Higher priced stake house in the area but it is defiantly worth it.

Austin's has always been a family favorite. They don't get rid of the menu favorites like some restaurants do! I moved from the Reading area 5 years ago, but still stop by Austin's the few times a year I'm back home for some Caesar salad, baked potato soup, and skinny fries! The wait staff works as a team, so service is always good. Best of all- they are SUPER accommodating for those with Celiac who can't just have something "mostly Gluten free." When in doubt, make a reservation. This place always has a crowd.

A quick review for an okay place. Decent although unexciting food. Pretty noisy and lots of families, large servings, but quite good service. If you're looking for decent family fare a definite step up from basic family chain, this restaurant will hit the spot. Menu is pretty basic stuff. Very popular, especially when lots of more boutique restaurants are closed.

Ah, Austins. One of the first Berks County restaurants where each server and hostess was required to wear a headset. Sure, the staff looks like a bunch of customer service reps running around an office building, but this team-oriented model helps fulfill diners' needs (i.e. refills, pre-bussing, quality control, etc.). The downside of all this is the servers don't seem human. Each is programmed to perform a specific duty, and the soft, good-natured HUMAN aspect of the employees is taken away. It all seems so robotic and cold. Whoever the owners/managers are - well, they sure run a tight ship. In each of my visits, I felt almost as if I was on a conveyor belt of service, being passed along the assembly line, moving across a factory floor from start to finish. Be wary of steaks, as they tend to be overcooked and under seasoned. At Austins, dishes in general are known to be left under the heating lamps to dry out, simply because the timing in the kitchen was extraordinarily off.

Very nice meal. We shared the wild mushroom soup which was very rich in flavor. We also split the twisted shrimp which was phenomenal...the menu was a fair attempt to describe the appetizer. I think it's hard to capture honestly. Try it! My wife had the crab cakes which got a favorable review from her. I tried the crunchy noodle salad. That was okay. The honey lime dressing was a little too tart and the salad was missing the peanut sauce. There are plenty of servers available to help, so I got the sauce on the side. That picked up the flavor a bit more.

I have NEVER had a bad meal or bad service and we have been going since they opened. The ribs and chicken fingers are my old favorite. I also love the shrimp pasta sauté and my new fav is the ahi tuna. I miss the bananas foster tho.

This is my girlfriend and I's go to place. The meals are always on point and everything on the menu is delicious. The staff is always friendly and helpful. You can't go wrong with this place.

Excellent meal and terrific service. Had a family dinner here last night and really enjoyed the experience. All six meals were prepared perfectly and our server was very efficient. Was impressed that the manager also stopped by our group to see how we enjoyed the meal. Reservations are helpful as this is a really popular spot. Not a place to carry on a quiet conversation, however.

My family and I used to frequent this restaurant on a weekly basis. I haven't been here in years so I decided to check it out for lunch with a friend today. I walked in & was told there was a 20 minute wait. It was only lunch time and there was already a wait? Hmmm, they just must be that popular! No worries; I just took a pager and had a seat. The restaurant is simply gorgeous. There's exposed brick and paintings on the walls. You definitely forget you're in Berks County while dining here. The pager didn't go off yet & a young lady escorted us to a table near the bar. We were handed menus and I was surprised; they now offer brunch! I should have went with something on that menu. We started off with two ice waters (extra lemon please) I then decided a mimosa sounded good. I also ordered a Caesar salad (extra dressing on the side), baked potato soup & a burger. My dining partner ordered the same minus the soup. Our waitress bought our ice waters out immediately and then my mimosa not too long after that. I couldn't believe how small it was (see picture!) I know you're not supposed to get drunk off of one drink but my goodness. I couldn't justify paying $4 for that. Thankfully our waitress was really sweet about it, asking me if something was wrong with it / did I want another adult beverage. I declined & just stuck to my water. My soup came out next and it was absolutely delicious! I could have just had my soup and salad for my meal ( that's what I used to order all the time; my eyes were bigger than my belly when I got a burger as well LOL) The salad was also fantastic. It was cold and very fresh. I really didn't even need the extra dressing; all of the lettuce was tossed in the dressing beautifully. What a great combo! Our entrees came out and my girlfriend's burger was a bit too pink in the middle. Not a problem! Once again, our amazing server came over to check on us and asked how we were doing. She took the burger back and shortly after a manager (I think he was a manager; blue button down shirt) came over to see what was wrong. He was very pleasant, told us it would be about 3 minutes & asked if there was anything he could get us. Talk about amazing customer service! Her burger came out and the manager politely asked if she could cut into it to make sure it was to her liking. Let me tell you, that was a big ass burger. The bun was huge as well. I ended up taking the top off because I was already pretty full from the salad/soup. While the burger was tasty & juicy, I felt like there was something missing. It was a plain burger topped with cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, and onion - but it was too plain for my liking. I would definitely come back to Austin's & I'd recommend this restaurant to others. What really made me give them 5 stars was their outstanding customer service. In a world where we have so many options for our dining pleasures, what makes a restaurant stand out from the competition? There was a couple of little things that happened - these things happen! But the way that they were handled were done with class & that's what really matters. Thank you so much Austin's for a wonderful experience. I'll be back soon!

