I enjoy the old school feel. It's definitely not what I am used to but it's delicious. I didn't think they would accommodate my annoying food habits, but there wasn't s problem and they did everything how I liked. Good spot, not quiet, fast paced, loud; better than I expected.

Really inexpensive. Pleasant and friendly staff. Good for sandwiches and eggs. Open all night.

The only time I ever want to eat here is when there is nowhere else to eat. Even then I would prefer to eat at home. This diner is in much need of renovation. It is the least cleanly place I have ever eaten. I can't justify it for a simple breakfast or a sub-par cheeseburger. Sorry but I can't bring myself to sugar coat it. This place needs to be cleaned up.

Just enjoyed, sadly, the worst diner experience in 30 years. I can't rate the food because it never got to us, nor did any drinks at all. Someone took the order ten minutes after we arrived then proceeded to ignore us for 40 more minutes. Place was less than half full when we left- and it's only ten tables anyway. Please avoid at all costs

Really, the best way I can put this would be plagiarizing Yelp but I will anyway. Meh. I've experienced better. Maybe I should put that in quotes so I can call it a citation rather than plagiarizing but you get the idea. This is a diner. Nothing more. In Scranton, it's an institution because it's been there as long as anyone can remember. I guess that's why they think they don't have to serve good food. Or price it fairly. Or treat their customers with respect. The place is always open, so if you find yourself in Scranton at midnight and have to have food, you could go here. I went for breakfast because I grew up in Scranton and knew this place served breakfast. I should have kept looking. Eggs and corned beef hash with toast. I was charged an additional twenty five cents because I opted for the rye bread. Not that I mind paying a quarter more but it would have been nice to have been told ahead of time, not when the bill arrived. With a cup of tea, this was breakfast. The eggs were okay the hash was okay the tea was okay. Nothing was great. It was just okay. I had to ask for jelly for the toast. Maybe I expect too much but when I'm paying for food, I want it to be good. I want flavor. I want to feel that it was money well spent. At Chick's, the most I can say is that the feeling you're most likely to get will be gas.

Old school, roadside diner conveniently located off I81. Yes, it's a dirty, no frills place with beat up menus and a salty staff... But it's all party of the appeal. Saddling up to counter around 1am for greasy bfast and eavesdropping on other people's drama and gossip is s great night cap. I've been coming here for years and have a few go tos I always order. This is so common they ask you if you even need a menu. Aside from traditional eggs, bacon, toast, I suggest chic noodle soup for salty comfort, turkey club, fries with gravy on side, cheez is also an option, egg chick muff sand which... Stick with basics. It's not cuisine, but it is consistent. Lori has been waiting on us for 20 yrs and always greets us with a smile... Can't say that about cooks .. Although everyone has been there for years. It's a trip.

Visited here in January of 2014 and the Potato cakes I ordered were mushy and burned. Never want to eat here again.

The service was great (waitress was super friendly and remembered my coworkers order from the day before), and quick. The food was OK. It was crowded, and kinda hot. But like, what are your other options in the immediate area?

I love diners. From the outside looked like nice traditional place. Get inside place is worn out and very dirty. busy when arrived and waited 10 min to get drink order. Place cleared out but drinks never came and waitress never took order. Waited 40 min to see if eventually they would come over. I mean this is a really small diner impossible not to notice us. Probably for the best can't rate the food considering how dirty it was. How can a place like this even stay open....

Cheese fries. Enough said. Know what you want whether sober or drunk.. The waitresses are awesome and don't take any bullshit. Oh and cheese fries

We were staying just down the street in the Sheraton and stopped in for lunch one day. We didn't expect much... it's kind of a hole in the wall, straight up old school diner. Much to our surprise, it was FANTASTIC! Our waitress (young, with dark hair - her name slips my mind right now) was so bubbly and nice. She let my mom order the pancakes even though it was after breakfast. I had the BEST tuna melt. We ended up eating there a few more times during our trip. I highly recommend this place. Good food, great price, lots of character. Just a heads up though, they don't accept credit. So make sure you have cash - or at least an ATM card; as they do have an ATM machine.

Filthy, disgusting, (thick grease and dirt used as caulking?) so much confusion. Eight (or more?) people on staff "hustling" at 2:30 pm on a Wednesday? Close it down for a week, learn to salt with a sprinkle not dump mass quantities, power clean, clean some more, wash your bodies, teach waitress NOT to pick her nose and 'flick' while leaning over the soups, heat your oil so you don't lade everything with grease without a crisp. AND that hairy-armed man should use a spoon, not his bare arms up to the elbow mixing coleslaw. Inedible meals left on our plates, thinking we were being 'punked'; and still hungry. The owners should thank God l no longer work at the health department. Whose palm is getting grea$$$ed to keep this place open?

