it is soul food not fast food. So if you're thinking maybe?? ...just do it ..you will like it.

We eat out every Friday! Saw this place on Yelp and let me tell you it is a gem. Everything was delicious. We tried the pork chops and fish basket and a piece of chicken. So good fish was flaky, chicken juicy. What can I say but delicious. The sides are great large portions seasoned to perfection. The desserts looked fabulous and my mate had pineapple cake and loved it. I liked the potato salad so much I ordered a small side of it for desserts!!! I know but you haven't had it! Lol. The staff is very helpful and friendly. We got takeout for the next day for the kids. Wonderful find will be returning.

Now let me start... I have not tried it yet, but family beat me to the punch lol...they informed me that oy was worth a visit cause the food is GOOD! From the mac to the grits...you cant go wrong. So I will swing by when I head to P.A. trust that!!!

First time trying soul food for this northern girl, it was excellent. The food tasted like it came out of real home kitchen. The seating is limited, the staff is friendly. This place is a keeper, great food, right price, perfect portions. We'll be back!