Holy shit the Crab Alfredo was F'ing awesome!! It actually had a lot of crab in it, not just a little pile placed on top for show. The Caesar salad had a nice bite to it and was great. The honey wheat bread with maple butter is good & my wife said her veggie burger was fresh & delicious! The fresh Chocolate Chip Cookie Sundae was one of the best desserts I've ever had! Wow! The restaurant had a great atmosphere, a nice bar with some tv's, a dimly lit dining room but not too dark & I thought it was very nice. I really like the open kitchen so you can actually see everybody working hard to make all of the delicious food. The staff was very friendly and helpful & all were willing to help you even if they weren't your server. The prices for the quality of food I received were more then reasonable, two dinners & dessert for less then $40. Absolutely no complaints here! From my perspective everything including our server Danielle was great! Will definitely be back, thanks!

Service: sub par. One order of Prime Rib was dry and overdone. The reservation was messed up by the desk staff my so called Cajun steak was tough and way under done it was blood red. The crab dip was very good. The garlic mashed potatoes were very good. Spent $85.00. Was disappointed with the food and Austin's ambiance . The waitress was the only bright spot. Attentive yet humorous. Overall: a C-

Austin's is a bit more pricey than we prefer for a regular meal out, but when we're thinking of something a bit fancier, it's the first place we think of. Friendly staff, great food, so clean -- an all around great place, just like all of the other places owned by this owner.

The family and I came here for my birthday dinner tonight. We started the meal with the Tuesday appetizer special of twisted shrimp for six bucks which we all enjoyed. I ordered my usual at Austin's, the Texas chicken tenders & ribs. Austin's really has the best ribs. I don't like the mess I usually make at rib places, but that's not a problem here because the meat is so tender, it simply falls off the bone and I can pick it up with a fork. The chicken tenders are great too. I also had a Caesar salad and the seasonal four cheese mac-n-cheese as my sides. The mac and cheese should be a regular menu item; it was delicious. For my birthday, I had a coupon from Austin's for a free dessert. We all shared the chocolate chip cookie sundae. It was awesome! I highly recommend it. Our waitress even put a sparkler in it. A nice touch. I notice that the manager reads and replies to Yelp posts, so I'd just like to suggest that Austin's consider expanding in the Lehigh Valley. I read that Shula's is leaving the Promenade Shops. I don't know if the rent is insane, but I think an Austin's would do very well in that location.

We came to Austins after not being here in a while and were happily surprised that everything was great!!! Started with the spring awakening cocktail that was refreshing and love love love the potato soup. And finally a restaurant that actually makes steaks medium! Yay! The Maui Ribeye is great!!

