Their original Clifton Heights/Springfield Road location did not come up when searched...but they do have a satellite place in Springfield. That is how good their pizza is...they can afford to open a second place three nights a week. The spaces are for making pizza, not eating it. You can see the hard work, the worn surfaces, the employees warm from the ovens. Literally, the best pizza I have ever had. But you have to wait for it. You won't get "okay, 10 minutes" from these guys. Twenty to twenty five minimum. I watched them make it. First the dough is stretched and placed in the pan...then the dough is lined with slices of cheese, by hand, covering the entire surface. Then the sauce and then a sprinkle of more cheese. It is sweet and tangy...the perfect consistency. Because the cheese is on the bottom it does not slide off the top, burn the roof of your mouth, etc. Sweet basil in the sauce, the dough is fresh and just thick enough to bite into, but not too thick to be a mush. Everything is the correct combination and percentage of ingredients, in every bite. I took a friend, owner of his own pizza shop for 40 years, to Gaetano's. He watched them make the pie, spent 30 minutes sitting on the bench outside waiting for it. After his first piece, he noted "This may be the best pizza I have ever had" That kind of sums it up.

This is one of the best pizza places around. The white pizza is incredible and the traditional pizza with sausage is also out o this world. The hours are limited so call before you go.

I'll have to admit, this pizza is not for everyone. My kids did not care for it, and thought it had a funny taste, but I thought it was great. At first taste, I did think was different, but it was, probably, because of the fresh ingredients. I wasn't sure I liked it, but after about 5 minutes I was craving another piece. I agree with the original poster that you'll probably have to wait after you order one. At the original store on Springfield Rd, I had called and order in about 6pm on a Friday night, and they said, "OK, it'll be ready at 7:40." When I got there I could see why, patrons were waiting out the door, and the employees were working as hard as they could to meet demand. Make sure you plan ahead when you order.

I agree that Gaetano's is an acquired taste. I've only had it once, due to their hours mostly. First slice I thought was ok. By the third, though, I was convinced that it was delicious! Think I'll pick one up tomorrow night!!

Normally when it comes to pizza, my family orders from Renato's. It's good, it's always open, and it's nearby. However, every once in a while my dad's friend comes to visit and only then is when he will venture off the couch and go out to bring back the best food the Philadelphia area has to offer. This, my friends, is how I know Gaetano's. I've never been to the place, but whenever my father brings home some boxes of their delicious pies I thank the sweet lord it exists. This pizza is unlike anything you'll find elsewhere and it's insanely delicious because of it. My personal favorite is their clam pizza. A creamy mild sauce with salty, chewy little clam bits sprinkled over top. Pure pizza perfection.

The best pizza in the suburbs. It is served up Trenton style with slices of mozzarella cheese piled upon fresh made dough and topped with fresh tomatoe sauce, cooked in a pan to give a nice crisp crust. Messy but magnificent. Springfield is only open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday but mother store in Clifton Heights is open 7 days a week. A bonus at Clifton Heights is the Homemade pasta and sauce store along with all the great pizzas. Da bomb. It isn't like most pizzas you have had but if you love pizza you will go nowhere else once you find it.

All I can say is it's the best red pie ever. Usually busy. Only open through the weekend, but the sauce is something else.

Really enjoyed. The meats on their pizzas are top notch, tasty and well seasoned. Great crust, nice sauce

I absolutely love this pizza place! Nice, thick crust, homemade with love, and great flavor. I'm fairly certain I have tried all of their pies, but my favorite has to be the tomato pie. Cheeseless pizza, slathered with thick, slightly chunky, homemade sauce. It's a bit pricy for pizza, but it is well worth it. I am only giving Gaetano's 4 stars because their hours are limited. Alas, if they were open all the time I would probably gain 500 pounds. *Edit: I have to change this to five stars! Now that I live in Clifton Heights, I realzied there is one here as well. And it's open during the week! All my dreams have come true. This location also offers more pizza options, such as red and white clam pizza. Yum!

I finally made it to Gaetano's and they did not disappoint. This review is for the Springfield location. Located on Baltimore Pike (the boardwalk of Springfield), G's is in the center of a small strip mall. There is nothing and I am nothing to be said as far as appearance goes here. The shop itself is as bland as it comes. They don't even have a legitimate storefront sign, it's a window banner! This location is only open Thursday through Sunday, no delivery, no dining in and they are cash only. The parking lot around back was also very limited on spaces. How do these folks pay their rent? Because they are darn good at what they do; pizza! Gaetano's pizza style reminds me of Marrone's in Ardmore, PA. G's presents a highly sauced pie with a thicker crust. The sauce features tomato chunks and certainly does not spare any seasoning as it is bursts with rich flavor. They also do not skimp on the toppings. They loaded us up on pepperoni and mushrooms. I do think that if the pepperoni was sliced just a tad thicker it would better compliment their style, but again, very good! I brought the boys with me to pick-up the pizza and the staff could not have been friendlier. I am pretty sure every member acknowledged and said hello to my kids. The woman who rang me up even thanked me for my business! This might be a little silly, but I also like it when the pizza shop has their name on the box. To me, it is a display of being proud of your product and there is no reason that G's should not be. But with that being said, they should really invest in some better store signage (probably has something to do with limited hours).

