Wow I was expecting a higher rating. It was above average to me. Had the panini (had salami and ham, I can't recall what it was) and a taste of the chicken parm. Although I haven't had many paninis (maybe 3 other ones in my lifetime) but this was the best one I've tried. The coleslaw side dish I got was OK. The chicken parm was good enough. Prices seemed fair. Winter Olympics was on, service was great. Overall, I'm glad this place turned out to be good because I randomly stopped in.

After waiting 20 min to give a drink order our food came out 30 min after we got to order that. When it did my veggie stir fry came out with chicken in it at which point I just canceled my order. I will never go back here again and I see now why the other location closed up.

Well, I've tried this place twice. The first time was ok, came mid afternoon, staff was as mediocre as the food. The desert seemed to be old, no freshness. The second time was at the location in the mall. There were 6 of us, waited almost 45 min for food, we left.

Delicious food and no wait for a Friday night. Would have given 5 stars... However our waitress failed to mention my plate was extremely hot and I burned my finger. I get that plates can be hot at times, but a little notice would have been nice. I now have a good size blister to take care of... Can't really have a good meal after that. Plus, after I touched the plate I loudly said "that's hot" and our waitress laughed as she walked away. First time there, won't be back.

One and done.... cant believe how many people go to this crappy place.... went for lunch and totally GROSS - appetizers were greasy beyond eating, and you needed an autopsy to tell what the meat on the bun was. Add that to terrible service and what a lousy experience.

Oh my goodness, this place is so bad and so overpriced, I can't believe how popular it is. I went there with my boss and got scallops for lunch. They were clearly not fresh and they were supposed to be sauteed and they came out with no crust on them, just a lot of paprika. They were awful. Our lunch was almost $50 with no drinks. For the quality and price, I'd never go back or recommend.

Went to meet up with a friend in Reading. We stopped at the first place we saw as it was raining cats and dogs. This is your typical diner, very typical although I will say the decor was a little upscale. Or trying to be upscale. We both had the strawberry chicken salad and I have to say it was very good. I am glad that my waitress was honest enough to steer me away from the crab and shrimp salad. The desserts were made offsite and did not look appetizing at all. I might go back here in a pinch, but will not search it out.

Hey, I dig it. They have a huge menu and not everything is great (the pizza..not so much, but it's a diner so duh!) but their sandwiches were good and they have really friendly staff. I'd recommend it.

I've updated my rating for Chef Alan's. I used to not like the place, but after a few recent visits I found the food to be somewhat improved. I'd recommend it for lunches and casual dinners.

I see that most of the posts are old so here's an update. DON'T GO!!! I was on a date with a my hubby and at first I was excited because I had ordered one of their new drinks which turned out great. Looks over the menu, I saw a streak Bruschetta which I thought they were referencing to the traditional version of the dish but they meant topping on a pasta. It was fine, I was really hunger anyway. I took a few bites and the streak was tough. Over all the dish sucked so I asked to have it sent back. That wasn't an issue and the nice waitress said she will see if they can cook it med rare like I wanted it. As we were waiting and my husband was talking to me, I saw crawling on the window a cockroach. That pretty much ended my night right there. They let us leave and I will not go back. Too bad because that drink was really good.

French Onion soup. If you're not going to do it right, then don't do it. Alan's serves a perfectly good onion soup in a crock but then doesn't make the cheese all crusty on top and the bread... see that's the thing.. the bread's not supposed to be soggy even though it's sitting in soup. The BBQ chicken pizza was pretty good but not great. The service was somewhat inattentive and slow and we noticed that tables around us were left unclean for minutes after patrons left. This resulted in the hostess taking one couple back to the waiting area before she could seat them. Not cool. Prices are not bad and the food is pretty good... that's the only thing saving this place from 2-stardom.

At first sight Chef Alans looked, from the outside, like your typical diner. When I walked in the front door I was please to see the atmosphere was very warming and well designed. I was seated in the bar. Very friendly waitress assisted me with choosing my drink. They have a large stocked bar I WANTED TO ORDER EVERY ITEM. Amazing selection. Everything from soup to burgers to broiled orange roughy to brick oven pizza. I decided on the coconut shrimp for a start but was still undecided on my main item. My waitress recommended a lump crab meat sandwhich on rye smothered in cheddar cheese. YUM YUM YUM. I got my shrimp and all I could say was they are amazing. I got 6 nice sized coconut shrimp with tangy dipping sauce The dipping sauce was unreal. Next up CRAB MEAT!!!! While waiting for my order I even got my awesome waitress to let me get a cigarette off her. ( I know trying to quit!!!). When I returned I noticed a lot of other lunch patrons meals. The salads looked amazing and the burgers were very large and looked awesome. The crabby seawitch was completely amazing. I got everything with a soda for $21 without the tip!!! How much better can it get??? All in all Chef Alan's was worth the money and I will be going back if in the area.

Local guy does good. For a place that caters to the local taste buds and brings something different to the table, he does well. We enjoy eating at both of his restaurants and always find something new to try. The service could be better but that goes for all full service restaurants today, wherever. For a local joint it's great.

Not bad at all. The layout and decor isn't very interesting, but it was nice and I liked my meal. My significant other had a salad she really like. The service was super friendly, although I remember it taking them forever it bring out check. For some reason I get antsy when servers are too slow to bring out the check, but some people who aren't as OCD as me probably appreciate the extra time. If you're looking for a date place, this isn't it. Unless it's a first date and then this place is perfect because there isn't a hint of romance here, which in my opinion should be avoided in those situations... But if you and whoever want a casual meal without paying too much this place is great. And bonus points here for healthy options on the menu!