[The owner of Austin's and I seem to be going back and forth a bit. In part, what he says is fair. My review is just my opinion... I'm not a restaurant critic... and I really should tone it down. Calling me a "moron," however, isn't fair. I paid for two meals at Austin's. I can speak from my experience. I have a right to my opinions, no matter how much he disagrees with them.] My opinions of Austin's-- Decor/ambiance: Nondescript, dull (4/10) Service: Agreeable (6/10) Bread and butter: Not fresh or soft, bland (3/10) Rib eye: Ordered rare, came medium... slightly tough... not particularly flavorful (3/10) Baked potato: Overcooked, dry (3/10) Seared ahi tuna: Chewy, bland, not properly seared (3/10) Loaded potato: Cheese wasn't hot, potato was dry (3/10) Ribs: Maybe someone else likes them that way... not to my taste... couldn't eat but 4-5 bites (1/10) Price: WAY too high for Berks County. These are NYC prices... where I just moved from. (1/10) The menu is way too big: austinsrestaurant.com/me… For those who would like to read up on the dangers of big menus: harvestamericacues.com/2… In my opinion, they apply to Austin's. The owner also touts the restaurant's large portions. Large portions and large menus, to me, are two of the hallmarks of restaurant mediocrity. Among area restaurants, a close analog to Austin's menu is Chef Alan's... where portion size is similar. Both restaurants are pretty terrible, to my taste... but at least Chef Alan's is cheaper. My experience at Austin's was one that my wife and I wish we could forget. Fortunately, there are a lot of other fine restaurants in the area.... such as Laxmi's, Hong Thanh, Peanut Bar, Judy's, Stoudt's, Thaiwat, Go Fish (if you want to taste what real seared ahi should taste like), Muddy's (if you want to taste what real ribs should taste like), etc. High prices, high quantity, low quality. To me, that's a bad ratio that I call "bad bang for the buck." To any friend, I'd recommend avoiding Austin's.

I've been coming here for a few years now and have always enjoyed my food. The service is usually very friendly as well. Tonight we went to Austins for a family celebration and were seated at a large booth with plenty of space and were quite content until half way through the meal when another large party consisting mostly of young children (a little league baseball team) were seated next to us, though that party did have adults, they allowed the children to be seated in the booth directly next to ours with no supervision while the adults were seated two booths away. For the rest of the meal we had to deal with unattended children yelling, jumping around, and most startling of all playing with their steak knives in a less than playful manner, acting as if they were going to hurt one another.

Nine of us went to Austin's to celebrate my birthday, and I couldn't be happier. They accommodated all of us, our server was excellent, the food was just amazing, and everyone had a wonderful time. Even my sons raved about their meals, and usually they just inhale and their food is gone, so I know they were enjoying themselves. And yeah, the crab alfredo is insanely awesome (though I have been here for lunch and the salmon is A.MA.ZING.) A bit on the pricier end, but it is absolutely worth it. Austin's is now my special day go-to place.

I have always enjoyed dining here. I have been to Austin's about 10 or 11 times at least. The food is consistently good. The staff is very friendly. Because they use a team system, it never takes long to to grab a servers attention to get your drink refilled or replace the fork that accidentally got dropped. Somehow, all the staff stays in sync with one another so there is really no confusion. From the apps to the entrees to the deserts to the service to the prices, you can't beat Austin's for a great dining experience!

Pretty pathetic. If this is one of the better places for steak that Reading has to offer, I'm going to be a sad bear for the next 12 months. Came here with my father and had to wait for a table on Friday night (not sure why people would keep coming back here but it was packed nonetheless). When we were seated, I ordered a cocktail and the baked potato soup to start - both of which were ok, maybe 3/5. We then ordered our entrees and that is where the disappointment really hit full stride. My dad ordered the prime rib medium rare and I opted to try the cajun ribeye. The prime rib was very meh and the au jus was a bit too salty. My medium rare "cajun ribeye" was, I suspect, neither cajun nor a ribeye nor medium rare. It was more like a medium well, sweet and salty, no spice, no talent, 0.25" thin slab of cardboard. I ate about 1/3 of it because I was hungry, but there was no way I could force myself to finish it. Silver lining: ...At least I had no appetite left for dessert and saved myself $10 and 1,000 calories.