I guess if you are labeled best pizza in delco, it's kind of like being happy about getting a D on an exam because the rest of your class all got Fs. First, let's get that out of the way. This is not the best pizza in delco. And to compare it to the best pies coming out of the Philly is crazy. The pizza itself is good, in fact I will say very good. The sauce is tasty , the cheese has a quality feel. My toppings seemed to be choice product. My issue with the pizza was the crust. It's not my preference, and had an oily feel to it. That being said. I would rate this a four star pizza except this is a review of gaetano's and not just the pizza. The place felt a bit dirty and showed it was not operational at times. There was dust visible on walls and floors, and the two chairs they had for you to sit In while you wait had so many stains on them they looked like they came from a salvage yard. Cash only like everyone said

I have heard many good things about Gaetano's Pizza so we thought we would give it a try. I should have checked yelp's pictures beforehand. The rating was good enough for me to give it a whirl, just had to hit up the ATM because they only accept cash. Ordered a plain pizza at 7:40, the lady on the phone told me it would be ready by 8. Not bad that gave me time to go to Wawa for some cash. Walked in 5 mins before 8 and my pie was finished. It smelled glorious in my car for the ride home. Opened up the box to a little surprise it was an upside down pizza. That was fine with me but not the wife lol. Personally I think their slices were to thick and had a little too much sauce, but i enjoyed my pizza. Will I go again it's debatable, I hardly ever carry cash on me and it seemed like a lot of steps for a Pizza. If i want an upside down pie I am going for Pica's, where the pie is much thinner.

We were in Springfield on a college visit to Swarthmore and had been running around all day. We found Gaetano's online and drove past it once before turning around and finding it. Just a pick up place, which suited us fine as we were ready to head back to the hotel. We ordered our pizza when we got there and waited to pick it up, so we got to talking to John and the staff. They were the nicest, friendliest people and we really enjoyed talking to all of them. And, we saw them make our pizza. I must say that their pies are painstakingly made and taste fantastic. We got the pepperoni pizza and loved the upside down pie as well as the slightly thick crust. We've had some great pizzas over the years and have our favorites in almost every city we've been to, and Gaetano's definitely ranks up among the top few. We were there about a month ago and all 3 of us find ourselves craving another one of those pies every few days. Next time we're anywhere near the area, we coming back!

There is no doubt that this is the best pizza in the Philadelphia area. Now some might say that their employees are not the friendlest, I say who cares? They could punch me in the face each time I entered to make a purchase and I would say thank you, now can I gets my pizza?

I grew up in Springfield and have been eating this pizza since I was a kid. I reached my pizza peak early in life , because I have never found pizza as good as Gaetano's. The sauce they use is absolute perfection. I don't live nearby anymore, but the 40 minute drive is well worth it. The hours at the Springfield location are a bit odd and on the weekends you have to order about 45 minutes-1 hour before you pick it up, but the wait is more than justified!

The best in delco! During Lent we get their Clam Pie... A Must! Very worth the drive and I would call in advance esp during Lenten season.

BEST Pizza in Del Co, by far. Moved to Del. Co. about a year ago, tried every pizza place in the area... they SUCKED. Tried Gaetano's and will never order anything else. Their white clam sauce pizza is perfection... and I agree with Ed W's comment completely... their pizza is so good, who cares how the staff is! That being said, the staff has always been great to me - probably because if they say it's going to be an hour wait, I come in a friggin hour! Not 15min! They're always crazy busy so order early and expect a wait... but it's WELL WORTH IT.

I LOVE THIS PLACE!! I grew up around here and have been in love with this pizza my entire life, i've never found anything better. Now I live in LA and every trip home i MUST have this pizza. The sauce is just to die for, i feel like I could drink it. I've yet to find a better pizza anywhere, it's just so unique, you must try it!

First a quick note to my favorite pizza place which I remain loyal to. You should not worry about losing my business to this place. Fact of the matter is, I just won't come here too much because it doesn't deliver, it's only open three times a week, it's about $4 more expensive than most pies in this area, and this location serves nothing else except pizza. In the end, this place is a very inconvenient place to visit if you are looking for such conveniences. Now.... all this being said, if you are going to be inconvenient and do business under your own rules like this, your food had better be incredible. Well, they're pretty darn close to that. I've had better pizza in my life, but not many. This place is worth it if you are looking for a pizza that is a break from the norm. The only thing that kept me from ranking this the best pizza is that it had maybe a little bit of a too salty flavor to me. I chalk that up to the fact that they are definitely using ingredients with stronger flavors such as a sprinkling of Romano cheese (or what I assumed to be Romano) and a more flavorful marinara sauce. It could be the fact that I had pepperoni on it with all of those ingredients. Maybe it was overload on the taste buds. But, it was far from a deal breaker, and believe me we had no problem polishing it off. It may not be an everyday destination place. It simply can't be that. But it is definitely a place that should be on your list to visit at least once if you're in this area. I guess what I'm trying to say is that this is pizza I need to be in the mood for in order to have. I need to be craving it and willing to spend the extra money for it. But I'm certain that will happen every now and then.

