I've been to Charlie's three times since it opened. This hole-in-the wall off Main Ave is a hidden gem. So far I have tried two of the daily dinner specials (spaghetti and homemade meatballs; sausage and peppers) as well as their Reuben (aka the Big Browning). Everything I've tried has tasted great; I'd even go so far as to say that the meatballs were on par with my mother's (and that's saying something). The portion sizes are large, and everything is reasonably priced. The service at this 3-generation family business is the among the friendliest I've ever experienced. You can tell they want their customers to feel at home. One tip: make sure you try Charlie's homemade cinnamon rolls; they're delicious!

This is the first time I've ever been here and I can safely say it will not be the last. This place is probably one of the best "hole in the wall" places to eat. I got the Jackson St and my girlfriend got the Main Ave Slam and both were amazing lucky for me my girlfriend let me try the flapjacks that came with her Main Ave Slam and they were probably the best I've ever had. I would highly recommend Charle's West Side Cafe. For those that don't like to read TL:DR Great place, great staff, amazing food and all around new favorite place to get food from.

Friendly joint with great breakfast fare. We stopped in on our way to NYS and we're not disappointed. Friendly greetings and smiles as we entered and a bountiful menu with traditional offerings. Fresh ingredients and locally baked breads. Delightful experience.

I was at Charlie's today, for lunch, and to be honest it did not live up to the hype that was built around it. The breads and bagels and buns are all fresh and amazing and the cinnamon buns I'm sure are amazing, if they're as good as the other baked goods. Unfortunately that's the best part of this place. The staff is uneducated, in my opinion, on how service should be. For example we put our order in and put another order in to go, when we payed for the 1 order we asked if he "to go" order was ready, our waitress didn't even recall us making it until she checked the bill then said "oh I never even put it in" never apologized, she did ask us if we still wanted it, but as our "in house" order took 40 MINUTES to make it to the table, we declined. My niece that was with me ordered the chicken tenders and French fries, both of which came from the microwave were a big disappointment even for a 7 year old. I ordered a cheddar and bacon burger which was extremely underseasoned and over cooked, for the first time in my life I had to put salt on a burger in a diner. French fries were straight out of the microwave. All plates come with a pickled egg, which was good. It seems like the cook can only cook 1 order at a time, based on the duration of our wait when there was only 2 other tables occupied. I don't think I will be returning to the establishment unless its for the bagels and breads.

Charlie's is a nice breakfast spot in West Side. Overall, everything was good. One other person went with me and together,we got the Jackson St. Breakfast, Cinnamon Bun Pancakes, and a Cinnamon roll, along with coffee and orange juice to drink. The coffee was slightly slow getting to our table, but tasted good. The Cinnamon Bun Pancakes were great! The Two pancakes were dusted with cinnamon accompanied by a drizzling of cinnamon roll icing on top and swirls of whipped cream on the sides. They were moist and pretty large. the Jackson St. Was also, for the most part, very tasty. The eggs were good. The hash browns were okay, not spectacular, but fine. The bacon was cooked exactly the way it was desired, and the toast was magnificent! The homemade bread made the toast absolutely delicious!! The house made Cinnamon roll was also fabulous! Just the right amount of icing, combined with a warm and gooey, cinnamon infused dough made the perfect sweet treat! One downside to all of this is the prices. This place is a bit steep. The Jackson St was around 7 dollars, and the pancakes were 6. Overall,Charlie's is a tasty breakfast Cafe with an at-home feel, friendly staff, and good food.

Came in here for the first time today. Tara, or server, was super sweet, and the entire staff was welcoming and friendly. They grow their veggies in a garden on the side of the building, which the owner was proud to show us. And to top it off, the food was absolutely amazing, and I would definitely go again.

Went there this past Sunday for brunch with the fam. Great little spot. We packed into a booth with my chair on the end and was ready to go. The waitress was funny and we were laughing the whole time. My fam devoured the cinnamon buns that they ordered, as we were told would happen by the waitress. I was saving room for my 3 egg meat lovers omelet. It was fantastic. Packed with meat. I scarfed it as well as the fresh bread toast that came with it. Staff is great, food is great. We will be back!

Food sucks, employees talk about the guests. Owner tries to sleep with customers., waitresses bring the high school drama to the work place. Truly a gross place! Mice run across floor employes smoke in kitchen.

My wife and I went there based on other reviews, and found that Charlie's West Side Cafe exceeded our expectations. A hole in the wall to be sure, but looks were deceiving, as my wife enjoyed the vegetables, normally an afterthought, cooked perfectly in her omelet. My bacon omelet was world class. Luckily hitting the place on an uncharacteristically quiet Sunday morning, we were even more fortunate to speak with the chef and proprietor, Paulie, who took us out back to the gardens where he grows his vegetables, and kindly gave us some jalapenos straight from the tree to take home with us. Garden to plate, his vegetables can't be any fresher. Scranton is lucky to have a chef so interested in locally grown ingredients for his menu, and we can't wait to come back to there next year to eat his food again.