I get the feeling that the employees at Austin's think it's a better, hipper, more "upscale" restaurant than it actually is. The decor is that exposed wood and trendy Colorado kind of thing with lots of specialized spot lighting that leaves most of the place pretty dim. All the servers are dressed in black and have pony tails. The menu is pretty standard American with a focus on steak and a little seafood. We shared the crab dip appetizer and it was excellent. My boyfriend had a disappointing crab cake sandwich. It wasn't disappointing in terms of taste-- it was actually excellent and mostly lump crab meat with very little filler-- the disappointment came from the 3 inch crab cake served on a 6 inch roll. It looked rather sad and he ended up eating half of a naked bun. I had the Prime Rib sandwich with au jus-- which anywhere else would be called a french dip. It was pretty darn tasty and the shoestring fries were a nice little change of pace. For dessert we shared a concoction of warned bananas, ice cream and cinnamon graham crumbles topped with a gigantic mound of Cool Whip. It tasted good but the bananas weren't candied or hot enough to really melt the ice cream and the presence of synthetic non-dairy topping at all was kind of a let down. My favorite part of my meal was actually a drink called Strawberry Pineapple Express- made with their house-made pineapple infused vodka which presumably came out of a large beverage jar that sits on the corner of the bar. I enjoyed my meal so I can't really explain why I came away with this feeling that the place is overly snooty. The food is on par with any chain type restaurant. It's not creative of funky at all. It's something about the atmosphere and the staff that didn't sit right with me. For a little less money I think I'd rather go down the street to Toscani.

I've eaten here numerous times, both dinner for two and in a large party. At no point was I ever disapointed with the food or service. On the other hand I was never blown away either. It is standard restaurant fare. Prices are reasonable. I tried different items at different times and never had a bad meal. I was always pleased with the complimentary bread (but I'm a sucker for bread as well). I will eat here again without reservations or fear of a bad meal.

All though myself and my boyfriend had to wait about 40 minutes to be seated (it was peak time-Friday night), once we were seated we had great service, food came quickly to our table after we ordered, and the food was delicious. My boyfriend ordered the chicken and ribs with the mashed potatoes, and I ordered the prime rib with broccoli and a side Cesar salad. All of the meat was cooked perfectly, tender, and melted in your mouth. The mashed potatoes were ok in my view but my boyfriend seemed to enjoy them. We both cleaned our plates, and that's unusual! The only issue I had was how high priced the food was, at least for the 60 dollars we paid I would have liked at least two sides and not just one... Other than that... We loved our dinner :)

Wednesday night was very crowded. Receptionist was very rude (even though she was busy, there is no excuse for rudeness). We were told it would be a 35 min wait, went to the bar, too crowded to get a drink! Decided to leave and turned in our beeper.

Austin's new Brunch menu is spectacular and the perfect escape from the winter blues! The Southwest Stromboli and the Chicken and biscuits are highlights! Also loved the Specialty Bloody Mary has a great kick! Loved the experience!

It's a tad on the pricier side of life, but it's still a very solid place to eat in Berks County. Always say yes to the pumpernickel bread they offer to bring out, along with their honey butter. The burgers my fiance and I tried were absolutely fantastic (she still raves about them). Their newer menu has some great American options that are worth a try.

Love Austin's! I'm in love with the crab cake and rib combo! The peppercorn ranch dressing is fabulous as well! My other half is in love with the baked potato soup! I could eat here every day!!! Just wish they offered regular non-wheat and honey bread!

Very good food - pleasant service and friendly atmosphere. The ribs are awesome, the specials are usually very good too. They are kid friendly and I find the overall quality is always above average. We live in the area and are always happy when we done here

I can't believe I stayed away for over 2 years but I want to share an update. I finally gave Austin's another chance and I am so glad I did. I missed the great food and atmosphere. I have been slow on second chances so have been seated at the bar to ensure my server is nearby. The good news is that I have been back several times in the past 2 months and have added Austin's back to the must visit list. Props to the management for working on improvements.

Stop by Austin's every now and then. Can't say I've ever had a bad experience. The food is always delicious and the service is always excellent. My husband swears the ribs are the best ever. The wait for a table usually isn't too long and food always comes out in reasonable time. I really like Austin's and highly recommend it!

