I found this place while driving around Somerset looking for something to eat on my way to my family's cottage on Lake Stonycreek. It's purely a drive-thru BBQ. You pull up at a window and they'll give you a menu, take your order, then you pull around the building to another window to pay and pick up your order. Both times I've been there, the gentleman who was working the window was very friendly. (I think he's the owner) The food I've had here has been hit and miss. The first visit I ordered a combo dinner for 2, consisting of 1/2 rack pork ribs, 1/2 smoked chicken, 1/3 lb. pulled pork, a smoked baked potato, baked sweet potato, baked beans, coleslaw and 4 rolls. They give you butter, sour cream, cinnamon brown sugar butter (for sweet potato) and bbq sauce on the side for $21.99. It's a very good deal. You would need 2 very hungry people to eat all of it. The ribs and chicken were very good and tender. The pulled pork was a little dry and a little too smoky for me. (And I like smoky stuff.) The beans and slaw were average. The potatoes were good. The smoked potato was tasty with a slight smoky aroma. The cinnamon butter was awesome on the sweet potato. The sauces (regular and spicy) seemed to be bottled, but I could be wrong. A Kansas City style, thick and sweet. Overall, I enjoyed the meal and so did my friend. On my second visit, I ordered the brisket dinner, which is a 1/2 lb. of sliced brisket with 2 sides for $10.99. This time I chose the mac n' cheese and mashed potatoes w/ chicken gravy. Overall it was disappointing. The brisket was very dry, so that ruined it for me. The mac n' cheese wasn't that good and the mashed seemed powdered and the gravy was too salty for me. I love BBQ and I like eating at nonchain restaurants, so I'm really conflicted with this place. I had a really good meal the first time, not so much the second visit. I'll try it again sometime when I'm in the area and see how it goes.

I'm from out of the area and ads driving around looking for something different to eat, then I found this gem!!! As I pulled up the man that took my order, Was very friendly and helpful. I think he was the owner. As I was a first timer he helped me with my choices. I pulled around the building and waited for my food to be prepared. After I paid abs he handed my box, I doubled checked to make sure the plastic ware was inside. He quoted (everything you ever need is inside that box) and he was right!!! If I was ever stranded on a island. I would want this box with me!!! The fall off the bone ribs to the moist smokey ribs, homemade mashed potatoes with awesome gravy to the creamy cole slaw!! All was complimented with home BBQ sauce and rolls. This was the best BBQ I ever had. If I could take this place home with me I would!!! Locals should be here every day. And if your passing threw, make sure to stop. You won't be disappointed. Highly recommended.

pulled pork: 2* - was dry ribs: 3* just ok, nothing special about them, cooked well. chicken wings 3* - we ordered 3 wings, 1 of which may have been in the top 5 wings I've had in my life, the other two were lackluster...unfortunately don't know which is the usual... spicy sauce 4 or 5* place is pull up in your car and dine in your car no restrooms good compromise between sit down and fast food it was nice out so we took our food over to mcdonalds down the block and ate in their picnic area/used their restrooms :D really wanted to like this place...unfortunately was disappointed. Very good prices - We got ribs, pulled pork, and 3 wings for $18. Smelled good....

Have been eating here for a long time. Their food is great, and the price and service is great also. We like to search out and try different Q places and have hit several this summer. Some were okay, some were good and a few well not sure how they stay open. Stopped by JB's today and as we were sitting at home eating the ribs and brisket dinners, I commented that this is still the best tasting Q we have gotten out of all the places we go. If you go somewhere and your food comes out drowned in sauce, trust me there is a reason for that. At JB's they offer sauce on the side and I use it very sparingly, sauce should compliment not cover up. Bottom line is the only Q I have had that is better is what I make at home, and that is mainly because I can tailor flavors to my liking.

When I go on road trips I dream of landing at a place as authentic, friendly and good as JB's roadhouse. The chicken was perfect and the pulls pork tender as can be. Next time I'll try the ribs!

Stopped by there for a quick bite to eat. Fast, friendly and great food. This place doesn't look like much but you can't always judge a book by its cover.

This place is amazing! Every visit to Somerset, we make sure to have one dinner from JB's. We live in Tennessee and can't find BBQ as good as JB's!

Been going to JB's for years- best BBQ in town(pretty much the only Q in town) . Ribs are good, pulled pork is great, but the half chicken special on Sundays is excellent! Try the baked potato with any of the Q they have plus sour cream-a meal in itself

Great Sauce, Good Pork, Good Chicken, Brisket was only Okay... kinda dry. I did get the feeling they were microwaving everything(and admittedly lots of places do), but everything came out soooo hot that it dried out after cooling a bit. I would rather have it cold or warmed up in liquid. I love the portions and the place itself is just a cool spot. Overall worth the trip!

Thanks to the other yelpers who wrote a review about this place. Was in Somerset, PA for a girls cabin weekend getaway and needed a quick lunch. This place was cute, unassuming, a little confusing how to order, but my goodness some really tasty BBQ. The 1/3lb pork sandwich with the mild sauce was pretty darn great - lots of meat and sauce and just a great flavor! Will definitely be back when we head up that way again.

delicious quirky and quick lunch stop. Were driving cross state and looked for a good place to grab sandwiches. Skipping the typical stash of restaurants off the turnpike (mcd, Arby's, ruby Tuesday's etc) we took a leap of faith on a few yelp reviews for jb's and drove on. When we walked thru the drive thru (the only place to order) the server assured us they get "at least 2 a day like us". The rest are clearly locals that know the drill. We ordered and brought our food to a picnic table (the only place to eat). The pulled pork was perfectly cooked and fresh. The sides were awesome, too. I feel lucky to have stumbled on this local hotspot and would recommend to anyone passing thru.