I like Chick's Diner. Affordable home-made cooking. Chick's dose not impress you visually, but in your wallet and appetite.

I really like the "diner" food...both breakfast and lunch, but the service is terrible. The cook yells at the waitstaff. Today he siad "im not rushing"! I thought a diner was suppose to be fast.... The tables are never cleaned quickly enough and a simple hamburg takes 25 minutes.

Im surprised at the low rating. Chicks has been a staple in Scranton for years. And its no mistake. Good consistenthomestyle diner food at very affordable prices. The fries are quite good and I generally dont eat fries. I have since moved to CA but always make a late noght venture to Chocks whilst in town. Oh, and fast service even when its slammed there. Keep up the good work.

I'll keep this review short. This is based on one breakfast at Chick's Diner. The food was awful. I've never eaten bacon as thin as paper before, and I hope I never do again. The french toast was flavorless and soggy. The coffee was average at best. No credit cards accepted (important for all us business travelers). The restaurant is filthy and falling apart. I have two positives: 1) the service was friendly and pretty quick and 2) the prices are very low. Let's put it this way, I should have just had the continental breakfast at the hotel. Don't eat here, ever.

Driving to Chicago and we stopped by for a quick meal at 9:00pm. Food was good, cheap and the service was quick. The diner was a little sketchy, but I really can't complain. It was a solid choice off the highway.

Classic dinner which is mainly for the locals. We stopped there for early breakfast. Cheap huge portion and the corn beef hash was very good

More than okay if you are looking for a late night breakfast meal at dirt cheap prices as a college student. If you are a diner snub than theres not a lot here for you. Not a whole lot of quality there. Just simple, cheap food.

There was a hair on my burger. That said, I was just intoxicated/hungry enough to carefully remove it and finish my meal. If you can find a McDonalds, do it. If not, Chick's is your spot. The cheese and gravy fries save the place a star.

I love it! The desserts are good (I had apple pie), and the waitresses are friendly. This weekend I had the virginia ham and it was delicious! I recommend stopping by =) Plus, it's only a short walk from the Clarion Hotel, so it's a nice place to stop for dinner during a trip to Elk mountain.

#1: there was a drug deal going down as we tried to enter diner. One kitchen staff and two waitresses were purchasing "pills". #2 the rug in the back is sticky. Not just in one place. The whole rug is sticky and smells like urine. #3 The entire place is filthy. #4 The food stinks! The soup was sour. #5 the paper signs everywhere want to make me slash my wrists. WHY?!

DISGUSTING DISGUSTING DISGUSTING. If you can get past the fact this place is gross and unclean, maybe their food would taste okay. I feared getting sick from eating this food. Deserves zero stars.

Large portions, tasty food, a charming and uber-competent waitress (Lori), free parking and a classic building, in service since 1946. If I were a local this would be my go to breakfast place.

Chick's is fine, a quintessential greasy spoon of a diner...bit of a dive, really. They are open at all hours, make all the standard diner fare, service is ok, what Chick's has is street cred. It's the place that refused to give up it's cigarettes when Scranton banned public smoking. It's also the place where virtually all the inebriated, hungry people of the Electric City can be found at the wee hours of the morning. Truth be told, I prefer The Glider, but I can see the appeal of Chick's. (It's also conveniently located for stopping in on my way into town.)

All the criticism below are pretty much true - but its chicks! Seriously, for what it is, it is 100% worth it = )

Place looks rad because it hasn't changed at all, but its absolutely filthy, i swear they season their food with cigarette ashes, like they put it in a pepper shaker. I guess its tolerable if its 330am and you're completely loaded and need drunk food. Honestly, McDonald's would be a better choice, which is pathetic

Great eggs Benedict. Decent turkey club. Not much else to speak of. Gets jammed from 2am-3am on weekends which gives the waitresses an excuse to be crankier than they usually are. I usually get takeout here which is a nightmare because there is some kind of problem with the order 50% of the time(which I'm usually told was my fault by the friendly staff).

There was a looong hair in my omelet, and the water had a disgusting taste to it. The entire place looked dirty, and the menu is VERY small for a diner. Two stars because the waitress was nice.

This is a rare find. The way it was in the 50's and 60's. True Scranton!