Excellent Americain cuisine. Large portions, fair prices, and an emphasis on meaty dishes: steak, chicken, fish, ribs, burgers, etc. The salads are fantastic and huge. Highly recommended.

I really enjoy this place. Any time I have friends over from out of town this is the place I bring them. The food is always consistent and fresh. I am a vegetarian and although they don't have an overwhelming number of options for me on their menu, it doesn't bother me much since I continually order the same thing (veggie burger - the soy glaze is to die for especially if you put some on the side of garlic whipped potatoes). The one issue I have with Austin's is the fact that things which COULD BE made vegetarian (such as their potato soup and spinach and artichoke dip) are spoiled with the use of chicken broth!!!!!! Not only that but it doesn't say it on the menu so VEGETARIANS BEWARE! This is why it is important to always ask about ingredients even in seemly innocent menu items. For this I am giving what could have been a 5 star only 3. I mean seriously though Austin's, let's get it together - use vegetable stock instead since you can't tell the difference and then you will have some happy vegetarians out there - oh and more people ordering appetizers, Duh.

This used to be our favorite neighborhood go to for dining and take out but our last 3 or 4 experiences here have been less than satisfactory! The service is lacking continuity and little to no attention is paid to detail. In Austin's effort to have all of the servers working together much of the dining experience is ignored and we are often left waiting for someone or anyone to return to our table. Our last 2 take out experiences were poor. When we got our food home signature items were forgotten in our order. Tonight we dined in and had more than 5 servers...all of them were poor. The manager finally came and took our dirty dishes off of the table after 3 other servers brought food or drink but each ignored the dirty plates. My husband received his soup. When he finished I received my salad and then after a very long wait we received our meals about 5-10 min apart. We basically took turns eating our meals. Poor coordinating of service! My plate was hot but my meal was room temperature at best which makes me believe they are using heat lamps or hot trays. My husband was served the wrong beer and the manager quickly made the switch with no explanation. There were 4 hostesses standing around at waiting area drinking sodas but overall service was poor! I really hope they can pull it together as we live very close by and like the food choices. It is however frustrating to go out and spend $50+ on a dinner for 2 people and leave disappointed. Looking for new place.

Love the baked potato soup, bruschetta app, chicken bruschetta, chicken florentine, pasta, artichoke crab dip, and the Caesar salad. Great atmosphere, great drinks, good service. Could do without the complimentary semi-stale brown bread...this has been offered for years and well, it's just not that special...it's a little boring and not that appetizing.

Always great - always dependable - not a disappointing item on the menu We have gone there since it's opening, and it is always crowded and very predictable -Just a very good place for lunch or dinner - must have their mushroom artichoke soup! I wish they had it every day!

For me, Austin's is about as good as it gets in Wyomissing/Reading area. The food is great, there's plenty of it and the prices won't break the bank. I've never had anything I didn't like. In fact, everything I've had I've loved. Their soups are soli, and their pasta dishes are fantastic. The Shrimp Alfredo is absolutely amazing, and the chicken Florentine is well worth the asking price. Their bar offerings are solid, and they don't skimp on the good stuff. Austin's provides complimentary bread with a homemade honey butter. Admittedly, I'm not a fan of the butter, but love their bread. We've been to Austin's several dozen times over the years, and only one time have we ever had bad service. In that one instance, Austin's was quick to fix the issue, and the manager even came out to make sure we were satisfied it was resolved.

It was our anniversary, reservations were made a week in advance and when it was time to be seated, we were seated in . . . the bar. We had to call one of the servers over to refill drinks (odd considering we were in the bar area), and our dessert contained bruised bananas. This was dismissed as being because of the microwave. However this was a cold dessert. Regardless, having cooked bananas before, we know they were bad bananas. Very disappointed because we had enjoyed Austin's in the past, which is why we wanted to go there for our special day. Not worth it for the money. Also the staff seemed miserable -- I was hurried off the phone when making the reservation, the hostess didn't smile when we were greeted and everyone else seemed rushed and unhappy. Why would someone want to return somewhere where they don't feel welcomed?