Many people I've taken here did not care for this pizza at all. The cheese is on the bottom, the basil-heavy sauce on top. The crust is a bit buttery. Personally, I liked it but I did not find it to be amazing. Many of my friends felt it was a disappointment, especially after winning "Best in Delco" over and over. The price is high, the hours stink, and the employees are a bit rude. Still, it's worth trying this different, if not world-shattering, pizza if you're in Delco.

Consistently delicious for the 15 plus years that my family and I have ordered pizzas from Gaetano's. I now live an hour away and I will make a special stop in when I'm in Delaware County just to bring it home. Everyone in the family wants one, so I can't leave without ordering a minimum of 4. I never last the entire hour drive without eating at least one slice in the car. Order extra for the best pizza breakfast--reheats perfectly in some foil in the toaster oven. Notes: Their hours are limited. Cash Only. Closest ATM at the Clifton Heights location is at the convenience store near the Clifton Heights train station a few blocks down Springfield. Not free so make it a habit to stop at Wawa or your bank's ATM if you want to save on surcharges. The wait will be a minimum of 45 minutes. It's worth the hassle. This place does one thing and it does it very well, their local following would have a riot if they started changing things. Don't come for by-the-slice. Don't come for anything other than this family's perfect, unique, addictive, haunting (!) pizza. Want. One. Now.

Having grown up in the Philly/Delco area & now living in NYC, I've certainly had my share of excellent pizza, but I think that Gaetano's is my absolute, all-time favorite pizza. Ever. I've even written a bunch of 5-star reviews on Yelp for other pizza places, but I want for this one to stand above the others. I wish I could give it a sixth star or something. Everyone's pretty much commented on the pizza by now, but let me reiterate that this isn't your typical pizza pie. The chunky, tangy sauce is on top & the cheese (mozzarella & provolone?) is on the bottom. The crust is in fact slightly buttery, as others have described, and it is both crunchy (on the edges) & slightly chewy at the same time. Just how I like it. Their toppings are fine, but for me, plain is the way to go (even though I usually love me the toppings). Their white pies are good (especially with broccoli or spinach), but nothing beats their plain red pie. The one downside is the odd hours of operations-- well, not hours so much as days (they're closed the first part of the week)-- as well as the fact that they don't deliver. You can't eat-in either. You have to come pick these babies up (entrance in the back). But in my eyes, I kind of like that. I admire that they can set their rules. Us devotees will do whatever it takes. It seems odd that of all the pizza joints I've been to in major cities, a suburban pizzeria is my all-time fave, but the pizza speaks for itself. Whenever I'm back in PA, I MUST have Gaetano's. (It helps that my parents usually have it once a week-- usually Fridays.) And oddly enough, while I've been eating their pizza pretty regularly for YEARS, I don't think I've ever had any of the sandwiches (I believe they still serve some sandwiches... at least I know they used to.) I'm sure they are/were delicious, but it's a testament to how good their pizza is-- I wouldn't want anything else.

You either love the pizza or hate it. I personally LOVE it, the cheese being under the herby sauce -- YUM.

The original store in Clifton Heights is down the street from my house growing up and boy did I luck out. This place is a hidden, looked over gem in terms of Greater Philadelphia. It's one of the, if not THE, best pizza places around. I couldn't tell you if it's an acquired taste or not since I grew up eating it but it is definitely a place that you would want to at least try once. You'll be hooked. Unfortunately, they don't deliver so you'll find yourself driving out to Clifton Heights whenever a Gaetano's mood strikes.

My favorite pizza place hands down. Decent price, long wait for pick up(no eat on or delivery). The best around.

As something of a pizza aficionado, I've had the best and worst pizza from all over the world. I'd probably rank this place in my top 5. An acquired taste, but true Philadelphia-style pizza. Sauce on top, then cheese, then dough. Also, the best crust I've ever had. Sprinkle some red pepper flakes, and you've got a great meal in front of you. This location is take-out only, and they keep really odd hours (Open thursday-sunday evenings), but there's another location just about a half mile away worth checking out.

  • Dara P.

When I first moved to Delco I needed to establish a regular pizza joint. Based on on the rave reviews I ordered from Gaetano's and expected to be blown away. I even prematurely entered their number in my cell phone for easy access. It has since been deleted. I found it blah. The up-side-down thing is cool but it doesn't make up for lack of seasoning/taste. You might have to be born here to get the appeal.