We just can't resist barbecue and hope someday to find one which uses local meats. But in the meantime, we will continue to review local barbeques and encourage them to find local humane and natural/organic farms to get their meat from. It was snowing like mad when we pulled off the highway lured by promise of delicious barbecue. This is not a restaurant, but a drive through where you to take your food home to eat or, in our case, you eat it in the truck. Granted eating bbq in a truck can be quite messy, but we decided to tough it out for the sake of our readers... We ordered a pulled pork sandwich on flat bread and brisket on a bun along with unsweetened iced tea and a gob (more on that later). Now, having eaten in some pretty incredible barbecue joints, one of the pleasures is the freshly brewed tea. But here for the sake of convenience you will get a bottled Pepsi product. The pulled pork was juicy and well seasoned and the brisket was not dried out, but the smoke ring was shallow and both lacked a truly smoky flavor. The sauces were not scratch made, but bottled sauce of some sort. We will give them props on the flat bread they use. It really held up to the juicy meat and didn't turn to mush like buns usually do, so very well done to whoever came up with that idea. For dessert we had something called a gob, a local treat which resembles a whoopee pie. Well, we each had a bite, anyway. It is made with a dense sugary cake and a cloyingly sweet, heavy filling. Ours was a chocolate peanut butter gob. We found the cake to be too sweet and the filling consisted peanut butter, shortening, powdered sugar and some liquid to give it a spreadable consistency. While we are certain that there are followers who love these, we didn't. The gentleman who gave us our food was very nice and knowing that we were eating in the truck, provided us with napkins which were wrapped around a wet wipe and a toothpick. We felt this was a nice touch. Overall, considering just the meat and how well it is seasoned, this barbecue is better than many you will find and will satisfy the craving

This is a wonderful little roadside gem! Great Pulled Pork BBQ and really large sandwiches at a great price. You can tell that they pay close attention to the meat as it's really tender and full of smoked flavor. I will definitely be stopping back at JB's anytime I'm in the Somerset area. Delicious!

Best BBQ I've eaten yet. An unexpected delight in an otherwise gastronomically-challenged region of PA.

Good bbq! Have been there twice and both times were great. They close early, 7pm on Saturday evening, so get there early! They are just a drive thru, though, but definitely worth the visit. Had been dreaming about that place since our visit when we discovered it last year, and it did not dissapoint. Ribs were of good size, smokey flavor, fall off the bone. Pulled pork good, but not hot, just luke warm. Friendly service. Cole Slaw and baked beans hit the spot as well. Would def recommend. Just be sure to ask plastic wear if not taking home and to a hotel like we were. . . Oops.

Gosh!!! I miss this place!!!! It's one of the only things I miss from Somerset. This was mine and my husband Favorite joints to go to on Sunday. I do not know if they still have this special, but you could purchase a half a chicken and two sides( with their amazing bread and cinnamon butter!!!) for only $5.99. A bargain to say the least. ( a ton of food!!!) The prices of their other selections are decent as well. I must say that The pulled pork is awesome and the BBQ sauces, which they have 2 or 3 , are very tasty. We had a chance to speak to the owners a few times, who are friendly and accommodating. They were most helpful in explaining most of the items on the menu. Oh, and if you have room for dessert, try their extensive selection of gobs they have for sale ( red velvet, pumpkin Etc), you will not be disappointed. If We ever get the chance to go back to ( oh, dare I speak this town's name???) Somerset, First Stop JB's Roadhouse. Maybe Sophia will Like it as well....

I used to be a local who ordered take-out there when I wanted really, REALLY good pulled pork with great sauce. I moved away, but when I go back to the area, I usually pick up some to take home. You can ask to get some frozen, and they'll supply it - all I have to do is reheat it and while I prefer it hot from their pick-up window, it's still wonderfully good! I love their spicy-sweet sauce (they'll give you containers of that also if you ask). Their ribs are excellent also, fall of the bone tender, smoky and delicious. Best side dishes are the baked potatoes and baked beans. I noticed a reviewer mentioned they didn't like the brisket and mac-and-cheese, I have to agree with him on those dishes - but if you want a great meal, get the ribs or pulled pork with a side of baked beans. Isn't that what BBQ is all about?

I'd give them six stars if I could... I go to the Somerset area to ski, and love to stop at JB's. It's a shack at the side of the road with a big sign--don't be put off by the small size of the place. I've had their pulled pork--it's great. The chicken is also excellent. But be sure to try the ribs, they are perfectly cooked and delicious. My wife is nuts about the cole slaw, and everyone loves the BBQ beans. If you get their dinner for four, you'll get all three meats plus some sides. If you're coming to the area for a weekend, get it all cold and warm it in the microwave for a quick and delicious meal. Or after your visit, stop at JB's before you get on the Turnpike to take some of their great food home! Dave Roberts hiddenvalleyresort.into

We have been there 3 times in the past 6 months and will easily go back when traveling thru that area!!! Some of the best BBQ North of the Mason-Dixon Line. I have had the BBQ Chicken, Beef Brisket, and Pulled Pork and would easily order any of the 3 again!!!