  • Kay P.

If you want a delicious and relaxing meal without worrying about quality or service, you will also enjoy Austin's. The menu can be read quickly, but all of the choices are fantastic. The flat iron steak is the best, and the field green salad with hard boiled egg, bacon, and cheese is super. The service is beyond compare. A team approach means your are greeted by a server and your order is placed in the kitchen within 5 minutes of sitting down. Your food is served as soon as it is prepared --no sitting under those hot lights until your server is available.

Very pricey for the area, but the food and service are both great. We come during lunch and it's very crowded during the week. Burgers are very very good, as are the desserts.

I was informed of this establishment by word of mouth, in glowing terms. And as I pulled up to the restaurant, and entered inside, so far so good. The place had a nice classy look and feel. Almost looked like a four star restaurant because of its cleanliness and aesthetics. The menu had a lot of diverse dishes and a separate wine and drink menu were included on the table of a nice large booth we sat at. Waiters work on the 'shared system' which worked out well as we were attended to often w/o having to flag anyone down. Now about the food, if you are a cornbread eater, or not, you MUST TRY THE CORNBREAD as starter, trust me you'll thank me for this, its the best appetizer I've had in awhile. its four large cornbread, that taste like a sweet fried cake. Its a MUST to try. As for my mail meal, I had the Grilled Salmon, and broccoli as my side. Lets say the Salmon was overcooked, with a chewy outside and dry inside, and the broccoli was bigger than my salmon, no joke (I should've taken a picture as proof) so I didn't eat that. My Caesar salad, was alright, with 'runny, wet' salad dressing. Bottom Line, I'd prolly go here again, if I wanted to impress someone for the looks, and not the food.

Great place to have a nice dinner. A little pricier than a Ruby Tuesdays but its worth the price. For 2 people you're looking at about 50-60, drinks and an app. Staff is super friendly and quick. Food is done well, seasoned and hot to the table. A nice place to bring your significant other.

Having traveled in every state on the east coast and 2 eastern provinces of Canada I have never found a restaurant that can compare to Austin's! For starters the salad dressings are fresh made on a daily basis and not from a bottle. My family and I have had many of the entrees on the menu and have never been disappointed. The service is second to none with their "shared service" system. And the best thing is the ribs! Monday night all you can eat ribs, salads and sides for about $25. (not including drinks). They are Danished raised pork ribs, slow roasted for 8 hours and then dry rubbed and lightly grilled. (I asked). You will not find better ribs on the east coast at any "chain" restaurant! The are fall off the bone with the touch of the fork good! Most of the reviews on yelp about this restaurant are probably from people who are hard to please to begin with, I have been to this restaurant at least 5 times a year since it opened and have never had a complaint, even from those I was with. Like it is with most places you want to try, you'll never really know about a place until you have tried it for yourself!!

It's a nice American restaurant, but nothing really stands out. We got the cornbread and bruschetta appetizers. For entrees, we got the prime rib sandwich and the crabcake and rib combo entree. The food and service was good. The prime rib sandwich was too big to the point it was difficult to eat, but that's pretty common. All in all, it was a good meal, but nothing too exciting. I didn't get to try any of their desserts because I had already eaten too much. One reason why we decided to come here is that it was a Friday night, and Austin's take reservations so we knew we wouldn't have to wait. The restaurant is quite dim, and I prefer brighter restaurants, but it didn't really bother me. If you're looking for a nice local restaurant in Reading, this is definitely a good choice.

My wife and I went to Austin's for dinner Thursday, September 6, 2012. While the prices are higher than what we remember years ago, the service was extremely good with everyone being friendly and attentive (without being over attentive). Both our meals were extremely tasty; they were perfect in taste. If I had anything bad to say, it would be that the bread they bring out before you eat was very squishy, wasn't that good. Yet, given the well done salad you get as one of the sides, the other sides made to perfection; and the main meal being perfect... it was a wonderful little get away for my wife and I. We would go back as well as recommend Austin's to others.

Austin's is a nice restaurant that I would describe as "what a TGI Fridays should be like." Seriously. If you like that type of restaurant, give Austin's a try. They take it to the next level. The full bar is a nice place to start while waiting for a table. Entrees are fairly standard but always well prepared. I'm a fan of their baby back ribs.

Never had a bad experience here. Always professional and the food is always excellent. Atmosphere is great and the prices aren't overly bad for what you get. It's no Morton's Steakhouse, but it is one the best places to dine in this area.

Went for lunch with some friends on a Saturday. I went for a burger that hit the spot but the stringy limp fries left me wanting. For apps we had the Spinach dip which came with nachos? and a good mozz/tomato tower. The pulled pork and cajun chicken sandwiches were ok. Kaitlin pinched the complimentary loaf and I forgot what Drew got. Good place to dine with good service in a dimly lit, woodsy setting but you can leave your "that just happened" face at home.

We wanted a table for 9 on a Sunday, so I called Saturday to make reservations. I was told they didn't take reservations on Sundays! But we could have call-ahead seating. They would need to push 2 tables together. We took our chances and I called Sunday at 4 for a table at 5. No luck! Now they say they won't take a call for seating. But, if I WAS THERE IN THE RESTAURANT, I COULD REQUEST CALL-AHEAD SEATING, BUT NOT BEFORE ANYONE GOT THERE. Go figure. Everyone in our party was in route to the restaurant, so we decided to see what they could come up with. They were able to seat us after a 20 minute wait, the service was stellar and everyone seemed pleased with their food. But the NOISE! We couldn't hear the waitress. We couldn't even hold a conversation at the table. If you want a vegetable with your dinner, it's a $4 upcharge. Drinks are on the high side, also. $17 for pasta and food-service shrimp seemed a bit steep, also. Will I recommend Austin's? Not to anyone who wants to talk during dinner.

I was in town for a difficult meeting; not in the best mood. I stumbled upon this restaurant, dining alone, and was very pleasantly surprised. It's upscale bistro fare that is very nicely done. They mix an excellent drink. My steak was perfectly cooked; the portion was generous. Service was top notch--they even brought me a magazine to read while I was waiting for my entree. In short, I went in feeling blue and left feeling better. Overall, it was an excellent dining experience. I'd definitely go back.

This restaurant is pretty solid. 3 stars to me, is pretty good, as my scale for grading restaurants is more critical than some (as I've been harangued about by some other overly-sensitive Berks County yelp users) I'm never disappointed when I go. There is nothing earth-shattering here, but it is predictable and satisfying. Their baked potato soup is excellent and salads are very substantial and tasty. Lunch is a better option to avoid the wait. If you go at night, call ahead seating is a must or you will be waiting for a LONG time.

One of my favorite restaurants. Service is always good and the portions are large. I'm vegetarian and still enjoy eating there. Their red beans and rice are very good, as is the vegetarian pasta. They are very accommodating and will make pretty much anything you request.

The food here is very traditional, but the portions are large, and the service is good. I like the good lighting, dark overall with a nice light at the table. Spacious with tons of nice booths. We are vegan, so there is not much for us, but we did have a gift certificate. The bruschetta was a massive portion and delicious. They were very accommodating to our requests to have the eggs and such taken off the $7 HUGE field greens salad and gave us mushrooms and onions instead, and I love the strawberry vinaigrette dressing. The chipotle rice and beans is a good side dish too, and my bf liked his veggie burger and shoestring fries. The wine and beer lists are very dull. There is no reason to have white zinfandel and Yellowtail Shiraz on a wine menu, with plenty of cheap and flavorful interesting wines available out there, even if people want sweet and fruity choices. I tried the French Pinot Noir, not good. Beers are fairly boring too, which doesn't have to be with good local beers right in Berks County. This place is always busy though, so someone is happy drinking this stuff. Good friendly team service all around. We were very appreciative of the servers being kind about our special requests.

I grew up going to Reading as a kid with my parents, and haven't been here in years. So my wife and I decided to get away from the kids for a weekend of shopping and some much needed r&r. So we really wanted something different for Dinner. So we checked the other reviews, and figured we would give Austin's shot. Let me tell you, please go. Everything about this place was on for us. The ambiance, wait staff, and especially the food were outta sight. We are seafood lovers, so my wife had salmon & crab w/ asparagus in a wine type sauce, and I had crab alfredo with linguine. The portions were huge. I mean I wanted to eat it all because it was just that good, but I couldn't be cause of the huge Caesar salad w/ anchovies that I had befor my meal. Hey, I know that I'm laying it one thick, but I also want the owners of this joint to read this and never change a thing about Austin's. Oh, forgot to mention, we're thinking about going back tomorrow.

Probably one of the best restaurants in the area. Food is fresh and well prepared (unlike all the lousy chain restaurants around here). Nice atmosphere and great service. I never had a bad meal at Austin's. My favorite dish is the roasted vegetable pasta.

We love to go to Austin's. It is my favorite place for lunch or dinner. The food is always very good and it is always hot when it is served. The garlic mashed potatos are awesome. I also have tried the tilpaia, steak, roasted chicken, chicken oscar, crab alfredo. Everything I have ever had there is excellent.

We hadn't eaten here for about a year or so and went for a late dinner last week. We were seated immediately. The waitstaff was very efficient and friendly. But something changed - the food was just different somehow than what we remembered. We did notice the menu was considerably smaller. Our food was was just ok - nothing to either recommend or condemn. Its a fine place to go - nice atmosphere. But we probably will not be back for another year!

One of our favorite restaurants in the area. When I worked at the Sheraton, we sent hotel guests here all of the time and they always came back happy. Their prime rib is excellent, as is the baked potato soup. Kids eat free on sunday which helps with the prices.

Standby American: burgers, ribs, fried-tasty appetizers (get the chicken), tall glasses of coke with black straws -- all that fun stuff. Salads are great; pasta is tasty; skip the steak. If they still have all you can eat ribs on Mondays, stop eating all meals immediately in preparation. People looking for "original" cuisine and a gourmet wine list here...are missing the point. This is a take mom out to dinner place, or a reward for a good report card place, with a wide enough menu that everyone can pick something that they want - and have enough food for lunch the next day. Embrace it. 4 stars.

Basic amercan fare. Pastas, meats, seafood, etc... I had Salmon and it was OK. It would be good for a large group with varied tastes because it's a very comprehensive menu. But if you're looking for something original look elsewhere.

Don't make reservations. We made one for 8:00. It is now 8:20 and we still are not seated. I guess customer service and reservations mean nothing.

Basic amercan fare. Pastas, meats, seafood, etc... I had Salmon and it was OK. It would be good for a large group with varied tastes because it's a very comprehensive menu. But if you're looking for something original look elsewhere.

I have NEVER had a bad meal or bad service and we have been going since they opened. The ribs and chicken fingers are my old favorite. I also love the shrimp pasta sauté and my new fav is the ahi tuna. I miss the bananas foster tho.

One of my favorite restaurants. Service is always good and the portions are large. I'm vegetarian and still enjoy eating there. Their red beans and rice are very good, as is the vegetarian pasta. They are very accommodating and will make pretty much anything you request.

Excellent Americain cuisine. Large portions, fair prices, and an emphasis on meaty dishes: steak, chicken, fish, ribs, burgers, etc. The salads are fantastic and huge. Highly recommended.

Food and service is great and reasonable priced! Love the cajun salmon and tomato/mozzellla tower. Usually to full for desert ;-(

Probably one of the best restaurants in the area. Food is fresh and well prepared (unlike all the lousy chain restaurants around here). Nice atmosphere and great service. I never had a bad meal at Austin's. My favorite dish is the roasted vegetable pasta.

Embrace it. 4 stars.

Love Austin's! I'm in love with the crab cake and rib combo! The peppercorn ranch dressing is fabulous as well! My other half is in love with the baked potato soup! I could eat here every day!!! Just wish they offered regular non-wheat and honey bread!

Wednesday night was very crowded. Receptionist was very rude (even though she was busy, there is no excuse for rudeness). We were told it would be a 35 min wait, went to the bar, too crowded to get a drink! Decided to leave and turned in our beeper.
